The Queensland Government is expected to announce its official support for the fight which involves a cash injection of about $ 1.5 million into the promotion.
Last year Anastasia Palaszczuk’s Government and Brisbane City Council together poured about $ 5 million into backing Horn’s victory over Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp but claim they recouped that money many times over with the huge boost to Queensland tourism generated by the crowd of more than 51,000 and a television audience in the hundreds of millions.
This time they are banking on thousands of interstate visitors to Brisbane for what is being billed as the biggest all-Australian fight of all time.
Negotiations are underway to make the long-awaited heavyweight battle between Lucas Browne and Alex Leapai the main undercard fight.
Mundine-Horn is set to be fought at 71kg and while Horn’s promoter Dean Lonergan says the weight limit will “kill” Mundine before he even gets in the ring, Mundine is planning the best preparation of his career.
Faced with a million-dollar penalty if he is more than 2kg above the limit, he has hired South Sydney’s nutritional expert Ryan Pinto to assess every gram of food that he eats between now and fight time.
While Lonergan says a huge proportion of the crowd will be on hand to see Horn knock out Mundine, the Sydney boxer’s camp fully expect their man to spoil the party.
“Anthony has never had a training camp like this in his life,” said Mundine’s representative Emaid Dib.
“He really is Jeff’s worst nightmare. He’s fast, crafty and he can punch and he will be a lot physically bigger than Jeff. We know Jeff has trouble with fighters who can move well.
“Ryan Pinto is a top sports scientist who works with the Rabbitohs, the Waratahs rugby team and NSW cricket and he will make sure Anthony is super strong and super fit at 71kg.
“Anthony has been at the top of boxing for 18 years and he sees this as his big chance to shock the world in a huge stadium fight against a boxer who beat a legend last year.
“We’re very confident that making the weight will not be an issue for Anthony.”
Mundine has spent most of his boxing career fighting at 76kg but he has had seven fights at 71kg or lighter for five wins including a stoppage against Shane Mosley, the only time the great American failed to go the distance.
In two of his last three fights at the lighter weight, though, Mundine was badly mauled at 71kg by American contender Charles Hatley and Ghana’s former world welterweight champ Joshua Clottey.
Mundine says his preparation for this fight will be much more scientific and he is planning a fast start against Horn.
“I want to stop Horn in the first six rounds,’’ Mundine said.
“He’s a good strong kid but I know I have the quickness and the skills to beat him.”
Australia’s most successful fighter Jeff Fenech has warned Horn to beware of Mundine’s power.
“Anthony says he is going to have the very best preparation ever,” Fenech said.
“I know that Anthony will really be fired up for the fight. It’s his big chance to score a win over a huge name and leave boxing with a victory that fight fans will remember forever.’’

