A Bat-mystery has been solved.

Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries has shed some light on the decision to not recast the role of Kate Kane, in the wake of Ruby Rose abruptly parting ways with the CW series, but instead create “a whole new character” to slip into the cape and cowl for Season 2.

As recently reported, Batwoman has put out a casting call for a new character (possibly code-)named “Ryan Wilder,” who is described as “likeable,” “goofy,” and a “highly skilled [but] wildly undisciplined” fighter. She will, hopefully sooner rather than later once Season 2 arrives in early 2021, come to adopt the vigilante persona of Batwoman.

A June 3 TVLine op-ed called into question the change-up, given how it will likely render meaningless so much of what was established during Season 1. Now Dries, in an ATX Festival At Home Q&A with fellow CW showrunner Julie Plec (of Legacies), spoke about the decision for the first time since Season 1 ended.

“To be honest with you, I did consider the ‘soap opera version’ [of recasting] for a hot minute, because selfishly we already had a couple episodes written, and transition-wise it would be seamless,” she told Plec. “But upon further reflection — and I think [Arrowverse EP] Greg [Berlanti] helped me make this call — he’s like, ‘I think we should just reboot Batwoman as a different character.’”

In addition to paying “respect to everything that Ruby [Rose] put into the Kate Kane character” during Season 1, Dries said, “it also helps the audience, because we’re not asking them to address ‘the elephant in the room’” by accepting a new face as the same person.

Dries went on to affirm that “Ryan Wilder” is “a whole new character who in her past was inspired by Batwoman, so she is going to take on the mantle,” adding that the scrappy twentysomething who lives in a van, with her plant, “is maybe not the right person at the time to be doing it, so that’s what makes it fun.”

FIFA’s Head of Sustainability and Diversity Federico Addiechi has urged broadcasters to show less cutaways of beautiful women in the stands as part of efforts to tackle sexism in football.

The world football governing body wants to get a more respectful image of female fans attending games as issues of sexual harassment during the World Cup were raised at FIFA media briefing on Wednesday.

FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) network which works in close cooperation with FIFA and monitors fans behavior at World Cup games said it documented more than 30 cases of women being “accosted in the streets” during the month-long tournament in Russia.

Half of the reported incidents included female broadcasters being harassed while on air.

Addiechi said that FIFA will ask national broadcasters to stop zooming in on attractive women in stadiums to prevent potential ‘sexist’ incidents.

While racism was named Russia’s most problematic issue before the World Cup, no discriminative cases have been reported so far, said Piara Powar FARE executive director who praised the hosts of the tournament for giving a warm welcome to international guests.

“The Russian people played a magnificent role in making people feel welcome,” Powar said. “There were no issues to report on Russians inside stadiums. We hope that this World Cup will have a long-term impact on Russian society.”

“The Russian state together with the Russian Football Union did quite a lot of work in terms of ruling off individuals that there were concerns about. A number of individuals were denied their FAN IDs. All this combined led to quite a good tournament,” he added.

ICE to use thousands of license plate readers on ‘hot list’ targets https://briefnews.eu/ice-to-use-thousands-of-license-plate-readers-on-hot-list-targets/ https://briefnews.eu/ice-to-use-thousands-of-license-plate-readers-on-hot-list-targets/#respond Sat, 27 Jan 2018 01:52:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ice-to-use-thousands-of-license-plate-readers-on-hot-list-targets/ Federal immigration agents will soon have access to an automatic camera system that can locate and track vehicles in real time. Civil rights advocates worry the technology will be used against Americans.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will be able to track billions of license plates with the help of a third-party vendor that specializes in license plate reader (LPR) technology, according to a contract finalized earlier this month.

LPR is a system of high-speed cameras mounted on vehicles or stationary locations that automatically photograph license plates that come in the range of the devices. The system captures an image of the license plate and records the GPS location of the vehicle along with the date and time and other identifiable information.

“Like most other law enforcement agencies, ICE uses information obtained from license plate readers as one tool in support of its investigations,” ICE spokesman James Schwab said in a statement obtained by KPIX.

