“Big bang” takes on a whole new meaning for Kaley Cuoco in her upcoming animated series Harley Quinn, a new trailer for which was released Saturday night in conjunction with the DC Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Mouthing off as Gotham’s saucy queenpin, infamously played by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad, Cuoco, who is also an executive producer on the show, kicks series butt — and to the tune of “Love Is All Around,” the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme, no less.

Spotted trading blows and/or glances with the anti-heroine in the action-packed clip are the familiar faces of, among others, Batman, serious as ever, Poison Ivy and the Joker, who winds up on the receiving end of a punch as well as a punchline.

The irreverent (and that’s putting it mildly!) cartoon — whose pilot was screened during the panel as well — is set to make its debut on the digital subscription service this fall. Its leading lady, of course, just wrapped a wildly successful 12-season run as Penny on CBS’ already-missed Big Bang Theory.

To check out the trailer, press PLAY on the video above. Then riddle us this: Will you be going on Harley Quinn’s wild ride? Or will you hold out for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) to hit theaters?

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

Cancelled Quickly: Swamp Thing, Doubt and 24 Other Infamous TV Flame-Outs https://briefnews.eu/cancelled-quickly-swamp-thing-doubt-and-24-other-infamous-tv-flame-outs/ https://briefnews.eu/cancelled-quickly-swamp-thing-doubt-and-24-other-infamous-tv-flame-outs/#respond Sun, 09 Jun 2019 18:08:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cancelled-quickly-swamp-thing-doubt-and-24-other-infamous-tv-flame-outs/

TV has been home to an infinite number of one-season wonders — but what about the shows that were practically yanked before the first commercial break?

In the wake of Swamp Thing‘s swift cancellation, TVLine is taking a look back at 26 of TV’s most infamous flame-outs — some beloved, others not so much. Because for every Lone Star, there’s also a Viva Laughlin, or (ugh) Work It.

Some of these shows had the misfortune (and/or blessing, depending on how you look at it) of being pulled after just one episode. Take, for instance, when ABC apparently had an answer to Emily’s Reasons Why Not.

Others were picked up to series, only never to make it to air. That includes a 1990s sitcom revival, a Cruel Intentions spinoff starring Amy Adams, and a Gavin & Stacey remake starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel.

All of these ill-fated shows have one thing in common: None of them made it past five episodes.

Billy Bush Plots TV Comeback After Infamous Access Hollywood Tape https://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/ https://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/#respond Wed, 08 May 2019 14:05:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/billy-bush-plots-tv-comeback-after-infamous-access-hollywood-tape/

Two-and-a-half years since a leaked Access Hollywood tape upended his career, Billy Bush is making a return to television.

The TV personality is set to host Extra Extra, a new iteration of the syndicated newsmagazine Extra that will air on Fox this fall. Per People, which first reported the news of Bush’s hiring, the show will feature a modernized set and an in-depth look at topics including pop culture, sports and politics.

Bush’s Extra Extra gig marks his first TV job since getting fired from Today in 2016, following the leak of a now-infamous Access Hollywood tape. The unearthed recording from 2005 featured Donald Trump and Bush engaging in a lewd conversation about groping and kissing women without their consent. At the time of the tape’s release, Bush said he was “embarrassed and ashamed” that he had “acted foolishly in playing along” with Trump.

He later told Late Show host Stephen Colbert that he had attended a soul-searching retreat in the wake of getting fired, acknowledging the “unbelievable irony” of losing his job while Trump went on to be elected president.

As he prepares to return to TV this fall, Bush told People that he “had the opportunity to grow up a little bit” after spending more than two years without a steady job.

“I own the moment. It was a bad moment. And I was in it,” Bush said. “But one moment doesn’t define your life… A good wallop on the side of the head makes you, changes you, and I’m a better version of the man I was.”

Extra Extra premieres Monday, Sept. 9 on Fox.

  • Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury in the third quarter of the Redskins game against the Texans.
  • The injury immediately brought up memories of Joe Thiesman’s infamous career-ending leg injury.
  • Smith was carted off the field with backup quarterback Colt McCoy taking over in his absence.

Alex Smith went down in the third quarter of the Washington Redskins game against the Houston Texans on Sunday with a gruesome leg injury.

Trailing 17-7 but driving towards the red zone, Smith dropped back on third-and-9 and was immediately pursued by the Texans pass rush. Running backward, Smith went down in a heap when caught by J.J. Watt and Kareem Jackson.

