One hundred and fifty pounds of dead smelly fish isn't exactly the recipe for a thriving lakeside restaurant.
Sadly, it's the exact scenario facing Lake Chalet, a seafood restaurant and bar in Oakland, California, that has what's usually considered a prime alfresco opportunity on its dock that extends out into Lake Merritt, the city's downtown 140-acre tidal lagoon.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday that the restaurant has been losing customers due to the stench caused by a bloom of algae that is killing thousands of fish in the lake.
The restaurant's senior operations manager, Scott Salvatierra, told the Chronicle that he has had to compensate customers who had to tap out from eating on the dock because they couldn't "stand the smell."
Salvatierra said he and his staff have scooped out about 150 pounds of dead fish in the last two days with a pool skimmer. Meanwhile, he said customers have decreased 60%, according to the Chronicle.
"We're known for our seafood dishes, so nobody wants to eat seafood dishes with the smell of rotten fish around them," Salvatierra said.
The Chronicle noted that the algae bloom was first reported in Alameda a little more than a month ago, and has spread throughout the San Francisco Bay.
Unhealthy water hasn't been limited to the Bay Area, however. Earlier this week, public health officials in Los Angeles County issued warnings for four area beaches due to the high bacterial levels in the water, the Los Angeles Times reported. Visitors to those beaches have been advised to avoid swimming and other activities.

]]>To recall, the LTE version the Galaxy A23 has been on sale in U.S. stores since March of this year. The most obvious change introduced by the A23 5G is, well, 5G support. However, Samsung has also bumped up the screen refresh rate to 120Hz, which is quite a surprising perk for a phone in this price bracket.

The rest of the phone is not too shabby either. The design follows in the footsteps of its more premium siblings like the well-received Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A73. Unfortunately, it appears that Samsung is only bringing the Tide Black trim to the U.S. market, and not the more appealing Mist Blue and Peach models.
Ont the front you get a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and adaptive tech behind it. But do keep in mind that this is still an LCD panel and not an OLED display, which isn’t surprising given the Galaxy A23 5G’s asking price.
Samsung hasn’t cut any serious corners in the camera department either. Leading the charge is a 50-megapixel main camera, sitting alongside a 5MP snapper for ultrawide photography.

There are a couple of 2MP sensors as well, for depth capture and macro photography, respectively. The selfie camera is a fairly modest affair at just 8MP, housed in a teardrop-shaped notch at the top. For Samsung purists, this notch aesthetic goes by the name Infinity-V.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 chipset runs the show under the hood, married to 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. Buyers will be pleased to find a microSD card slot that allows storage expansion by another 1TB. Samsung, you should extend this love to flagships too.
I’ve personally tested the aforementioned Qualcomm chip ticking inside phones like the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite, Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, and the Vivo T1 — and came out thoroughly impressed by its performance.

It’s cool to see Samsung making a wise choice and not going with one of its low-end Exynos chips for the Galaxy A23 5G. A fairly beefy 5,000 mAh battery keeps the lights on, but there’s no wireless charging perk or blazing-fast wired charging (capped at 25 watts) benefit to be found here.
The Galaxy A23 5G remains loyal to the cause of the 3.5mm headphone jack, so that’s a relief. Interestingly, QuickShare is also part of the package, allowing the phone to seamlessly pair with gadgets like Samsung’s own smartwatches and true wireless earbuds (like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro).
If you’re intrigued by the overall package, the Galaxy A23 5G will be up for grabs from Samsung’s official website and retail outlets starting today. On the carrier compatibility side of things, T-Mobile and AT&T have got you covered.
]]>The rumor suggests that this time around, at least three CPUs are in the works, and they’re the top-of-the-line models, including the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 7 7800XD. Equipping the already powerful flagships with 3D V-Cache would pose a real threat to Intel’s top Raptor Lake CPUs. What can we expect from these gaming beasts?