The contract does not specify the commercial vendor, but an ICE representative told The Verge that the data will come from Vigilant Solutions, a leading network for licence plate recognition data.

According to its website, Vigilant can offer ICE access to more than five billion license plate detections that are stored in their servers. The company claims it is adding 150 new detections each month.

The data Vigilant Solutions collects is automatically stored in its cloud, which allows other law enforcement agencies to share the data with any agency that also uses the system.

Once ICE begins using the system, an agent will be able to search the massive database and find every time the system captured a vehicle over the last five years. Or, an agent could upload certain license plate numbers to a “hot list,” which will send a real-time alert to agents with the location of any vehicle of interest that is picked up by the LPR system.

The agents will be able to search for a person of interest by entering their address, plate number, or the year, make, and model of their car. The system can even locate a vehicle that does not have a license plate, according to the Chicago Tribune.

According to a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) conducted by the Department of Homeland Security in 2015, the LPR can collect information from “all vehicles that pass the camera.”

Homeland Security said the information can be used to “determine the whereabouts of subjects of criminal investigations or priority aliens to facilitate their interdiction and removal.”

“In some cases, when other leads have gone cold, the availability of commercial LPR data may be the only viable way to find a subject,” the PIA states.

While the contract states that ICE is “neither seeking to build nor contribute to a national public or private LPR database,” civil rights advocates worry the technology will eventually be used to track Americans as well.

“There are people circulating in our society who are undocumented,” Jay Stanley, senior policy analyst with the American Civil Liberties Union, told The Verge. “Are we as a society, out of our desire to find those people, willing to let our government create an infrastructure that will track all of us?”

ICE states that it has implemented internal policies to ensure the system is not used in violation of privacy rights. The agency will only be able to use LPR data in support of a criminal investigation or to locate a priority alien, according to their PIA. Agents will also be required to validate every person on the “hot list” after a year and update the list when a case is resolved.

However, Sanders worries that the size and scope of the LPR system would have never been approved by Congress if it had been created by the agency instead of a private corporation.

“If ICE were to propose a system that would do what Vigilant does, there would be a huge privacy uproar and I don’t think Congress would approve it,” Stanley says. “But because it’s a private contract, they can sidestep that process.”

Republican party is ‘toast’ says Az. senator in ‘hot mic’ moment https://briefnews.eu/republican-party-is-toast-says-az-senator-in-hot-mic-moment/ https://briefnews.eu/republican-party-is-toast-says-az-senator-in-hot-mic-moment/#respond Sun, 19 Nov 2017 10:37:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/republican-party-is-toast-says-az-senator-in-hot-mic-moment/

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake may invite the ire of President Donald Trump after he was caught in a hot mic moment, saying the Republican party is “toast” as it’s become the party of Trump and Roy Moore.

Flake was speaking to Republican Mayor of Mesa, Arizona John Giles, after a tax reform event on Friday night when KNXV captured their conversation, thanks to Flake’s lapel microphone which was still on.

KNXV’s camera started rolling when Flake was mid-sentence. He can be heard telling Giles: “…become the party of Roy Moore and Donald Trump, we are toast,” KNXV reports.

Flake’s office later told the network he was saying, “If we become the party…” before the cameras started rolling, but this can’t be verified.

Flake tweeted about the hot mic moment on Saturday, seemingly unfazed about what he said. “No news here. I’ve been saying this to anyone who will listen,” Flake’s tweet reads.

Flake has been an outspoken critic of the president. In October, he announced he would not seek re-election because of “the current Republican climate,” and referred to “reckless outrageous and undignified behavior.”

Giles was also caught appearing to call Trump an idiot. “I am not throwing smoke at you, but you are the guy — just for fun, think about how much fun it would be — just to be the foil, you know, and point out what an idiot this guy is,” Giles said, apparently referring to Trump.

Giles’ office released a statement when contacted by the network, which only addressed the Moore controversy. “As a life-long conservative Republican, I am troubled when candidates like Roy Moore send the wrong message about my party’s ethics and policies,” he said. “We need more people like Jeff Flake in the US Senate, not Roy Moore.”