Corcoran, a man with nothing to lose and with no restraints, presents a huge danger for Horn in their WBO welterweight title fight at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
Horn has an overwhelming fear of being constrained in tight places and Corcoran has promised to suffocate him for 12 rounds in wild close-quarters combat.
While Horn is now making million-dollar purses, the London gypsy lives in a caravan and has been fighting and surviving big hits all his life from the time he was 18 months old and got hit by a van when playing on the street.
He still has a prominent surgical scar across his stomach as a reminder. Last year he narrowly avoided being caught up in a gangland hit when six masked killers burst into a fight weigh-in at a Dublin hotel and shot an Irish crime lord.
Corcoran, 27, thrives in a tough and dangerous world.
He has eight brothers who have all been champion boxers and he has been punching people since he could walk. He was suspended from school 19 times for kicking, punching and headbutting and says he can’t wait to take revenge on the Fighting Schoolteacher.
When he was very young Corcoran’s boxing coach called him “Hellraiser’’. He takes it as a compliment amid a huge rambunctious family of 12 children and a tribute to the fact that he admits he was a “bit of a lunatic’’ growing up.
That unpredictability of the wiry challenger gives Horn private cause for concern despite his public show of confidence. After all, the fear of the dark unknown has gripped him all his life.
“For some reason at an early age I developed claustrophobia, which still plagues me,’’ Horn said.
“If you combine darkness with a narrow space I can go to pieces.
“On chilly nights when I was a kid, my dad would wrap my brother Ben and me in blankets and I would freak out. I hated being tightly constrained and I still do. Being trapped in a small dark place is a fear that haunts my worst nightmares. I have a constant dread of getting stuck in an elevator and not being able to see where I am. Even on kids’ rides in tight, dark places I can feel myself starting to get panicky.’’
Corcoran is banking on Horn getting panicky as he is assailed from all angles and confined in the small space where he plans to trap him inside the boxing ring.
The gypsy wild man is still “a bit of a lunatic’’ in his fighting style, wild and erratic, with constant pressure, constant aggression and a constant stream of punches.
He has accused Horn of headbutting and his line about being willing to bite in retaliation was only half in jest.
“I’ve been fighting my whole life,’’ Corcoran says.
“Jeff has never fought anyone like me.
“I’m bigger, younger, fresher and I’ve fought bigger people than he has. I know I’m physically stronger too and you will see that on the night.
“He’s already talking about fighting Terence Crawford next. I’m not thinking about fighting anyone else. Just him. I’ve trained for 12 hard rounds to be his worst nightmare.’’
Scientists have discovered that while monstrous dinosaurs roamed the earth, the insect world contained its own fearsome creature – a ‘hell ant’ with a reinforced metal horn on its head.
A number of extinct insects have been given the sinister ‘hell ant’ moniker – including the Haidomyrmex cerberus, which had curious L-shaped mandibles.
READ MORE: Botanic Park: Scientists find dinosaur-era plant in North American lakes
But researchers from the New Jersey Institute of Technology have revealed a new hair-raising creature found inside amber, dating back 99 million years.
According to the study, the hell ant, known as Linguamyrmex vladi, hunted and defended itself in ways which differ dramatically from modern ants.
The insect, which turned up in amber mined in Myanmar, displayed rather terrifying ‘weaponry’ around its head.
This included a clypeal horn, or paddle, probably reinforced by metals such as calcium, zinc and iron, usually held in the bodies of insects.
It’s thought the fortified horn was used together with scythe-like mandibles to “pin and potentially puncture soft-bodied prey.”
Dr Phillip Barden, lead author of the study, told RT.com that the reinforcement of the horn would have stopped it from being damaged as the ant’s fast-snapping jaws slammed closed.
“The paddle-horn does appear to contain either increased density or metal reinforcement, as suggested by X-ray imaging,” he said.
“As the mandibles would snap closed to capture prey, the reinforcement would prevent the scythe-like mandibles from damaging the paddle-like horn.”
The ferocious looking ant is likely to have died out during the Late Cretaceous and Paleocene period (K-Pg period).
“The exact cause of their extinction is unknown, however it is interesting to note that hell ants are known from three fossil deposits worldwide – Myanmar, France and Canada, ranging in age from 99 to about 78 million years ago,” Barden added.
“While these ants most probably went extinct sometime around the K–Pg boundary, along with non-avian dinosaurs, 65 millions years ago, they nevertheless appear to have been widely distributed and existed for at least 20 million years or so.”

Champion boxer Jeff Horn sits down with The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio to preview the upcoming Mayweather v McGregor fight

FLOYD Mayweather’s camp has a massive amount of respect for Australia’s Jeff Horn but have ruled out any chance of the pair fighting.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told the Daily Telegraph that Sunday’s Fight of the Century will be definitely be the last for his undefeated champion who is coming out of a two-year retirement to fight UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
“Nothing against Jeff Horn but Floyd is just done,” Ellerbe said.
“He’s not looking to accomplish anything after this. He’s beaten everyone in his era in a remarkable career. He’s ready to move on to the next stage of his life with his business interests.
“Jeff can call him out all he wants but Floyd Mayweather is done. This is it.”

Ellerbe revealed he watched Horn beat Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane not once but three times.
And unlike most Americans who were influenced by the one-sided commentary of ESPN analyst Teddy Atlas, he thought Horn won.
“I’d like to congratulate Jeff Horn on his great victory against an all-time great of boxing,” Ellerbe said, “I watched the fight three times.
“I definitely thought he won. He was very aggressive and it was a fantastic performance.
“If they do the fight again I expect him to win again. He definitely stepped up on the big platform.
“He’s a very physical fighter and the sky’s the limit. And Floyd was very happy for the kid.”