V8— Greymon55 (@greymon55) August 31, 2022
Not for the first time, we have to make do with Greymon55’s cryptic tweets and dig deeper in order to find out more. This time, Greymon simply tweeted: “V95, V9, V8.” The most logical conclusion is that the leaker is referring to upcoming 3D V-Cache processors, and the numbers refer to CPU models, bringing us to the Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 7900X, and the Ryzen 7 7800X. Greymon55 also teased that these are new models “with more gaming frames per second (fps).”
In the Zen 3 generation of processors, AMD released only one CPU with a 3D V-Cache — the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. It proved to be a successful processor with huge gaming powers, so it didn’t come as a surprise when AMD confirmed it’d be bringing back the V-Cache. No one knew how many and which chips to expect, though; the Ryzen 7 7800X3D was a safe bet, but now, it seems AMD will be adding its most prized CPUs to the list.
It’s too early to tell how AMD will approach stacking the 3D V-Cache on the new Zen 4 processors. Seeing as the high-end Ryzen 9 7950X and Ryzen 9 7900X will come with two Zen 4 core chiplet dies (CCDs), it’s possible that AMD may have cache stacks on top of both the CCDs. In the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, this was never an issue, because it only featured a single CCD.
If AMD continues to utilize the current 64MB SRAM stack, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D might receive a cache as big as 104MB. The Ryzen 9 7900X would get up to 204/140MB, and the Ryzen 9 7950X would sport a massive 208/144MB. The final number depends on whether AMD will utilize a dual CCD or a single CCD stack. Wccftech points out that this is a 2.6 times larger cache for the Ryzen 7 7800X, 2.9 times for the Ryzen 9 7900X, and lastly, 2.8 times larger for the Ryzen 9 7950X.
The kind of performance we might get from a 3D version of the Ryzen 9 7950X is going to be intense. Based on the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, we can expect up to a 15% boost in gaming, and that’s on top of a CPU that AMD claims might be anywhere between 30 to 50 percent faster than the Intel Core i9-12900K.
According to further speculations confirmed by Greymon, the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D might cost $ 799, followed by $ 629 for the Ryzen 9 7900X3D and $ 499 for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. These prices don’t sound too steep, though, so they very well might be higher.
The Twitter leaker expects AMD to announce these new processors during CES 2023, so we still might have a long way to go before we hear more about them. If AMD does indeed release all three, it will certainly shake things up and deal a blow to Intel Raptor Lake, especially if the pricing remains competitive.

When asked about its value on the programme, Charles Hanson said he expected the egg to sell for two to three hundred pounds.
The auctioneer explained: “It’s in remarkably complete condition, with its casing as well. I think to many collectors, this egg really belongs in a museum to celebrate the food fancies through the decades.”
At the auction in Etwall near Derby, buyers scrambled to purchase this piece of history and the hammer price of £800 surpassed all expectations.
The successful bidder was the Bygones museum in Torquay, Devon.
It joins the museum’s collection of unusual historical items and antique food, which includes a Christmas pudding made in 1900.
Viewers can watch this episode of Bargain Hunt in June, although the show airs daily at 12.15pm on BBC One.

Since Valderrama seemed to be wanting to say more about the pictures but wasn’t able to, this moment could hold a lot of significance.
It definitely would if it were the death and funeral of a character that has been on the show for almost 20 years since its very start in 2003.
Of course, the hope remains that Ducky isn’t actually dead is Valderrama was just teasing fans.
But avid NCIS viewers should still brace themselves for a rocky season 18 finale.
NCIS season 18 continues Tuesday, April 6 on CBS.

