So far this season fans have been treated to parodies of the time travel genre, heist thrillers and fantasy epics.

However, the onslaught of fan theories like this have led some to believe Rick and Morty will introduce some major revelations in the latter half of the current season.

No exact release date has been set for the show’s return, but a recent teaser has spurred hopes it could be back within the next month.

Rick and Morty season 4 will return to Adult Swim and E4 in 2020.

Google model identifies restaurants that could give you food poisoning https://briefnews.eu/google-model-identifies-restaurants-that-could-give-you-food-poisoning/ https://briefnews.eu/google-model-identifies-restaurants-that-could-give-you-food-poisoning/#respond Tue, 06 Nov 2018 15:58:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/google-model-identifies-restaurants-that-could-give-you-food-poisoning/

Google could soon tell you which restaurants are more likely to give you food poisoning, thanks to an algorithm that can identify lapses in food safety in near real time. Working with researchers from Harvard University, Google tested a machine-learned model in Chicago and Las Vegas to identify user search queries such as “stomach cramps” or “diarrhea”, and then cross-referenced them with saved location history data — in particular recently-visited food establishments — from the smartphones used to make those searches.

Health inspectors were then sent to a number of restaurants: some identified by Google’s model as potentially unsafe, and others identified by traditional methods, such as consumer complaints — the inspectors didn’t know which. When the researchers compared the model with routine inspections by health departments in Las Vegas and Chicago, they found that the overall rate across both cities of unsafe restaurants detected by the model was 52.3 percent, whereas the overall rate of detection of unsafe restaurants via routine inspections across the two cities was 22.7 percent.

Study co-author and Google research scientist Evgeniy Gabrilovich said the model could play a major role in combatting the persistent problem of foodborne illness. “In this study, we have just scratched the surface of what is possible in the realm of machine-learned epidemiology,” he said. “I liken the analogy to the work of Dr John Snow, the father of modern epidemiology, who in 1854 had to go door to door in central London, asking people where they took their water from to find the source of a cholera outbreak. Today, we can use online data to make epidemiological observations in near real-time, with the potential for significantly improving public health in a timely and cost-efficient manner.”

Sessions described the sending of explosive devices as “utterly unacceptable,” adding that “political violence or threat of violence is utterly antithetical to our system” and vowing to bring in the “full force of the law.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed the identity of the suspect as Cesar Sayoc, 56, of Florida. Media reports have identified him as a supporter of President Donald Trump.

Though none of the improvised explosive devices actually detonated, Wray stressed that “these are not hoax devices.”

A total of 13 IEDs were sent to a number of prominent Democrats, Wray said, describing each device as consisting of a 6-inch plastic pipe, a small clock, battery, some wiring, and an “energetic material” intended to ignite.

The FBI was able to identify the suspect based on a latent fingerprint from a package sent to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California) and intercepted in the congressional mail facility near Washington, DC. Sayoc’s identification was confirmed by DNA that was found on one of the packages, which matched the samples on file from the Florida man’s earlier brushes with the law, Wray added.

“There may be other packages in transit now,” the FBI director said, noting that “We are not out of the woods yet.”

  • The stock market has resumed its normal, sharp swings in both directions after a historically quiet year.
  • Amid the volatility in February and March, a “single winner” emerged, according to Larry Hatheway, the head of investment solutions and chief group economist at GAM.
  • “With the advent of two-way markets, where people who buy stocks can make money or lose money (which was largely absent in 2017), you’re beginning to see investors focus on what can deliver hopefully reliable or predictable, perhaps less volatile performance,” he told Business Insider.

As stocks surged last year and in early 2018, the most popular technology stocks became a bandwagon on which investors could ride.

This so-called momentum strategy of betting on stocks that are on an upward trend has been recently challenged amid a barrage of negative news about tech companies.

Ricciardo identifies major Red Bull correction https://briefnews.eu/ricciardo-identifies-major-red-bull-correction/ https://briefnews.eu/ricciardo-identifies-major-red-bull-correction/#respond Sun, 25 Mar 2018 22:35:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ricciardo-identifies-major-red-bull-correction/ RED Bull remain hopeful they will be a match for Mercedes and Ferrari at the start of F1 2018 despite a difficult Australian Grand Prix.

While Daniel Ricciardo was stuck on the back foot all weekend after being on the receiving end of a controversial grid penalty, Max Verstappen was better placed before spinning after being passed off the line by Haas’ Kevin Magnussen.

But Ricciardo recovered to finish fourth and set the fastest lap of the season-opener, and he felt this proved Red Bull arguably had the quickest car of the three leading teams despite Sebastian Vettel’s victory.

“I think we’re really close to Ferrari’s pace,” the Australian said after his joint-best result at his home race.

“We were definitely one of, if not the quickest car on track today.

“Hopefully that’s representative moving forward, I think we’ve still got to find pace on one lap but the race pace is good.”

Ricciardo showed great speed following the Safety Car and managed to push Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen close for what would have been a maiden podium in Melbourne, but just couldn’t execute a final pass.

“I obviously tried to do all I could with Kimi,” he said.

“It’s a tight track, it is tricky to overtake but we set the fastest lap and that’s really good signs for things to come in the next few weeks.”

Red Bull’s race-one speed is a far-cry from their start to the season last year, when they were around a second-a-lap off Mercedes and Ferrari at Albert Park.

