She said before Danny and Oti’s Samba was played: “At number 2, it’s another samba from 2016 Glitterball champion Danny Mac and his partner Oti.” However, Claudia’s error was soon pointed out by those watching at home, who soon expressed their confusion on social media. Taking to Twitter, one joked: “Claudia confirming that Danny Mac actually beat Ore in 2016 is my favourite Christmas present this year.” “How did no one in the production team notice Claudia called Danny and Oti Glitterball champions when introducing their samba? #Strictly,” queried another. Tonight the Strictly Come Dancing contestant took on Movie Week and Jamie Laing and his professional partner Karen Hauer performed the Charleston to Zero to Hero from Disney film Hercules. The pair were full of energy and enthusiasm, which thrilled judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas. But their scoring left viewers baffled. Jamie dressed as hero Hercules for the fast-paced routine and left the judges, and host Tess Daly, laughing non-stop. Motsi said of the routine: “What a comeback! What a comeback! That was really funny. “Like in a good way, it was entertaining. You got the character on point. “You know Jamie I am surprised, you were light on your feet and in the middle it just went over, I can’t explain but you did it right.” READ MORE: John Cleese’s Strictly Come Dancing cameo leaves fans baffled Craig added: “Oh my God! LOL darling. You need to, in the Charleston, you do need to hit the lines, and hit your foot. “You need to get that foot up, it was all very tight and mini.” The judge explained Jamie needs to “loosen up” a little more as the weeks go on. Meanwhile, head judge Shirley said Jamie came back from last week’s dance-off with a “massive improvement” before chanting “Hercules!” “Shirley gave Jamie an 8 and 7 for Maisie. How embarrassing. #Strictly,”a third tweeted, as a fourth shared: “23???? Oh come ON!!! Barely even recognisable as a #Charleston #Strictly.” A fifth posted: ”i’m still confused on how jamie got a higher score than harvey wtf #strictly.” Ahead of tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing, Bill Bailey’s odds of winning were dramatically slashed. After wowing the judges with his Quickstep last week to Talk To The Animals, Bill is now one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball Trophy. He’s hot on the heels of Maisie Smith and HRVY who have been at the top of the leaderboard for the previous two weeks. Bookmakers have now made the comedian just 11/4 in the betting, putting him right behind Maisie (9/4) and HRVY (5/2), with every other name being 10/1 in the betting. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We originally had Bill Bailey priced as a rank 33/1 outsider for this year’s Glitterball Trophy but it looks like the comedian might have the last laugh if the latest odds are anything to go by.” Meanwhile, JJ Chalmers is the bookies favourite to be eliminated tonight with his odds of being booted out now evens. Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday on BBC One at 7.25pm. One shared: “HS2 isn’t a way for the country to become connected. There are already decent train connections on that route, yet still huge parts of the U.K. which are impossible to get to #BBCBreakfast.” “Do we need high-speed trains, or is HS2 a vanity project which in these changing times is redundant and a criminal waste of money? #BBCBreakfast,” asked another. A third commented: “#BBCBreakfast I guess one of the things the COVID situation has shown us is that work can continue without meeting face to face. This probably makes the HS2 even less relevant now.” “The man on #bbcbreakfast not sure who he was but he convinced me (preaching to the choir to be fair) that #HS2 is a huge pointless waste of money time and effort, money time and effort that could be much better spent elsewhere,” agreed another. BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One. This Morning saw Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford back for the final instalment of the week. As ever, the presenters were joined by a range of guests to discuss various topics. One of this morning’s talking points remained COVID-19 after some famous faces, including Denise Welch, have come out and given their thoughts on the Government’s strategy towards the disease. However, when host Eamonn accused Denise of causing “panic” she continued to stay firm on her stance in a heated discussion. Today’s show saw Denise and This Morning’s resident doctor, Dr Sara Kayat speak out on the pandemic. With the Government now urging Britons to go back to work as life slowly begins to resume to normal, many members of the public have differing feelings on what should happen next. And when Eamonn led a debate between Denise and Dr Sara, the former slammed the media and Government’s response, claiming they were not explaining how things had improved. Denise claimed: “At the moment, people aren’t going in (to hospital), aren’t putting their sick relatives into hospital – it’s criminal.” READ MORE: The Chase’s Shaun Wallace sends fans into frenzy with slip-up Taking aim at the news coverage once more, the Denise continued: “What we have is, ‘Bong, fears rise as spikes reach 1,075 positive tests per day’. “So if you’re going to frighten us with how many were dying every day, please enlighten us and tell us how things have improved, when no one is dying.” Touching on the issue of mental health, she said: “As a mental health person, if people