R.I.P. Walter Mischel, father of the infamous Marshmallow Test https://briefnews.eu/r-i-p-walter-mischel-father-of-the-infamous-marshmallow-test/ https://briefnews.eu/r-i-p-walter-mischel-father-of-the-infamous-marshmallow-test/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 23:52:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/r-i-p-walter-mischel-father-of-the-infamous-marshmallow-test/

The psychologist who famously demonstrated the importance of being able to delay gratification to achieving later success in life died on September 12 in New York City. Walter Mischel, emeritus professor of psychology at Columbia University and self-proclaimed “Marshmallow Man,” was 88.

Per Columbia University’s announcement:

“Professor Mischel is revered for his work in self-regulation. He is the author of the popular book The Marshmallow Test: Mastering Self-Control. In it, he describes his groundbreaking studies of young children in the 1960s and 1970s, during which they were given the choice between receiving one immediate treat and receiving two treats 15 minutes later. The tactics used by the youngsters to distract themselves had implications for delayed gratification in adults. For example, when faced with the urge to smoke or a choice between arguing versus compromise, Mischel recommended keeping a goal in mind and focusing on the consequences of losing self-control.”

Mischel’s landmark behavioral study involved 600 kids between the ages of four and six, all culled from Stanford University’s Bing Nursery School. He would give each child a marshmallow and gave them the option of eating it immediately if they chose. But if they could wait 15 minutes, they would get a second marshmallow as a reward. Then Mischel would leave the room and a hidden video camera would tape what happened next.

500 migrants moved from French camp infamous for riots & clashes with police (PHOTOS, VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/500-migrants-moved-from-french-camp-infamous-for-riots-clashes-with-police-photos-video/ https://briefnews.eu/500-migrants-moved-from-french-camp-infamous-for-riots-clashes-with-police-photos-video/#respond Thu, 06 Sep 2018 16:28:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/500-migrants-moved-from-french-camp-infamous-for-riots-clashes-with-police-photos-video/ Up to 500 migrants have been cleared from a camp, near the port city of Dunkirk in France, notorious for internal gangs and clashes with police. Officials say it was part of efforts to prevent the spread of “shantytowns.”

As many as 200 officers oversaw the operation on Thursday, which took place at the camp in Grande-Synthe, located just outside the city, French media reports.

Opened on March 7, 2016, the French government expressed its desire to remove migrants from the camp in April of last year, after residents clashed with each other in a row over the allocation of bracelets that allowed access to the camp. Some migrants also demanded “ransoms” and “loans” for use of the camp’s facilities by other residents, and “restricted access” to showers.

Built by the charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF), it was the first French camp to meet the standards of the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees. At its height, it housed almost 1,500 people.

At the time of last year’s violence, the mayor of Grande-Synthe, Damien Careme, disagreed with plans to close the camp, instead advocating its size be downsized to 700 residents.

Prior to this week’s move, 800 remained living at the site, with 95 percent comprised of Iraqi Kurds, according to municipal estimates.

The early morning operation went smoothly, regional government official Eric Etienne told AFP. Etienne added that the move reflected the government’s commitment not to allow new “shantytowns” develop along France’s northern coast.

The heavy police presence at the Grande-Synthe camp was part of efforts to deter the growth of the site as migrants congregated there before making attempts to stow themselves on trucks and ferries destined for the UK.

AFP footage of the clearance shows officers and immigration officials overseeing migrants putting belongings on buses before boarding. Those evacuated on Tuesday will be offered the chance to apply for asylum in France or be brought to police centres for ID checks.

Previous camps like the “Jungle” site located near the port of Calais hosted as many as 10,000 migrants before being cleared and razed in 2016. Last October, fierce clashes erupted between migrants and police, who came to demolish the camp.

Last month, French lawmakers passed new legislation to accelerate asylum procedures by cutting the maximum processing time, after arriving in France, from the current 120 days to 90.

Dr. Robert Sears, a pediatrician infamous for promoting alternative vaccine schedules that allow parents to delay or entirely avoid the life-saving jabs, has been placed on a 35-month probation by the Medical Board of California.

The punishment stems from an accusation filed by the board in 2016 claiming Sears demonstrated gross negligence in the case of a two-year-old. The board alleged that Sears gave the young patient an exemption from all future vaccinations without reviewing any of the child’s medical records, including those that indicate which vaccines the child had received and any subsequent reactions the child suffered. Sears instead relied on an account from the child’s mother, who said the child went limp and that the child’s kidneys and intestines “shut down” after vaccinations.