Piers Morgan would be a ‘huge asset’ for GB News, Andrew Neil told BBC News.
The broadcaster said he would be “delighted” to talk to the ex-GMB host about a move,
“If he’s up for it,” added Mr Neil.
GB News is set to take on the likes of BBC, ITV and Sky News and Mr Neil has confirmed the channel will launch sometime this month in March 2021.
Nicky Campbell was hosting today’s The Big Questions on BBC One and he was joined by a variety of guests in the Manchester studio, and on live video link. A row ensued between Alena Kate Pettitt and Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu about patriarchy in Britain and how some women are being suppressed by males in the workplace and at home.
Nicky kicked off the show by introducing the topics, he said: “Today on The Big Questions, will women every achieve equality and morally, is Shamima Begum Britain’s responsibility?”
With International Women’s Day celebrating the achievements of women across the globe tomorrow, there is “still a long way to go before women achieve equality”.
Everyone was asked what could be done to make progress and changes to reach “true equality for women” and one of the guests spoke about equality of opportunity vs equality of outcome.
Emma Webb, a Research Fellow “disagreed” with Nicky “quite strongly”.
“What we’re talking about here is not equality, it’s about equity and equity in my opinion is not compatible with equality. We’re talking about equality of outcome and equal opportunity.

“Equality of opportunity, we do tend to focus on equality of outcome as a measure of whether or not there is systemic discrimination, it’s seen as pointing to something being wrong within organisations or society more broadly. And I don’t think that’s the right way to look at it,” she added.
“Why wouldn’t you want to look at equality of outcome?” Author Annabelle Williams asked. Emma replied: “I don’t think equality of outcome is first, an indicator of equality of opportunity.”
Toxic masculinity was then mentioned as well as the patriarchy and Author Alena Kate Pettitt was keen to give her view.
“I struggle with this, I honestly don’t feel like I’ve been held back by men whatsoever,” she remarked. “Legislation wise, perhaps, the lawmakers and there should be more women lawmakers of course.
“I grew up in a generation that was girl power all the way, girls can do anything they want to do, I don’t remember a boy saying ‘you can’t do that’. Ye, that’s the narrative, we’re sold a bill of goods, ‘men are going to keep you down, men are going to keep you behind in the workplace’.
“I have worked in very female-dominated environments and it was like crabs pulling each other down. And I’ve also worked in a male-only environment where I was the woman, you’d expect me to be the one t make the tea, whereas actually I was far more respected there,” Alena added.
Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu jumped in: “Can I comment here? Can I just say this is part of the problem, I find a lot of us today, in fact, every single woman, the success we have the opportunities we have is because of other women who went before us and fought the good fight.
“So when we get to the stage that we’re at and I hear comments like ‘I don’t see structural patriarchy’ that actually concerns me.

“The fact that you may not experience certain things, you should be able to see that there are other women who are experiencing systemic patriarchy.
“That should be obvious. That should be enough for us to say, ‘Okay if it’s happening to you, it’s more than likely going to happen to me. Or it may never happen to me but it’s not good, we need to fight it.’
“And the other point about equity and equality, the outcome can be an indicator of equality. And we don’t need to treat them as separate things, they intersect, they coexist, they want the same,” she continued.
“And choices, the choices women make should be available to them, whether they are in their 30s, 40s, decides to have children and raise her kids, should not be a determining factor on what equality of equal outcome means.”
Nicky said: “Alena, do you want to come back in on that?
“And of course, there are huge complications and intricacies along the way because this is not just women and men, we’re talking about cultural differences, social differences, educational differences, religious differences. Goodness only knows what in those categories!”
Alena replied to Dr Shola with: “And I’m not denying that there is a systemic patriarchy, in different pockets of society, in different nations, different businesses.
“I do not believe that there is this overarching patriarchy that’s keeping us down.
“I never felt like I couldn’t achieve anything in my life, yet the choices I’ve made, feminism means choice but my choice is criticised by other women because they believe I’m oppressed and under the patriarchy – which is frankly, insulting.”
Long running Power star Naturi Naughton has been tapped for the lead role in a brand new pilot for ABC, Queens. Best known for her role as Tasha St Patrick in the popular Starz series, the prevalent TV star will portray a former Hip Hop star in an exciting new drama from a producer of Scandal.
Naturi Naughton is set to play Jill, aka Da Thrill, a former Hip Hop legend in a brand new series for ABC, titled Queens.
The Power star will join rapper and actress Eve as the co-lead for an hour-long television pilot from creator Zahir McGhee.
Naughton and Eve will form one half of the Nasty B*****s, a successful music group formed by Jill and her high school friends in the ‘90s.
Eve will portray another member of the group named Brianna, following her recent appearances in Empire, Happy Together and as co-host of Sara Gilbert’s CBS chat show, The Talk.

