Piers Morgan, 55, was the first of two celebrities who took part in the festive special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Host Jeremy Clarkson, 60, welcomed him to the stage and took swipes at the Good Morning Britain star as the pair joked about their rivalry. The journalist was playing for his chosen charity and he was hoping to win a good amount of cash to donate, though the ITV quiz show presenter humiliated the broadcaster when he said he wouldn’t scoop £1million.

Introducing the journalist, the host said made a jibe about Piers, saying: “The next contestant is someone with whom I have had a few disagreements over the years.

“Come on, it’s Christmas so let’s put all that behind us and play nicely as we welcome the simply awful human being, Piers Morgan,” he joked.

When the player then entered the studio, Jeremy told his guest: “I’m just reading what it said on the autocue.

“It did not say that on the autocue,” the broadcaster hit back as he laughed nervously to which the quizmaster replied: “It did say that on the autocue.

“You should have seen what I wrote, it was way worse,” the former Top Gear star remarked before going on to inform viewers of who the player was.

Refereeing to his job, the game show master said: “You’re a daytime television host,” but his colleague disagreed.

“I’m a breakfast TV star, yes,” the journalist declared as he tried to put the former Top Gear star in his place.

“Um, daytime,” the host replied, then going on to inform the broadcaster of how proceedings were going to play out.

“I need to talk you through the rules because you’re usually in bed when this show is on,” the quiz show presenter said.

The quiz show presenter asked the journalist: “Which of these world champion racing drivers has not been a teammate of Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1?”

There were four options for Piers to chose from, which included Kimi Räikkönen, Nico Rosberg, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button.

Unsure as to the correct answer and having used his lifelines, the broadcaster went for the latter as he made a complete guess.

Unfortunately, Kimi Räikkönen was the correct answer and this meant the Good Morning Britain star had to leave the table.

Before he did, Jeremy told the outspoken journalist: “You’ve humiliated yourself. And you’ve cost yourself £15,000.

“But actually very nobly, credit where credit is due, you’re going to make up the difference. I’m trying to think of a positive.

“You did make it to £4,000 all on your own, then everybody else helped you the rest of the way. You were brave to come on and I was brave to have you.

“We’ve embodied the Christmas spirit,” the host continued before showing Piers the way out of the studio.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is available to stream on the ITV Hub.

“So again it’s all now building up nicely, do you like it now?” she asked and the lady replied: “Yes it’s growing on me!”

“And if this went into auction you would be looking at an estimate of between £4,000 and £5,000,” Susan revealed.

“You’re kidding me?” the lady exclaimed. “That’s ridiculous because whenever I told my mum I was coming here, she brought this out and I said ‘I’m not taking that! That’s just a big lump of glass!’

“Obviously humiliated!” she stated.

‘Racially profiled & humiliated’: Black candidate busted for dealing politics seeks apology https://briefnews.eu/racially-profiled-humiliated-black-candidate-busted-for-dealing-politics-seeks-apology/ https://briefnews.eu/racially-profiled-humiliated-black-candidate-busted-for-dealing-politics-seeks-apology/#respond Sun, 23 Sep 2018 00:42:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/racially-profiled-humiliated-black-candidate-busted-for-dealing-politics-seeks-apology/

An African-American nominee for the Wisconsin State Assembly told RT that she felt hurt and humiliated after being racially profiled and reported to cops as she was canvassing her electorate in a predominantly white neighborhood.

Ahead of the Democratic primary for a state Assembly seat in Wisconsin’s 77th District, Shelia Stubbs was knocking on doors in her neighborhood trying to secure votes in August. As she was campaigning, an anonymous call was placed, notifying the police of a “suspicious vehicle” potentially involved in drug-dealing.

When approached by a patrol officer, the 12-year veteran of the Dane County Board of Supervisors was forced to provide detailed explanations of her activities in the neighborhood. After seeing her name tag and campaign fliers, the police were still unconvinced and questioned her 71-year-old mother to clear the matter. The entire interrogation unfolded in front of her eight-year-old daughter who was patiently waiting with her grandmother inside Stubbs’ car.

