Save Me follows the life of Nelly Rowe (played by Lennie), a down and out man who is brutally taken down by police who accuse him of kidnapping 13-year-old Jody McGory (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness). The teenager turns out to be his long-lost daughter who he shares with high-flying Claire McGory (Suranne Jones). However, the real story is not that of a kidnapping plot, but that of Nelly desperately trying to clear his name and find Jody before it’s too late. Sky viewers have been enjoying Save Me and now The Walking Dead’s Lennie, who wrote the show, has some good news for fans. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the 52-year-old revealed he had always intended for the story to continue. When asked if people would be happy with the ending to the series, Lennie explained: “People will have to watch and tell me. “But when Ann Mensa [Sky controller] asked if I had an idea for a television series, was really if I had an idea for a returning television series and this is my idea. “Whatever happens at the end of the series, it was always my intention for it to be a returning series.” When asked what was next for the Morgan Jones star, Lennie said: “I will hopefully get to do some more of this story with these characters.” It seems that fans can expect more Save Me in the future, especially given the positive reviews the show has received. Lennie also explained that now is the perfect time for him to branch out into more writing projects. When asked why he chose now to get involved with the production side of television considering how busy he must be with the Fear The Walking Dead crossover he is now part of, his answer was resolute. “Why now? Because my kids went to university on one level,” he laughed. Lennie added: “And on another, because I act, because I’ve been relatively successful, the things I write end up being the things I can’t not write. “If I’m going to commit myself to the solitary pursuit of writing, I have to be able to commit and I have to just write it.” Save Me continues next Wednesday on Sky Atlantic. The full box set is also available on SkyGo and Now TV.
Donald Trump has informed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of his intention to move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a spokesperson for Abbas said. The Palestinian president told Trump the move would have “dangerous consequences.”
“President Mahmoud Abbas received a telephone call from U.S. President Donald Trump in which he notified the President (Abbas) of his intention to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said in a statement, which did not specify when the move could happen.
“President Abbas warned of the dangerous consequences such a decision would have to the peace process and to the peace, security and stability of the region and of the world,” Abu Rdainah said.
The White House confirmed that Trump spoke to a number of Middle East leaders on Tuesday, ahead of his expected announcement about the US embassy. Spokesperson Sarah Sanders said the US president had spoken to or planned to speak to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordan’s King Abdullah.
It comes after reports emerged on Friday that Trump would be recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel this week, with AP and Reuters citing unnamed sources within the US administration. That report sparked a wave of reactions across the Muslim world.
One of those reactions was from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who warned earlier on Tuesday that US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would be a “red line” for Muslims. He also said the step would prompt Ankara to cut diplomatic ties with Israel.
On Monday, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said during a televised conference that US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would be a “major catastrophe.”
“If the [current] status of Jerusalem is changed and another step is taken… that would be a major catastrophe,” Bozdag said. “It would completely destroy the fragile peace process in the region, and lead to new conflicts, new disputes and new unrest.”
Following the initial report that Trump might acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish State, the Palestinian Authority and Arab League warned against the move, saying it would increase instability and put an end to the peace process. Hamas has also threatened more violence in Jerusalem if Washington recognized the city as the capital of Israel.
Jordan also began moving to convene an emergency meeting of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) if Washington went ahead with the move. The Palestinian Authority’s foreign minister, Riyad al-Maliki also asked the heads of the Arab League and the OIC to host emergency meetings.
Despite the reports that Trump was planning on formally recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, it was believed that he would once again delay his campaign promise to move the US embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. Israel has been actively urging the US to relocate its diplomatic mission, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying in May that such a move would contribute to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process by “shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel.” The Palestinians have been adamantly opposed to that notion from the beginning, with Palestine’s UN envoy stating in November 2016 that Palestinians would make life “miserable” for the US if it transferred its embassy to Jerusalem.