Moore is running for a seat in the US Senate, and has been accused of preying on multiple teenagers, so many that he was reportedly banned from a shopping mall when he was in his 30s.

His alleged harassment and assault has caused a divide among Republicans, with some calling for him to drop out of the race. Others, including the president, have remained silent on Moore, who denies the allegations.

It rains sunscreen on this ‘hot Jupiter’ exoplanet https://briefnews.eu/it-rains-sunscreen-on-this-hot-jupiter-exoplanet/ https://briefnews.eu/it-rains-sunscreen-on-this-hot-jupiter-exoplanet/#respond Wed, 01 Nov 2017 22:41:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/it-rains-sunscreen-on-this-hot-jupiter-exoplanet/

Anyone who can conjure up a way to collect resources from Kepler-13Ab in the far future could become a sunscreen magnate. On the heavenly body, one of the hottest Jupiter-sized exoplanets the mission has ever discovered, titanium oxide falls from the skies. The planet is so close to its host star that, like our moon, one side permanently faces Kepler-13A while the other is permanently in darkness. This titanium oxide “snowfall” takes place on the dark side, because winds tend to carry it to colder areas.

On the dark side, the mineral that’s closely related to the active ingredient in physical sunscreens condenses into crystalline flakes and forms clouds. Those clouds don’t stay clouds for long, though: since Kepler-13Ab’s gravity is six times more intense than Jupiter’s, it’s strong enough to pull the mineral out of the upper atmosphere.

The team led by Thomas Beatty from Pennsylvania State University chose to study Kepler-13Ab, since its 5,000-degree-Fahrenheit daytime temps make it easier to observe than colder hot Jupiters. They used Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Camera 3 to get a closer look at Kepler-13Ab’s atmosphere in near-infrared and found that it’s colder in the planet’s regions with higher altitudes. That’s pretty unusual, as it’s typically hotter in the higher regions of hot Jupiters. Titanium oxide lurks in their atmospheres in gaseous form, you see, absorbing light and radiating it as heat.

The colder temps provided the team the clue they needed to confirm that it rains sunscreen in extremely hot massive planets with incredibly strong surface gravity. Now, the scientists believe that this kind of precipitation actually occurs in most hot Jupiters — most just don’t have gravity that can compare to Kepler-13Ab’s, so their “sunscreen snow” doesn’t fall far enough and quickly turns back into gas.

More MondoCon Posters Revealed: ‘Goodfellas,’ ‘Justice League,’ ‘Hot Fuzz,’ and More https://briefnews.eu/more-mondocon-posters-revealed-goodfellas-justice-league-hot-fuzz-and-more/ https://briefnews.eu/more-mondocon-posters-revealed-goodfellas-justice-league-hot-fuzz-and-more/#respond Tue, 31 Oct 2017 22:35:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/more-mondocon-posters-revealed-goodfellas-justice-league-hot-fuzz-and-more/ mondocon goodfellas

Last week, we were pleased to debut a few posters that will be for sale at this year’s MondoCon, Mondo’s annual convention dedicated to pop culture art and collectibles. Now, more posters, pins, and soundtracks have been unveiled ahead of the con’s start this weekend, including art and more for Goodfellas, Justice League, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Samurai Jack, Hot Fuzz, Ratatouille, and Predator. Check them all out below!

This first batch of posters were unveiled over at Collider and you couldn’t find a more disparate group of movies. First up is Tom Whalen’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and it’s everything you’d want from a Tom Whalen Disney poster (he’s done enough of them that I’ve lost count): it’s colorful and vibrant and cute. Rarely has there been a more perfect marriage of artist and studio. Next to it is Justice League by Lee Bermejo and it’s awfully slick, depicting the cast of the upcoming movie in a dynamic pose. I’m familiar with Bermejo’s comic book work, so I already knew he could draw the hell out of superheroes. This poster further confirms it. However, my favorite of the bunch is Marc Aspinall’s Goodfellas, which takes an ugly moment from Martin Scorsese’s crime classic and presents it in all of its stark, grisly glory.