Now in their 40s, the four women decide to reconnect to try and reclaim their former glory.
Queens will be Naturi Naughton’s first major TV project after her main role in six seasons and a spin-off of Courtney Kemp’s crime drama, Power.
Her role in the series is currently uncertain after Tasha was moved into Witness Protection at the end of Book II’s first season.
Tasha’s departure will leave her son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), to fend for himself in season two, though it is speculated she will be returning for guest appearances in the near future.
When she decides to reconnect with her old friends, their reunion digs up some dark secrets from the past that continue to haunt Jill to this day.
Queens is one of a number of pilot episodes ordered by ABC, and it is not currently known if the upcoming drama will be picked up for a new series.
With Naturi Naughton bringing years of experience as both an actress and musician to the new project, it’s hoped her talents will help ensure Queens’ future success.
Like her co-star Eve, Naughton was also a major recording artist, having been a member of the Platinum selling trio 3LW before her departure in 2002.
The star has received two NAACP Image Awards for her work on Power, and first transitioned to acting by starring in Hairspray on Broadway from 2005-2008.
Her decision to join ABC’s new series is sure to be a sign of quality, as Naughton was reportedly sought after for a number of TV projects after she departed her role as a series regular on Power.
The creator of Queens, Zahir McGhee, is also coming off his work on Stumptown and For the People, as well as a key producer for the last six seasons of the Kerry Washington vehicle, Scandal.
Power Book II is available to watch on Starz and Starzplay.
There’s been no shortage of hard-hitting storylines so far in NCIS: LA season 12, from Marty Deeks (played by Eric Christian Olsen) losing his job to the kidnap of Sam Hanna’s (LL Cool J) daughter. However, in a series of adorable clips to one another on Instagram, Kensi Blye star Daniela Ruah and Nell Jones actor Renee Felice Smith have teased their characters will be working closely together in the next few installments.
In a short series of clips complimenting her NCIS: LA co-star, Smith joked to her 161k Instagram followers: “Daniela and I are starting a fan club for each other okay?
“It’s called the Dani and Renee fan club or the Renee and Dani fan club and we’re just gonna be being fans of each other and I think it’s really cool.
“After we do scenes together – and we have a few really nice scenes coming up and we don’t often get to do that.”
The Nell Jones star didn’t stop there as she heaped praise onto her colleague.

“So it’s been a really special treat especially for me because I get to watch her work and she is like an actual genius person who can do anything I’m pretty sure,
Smith concluded: “So this is the beginning of the Dani/Renee, Renee/Dani fan club where we fan girl about each other.”
Reciprocating the kind words of her NCIS: LA co-star, Ruah shared a few clips of her own.
And she too detailed how Nell and Kensi’s future on the show will see them spending much more time together.
So what is it the two could find themselves working so closely together on?
Well, there are plenty of cases about to land on the OSP’s dead.
And arguably most pressing is the kidnapping of Sam’s daughter Kam (Kayla Smith).
The promo for the next episode hints Callen and Sam will pull out all the stops to track her down, from high-speed car chases to bone-crushing fights.
And beyond that, Callen will land in a rather tricky situation when he heads to Russia.
The synopsis for episode 11, which is Ruah’s directorial debut on the show, confirms Callen will run into the arm of the law during his venture abroad.
But will he be freed with Nell and Kensi’s help? Or do the two have something else up their sleeves?
NCIS: LA returns to CBS on February 14.