Iraqi Kurdish President Masoud Barzani has confirmed his intention to step down on November 1 in a letter to the parliament, Kurdish Rudaw TV reports. “I refuse to continue in the position of president of the region after November 1,” Barzani said in the letter, asking the MPs to fill the presidential power vacuum. The 71-year-old has been the Iraqi Kurdistan president since 2005, with calls for him to step down sounding after Iraqi government forces seized oilfields near the Kurdish city of Kirkuk earlier this month. Baghdad launched a military operation against the Kurds after the region voted for independence from Iraq in a referendum in September.
The former world no. 1 has been nursing the injury since the week before Wimbledon having previously this year suffered from illness and an elbow injury.
Andy Murray tried to play down the problem at the time, saying, “I’ve been dealing with it for a very long time during my career.”
But he was clearly in distress when he limped out of a five-set defeat against American Sam Querrey.
After consulting with experts in Switzerland, he considered undergoing surgery immediately after the grass court season but instead opted to try to manage the injury in the hope of making it to the US Open.
Despite having to withdraw from all competitive tennis in the build-up to the event at Flushing Meadows, he remained confident that he could play. But 24 hours before the tournament started, he decided that with no chance of emulating his 2012 success, there was little point even entering.
Since then, he has been mulling over his options – to continue battling on, take a rest or undergo surgery.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in the upcoming events in Beijing and Shanghai, and most likely, the final two events to finish the season in Vienna and Paris due to my hip injury which has been bothering me the last few months,” he said.
“Having consulted with a number of leading hip specialists over the last week, along with my own team, we have decided that this is the best decision for my long-term future.
“Although this has been a frustrating year on court for many reasons, I’m confident after this extended period of rest and rehabilitation that I will be able to reach my best level again and be competing for Grand Slam titles next season.
“I will be beginning my ATP World Tour 2018 season in Brisbane in preparation for the Australian Open and I’m look forward playing in Glasgow later this year against Roger for UNICEF and Sunny-sid3up.
“I have a fantastic team working alongside me to help me through this process and appreciate the support from them and all of my fans over this difficult period.”
Murray was determined to fulfil his charity commitment against Federer, having persuaded the Swiss to visit Scotland for the very first time, but competitively it means writing off the rest of the season.
Having won five straight tournaments at the end of last year in his charge to the world’s top spot, Murray is set to start 2018 much lower down the rankings – although the fact that Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka have also missed the latter half of the year will limit the damage.
However, Murray’s reluctance to go under the knife is partly because he was scarred mentally by the effects of a back surgery in 2013 which pre-empted a disappointing return to the court in 2014. With Murray now in his thirties, he will now be motivated by the need to get back to his very best tennis as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone…
Just wanted to update you all on my injury and the rest of my season.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in the upcoming events in Beijing and Shanghai, and most likely, the final two events to finish the season in Vienna and Paris due to my hip injury which has been bothering me the last few months.
Having consulted with a number of leading hip specialists over the last week, along with my own team, we have decided that this is the best decision for my long-term future.

I will be beginning my 2018 season in Brisbane in preparation for the Australian Open and I’m look forward playing in Glasgow later this year against Roger for UNICEF UK and Sunny-sid3up.
I have a fantastic team working alongside me to help me through this process and appreciate the support from them and all of my fans over this difficult period.
Turkey has no intention of shutting down its brand new military base in Qatar, it said in a rejection of a demand about the small Gulf kingdom voiced by other Arab nations. Ankara says the base benefits the entire Gulf region.
Closing the Turkish base is reportedly one of 13 moves expected from Doha by a group of countries led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, which last month declared a transport blockade of Qatar and downgraded diplomatic relations with it.
“If there is such a demand, it will mean interference in bilateral ties,” Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik told the local broadcaster NTV.
On Thursday, five armored vehicles and 23 troops arrived in Qatar from Turkey as part of the military cooperation between the two countries. There are already 88 Turkish soldiers stationed in Qatar, and that number is expected to eventually reach 1,000, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. The agreement to host a Turkish base in Qatar was signed in 2014.
“The strengthening of the Turkish base would be a positive step in terms of the Gulf’s security,” Isik said. “Re-evaluating the base agreement with Qatar is not on our agenda.”
The minister added that the base in Qatar benefits the security of the entire region. He added the Arab nations opposing Qatar didn’t send a demand to shut down the base to Turkey directly.
The rift among the Gulf nations is the latest iteration in a long-standing conflict over a number of issues, including Qatar’s support of the pan-Arab network Muslim Brotherhood, its economic ties with Iran and the influence it has in the Arab world thanks to its state-sponsored news channel Al Jazeera.
Saudi Arabia and its allies perceive the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, Iran as an enemy and Al Jazeera as an instrument of Qatari interference with their domestic affairs.