For more information on each poster (including pricing), make sure you click the link above.

The next batch was revealed on Birth Movies Death. There’s a slick Samurai Jack (and a colored variant) by Methane Studios and a very fun Predator pin, but my heart is won by Rich Kelly’s Hot Fuzz. Kelly’s exaggerated, cartoonish style is a perfect match for Edgar Wright’s outsized filmmaking: bombastic, broad, and gleeful in how it distorts the familiar.

Click that link if you want to know more.

And finally, Film School Rejects has a first look at the new Ratatouille soundtrack on vinyl with cover art by Nicole Gustafsson. I’m not a big vinyl collector, but the art here is gorgeous and worthy of being framed on its own.

MondoCon begins this weekend in Austin, Texas and we’ll be in attendance to bring you everything you need to know and see. For a taste of what to expect, make sure you check out our coverage of last year’s convention (including our favorite posters of the con) and our recap of the Mondo Live panel, where three artists teamed up to design a poster live on stage in one hour.

A US-China trade war would send ‘hot commodities’ through the roof https://briefnews.eu/a-us-china-trade-war-would-send-hot-commodities-through-the-roof/ https://briefnews.eu/a-us-china-trade-war-would-send-hot-commodities-through-the-roof/#respond Wed, 06 Sep 2017 01:10:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-us-china-trade-war-would-send-hot-commodities-through-the-roof/ Trump XiReuters/Carlos Barria

Headlines like this one from the Financial Times a few weeks ago tend to focus the attention…

It reads, “Trump set to launch first major trade action targeted at China.”

This was the first shot in what will likely be trade war with the world’s second-largest economy – which also happens to be a crucial party to de-escalating tensions with North Korea.

Getting into a trade tussle with China is a Trump campaign promise that’s relatively easy to keep, as it doesn’t require the cooperation of anyone else in the U.S. government.

It also caters to the sentiments of the 34 percent of Americans who approve of the U.S. president’s job performance. And it’s over an issue where the U.S. actually has a legitimate gripe, no less. The Financial Times explains…

“Donald Trump is set to launch his first major trade action targeted at China… by ordering his top trade negotiator to begin an investigation into intellectual property rules that Beijing uses to force foreign investors to turn over valuable technologies.”

And (also says the FT), “The step could lead to US tariffs and other restrictions on Chinese imports within a year in what many see as the potential first step towards a trade war between the world’s two largest economies.”

The measure came a few weeks after negotiations over a Chinese proposal to cut steel production overcapacity were rejected by President Trump, over the counsel of his advisors – because he preferred to impose tariffs on Chinese steel.

The timing of the launch of a trade war with China could hardly be worse, as the war of words with North Korea threatens to become a real war. Still, cracking down on intellectual property violations by China is less bad than imposing a 45 percent tariff on all Chinese imports, which was a Trump election campaign promise.

What (could happen) next?

Of course, a reasoned and even-keeled effort to curb Chinese infractions over intellectual property could quickly escalate into a midnight Twitter offensive by the U.S. president. Restraint has not been a hallmark of President Trump so far. So a rapid escalation into a full-scale trade war with China is eminently possible. But what happens then?

One thing is clear: China’s government will fight back. China knows how to exploit the advantages it has over its adversaries. In this case, China has a real advantage in what I’ll call for now “hot commodities”.

Most people aren’t familiar with these small but essential ingredients to modern civilisation. Without these “hot commodities” Samsung couldn’t make TVs, Toyota would have to close its Prius factories, and Canon would shut down camera production. U.S. military contractors couldn’t produce missiles, night-vision goggles or satellites without them, either. Without “hot commodities” your smartphone speakers wouldn’t work properly – and its screen wouldn’t be as sharp.

And the key player in this “hot commodity” market is China. It controls a whopping 90 percent of the world’s “hot commodities” production. And it also controls the export of “hot commodities”.