“I’m definitely a victim of racial profiling and the police was called on me because I was black,” Stubbs told RT, calling the police response “insulting” and a “waste of our taxpayers’ dollars.”

“My eight-year-old daughter looks at my eyes and says, ‘Mom, why don’t we belong here?’ Why don’t they believe us?’ and that degraded me and humiliated me. And I was so angry and I was so hurt,” she recalled.

The unpleasant experience has forced the official to halt her campaigning in the neighborhood out of fear that someone might once-again report her to the police. In light of the incident, Stubbs sought justice and an “apology” from the anonymous caller, all while wondering “What does a drug-dealer look like? What does a drug-dealer car look like?”

After securing the Democratic primary vote, Stubbs had vowed to campaign against racial injustice ahead of the November election.

India humiliated by England swing kings in Lord’s thrashing https://briefnews.eu/india-humiliated-by-england-swing-kings-in-lords-thrashing/ https://briefnews.eu/india-humiliated-by-england-swing-kings-in-lords-thrashing/#respond Sun, 12 Aug 2018 22:17:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/india-humiliated-by-england-swing-kings-in-lords-thrashing/ JAMES Anderson and Stuart Broad shared eight wickets before Chris Woakes completed a brilliant return to international duty with the final blow as England thrashed India by an innings and 159 runs in the second Test at Lord’s on Sunday.

India, the world’s top-ranked Test side, failed to cope with overcast and swing-friendly conditions in both their innings, with a rain-marred match effectively over in under two days’ standard playing time.

India were dismissed for 130 on Sunday’s fourth day, having been skittled out for just 107 first-time around.

Anderson, England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, finished with innings figures of four for 23 as he became the first bowler to take 100 Test wickets at Lord’s.

Allied to a first-innings return of five for 20, that meant Anderson had a match haul of nine for 43.

“I am not very proud of the way we played,” India captain Virat Kohli told Sky Sports. “England deserved to win; we deserved to lose.” Victory left England 2-0 up in this five-match series after their 31-run win in the first Test at Edgbaston last week.

“The bowling unit were exceptional throughout the whole game,” said Joe Root, the England captain.

“The conditions were in our favour but you still have to ask questions and we did.” Only once have a side come from 2-0 down to win a five-match Test series, when a Don Bradman inspired Australia recovered to beat England in 1936-37.

This match was a personal triumph for Woakes, who was recalled by England in place of Ben Stokes because of his fellow pace-bowling all-rounder’s ongoing trial for affray.

Woakes’s 137 not out, his maiden Test century, was the cornerstone of England’s 7-396 declared.

He also shared an England record sixth-wicket stand against India of 189 with Jonny Bairstow (93).

That partnership helped England recover from a top-order collapse that saw them slump to 4-89 at lunch on the third day.

Man-of-the-match Woakes also had overall figures of four for 43. “To get to a position where we could declare after Jonny and Woakesy’s magnificent partnership, I am chuffed to bits for Woakesy to get a hundred,” said Root.

His century saw Woakes become just the fourth cricketer after England’s Gubby Allen and Ian Botham and Australia’s Keith Miller to have scored a century and taken 10 or more wickets in a Test at Lord’s, with the Warwickshire star returning match figures of 11 for 102 at the ‘home of cricket’ against Pakistan two years ago.

“To get a hundred and be on the honours board is something that will stay with me forever,” said Woakes.

Sunday’s humid and cloudy conditions were ideal for 36-year-old Lancashire swing bowler Anderson, who has now taken 553 Test wickets.

That left Anderson, fifth in the all-time Test standings, just 10 wickets behind Glenn McGrath’s tally of 563 — the most by any paceman at this level, with the top three places all belonging to spinners.

Having bowled opener Murali Vijay for nought in the first innings, it was not long before Anderson had him caught behind for a second duck — his 100th wicket in 23 Tests at Lord’s.

Vijay’s fellow opener KL Rahul fell for 10 when lbw to Anderson.

After lunch, Ajinkya Rahane (13) was well caught by Keaton Jennings at third slip off Broad.

Rahane’s exit brought in Kohli, the world’s top-ranked batsman coming in at number five rather than his usual number four position because of a stiff back.