want to say, ‘She’s on about that again,’ I don’t care because of the people it does help – I will do anything to help balance the fear-mongering. “The other day, it said, ‘Universities could become the care homes of the second wave,’ how dare they?” Those watching at home flocked to Twitter to comment on the debate, with many coming out in support of what the star had shared. One said: “Thank you, you are totally right, I work in a care home and we’ve said we will lose more residents from mental health due to lockdown than COVID! Plus I’m a high-risk pregnancy and have to go to appointments on my own, so no support at appointments.” Another shared: “Denise you are smashing it on @thismorning thank you so much.” “I couldn’t agree with what you are saying more. So much scaremongering it’s terrible!” commented a third. However, not everyone agreed with Denise, with one saying: “Please calm down. I know you’re passionate but I can’t listen to shouty people! It’s stressing me out. Calm comes across better.” Another added: “Why on earth is This Morning giving a platform to tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist Denise Welch? Who next? David Ike?” This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV. Dr Hilary Jones, 66, was on hand to present Good Morning Britain today alongside hosts Ben Shephard, 45, and Charlotte Hawkins, 44, giving his take on the unfolding coronavirus pandemic. The medical professional has become somewhat of a regular on the show since the world health crisis hit the UK and many ITV viewers have been encouraged by his advice. However, today he left them very distracted with his attire instead. Always smartly dressed, Dr Hilary was wearing a suit once again which consisted of a grey jacket and white shirt. The medical professional also thought he’d change things up a bit as he wore a patterned tie, with the image print completely innocent. As the graphics were so small, viewers could only make out the shape of a bunny rabbit and were left wondering what type of bunny it was. Those watching at home quickly took to Twitter, which led the presenter to address what they were actually seeing on his accessory piece. READ MORE: Dr Hilary Jones shuts down Piers Morgan over lockdown rules changing Taking to the social media platform, one distracted viewer wrote: “Can someone please tell me what the designs are on Dr H’s tie I think it might just be lockdown but they look rather rude.” Another added on the micro-blogging site: “Is that the Playboy bunny on Dr H’s tie?” The comments didn’t go unnoticed as almost two hours into today’s show, Ben addressed the commotion on Twitter. “[Some of you] have been getting in touch about Dr Hilary’s tie this morning. Someone was wondering whether it was a Playboy bunny,” the host said. Earlier on in the show, Dr Hilary addressed President Donald Trump’s, 73, the latest theories on how coronavirus could be treated. The leader of the free world stated in a recent press conference ultraviolet light and disinfectant injections might help stop COVID-19 from spreading. Of course, the medical professional debunked any idea these suggestions should be taken seriously as he voiced his concern over the comments on the show. He told Lorraine Kelly, 60, his reaction was one of shock when he listened to what the American leader was talking about. “Of course don’t do that at home. I mean, it’s a poison,” he opined. “And then ultraviolet light? This is because he thinks the sun emanates from an orifice in his body, obviously. “It’s just ridiculous. It would be funny if it weren’t quite so serious,” the medical professional added. At the top of the show today, Dr Hilary also slammed the ideas as “crazy” after President Trump explained how disinfectant and ultraviolet light could be used as a treatment. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. With it, Madeley branded Mr Corbyn and his Chancellor McDonnell as Marxists and wanted to know how their anti-capitalist stance would work for the economy should they win a general election. Richard Madeley was on top form this morning as he relaxed back into his former presenting position on ITV’s magazine show This Morning. Alongside his wife Judy Finnigan, they interviewed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. But midway through, Madeley had a burning question. “Can I ask you a question? Because this is the first time we’ve met, I’ve been wanting to ask you – on the assumption I’d interview you one day – here it is!” Madeley began. “You don’t do many interviews if I’m honest and I’m not on as much as I was. “But anyway, here it is, your Shadow Chancellor says in Who’s Who, that his hobby is ‘fomenting the downfall of capitalism’. “He spells ‘fomenting’ wrong by the way but we’ll let that pass, he spells it like the beer, exactly,” the presenter continued. READ MORE: ITV This Morning: Judy Finnigan leaves fans fuming “That’s what he says, and he is to all intents and purposes, as are you, a marxist which is an anti-capitalist stance. “How would it work, if you did win the election, to have a chancellor in Number 11 who is dedicated to the downfall of capitalism. A Chancellor who doesn’t believe in capitalism! “How on earth would that work?” Madeley reiterated. Mr Corbyn answered: “Well I think you’ve got a Chancellor who would be very good at managing the economy. It comes after the Labour Party’s would-be Chancellor, John McDonnell spoke seriously about overthrowing capitalism and building a socialist society. Asked