A trade war – or even just the scent of a trade war – between China and the U.S. could push the price of these commodities through the roof. That’s because it would be easy for China to restrict the export of these key commodities to the manufacturers in the U.S. (or anywhere else) that need them.

History might not repeat – but it can rhyme

What’s more, we’ve seen this happen before.

In the spring of 2010, tensions between China and Japan escalated when China asserted control over uninhabited islands in the South China Sea also claimed by Japan. In September of that year, after a Chinese fishing boat captain allegedly rammed a Japanese patrol boat, Japan arrested and detained the captain. China responded with an economic left hook: It stopped the export of “hot commodities” to Japan.

China was essentially Japan’s only source of “hot commodities”, which were (and are) vital to Japan’s huge automotive and lighting industries.

The market responded with panic.

The price of one “hot commodity” – which is used for hybrid vehicles, among other devices – moved up 1,000 percent in ten months. Another one, which is vital for iPhones as well as for wind turbines and night-vision goggles, jumped nearly 700 percent in 15 months.

So, it’s not a big leap to think that if President Trump digs in deeper to launch a trade war against China – as he’s repeatedly promised to do – China might respond by punishing the U.S. the same way it punished Japan: By restricting “hot commodity” exports. If that happens, prices could surge as they did in 2010-2011.

The best way to invest

Since then, though, many “hot commodity” stocks suffered a near-death experience when the bottom fell out of the market. Many once-hot stocks in the sector collapsed 95 percent – or went to zero – as prices for “hot commodities” came back to earth. The dot-com bust was like fairies in a rose garden compared to the “hot commodities” meltdown.

But demand hasn’t gone away for these essential ingredients to modern civilisation – in fact, just the opposite. And China remains the first, largest and by far the most important supplier of them. At some point, the price of these elements is going to rise sharply.

In December, we recommended to subscribers of The Churchouse Letter a way to invest in “hot commodities”. The share price of our recommendation is up 39 percent since then. But I think this is just the beginning. “Hot commodities” have a lot further to go.

To be fair to subscribers to The Churchouse Letter, I can’t share anything more about this stock here. But you can learn more about “hot commodities” – and the best way to invest in them – in a special report that we just released. You can learn more about it here.

Good investing,

A Wall Street analyst’s ‘hot mic’ upstaged Snapchat’s CEO and stole the show (SNAP) https://briefnews.eu/a-wall-street-analysts-hot-mic-upstaged-snapchats-ceo-and-stole-the-show-snap/ https://briefnews.eu/a-wall-street-analysts-hot-mic-upstaged-snapchats-ceo-and-stole-the-show-snap/#respond Fri, 11 Aug 2017 04:27:38 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-wall-street-analysts-hot-mic-upstaged-snapchats-ceo-and-stole-the-show-snap/ Evan SpiegelMichael Kovac/Getty Images for Vanity Fair

A Wall Street analyst upstaged Snap CEO Evan Spiegel on the company’s Q2 conference call thanks to a classic “hot mic” snafu.

It happened towards the end of Snap’s 60-minute call on Thursday, lending a comedic, and perhaps fitting, finish to the discussion about the business’ underwhelming performance.

Spiegel and Snap exec Imran Khan lambasted “growth hacking” by certain unnamed competitors, a thinly veiled accusation at the phone notifications and other techniques that Facebook, Twitter, and others serve up to lure users back to their apps.

Enter Rich Greenfield, an analyst for BTIG, who pointed out on the call that Snap also sends such phone notifications to users. Why is what Snap does any different than what it accuses competitors of doing?

The answer, Snap CEO Spiegel explained, was that certain companies have “relaxed their standards,” Snap’s content is “relevant,” and anyone looking for examples of the most egregious growth hacking should just “go for a Google.”

As far as conference call non-answers go, it was pretty standard fare.

Unfortunately, when Greenfield’s colleague Brandon Ross erupted into laughter, and exclaimed that “I didn’t even understand his response,” the phone had not yet been disconnected from the conference call creating an awkward moment for the Snap executives, other analysts and all the press and investors that were tuned in.