But Kohli, who hopes to be fit for the third Test in Nottingham starting on Saturday, could only watch as Broad’s superb late inswinger knocked over off stump to bowl Cheteshwar Pujara for 17.

Kohli, needing prolonged on-field treatment, fell for 17 when caught by debutant Ollie Pope at short-leg off Broad.

And the next ball saw Broad have Dinesh Karthik plumb lbw.

Ravichandran Ashwin (33 not out) survived the hat-trick, Broad spearing the ball legside for four byes, before Woakes ended the match when Ishant Sharma was caught by Pope at leg-slip.

‘Staggering’: A-League humiliated https://briefnews.eu/staggering-a-league-humiliated/ https://briefnews.eu/staggering-a-league-humiliated/#respond Sun, 06 May 2018 19:05:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/staggering-a-league-humiliated/ LAST night’s explosive A-League grand final descended into chaos as a “disgraceful” kick from Newcastle Jets star Roy O’Donovan floored opposition goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas.

But surprisingly, it wasn’t the most shocking error seen on the field at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.

Newcastle fans, who flocked in the thousands to see their team play in the first regionally-hosted grand final, were slapped with a wet fish after a technical failure allowed Melbourne the only goal of the match.

Victory star Kosta Barbarouses slotted in a goal after a free kick soared over the heads of Newcastle defenders. Fans were quick to point out the referee’s obvious blunder in failing to bring up James Donachie — who passed the ball back to Barbarouses before he scored the goal — as off-side.

Barely 12 hours after Melbourne raised the cup, the competition was out apologising to Newcastle fans for the monumental slip-up.

Football Federation of Australia’s Head of A-League Greg O’Rourke said a failure by technology used by the VAR (video assistant referee) meant they were unable to make a call on the goal.

“We are extremely disappointed at this failure of the VAR technology,” O’Rourke said, “And we understand the disappointment and frustration of the Newcastle Jets, their fans and indeed all football fans.

“VAR was introduced here and in other parts of the world as a technology based solution to correct the human errors that inevitably are made from time to time when officials are making judgments in split seconds.”

O’Rourke admitted the cameras available weren’t able to pick up the angle required to deem the call off-side.

“On this occasion the technology itself failed and the broadcast angles required were unavailable. We are working with Hawkeye to thoroughly understand why it did and what can be done to prevent this happening again.”

Australian media personality Waleed Aly said the VAR had been a “disaster” in the A-League all season.

“I am an opponent of technological intervention in sport,” Aly said on ABC’s Offsiders. “I think it sells a false hope of perfection it can never attain. It doesn’t ever remove human error and when it is used well it usually causes intolerable delays in the game, so the end product you’re chasing ends up being a mirage.

“I just don’t think it’s very good. I can’t stand the whole intervention — I think it’s been a bit of a disaster.”

Understandably, fans were livid at the outcome which marred the close of the A-League’s 13th season.

Former Socceroo John Kosmina weighed in on the scandal that has become the main talking point out of the game.

“It’s a pity that we’re talking about technology failing again, well not the technology but the people who are using the technology failing again,” Kosmina said on Sky News.

“There was such a fantastic game of football that we should be discussing, but technology is only as good as the people who operate it or as compotent as the people who operate it so obviously the guy who was on the VAR last night was incompetent and it’s a pity that the goal stood.

“Let’s get it fixed up or maybe get rid of it for next season.”

READ THE FULL STATEMENT

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has conducted a review into the goal decision by the VAR during last night’s Hyundai A-League 2018 Grand Final between the Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory.

It has found that a technical failure in the VAR system meant that the Video Assistant Referee did not have access to the camera views which would have enabled him to make an off-side ruling in the 9th minute goal scored for Melbourne Victory by Kosta Barbarouses.

FFA’s Head of Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, said that according to the technology partner Hawkeye, the capture software that uploads the broadcast feed into the VAR system was partially lost 30 seconds before Victory’s goal due to a malfunction of software.

It was not until some minutes after the goal that this was restored, too late to change the decision on the goal as the game had restarted.

Under VAR regulations, where there is no clear evidence to the contrary, the on field decision — in this case allowing the goal — stands.

The camera feed to broadcaster’s FOX SPORTS, which is routed separately, was not affected.