JEFF Horn has reacted to confirmation from the WBO that he was a rightful world title winner over legend Manny Pacquiao – and he’s whacked his biggest critic.
The WBO on Tuesday (AEST) released a statement and detailed analysis of the Horn vs Pacquaio welterweight title bout in Brisbane, seen as a controversial victory for the Aussie.
While Horn was named a unanimous winner, critics such as ESPN colour commentator Atlas were ropeable, going to far as to say that the decision was corrupt.
Speaking to FOX Sports News 500 before flying to the US to attend the ESPY Awards, Horn said he was disappointed in the response to his win and whacked Atlas in particular.
“I won’t have too much time (in the US) for the ones that kinda brushed me and said that they definitely thought I lost the fight,” Horn said (watch below).
“Especially straight after the fight, when Teddy has said to me, ‘Ah, you lost that fight. That’s what I think.’
“When I was on my high as well, so he’s bringing me down straight away.”

Boxing: Jeff Horn has welcomed a World Boxing Organisation review that has concluded he was the true winner of his welter-weight title fight against Manny Pacquiao
Horn said he was always convinced that he had defeated Filipino icon Pacquiao but was happy to get confirmation, which came from an independent panel of five new judges who watched the bout without sound.

“It was a big relief, and I’m going to the US now, so it’s nice knowing that when I go over there that I’ve got the judges re-scoring it … and they’ve got me winning again,” he said.
“To win the fight, and to think that I’ve won the fight and then gor everyone to go after you and say, ‘You didn’t win the fight’ … it’s frustrating but then to have this finally makes it a bit easier to go over to the US.”
Horn and Pacquiao are set to have a rematch later this year in Brisbane.

Boxing: Jeff Horn has pulled off one of the greatest upsets in boxing, defeating legend Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision in a wild Battle of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium.

FOR some months now Jeff Horn has been opening his kitchen pantry, looking up, and thinking “one day I’m going to destroy you.’’
It wasn’t a photo of Manny Pacquiao. It was a block of chocolate he refused to eat.
A renowned sweet-tooth, he was desperate to crack it open but decided the only chocolate treat he deserved in the build up to his life’s defining moment was a tiny sprinkle on the top of his cappuccino.
“You have to make big sacrifices because you just never know when you are going to need absolutely everything you’ve got,’’ he said.
Like round 12 at Suncorp Stadium yesterday when his face was cut and bloated and his legs took on a drunken sailor wobble, yet somehow he held on to create one of the greatest Australian sports stories of all time.

The Horn story truly is that good. Instantly it ranks near the top of that downright freakish and precious list of achievements that should never have happened but somehow did.
Australia II winning the America’s Cup, Evonne Goolagong becoming the first and only indigenous Australian to win Wimbledon and one-time scrawny schoolboy Cadel Evans winning the Tour de France.
It’s that special. If he was American they’d make a movie about it. A victory so stunning security staff had to usher some fans out of their seats an hour after the fight because they just wanted to sit there and contemplate what they had seen.

Boxing: ESPN Commentator Teddy Atlas reacts with fury to the Jeff Horn point decision over Manny Pacquiao
Move over Rocky Balboa – Jeff Horn’s story is better than yours because it’s true.
What odds would you have given Horn beating one of the greatest boxers of all time when he was once a tearful wreck being bullied himself at high school. A thousand to one?
He’s done it all by being himself. No big time swagger. Not a tattoo in sight. A clean skin in every way.
Out of the ring he has the innocent, almost boyish demeanour of the young schoolteacher he once was, not the warrior he has become.
Horn’s win was the talk of the huge US sport chat shows last night, with many pundits claiming he should not have got the decision.
One called it a kangaroo court. Respected scribe and opinion-setter Stephen A Smith said: “It’s garbage … What did we just see? This is a horrible decision. Horrible.’’
Bring on the rematch.

Boxing: Jeff Horn stunned the world by defeating Manny Pacquiao and he did so after weathering some of the Filipino legend’s finest work in the 9th round.
The controversy reminded me of the lunchtime interview I did with Horn a month ago. I asked him to imagine the fight was over and he had a shock victory. What did he think would be his key to victory?
Prophetically, he said: “Everyone who loses to me feels unlucky. I’m underestimated. I like that. Opponents find me awkward. I never had a boxing hero so my style is my own. Everyone always wants to fight me because they think they can beat me.’’
When Horn was asked yesterday how he had won, at first he said: “I don’t know.’’ But deep down he did.
He worked like a dog and concentrated on a game plan which included keeping Pacquiao slightly out of his range, making the best use of his 2cm reach advantage, which looked longer. It was a fabulous contest that confused us all.