about his entry in the Who’s Who directory of influential people which list his passion for “generally fermenting the overthrow of capitalism”, Mr McDonnell said it was a joke about beer-making, but he agrees with the principle. Elsewhere in the This Morning interview, Madeley asked why Mr Corbyn didn’t want a general election. “The thing is you see, what people watching this will be thing is ‘Jeremy Corbyn is actually frightened of an election’. “‘He’s frightened for two reasons, one because his person poll ratings,’ your personal poll ratings are awful. They’ve never been this bad. “And your party’s poll ratings are dreadful too. And if there was an election based on the poll at the moment you’d lose and the Tories would win,” Madeley slammed. Alongside this, many viewers were left “disappointed” with Finnigan’s response when Mr Corbyn made a swipe at Mr Johnson. This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV Yes, you heard that right. I cannot wait to hear some of her classics at an ‘ever-green’ Hyde Park as we all reminisce back to a time – when a true star was born!” With the potential for goals and assists, Suarez could be considered a steal at just £6.5million in FPL. Meanwhile, there is even better value to be found at St James’ Park after Newcastle shattered their club transfer record for Miguel Almiron. The Paraguayan will hopefully solve the Magpies’ attacking issues and will also be a big boost for those managers owning striker Salomon Rondon. Priced at just £6m, Almiron could be a huge differential in the second half of the campaign – but how much do other January arrivals cost in FPL? Still beaming after qualifying for her first Australian Open final, the 21-year-old let her guard down in a lighthearted press conference on Thursday evening — but she would come to regret her easygoing nature when one reporter suddenly turned on her.
Osaka is through to Saturday night’s final where she will face off with Czech power-hitter Petra Kvitova when the two stars will go head to head for the No. 1 ranking.
It was her incredible journey from inconsistent teenager to potentially Japan’s first ever man or woman to snatch the No. 1 honour that brought about her discomfort in her press conference.
Osaka mentioned briefly about how she felt for a long period after first emerging on the WTA Tour that she was unable to push through a ceiling to reach the second week of grand slam tournaments and to reach the late rounds of big tournaments.
She admitted she still has a chip on her shoulder about receiving questions at the time — as recent as 12 months ago — about her failure to push past the first three rounds in grand slams.
It was only at the 2018 Australian Open that she reached the last 16 at a major for the first time.
After more than two years of failing to crack the second week, she was simply sick of hearing about it in her post-match interviews.
It’s why one reporter’s wisecrack on Thursday brought her undone with a cheeky, wounded reaction.
She was asked if, even for incredible success at just 21 years of age, if it has felt like it has been a long road for her to establish herself, despite her grand slam success after a couple years on the WTA Tour not being “normal”.
“Man, for me it feels like it took a while,” she said.
“Like, I’ve always wanted to get to the second week. I only did that last year for the first time here. It definitely means a lot that I’ve gotten to the final here, of course.
“Definitely I remember all the matches that I lost in the third round. Especially since after you guys are so nice to me and you ask me, ‘How does it feel to always be stuck in the third round?’ Yeah, that definitely makes me feel a lot better.”
The bold reporter seized his moment and struck.
“How did it feel to be stuck in the third round,” he asked.
Osaka was mock-horrified.
“How could you,” she said as a huge grin began to break through her stern expression. “It felt great.
“I’ve been in the third round. I was stuck there for two years. As soon as I could break away from that, now I’m here again, I think it’s just experience and a confidence issue for me it’s always felt like.”
Her quick-witted response was just the latest in a series of hilarious moments where Osaka has sparred with the press.
After her quarter-final win on Wednesday she shut down her post-match, on-court interview with Channel 9.
“Sorry, I know it’s going to be tough no matter who I play, but I’m just trying to go inside because it’s a little bit hot right now,” a distracted Osaka said.
When asked if she wanted to end the interview she said: “Yeah, I’m sorry”.
She also got the crowd giggling on Rod Laver Arena after her tough win over Karolina Pliskova earlier on Thursday.
As she so often does, Osaka had the crowd in stitches with her on-court interview that discussed her second serves, thoughts on the roof being closed and her post-match routine.
“I was expecting a really hard battle. I told myself to regroup in the third set and no matter what just try as hard as I can, and I managed to win,” Osaka said.
“I was so scared on those second serves. I was like, ‘Oh God, please!’
“I like the heat so I was kind of sad about that (the roof being shut).
“They had the roof open (earlier) and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s my time to shine.’
“I’m gonna go to sleep. And then maybe after that I might walk but probably not to be honest.”
It’s not hard to see why she has quickly become one of the most popular players in tennis right now.
