First day jitters at work? Nah, Transplant‘s Dr. Bashir Hamed (played by Jett‘s Hamza Haq) displays nothing of the sort on Tuesday’s episode (NBC, 10/9c) of the transplanted Canadian medical drama.

In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from the installment, titled “Tell Me Who You Are,” Bashir — who was a doctor in Syria before coming to Canada with his little sister to escape the civil war in his homeland — arrives at York Memorial hospital to begin his residency anew. Not knowing that Dr. Jed Bishop (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s John Hannah) hired Bashir as a doc, Dr. Magalie “Mags” LeBlanc (Being Erica‘s Laurence Leboeuf) is confused to see her former patient wandering the ER.

“You can’t just show up here and volunteer as a doctor,” Dr. LeBlanc says after Bashir quickly jumps in to help with a trauma. But then Dr. Bishop informs everyone that Bashir is just doing his job — and doing it better than the other docs, you could argue: He figures out the patient has a ruptured spleen without even needing a scan.

The star colt, who won the Golden Rose in devastating fashion last start, worked alongside stablemate D’Argento in a gallop down the Caulfield straight, and importantly had no issue with the track.

“(He was) perfect,” a delighted Chris Waller said of the $ 2 Caulfield Guineas favourite who will start from barrier five.

“James McDonald was on board and he said (he was) on the right legs at the right time and did everything right.”

“We are very aware that some Sydney horses struggle at Caulfield for the first time. We have thought about that probably six weeks ago, so he has done a lot of galloping left-handed. This morning was basically just to give him a look at the layout of the track and to get familiar with the place.”

“He was relaxed in the work and after the work. It looked pretty straight forward. He is a very professional horse, you will see that the more you watch him. (He) takes everything in his stride, he’s not a horse that worries about anything and that is a big attribute for him.”

When asked if the Redoute’s Choice colt – who can further enhance his already $ 20 million-plus stud value with victory on Saturday – was the most exciting horse in his stable apart from wonder mare Winx, Waller said he had a significant upside.

“It would be hard to be detrimental to other horses in the stable but he has the potential to be a very good horse,” Waller said.

“He has the potential to give us something beyond Winx, whenever that may be.”

He suggested it was more unlikely than likely that the colt would go to the $ 5 million Cox Plate at The Valley following Saturday’s race.

James McDonald was delighted with the work from The Autumn Sun, who will partner him on Saturday, and was eagerly looking forward to the Guineas.

“He was really well balanced around the bends which was important,” McDonald said.

“I know obviously galloping trackwork is a bit different to race pressure, but I was pretty happy with the way he got around the bends.”

“He finished off his work really nicely.”

Waller brought a small team of horses to Caulfield on Tuesday morning, including Caulfield Stakes contenders Unforgotten and D’Argento, Thousand Guineas hope Fiesta and Toorak Handicap chance Noire.

Stranger Things was one of last year’s best new shows on Netflix or otherwise. It captured a unique sense of nostalgia for the 80s as well as channeling a unique and fresh take on sci-fi, thriller, and suspense genres, all with an ensemble cast of standout child actors.

At San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) this week we got the chance to stop by the Netflix interactive loft at the Hilton Gaslamp and see elaborate displays for Marvel’s Defenders, the upcoming Netflix-only film Bright, and of course Stranger Things. With Season 2 of Stranger Things poised to release this October, excitement is understandably high. In fact, the experience we saw was nominated for an Emmy this year in the Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media Within A Scripted Program category.

In the video above you can see a passive 360 version of the VR experience. The quality is lower, you can’t move around or interact with anything, and it’s a noticeably inferior tier of content. But at SDCC we got the chance to try out the fully roomscale Vive version of it and came away very impressed.

After talking with CBS Digital, the creators of the Stranger Things VR experience, it was clear that they designed different versions on purpose. This 360 video was the most accessible and the Vive version was a step above that. In fact, SDCC this week is the first time the Vive edition of it has been available to the general public.

Things start out in Joyce Byers’ (Winona Ryder) living room as the lights around her are illuminating like they do in Season 1 of the show. All I had to do was follow their path with the flashlight and the experience automatically teleported me from the living room, to the kitchen, and eventually to the hallway. I noticed a tall, dark monster — just like the ones in the show — creeping along outside the house.

Eventually, in the hallway, the phone rings. I physically walk down the hall using the Vive’s roomscale tracking, pick up the phone, and hear a child’s voice on the other end. I’m assuming it was Will (Noah Schnapp) since that’s Joyce’s son in the show who is missing. He tells me to turn around.

I slowly look behind me and see the monster creeping towards me ever so slowly in the darkness. All the lights go out and then BOOM — it appears right in my face and screeches at me. The end.

It wasn’t very long but it was effective. While the content of the 360 version at the top of this article is similar, the Vive version was tremendously better. In the video embedded right above here you can even watch the cast of the show reacting to a more advanced version as well.