When Pacquiao covered up and let Horn swing like a windmill in the early rounds we thought we were watching a re-run of the famous Muhammad Ali rope-a-dope routine which would see the champion come to life late against a foe falling to Earth like a burnt out firework.
There was the occasional thunderclap, as in the ninth round when Horn wobbled and buckled and looked a decent right hook away from a Sunday afternoon kip – but the tornado never quite hit town despite the ring being blood-splattered and Horn ending the fight looking five years older than when he started.
So victory went to the kid who, four years ago, had his first professional fight at a wedding centre in Victoria. The same one who a few years before that showed up to the Queensland amateur titles a bit hungry and, when everyone else was having their special energy meals, he got a packet of Twisties out of the vending machine.
The win has cast events before the fight in a different light.

When Pacquiao was nonchalantly texting at the press conference before the fight, Horn felt, on one hand offended, but on the other encouraged he was being viewed as easy road kill.
“He wouldn’t text like that if he was fighting Floyd Mayweather,’’ Horn said. He was right.
There was also the whiff that Pacquiao was viewing this fight as the takeaway pizza you grab on the run because your favourite restaurant is booked out.
Even during the fight, a Horn flurry often drew a smile from the champion as if to say “is that all you have got?’’
In fact, he had a little more, just enough to produce one of sport’s most remarkable stories – the bullied kid who finally got the chocolates.
Last night Horn, in typical low- key fashion, emerged at a function in his honour at the Treasury Hotel, right eye closed and bruised, and I asked him about his plans for the night – and that block of chocolate.
“That chocolate is gone as soon I get home tonight – I can’t wait,’’ he said, rounding off the fairytale of the bullied kid who rose from nowhere to somehow get the chocolates.

Jeff Horn is set to have a huge weight advantage over Manny Pacquiao in Sunday’s fight.
JEFF Horn plans to use his massive weight advantage over Manny Pacquiao to grind down the world welterweight champion and stop him in the late rounds of Sunday’s superfight at Suncorp Stadium.
Horn, who has started to taper his weight down for Saturday morning’s official weigh-in, is likely to be as much as 7kg heavier than Pacquiao when the bell rings at 1.30pm on Sunday.
On Thursday afternoon, Horn was at his favourite coffee shop in West End chewing on a piece of fruit loaf but already savouring the taste of success.

‘NERDY, GEEKY’:Moment trainer saw greatness in Horn
The fight has already shattered the attendance record for an Australian fight with 47,000 tickets gone and pay-per-view sales on Main Event expected to top 200,000, making it the most watched pay-per-view event in Australian history.
Both boxers must come in under the welterweight limit of 66.68kg on Saturday morning at the official weigh-in at Suncorp Stadium.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach says his boxer is naturally a much smaller man and has been as light as 62kg in recent weeks. He will probably weight 65kg for the fight.
But after loading up on pasta after Saturday’s weigh-in Horn could be as much as 72kg by the time the pair get into the ring on Sunday afternoon.

“The weight advantage will definitely help me in the later rounds,’’ Horn said, “because we’ll be pushing against each other all the time and it means he’s going to be pushing a lot more weight than I have to.
“I’m normally about 71kg at this stage before a fight but I’ve been sitting at 70.2, 70.3 for the last few days as though my body instinctively knows the weight has to come down.

Boxing: Commentator Paul Upham disscusses the biggest fight of Jess Horn’s career against Manny Pacquiao.
Horn had a small portion of chicken and Caesar salad on Thursday night, and was planning eggs and avocado on toast for breakfast today, a small wrap at lunchtime and then a small salad to ward off the hunger at 5pm.
“Then tomorrow night I’ll have my very last training session before the fight. I’ll do eight three-minute rounds in a plastic sweat suit. That will rip about 1kg or more off me.
“I like to go to bed the night before a weigh-in under 69kg. Overnight I’ll drop as much as 500 grams and then in the morning I have a hot bath and that takes off the rest.’’
Horn said he and trainer Glenn Rushton took a “highly scientific’’ approach to weight control, ensuring Horn retains his remarkable physical strength while dropping weight fast.
“It’s important that I never feel too dehydrated,’’ Horn said.