“We are extremely disappointed at this failure of the VAR technology,” O’Rourke said, “And we understand the disappointment and frustration of the Newcastle Jets, their fans and indeed all football fans.

“VAR was introduced here and in other parts of the world as a technology based solution to correct the human errors that inevitably are made from time to time when officials are making judgments in split seconds.

“On this occasion the technology itself failed and the broadcast angles required were unavailable. We are working with Hawkeye to thoroughly understand why it did and what can be done to prevent this happening again.

“While we understand that this happened only once this season it was at a most critical time. All parties desire the technology to be failure proof and that is what we will be striving for.”

“This is important not just for the Hyundai A-League but for other leagues around the world and for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia at which VAR will be used for the first time,” concluded O’Rourke.”

‘Humiliated’ Instagram star booted off AA flight (VIDEOS) https://briefnews.eu/humiliated-instagram-star-booted-off-aa-flight-videos/ https://briefnews.eu/humiliated-instagram-star-booted-off-aa-flight-videos/#respond Mon, 29 Jan 2018 13:33:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/humiliated-instagram-star-booted-off-aa-flight-videos/

Police removed Instagram fitness model Jen Selter from a New York-bound American Airlines flight over the weekend, after she got into a heated argument with a flight attendant.

The 24 year old posted several clips of the encounter, filmed by her sister, on Twitter which showed the aftermath of an argument between Selter and a male flight attendant.

Selter, who has 11.7 million Instagram followers, says the delayed flight had been sitting on the tarmac for more than two hours on Saturday night, when she got up to stretch and put her jacket away.

Selter says a flight attendant yelled at her to sit down so they could take off, but when she told him to “relax” because the two people sitting next to her were in the bathroom, he asked her if she wanted to be kicked off the plane. She jokingly replied “yes.”

The attendant, however, contacted the pilot who called police to escort Selter off the flight.

“It was humiliating. They made me feel like a terrible person, and I did nothing wrong,” Selter told the New York Post.

In a second video an airport security officer can be heard telling Selter: “American Airlines calls the shots. They don’t want you to fly on their plane today.”

“All of a sudden five cops came up,” said Selter. “I was literally getting attacked.”

As well as Selter and her sister, a male passenger who was sitting in front of them and who can be heard accusing the flight attendant of harassment was also booted off the plane. A fourth passenger then chose to disembark in response to how the group was treated.

A representative for the airline told RT.com that they tried to accommodate Selter:

“Ms. Selter was asked to leave the aircraft after a disagreement occurred last night at Miami International Airport (MIA),” they said. “American offered her hotel accommodations and transportation, which she declined.”

Bush ethics lawyer: Trump-appointed FBI Director Chris Wray is ‘allowing himself to be humiliated’ by the president https://briefnews.eu/bush-ethics-lawyer-trump-appointed-fbi-director-chris-wray-is-allowing-himself-to-be-humiliated-by-the-president/ https://briefnews.eu/bush-ethics-lawyer-trump-appointed-fbi-director-chris-wray-is-allowing-himself-to-be-humiliated-by-the-president/#respond Wed, 27 Dec 2017 05:52:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bush-ethics-lawyer-trump-appointed-fbi-director-chris-wray-is-allowing-himself-to-be-humiliated-by-the-president/ chris wrayAP/Andrew Harnik

  • Richard Painter, an ethics lawyer in George W. Bush’s administration, said FBI Director Chris Wray is “allowing himself to be humiliated” by President Donald Trump.
  • Trump appointed Wray to lead the FBI after he fired the former director James Comey in May.
  • After Comey’s firing, the president said during televised interviews that he had in mind the Russia investigation — which Comey had been leading — when he fired him.
  • Since Wray took over, Trump and his allies have dramatically escalated their attacks on the bureau, some of its agents, and the Russia probe at large.

A Bush administration ethics lawyer says the newly installed FBI Director Chris Wray is not doing enough to counter President Donald Trump’s attacks on the bureau.

“FBI Director Chris Wray in allowing himself and the FBI to be humiliated by Trump and by political hacks in Congress,” Richard Painted said on Tuesday. “Wray needs to do his job and tell all of them to cut it out. If Wray can’t do that he should resign.”