And even Verstappen, who was frustrated at finishing sixth behind Fernando Alonso’s McLaren, could take solace from the improvements.

“As soon as we were in clean air the pace was good,” he said.

“We don’t need to worry, we just need to focus on getting a clean qualifying and then in the race everything should sort itself out.”

Verstappen explained that he was compromised by damage to his car in the opening laps, which affected his RB14’s balance and was the reason for his spin.

“Suddenly I had a lot of issues with the car, balance problems, and we found out after four or five laps something broke off the car,” he added.

“All the time in the middle of the corner I was losing a lot of grip and at one point I got caught out at Turn One and spun.

“It’s not ideal but luckily with the 360 I didn’t lose too many positions. After that you are in the hunt but you can’t overtake on this track so it’s a bit of a shame.

“With the circumstances we were in, the damage we had, we still scored some points.”

ALONSO GUNNING FOR RED BULL SCALPS

Fernando Alonso says McLaren’s next target is catching Red Bull after his fifth-place led home a double-points finish for the team at the Australian Grand Prix.

In McLaren’s first race with their new Renault power units, Alonso recorded his joint-best result since rejoining the team in 2015 while Stoffel Vandoorne finished ninth.

Alonso took advantage of the Virtual Safety Car period to gain places through his pit stop phase and then held off Max Verstappen through the final 20 laps at Albert Park.

“It is the first race with this [McLaren-Renault] combination so a lot more to come and hopefully from Bahrain we will see another step forward and Red Bull will be the next target,” Alonso told Sky F1.

“There is a lot of potential in the car but still to be unlocked.”

The two-time world champion is also confident McLaren can put more pressure on the front-runners in upcoming races, having finished 20 seconds behind Daniel Ricciardo in fourth.

He added: “Right now [Red Bull] are still clearly ahead of us and are in that exclusive group of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.

“McLaren is willing to enter that group and I think in the coming races we will forget the middle group and we look forward to those privilege three top teams.”

Alonso’s fifth-place, from starting 10th on the grid, was assisted by both Haas cars suffering retirements with loose wheels.

But the Spaniard says he expected to be able to challenge for the top five from the start given McLaren’s better pace on long runs compared to their single-lap form.

“It was more or less expected to be honest. We knew we had a strong race pace and better than Qualifying. We capitalised on some of the problems that others had,” he added.

“I’m happy, it was great work from the team, the integration of our power unit in two or three months and we redesigned some of the car last winter.

“Now we are here, both cars in the points, fifth place so happy and a good starting point.”

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier also hinted the team had run conservatively in Melbourne given the team’s reliability issues over the winter.

“We took advantage of anything today. We know we have more pace in the car which we can unlock in the future but we could have unlocked it as well this weekend,” Boullier said.

While Google might soon switch VIPs over to advanced protection in the form of physical keys, the rest of us are fine with typical security practices — so long as we follow them. To better secure your Google account, the company has a new version of its Security Checkup feature that points out vulnerabilities. Instead of needing to run through the same generic checklist of questions, the tool will instead identify weak areas in your account setup and bring them to your attention.

None of the security suggestions (removing certain extensions, for example, or enabling 2-step verification) are new, and it still uses green checks marking safe setup and yellow/red checks denoting areas that need fixing. Only the personalized system is new, but hey, any time not spent glossing over what you’ve already correctly set up is more mental bandwidth to make your account less vulnerable. Visit the Security Checkup page to see the updated version.

J.D. Power study identifies top seats for your tush https://briefnews.eu/j-d-power-study-identifies-top-seats-for-your-tush/ https://briefnews.eu/j-d-power-study-identifies-top-seats-for-your-tush/#respond Tue, 29 Aug 2017 16:48:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/j-d-power-study-identifies-top-seats-for-your-tush/

File under News your fanny can use: The seating systems in the FordEscape and Edge, the Audi A3, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Cadenza, Porsche Cayenne and Toyota Tundra received top marks in a new J.D. Power study on seating and seat belt quality and satisfaction.

The J.D. Power 2017 Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study asked more than 77,000 new owners and lessees of 2017 model-year cars and light trucks to rate their vehicle’s seats and seat belts within the first 90 days of taking ownership. The survey is broken up into seven vehicle segments and scored on total seat problems per 100 within each segment, with awards presented to the seating system supplier.

Canadian auto supplier Magna won three of seven first-place awards for its seating systems in the A3, Escape and Edge. Ireland-based Adient got top marks for its seats in the Cadenza and Cayenne. Lear Corp. won for the Cruze, and Avanzar Interior Technologies scored highest for seats in the Tundra.

J.D. Power says its study is intended for automakers and suppliers with quality and satisfaction information to be used in developing and marketing seating systems. “But the results are just as interesting to a consumer audience,” the company says. “After all, some drivers spend a considerable amount of time behind the wheel, and it’s helpful to know which vehicles offer the most comfortable seats for those long commutes.”

Ain’t that the truth.

Ford was the only automaker whose seat systems, both manufactured by Magna, received top honors in two segments: the Escape for mass-market compact SUV and the Edge for mass-market midsize/large SUV.

J.D. Power says it used 22 attributes to measure seat quality, three measures of seat belt quality and 12 to measure satisfaction.

Awards were presented to the seating suppliers.