Going a step beyond even the Vive experience that we tried they have an even larger warehouse-scale version of it running at the CBS Digital offices that uses a wireless setup via backpack computers and OptiTrack sensors. Then even beyond that version they’ve created a high-scale edition that uses a live actor wearing a mo-cap suit that walks around the environment and becomes the monster in real-time, creating a terrifying, futuristic version of hide and seek.

Hopefully the Vive version gets released on Steam so that everyone with roomscale VR can try it at home.

Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse won the men’s 200-metre event at the Jamaica International Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday. 

The 22-year-old from Markham, Ont., clocked 20.14 seconds to record his first individual victory of the season. 

De Grasse, who won Olympic silver in the same distance in Rio, outlasted American LaShawn Merritt (20.28) and Great Britain’s Zarnel Hughes (20.29), who finished third. 

“I just tried to run a fast 150 and then hold on,” De Grasse — who told Reuters he had been battling some injury concerns — explained. “I’m just trying to come back into form, get my fitness right and get ready for the rest of the season.

“But now I’m feeling good and I’m ready to run.”

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson cruised to a world leading equalling 22.09 seconds to win the 200.
 
Thompson, the fifth fastest woman over the distance with 21.66, took control of the race coming off the bend, created some separation, then cruised to the finish line ahead of Shericka Jackson and American Shalonda Solomon.
 
Americans Tori Bowie and Deajah Stevens have also both clocked 22.09 this year.
 
“My race plan was to get off the corner as early as possible and then control my race and take it from there,” the 24-year-old Jamaican told Reuters. “It’s all about winning and perfecting the technique and execution.
 
“This is just a preparation for a bigger and better year heading into London.”

Yohan Blake wows home crowd

Jamaica’s Yohan Blake won the men’s 100 in 9.93 after he took control of the race after 40 metres and pulled away from the American pair of Ronnie Baker, who took second in 9.98 and Mike Rodgers, who clocked 10.02.
 
“It’s always good to start off the season with a 9.93,” Blake said. “I’m feeling really good … and it gives me great confidence going forward and a time to aim for at the London world championships.”
 
American Morolake Akinosun won the women’s 100 in a photo finish ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle Lee-Ahye. Both were credited with a time of 11.06. Allyson Felix was third in a season best 11.07.
 
Kyron McMaster of the British Virgin Islands also logged a world leading time of 47.80 to win the men’s 400 hurdles.

Jamaica’s Asafa Powell won last year’s 200 on home soil in 20.45 and was slated to race Saturday but withdrew on Thursday after aggravating his Achilles tendinitis at Doha Diamond League. 

Brittany Crew breaks Canadian shot put record

Mississauga, Ont., native Brittany Crew set another Canadian shot put record on Saturday (18.58 metres) at the Tucson Elite Classic. 

On Thursday, the 23-year-old had already broken the Canadian record by throwing 18.47m. Julie Labonté previously held the record of 18.31m, set in 2011.

It was already known that Zelda Breath of the Wild Wii U and Nintendo Switch had proved proved popular titles but now there are more impressive stats to back that up.

Nintendo announced today that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has now sold a total of 1.3 million units when combined on both devices.

The Nintendo Switch game version sold 925,000 copies, while almost 460,000 have been shipped so far on The Wii U. 

Add to that these are only based on the combined physical and digital sales in the US only, and you can imagine how relieved Nintendo will be for deciding to delay multiple times has paid off.

Nintendo also announced today that the Nintendo Switch has sold more 906,000 units in the US during March, meaning that some fans may have bought two copies.

“That means that Nintendo sold more of this game [Breath of the Wild] for Nintendo Switch than it sold Nintendo Switch systems, for an attach rate of more than 100 percent,” Nintendo said. 

“This may be attributed to people who purchased both a limited edition of the game to collect and a second version to play.”

It could also mean that players may have first bought the game for their Wii U, before deciding to go out and buy a Nintendo Switch.

Meanwhile, Zelda Breath of the Wild in the UK also provided a boost to the Wii U, with 50,000 software sales reported in March.

The new Legend of Zelda title is currently rated as the best Wii U game of all time, beating the likes of Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. and Bayonetta 2.

However, when it comes to user scores, Metacritic lists The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as the top picks.

It follows the news that New Legend of Zelda figures were shown during the Nintendo Direct presentation, confirming that three new Amiibos will make their debut very soon.

Nintendo revealed that they will launch three versions of Link based on models from previous games, including: Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword.

These will land on June 23 and while it wasn’t confirmed during the Direct presentation, it seems more than likely that they will help unlock missing outfits from the game.

On the official Nintendo site, all three figures are listed as compatible with the Nintendo Switch game: Zelda Breath of the Wild, as well as the Wii U version.

“This amiibo figure shows Link in a classic pose from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess game, where he joined forces with a mysterious creature named Midna to lift a shroud of twilight that had fallen across the land of Hyrule,” the full description reads for one.

The official guidebook for the game has confirmed that there are currently two outfits that can’t be collected right now, The Skyward Sword outfit and Fierce Deity outfit.