The board also cited Sears for later examining the child for a head injury after the child had reportedly been “‘hit on head with hammer’ by Dad.” Sears failed to follow up with standard neurological testing, the board wrote.

President Trump Claims Jimmy Fallon Bragged About 'Monster Ratings' After Infamous 2016 Hair Tussle https://briefnews.eu/president-trump-claims-jimmy-fallon-bragged-about-monster-ratings-after-infamous-2016-hair-tussle/ https://briefnews.eu/president-trump-claims-jimmy-fallon-bragged-about-monster-ratings-after-infamous-2016-hair-tussle/#respond Mon, 25 Jun 2018 12:02:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/president-trump-claims-jimmy-fallon-bragged-about-monster-ratings-after-infamous-2016-hair-tussle/

It was the hair tussle seen ’round the world — and now, nearly two years later, President Trump himself is weighing in. In the wake of a new interview in which Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon again expressed regret over his now-infamous softball sit-down with the then-candidate, POTUS is putting Fallon on blast.

In a tweet published Sunday evening, Trump mocked Fallon for “whimpering” about the September 2016 episode, before alleging that the comedian called him afterwards to boast about the episode’s “monster ratings.” The full tweet reads as follows:

UPDATE: Fallon has responded to Trump’s tweet, announcing that he will make a donation to RAICES — a Texas-based nonprofit that provides education and legal services to immigrant children, families and refugees — in the president’s name:

Trump’s decision to pick a fight with yet another late-night host (following Samantha Bee, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers) comes after Fallon once again apologized for the hair incident in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying he never meant to “normalize” the then-presidential candidate or insinuate that he shares 45’s political beliefs.

Fallon previously addressed the Trump backlash in a May 2017 interview with The New York Times, in which he suggested that the bit was actually meant to “minimize” the presidential candidate.

From Emperor Qin to Pieta: 5 infamous incidents of art vandalism https://briefnews.eu/from-emperor-qin-to-pieta-5-infamous-incidents-of-art-vandalism/ https://briefnews.eu/from-emperor-qin-to-pieta-5-infamous-incidents-of-art-vandalism/#respond Mon, 19 Feb 2018 21:50:27 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/from-emperor-qin-to-pieta-5-infamous-incidents-of-art-vandalism/ Chinese officials are calling for the “exemplary punishment” of an American student who damaged a priceless 2,200-year-old statue. One of the famous terracotta warriors lost a finger in the incident.

The statues date back to 200 BC, during the reign of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. Several of them were on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The sneaky vandal decided to capture a moment with one of the ancient statues by taking a selfie – along with one of its stone digits, as a keepsake.

Michael Rohana, 24, is accused of having violated the statue during a Christmas party at the venue. The crime was not discovered by museum staff until January 8. Officials with the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center said they were “shocked and enraged” that the Franklin Institute failed to report the incident earlier.

Rohana was eventually arrested by the FBI’s Art Crime team after they tracked him back to his home in Bear, Delaware. He was charged with “theft of a major artwork from a museum, concealment of major artwork stolen from a museum, and interstate transportation of stolen property,” the Global Times reported. He was released on $ 15,000 bail.

There have been several instances of high art vandalism in recent history, featuring even more unusual examples.

On July 26, 2013, green paint was splashed across the Lincoln Memorial at the National Mall in Washington, DC. Because the vandals struck in the middle of the night, no suspects were brought to justice and the felonious “green thumb” street artists were never found.

Piero Cannata, an unemployed 47-year-old with a history of mental illness, walked into the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence on September 14, 1991 to have a whack at Michelangelo’s masterpiece ‘David.’ The perpetrator began pummelling the statue with a mallet that he snuck in beneath his jacket, breaking off a piece of David’s toe. A local passersby managed to subdue Cannata before he could attack the statue’s “centerpiece.” When asked why he attacked the statue, Cannato explained that “Nani,” a 16th-century Venetian painter’s model, had instructed him to do so.

A similar incident involved another unemployed man with psychological issues, Laslo Toth, attacking another Michelangelo masterpiece. On May 21, 1972, Toth strolled into St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City to deliver 12 vicious blows to the ‘Pietà’ with a smuggled hammer. When police questioned him about the assault, he desperately tried to convince the authorities that he was both Michelangelo and Jesus Christ at the same time.

One of the most bizarre acts of vandalism occurred in January 2012, when Carmen Tisch from Denver, Colorado gave a touch-up to a $ 40 million expressionist painting by punching, scratching, and then wiping her bare behind on it. Afterwards, she collapsed in an emotional meltdown and urinated on herself in the gallery. She was later taken away by police.