Not surprisingly, the gaffe was quickly discussed on Twitter:

Even Greenfield had a laugh, using, what else, but Snapchat Bitmoji:

Comic relief

Hot mics offer a cherished moment of levity in the quarterly routine of stilted earnings-call dialogue. In July, listeners to Google-parent company Alphabet’s earnings call were treated to another gem when an analyst was heard mumbling something after company executives sidestepped his question.

Asked if he had any regrets about his colleague’s hot mic, Greenfield said “it was certainly not intended to be heard on the call.”

Snap had already introduced the next analyst in the queue for the question-and-answer session, he told Business Insider in an email, by way of explanation for the inopportune remarks.

But the hot-mic comments reflect a broader confusion about Snapchat’s “growth hacking” philosophy, Greenfied insists.

“Based on investor feedback, it is clear that nobody understands what other social networks are doing differently than Snapchat that would drive Evan to label other’s actions ‘growth hacking’ distinct from what Snapchat is doing,” Greenfield said.

You can listen to the key moment of the Snap call here:

Justin Lin Will Make an Indie Movie Before ‘Space Jam 2’ and ‘Hot Wheels’ https://briefnews.eu/justin-lin-will-make-an-indie-movie-before-space-jam-2-and-hot-wheels/ https://briefnews.eu/justin-lin-will-make-an-indie-movie-before-space-jam-2-and-hot-wheels/#respond Tue, 01 Aug 2017 19:11:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/justin-lin-will-make-an-indie-movie-before-space-jam-2-and-hot-wheels/ space jam 2

Justin Lin was on a Television Critics Association panel for the new CBS reboot of S.W.A.T., for which he directed the pilot. Afterwards, he spoke with reporters about his feature film projects. He said he will shoot an indie movie in the Spring, and that the studios responsible for the tentpole movies Space Jam 2 and Hot Wheels are giving both projects the time they need.

“On both Space Jam and Hot Wheels, I have great partners,” Lin said. “A lot of times now with these big tentpoles, everybody’s trying to jam a movie in in a limited time. I feel like I’m too old for that. I want to make sure that we do everything right, so those two projects, with Legendary [on Hot Wheels] and Warner Bros. [on Space Jam 2] they’ve been great about saying, ‘What do you need, how much time do you need? Let’s keep getting it right.’”

That said, Warners does want a Space Jam 2 as soon as possible. “Warner Brothers has  been great,” Lin said. “I feel like it’s been very precious. Everybody at the studio’s been calling, ‘Let’s go, let’s go’ and I’m like [it’s] not right yet. To me, the challenge is we have actors who are also professional athletes, so schedule is something that is tough. I’ve been really wanting to push that genre, but to do that you need the right amount of time. So there’s a logistical challenge but also creatively, to do a sequel 20 years later with a new cast and also to be able to, in a relevant way, bring the Looney Tunes back. That’s very important to me to do it right. I feel I’ve done nine different iterations already and we’re going to keep going, but we’re getting closer every day.”

Lebron James is set to lead the Looney Tunes basketball team in a new Space Jam. A big question remains which comic actor can fill the Bill Murray role. Lin says there are many takers. “There’s one thing that I’ve learned,” Lin said. “There are so many sports and Space Jam fans. I run into them and everybody’s volunteering to be in the movie so I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. I feel like the studio’s been great because I ask for a playground and the time to really explore and that’s what we’ve been doing this whole time.

James is also a current player, so he has to play every NBA season. “It’s a different challenge because he’s a professional basketball player,” Lin said. “He’s not retired. When the first one happened, it was during a strike and Michael Jordan was retired. From what I’ve learned in film, you have to be passionate and when you’re ready, you’ll make it happen.”

Lin also spoke a bit about what attracted him to Hot Wheels. “For me, Fast and Furious is not just a car movie either,” Lin said. “I have an eight-year-old who plays with Hot Wheels all the time. To me, it’s amazing [to see] the therapeutic and healing properties of imagination. Those are themes I really want to explore through that because I had my own relationship with Hot Wheels when I was a kid and now I’m seeing it with my kid, so it is something I’m very excited about.”