Gene Simmons, longtime frontman for the rock band Kiss, wants a hand gesture that has been used by rock ‘n’ roll fans for decades to be his personal trademark.
Simmons filed an application at the US Patent and Trademark Office, seeking to trademark his symbol, at right, for the commercial category of “live performances by a musical artist” and “personal appearances by a musical artist.” The application was filed on June 9 and first reported by Law360 on Wednesday.

SO HERE we are in the van.
I’m sitting next to Jeff Horn and two rows behind us Manny Pacquiao – one of the greatest boxers of all time – is clutching his sides as tears stream down his face.
Horn hopes for a similar result on July 2 when he challenges the Filipino senator for the World Boxing Organisation welterweight title.
Instead, we’re outside a gym in an industrial hub at Tullamarine in Melbourne, where Eddie Maguire has just hosted a press conference promoting the Battle of Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium. Thirty thousand seats have already been sold.
Pacquiao, dressed like Horn in a dark suit and tie, has been besieged by fans queuing outside. All want to touch this godlike figure tipped to soon become the president of the Philippines.
Inside the van, Pacquiao does not present like a sporting deity who has earned more than $ 500 million from boxing. He’s rocking side to side with laughter at the Australian accent of Jim Banaghan, a rugby league identity organising his publicity for the fight promoters.
“Maybe I could just tell him a joke before the fight,” Horn says.
“He might not be able to recover.”
It’s the fourth day of the Pacquiao’s tour of Australia’s East Coast.

Pacquiao arrived in Brisbane on Monday with his wife, Jinkee, her sister, brother-in-law, two cornermen and his Canadian adviser Michael Koncz, who constantly refers to Pacquiao as “boss”.
On Anzac Day as a film crew captured Pacquiao in various Brisbane locations for television vignettes, Koncz tried to show he was the boss, telling them Manny was not to spend too much time in the Queensland sun, that he needed water by his side at all times and that only he or Manny could open the bottles, that Manny was only going up the Kangaroo Point stairs once and that he would not – repeat not – be doing any push-ups on uneven ground.

Pacquiao had two bodyguards with him throughout his Australian visit.
At South Bank, where he was filmed shadow boxing in a ring erected beside the Brisbane River, the champ was met by 3000 cheering, chanting fans waving Filipino flags and holding placards.
Some elderly women burst into tears as they threw their arms around him.
Pacquiao insisted on shaking every hand.
Later in the afternoon at Lone Pine he cuddled a koala, patted a kangaroo, waved at a Tasmanian devil and played two-up with Banaghan.
He met Horn for the first time at a film studio in Bowen Hills on Wednesday morning and despite the fact they will try to tear pieces off each other on July 2, they warmly embraced and posed for photos.
On Wednesday, Pacquiao and Horn attended the official launch of the fight at Suncorp Stadium and Horn admitted they both almost burst out laughing when they were asked to stare menacingly at each other for the cameras.
That afternoon they flew to Sydney, on separate flights, for another round with the media there.

After he alighted the Virgin flight Pacquiao wanted to use the gents. One bodyguard stood at the entrance while another guarded the stalls.
On Thursday, NSW Origin rugby league coach Laurie Daley presented Pacquiao with a Blues jumper and then Pacquiao and Horn flew on the same flight to Melbourne at lunchtime. Pacquiao was in the wide seats and Horn in economy, not that the Fighting Schoolteacher seemed to mind.
Outside the cage fighting gym in Tullamarine, Horn had a huge smile on his face listening to Pacquiao laughing his head off at Banaghan’s accent.
Pacquiao asked the minder to have the Park Royal hotel prepare five lots of the only dish he seemed to eat in Australia – steak, asparagus, rice and sauteed mushrooms.
“Salted mushrooms?” Banaghan said.
“Not salted, sauteed,” Pacquiao replied.

Then began a long comedy routine about Australian accents. Banaghan started talking about the “van” and Pacquiao pointed to the artery in his wrist.
“This is a van,” Pacquiao said.
“No that’s a vein, you idiot,” Banaghan replied.
“It’s a van,” Pacquiao said, again mimicking the Australian accent.
And so it went. The difference between the words “sword” and “sawed” sent Pacquiao into hysterics.
Taking all of this in next to me, Horn said Pacquiao was such a nice guy it was a shame they had to punch each other on July 2.