Painter added later: “It’s time for Chris Wray to stand up or stand down.”

Those comments follow what has been a dramatic escalation in attacks from Trump and his right-leaning supporters in recent weeks.

The cohort has publicly questioned to political leanings of law-enforcement officials at the highest levels of government in what some observers have characterized as a manifestation of Trump’s fears about the federal Russia investigation, which is being led by special counsel Robert Mueller. A GOP congressman on Tuesday called for a “purge” at the FBI.

In the last 30 days alone, Trump has tweeted disparaging comments about the FBI 10 times, most recently on December 24 when he shared false information about the wife of Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe.

Wray has not publicly commented on Trump’s latest attacks, but according to a December 4 report from The New York Times, Wray sent an email to FBI employees saying, “We find ourselves under the microscope each and every day — and rightfully so. We do hard work for a living.”He urged employees to “continue to keep focused on our critical mission.”

Wray added: “Keep calm and tackle hard.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s allies inside and outside of the US government have parroted the president’s broadsides against the nation’s career law-enforcement officials. Intelligence leaders sounded off about that en masse last week.

  • Melissa Gilbert, who starred on “Little House on the Prairie” from 1974 to 1983, said on SiriusXM’s “Andy Cohen Live” that director Oliver Stone humiliated her during an audition for 1991 movie “The Doors.”
  • Gilbert alleged that Stone did it to get back at her for saying something disparaging about him in public.
  • She explained, “The whole scene was just my character on her hands and knees saying, ‘Do me, baby.’ Really dirty, horrible. Then he said, ‘I’d like you to stage it for me.'”
  • Listen to Gilbert’s interview below.

“Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert says she understands the power dynamic that’s fueling today’s numerous accounts of sexual misconduct in Hollywood. She alleges that Oliver Stone used a sexually-charged audition to get revenge on her for disparaging remarks she made about him in public.

“There were moments where there were men in more powerful positions, one in particular, who humiliated me at one point in an audition, and unnecessarily, because I had embarrassed him in a social situation,” she said Monday on SiriusXM radio show “Andy Cohen Live.” “He got back at me, and I ran out of the room crying. I’m actually sitting here telling you this story afraid to say his name because I’m worried about backlash.”

Gilbert said the incident occurred while she was auditioning for 1991’s “The Doors” movie. Stone told her he had a “special scene” he wanted her to read with an actor in order to see their chemistry.

She then explained, “The whole scene was just my character on her hands and knees saying, ‘Do me, baby.’ Really dirty, horrible. Then he said, ‘I’d like you to stage it for me.'”

Gilbert said she refused to physically act out the scene and left the audition.

“I left crying, and I never really talked about it,” she told Cohen. “It was all because I had said something and embarrassed him publicly.”

After telling the story, Gilbert finally named the director: ‘F— it, it was Oliver Stone and it was ‘The Doors’ movie.

Representatives for Stone didn’t immediately respond to INSIDER’s request for comment.

Gilbert’s account of the power dynamic abused by men in Hollywood is just the latest in a string of allegations surfacing. Many notable Hollywood figures including the actors Kevin Spacey and Ed Westwick have been accused of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to rape since an October 5 New York Times exposé detailed allegations going back decades against the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

The Oscar winner played Celeste Wright, who was brutally beaten by her husband Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgard), in the shocking drama.

However, one scene in particular left the 49-year-old feeling “humiliated and devastated” and led her to lash out.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole recalled the moment her on-screen spouse attacked Celeste while she was in the bathroom in the dramatic finale.

The actress commented: “I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around. I just lay on the floor.”

Nicole continued: “I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc [Vallée, director] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes because I was just like…”

When the interviewer Oprah Winfrey offered “exposed”, the film star went on: “I just felt completely humiliated and devastated.

“I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door. I was obviously holding all that rage at what had been done.”

During the candid chat, her co-star Reese Witherspoon revealed how Nicole reached out after the incident.

The 41-year-old added: “We were staying at a hotel and she called me and she says, ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing’.

“She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes and she goes, ‘I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window.’ And she goes, ‘I don’t do stuff like that’.”