Turkey, which voiced support of Doha amid the antagonism, has tripled its exports to Qatar since the transport blockade was announced, Turkey’s Customs and Trade Minister Bulent Tufenkci said Thursday. Qatar’s only land routes go through Saudi Arabia, so it now relies solely on sea and air supplies.

Moderator (and Glamour editor-in-chief) Cindi Leive accurately described her guests as “four creative powerhouses who are making real change in how people look at race, gender, and body image onscreen and off”: Obvious Child star Jenny Slate, Precious star Gabourey Sibide, fellow actor Danielle Macdonald (whose tiny breakthrough film Patti Cake$ is playing SXSW after a big success at Sundance), and director Janicza Bravo (whose oddball comedy of manners Lemon is also running the Sundance/SXSW circuit).
Leive began the discussion with a fairly simple question – the earliest work of television or film to inspire each of them – that opened up the gates to the day’s most recurrent topic: representation. As Macdonald put it, “I never thought about who I was seeing on TV, or why. And I think that it affected me without me realizing it; I look back on the shows that I really related to, and that I loved, and I realize they were all people I could see a little bit of myself in. And we need to see more of that – when we’re growing up, we’re not thinking about it, because we’re kids. But what we see really does affect us, and our thoughts, and our views on the world.”

Most of the panel talked about works they saw when they were young and impressionable, but Sibide pinpointed a more recent phenomenon: Girls. “It made me feel like I wasn’t some alien,” she said, explaining the ongoing pressure she feels as a young woman to “be nice,” a responsibility pointedly eschewed by the characters on Lena Dunham’s show. “It made me feel like I wasn’t weird for not thinking I was nice enough. I could see myself in that way, and I kind of wanted to be more like them, and be less concerned about it.”
Slate mentioned a more obscure title: the 1988 film Crossing Delancey, a small-ish New York-based comedy/drama, but one concerning Jewish women who looked, in a way unfamiliar to her mass media intake, like her mother, her aunts, and other women in her life. “I felt a feeling of wholeness, that once I got it, I started to look for it again,” she explained, remarking that seeing those images reflected back at you is “like seeing an open door in outer space. It feels really good. You’re like woah, okay, so it is infinite, there are many options, but something is telling me that there’s something very specific that I can do. And I want the power to do that.”
“You see a lot of work that you’re not represented in,” Bravo noted. “And there’s plenty of that work that I love, and that I gravitate towards, that I’m completely absent from… I think that right now, today, I don’t get to exist in the world without considering white people, ’cause when I walk outside, they’re there. So it is unsettling or upsetting to me or hurtful when I see work that doesn’t consider me, and when I say me I mean people that are non-white, to have the luxury of existing without that kind of consideration must be really nice. But I think that’s over.”