Before Matt Damon returned to play Jason Bourne, Lin was attached to a sequel to Jeremy Renner’s The Bourne Legacy. While most assume the Aaron Cross franchise is moot, Lin said he still wants to work with Renner.

“I talk to Jeremy all the time and technically, it’s still in development,” Lin said. “I’m one of his biggest fans and I signed on because we’ve been looking for stuff to work together and we still look for stuff to work together. It was just an opportunity at that time. It was actually getting to be really exciting but I also realized that’s a whole other franchise universe. My connection to it is Jeremy and we’re finding great things to hopefully work together. We’re in touch. I love Jeremy.”

Having directed four entries in the Fast and the Furious franchise, Lin has directed more of the series than any other director. With two more sequels on the slate, Lin said he is not considering a return.

“Look, we’re family,” Lin said. “I left because I had done four movies and I felt like for me, my criteria to keep making movies wasn’t there. I keep in touch with everybody, the studio, Vin, everybody. Whether I like it or not, it’s part of me, but I’m proud. That’s my family and we’re always talking. We’ll see what happens.”

One thing Lin still wants Fast fans to know is that the correct title of his final movie was Furious 6. Despite posters and TV spots saying The Fast and the Furious 6, the title on screen is Furious 6.

“Exactly, it’s Furious 6,” Lin said. “I was Fast Five and Furious 6. It was one of those things with the studio. They ended up calling it Furious 6.”

S.W.A.T. premieres November 2 on CBS.

San Diego Comic-Con kicks off tomorrow with the traditional preview night, letting thousands roam the show floor in search of the exclusives that they’re desperate to get their hands on. You can bet the line will be long over at the Mondo booth, where the pop culture collectible house always unleashes a slew of items that you can only get at the convention (some of which we’ve already exclusively revealed), and a handful of new ones were just revealed today.

If you head over to the Mondo booth during San Diego Comic-Con, there will be new prints commemorating Hot Fuzz, Guardians of the Galaxy, Legion, and more. There’s also a very special limited edition vinyl release for one of those movies that will sell out insanely fast, I’m sure. Check out the new Mondo SDCC 2017 exclusives below.

First up, here’s a new Hot Fuzz print by Jock, just in time for the movie’s 10th anniversary:

Hot Fuzz - Jock

There will be a version of this print at Comic-Con and another one that will go on sale at some point on Mondo’s website, though a time was not given by Entertainment Weekly, who debuted the new print. It’s in the same style as Jock’s Shaun of the Dead print that was released a few years ago, so if you have one of those and you love Edgar Wright, then this purchase feels like a no-brainer.

Or if you like Jock’s work but want to spend a little less money, you can try to snag this Hot Fuzz vinyl:

As you can see, the vinyl release uses Jock’s artwork for the album cover, and the vinyl disc itself is a 180-gram chocolate Cornetto swirl, to go along with that strawberry Cornetto swirl that was released for Shaun of the Dead. Apparently it even smells like chocolate, too. The good news is that will only cost you $ 25, but the bad news is there will only be 1,000 copies available, so you’ll have to get in line fast.

There will also be this incredibly colorful print for Guardians of the Galaxy from the amazing Matt Taylor:

We don’t know the edition size of this release yet, or how much it costs, but you’ll find out eventually if you stay tuned to Mondo’s continuously updated page of their SDCC 2017 exclusives over here. Any remaining copies after the convention will be sold on the Mondo website.

Finally, Marc Aspinall created this trippy print for FX’s X-Men-inspired series Legion:

Again, we don’t know how many copies of this one will be available at the Mondo booth, but any remaining copies will go on sale at Mondo sometime after the convention. Or if you don’t want to brave the Mondo line, you can also get a different version of the poster at the 20th Century Fox booth by pre-ordering the first season on Blu-ray or DVD.

You can see some more of the exclusives revealed by Entertainment Weekly, including a Preacher print and a couple Batman: The Animated Series collectibles, right here.