So what does she want to see instead – or at least in addition to – that monochromatic picture? “I want to see work that is inclusive – and I don’t mean just in front of the camera, I also think behind the camera,” Bravo said. “That feels really necessary now; right now when we’re in the world that we are in, and in the direction we are headed in, it is really important to be creating stories that are inclusive of races and sexes. Because that’s the world that I want to see for myself, and I think for most of us; we talk about seeing this kind of world, but then we’re not actually including people. We’re not writing those stories.”
As Sibide notes, that sort of exclusion is common not just to women of color, but women in general. Pay close enough to attention to the way women are situated in mainstream entertainment, and it’s most often in relation to the male characters the work is most obviously about: “We’re born into this world, but we are zero, we are nothing until some man comes along and verifies us.”
And that verification can come in disturbingly personal forms. “As a woman in a different body,” Sibide said, “I get a lot of scripts and I get a lot of offers where, like, somebody has to make mention of my body immediately. Someone wrote a script with me in mind, and the first time someone was talking about my character, it was like, This hippo, this elephant. And I was like, are you serious? You wrote a thing for me, and you’re calling me a hippo and all of the animals? This is my body, this has been my body my entire life, and in real life, my friends and my colleagues and anyone I know is not constantly talking about my body. But most of the roles I’ve ever had, somebody has to make mention of it.”

Those aren’t the only troubling recurrent tropes. Slate has a particular pet peeve: “There are a rash of comedies where the way that they show that women are free is that you read the script, and it’s like, She wakes up, who’s that next to her, she doesn’t care, rolls out of bed, takes a hit from the bong, see you later, calls her friend, like hey dude, and it’s a woman that she’s calling… It’s like, why do you have to show that this woman is unreal, reckless, and really really overcompensating, to show that she’s free?” The specific titles she might be referring to aren’t hard to guess, but they speak to a more general problem: “There’s a weird thing, I think, when men write women, they make them be cruel to show that they’re tough. That is just a real misunderstanding. And I think if you can’t write a woman correctly, then you should, um, not.”
But that asks a larger question: until there are more women making films about women (or, and this is the harder part, more women in positions to get those films made), are the white men who write most of the scripts and direct most of the movies responsible to present more women and people of color? Or is that equation fraught with the problems of appropriation and misrepresentation? Bravo has heard their objections before: “I don’t know if I can write in these kind of voices. I call bullshit on that. Because if you as a writer can write an 80-year-old man or a nine-year-old girl, then why can’t you write a black woman of your age? That doesn’t make sense.”
Slate sees the risks, but also sees the solution. “When you are writing about someone who isn’t you, you certainly run the risk of doing something to them: objectifying them, infantilizing them, exoticizing them, whatever. But sometimes that’s part of the art, and that’s okay. What I feel is, have a clear intention and do your fucking work. Just do your work. If you’re gonna do it, just do your work. I don’t care who you are – just get specific and do your work.”

Ultimately, it comes down to the question of who you’re making the work for, and sometimes, you have to take a flyer on that one. “I’m only making the work for myself,” Bravo shrugged. “It’s my own exorcism. It’s the thing I have to expel from my body that is like rotting inside of me, that is the work. And I think that even me in my body, and the stories I am telling, I do feel are universal, because they’re about broken people who feel misplaced or feel like victims. And I think a lot people feel like victims right now.”
Of course, it can feel like filmmakers who want to make a difference are fighting a losing battle in the marketplace. Slate pointedly encouraged considering that product for what it is. “Some movies are made to be consumed,” she shrugged. “McDonald’s is the most popular restaurant in the United States. Like, some people just wanna eat garbage and take in garbage and some movies are made to make the very most money, so they take the least risks, and they have the most beautiful people, and the least offensive imagery, and the stuff that you just don’t have to think about. And that’s okay too – sometimes you just wanna zone out and that’s fine. And when you’re writing stuff like that, you remind people of what they have already consumed or enjoyed, so that they’ll give you money. But that’s not really the way I want to make art or be a human.”
So what does an artist do when they feel the same way, and want to act accordingly? Sibide – who, incidentally, just published her own book and directed her own short film – puts it simply: “It’s 2017. We all either have a Samsung or an iPhone. If you have a piece of art that you need to get out, if you have something to say, you don’t need somebody to give you a ton of money to do it. You don’t need Universal to sit on your lap and tell you you’re pretty so you can make your art. You can do it by yourself, with yourself, and put it out. Just do it.”
