Though former President Donald Trump vigorously campaigned in support of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2018, the one-time allies have grown distant amid rumors they will soon launch competing campaigns for the 2024 presidential election.
Sources familiar with the pair's interactions told The Washington Post the two haven't spoken in months, despite Trump once saying DeSantis would make a good Vice President if he changed up his ticket in 2024.
Privately, Trump now lambasts the man he once referred to as his "great friend," calling the Florida governor "ungrateful" for his earlier endorsement, The Washington Post reported.
"I made him," The Washington Post reported Trump told his aides while monitoring DeSantis' public appearances and polling numbers.
Though neither has officially announced a 2024 presidential run, the two politicians are widely regarded as expected frontrunners in the upcoming race, which Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell predicted would feature a "crowded" primary.
"I don't understand what happened here," The Washington Post reported Trump said of DeSantis' diminishing support. "I don't understand why he doesn't appreciate me more."
Trump has made similar comments before, criticizing DeSantis for his "dull personality."
In response, DeSantis has taken steps to distinguish himself from the former president on the campaign trail, though he hasn't explicitly criticized Trump. His recent decision to fly asylum seekers to Martha's Vineyard sent the former president into a rage, according to a report from Rolling Stone, spurring political analysts to argue that DeSantis was taking the spotlight off of Trump and furthering their rivalry.
The strategy appears to be working: DeSantis has out-fundraised the former president this year to the tune of $ 43 million, according to data collected by OpenSecrets. Polling also suggests the governor has an advantage over the former president in a hypothetical primary match-up in 2024.
Representatives for Trump and DeSantis did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead is, not to put too fine a point on it, a must-see for fans of Daryl and, for that matter, his four-legged friend, Dog. “It tells a story about what was going on with Daryl during the long stretch of time that he was away [futilely searching for his lost buddy, Rick] and how he came to have this dog,” showrunner Angela Kang tells TVLine.
It also tells a story about how Norman Reedus’ beloved alter ego came to make the acquaintance of a mystery woman named Leah, played by True Blood alum Lynn Collins. “This character comes into Daryl’s life at a time when they’re both very raw and vulnerable,” previews Kang, adding as if the teaser photo of Leah holding a gun on Daryl wasn’t a bit of a tip-off, “They have this very complex relationship that takes a long time before it starts to thaw.”
When it does finally begin to defrost, however, Leah comes to have a significant impact on our taciturn protagonist. “She is somebody who obviously left a mark on Daryl,” the executive producer hints. Ultimately, how he regards her becomes “all part of his guilt over time in the apocalypse.”

“I’ve owned up to the fact that I have… a case of Parkinson’s. And I just hope they hang on and they’re there for me because I need them,” Ozzy said.
The news had an impact on all members of the Osbourne clan, with Sharon adding: “It’s not a death sentence but it affects certain nerves in your body.
“You have a good day, a good day, then a really bad day,” she said, with daughter Kelly Osbourne, 36, discussing the struggle she faced with her father’s health.
“The hardest thing is watching somebody that you love suffer,” she said.

Award-winning comedian Peter Kay has been relatively off the showbiz radar in recent years following the cancellation of his nationwide stand-up tour back in 2017. Despite two new episodes of his BBC comedy Car Share in 2018, fans have been rather starved of new material from the star in recent years. But today, he bucked that trend as Cat Deeley took over from Graham Norton for a one-off broadcast on Radio 2.
The Phoenix Nights star joined Cat for a lengthy and uplifting chat to kick-off 2021.
Peter and Cat shared a laugh as they reminisced about their careers in showbusiness as well as what life has been like amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The chat came as Cat filled in for Claudia Winkleman who’s set to take over in the time slot from Graham Norton following his departure from Radio 2.
And it was a welcome one with some fans even calling for Peter and Cat to spend more time on the airwaves together.

Taking to Twitter after the chat, one fan said: “Listening to Peter Kay on the radio love him so much!”
A second echoed: “@catdeeley could you and @peterkay_co_uk be the next Radio or TV double act? You were absolutely brill on @BBCRadio2 earlier. More please!”
“If you want a good laugh today then listen to @peterkay_co_uk chatting to @catdeeley on @BBCRadio2 today. It’s great to hear him back on form,” encouraged a third fan.
While a fourth concurred: “Absolutely love Peter Kay, brilliant to hear him this morning with Cat Deeley.”
After Cat insisted it “didn’t work” to have him sing in the movies, Peter recalled how he mistook the story’s plot for real-life when meeting the cast of the stage production.
“I went to watch Mamma Mia!, the stage version, and I loved it and I don’t want to ruin it, but she gets married at the end,” the comedian began.
“They go off into the moonlight to I Have A Dream (and) I got a bit emotional. Anyway, I knew the stage manager and she said, ‘Come back’.”
Peter detailed how he headed backstage to meet the cast only to congratulate the leading star on her nuptials.
“I went back [stage] and the main girl she said, ‘Lovely to meet you’ and I said, ‘Congratulations,’ and she said, ‘Why?’”
Peter then reminded the actor that she had just got married before having to correct himself when he made the realisation it was just acting.
“She looked at me as if to say, ‘This is a play, this is a musical and this isn’t real life’,” Peter added as Cat let out a laugh.
The chat is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said he wanted to be able to “draw a line in the sand” after the anti-Semitism report’s publication, but Jeremy Corbyn hindered that. Since the release of the EHRC report into the Labour Party, Mr Corbyn has been suspended pending further investigation and has had the whip removed. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Sir Keir said: “Within the Shadow Cabinet you have responsibility, I accept that.
“We all have to accept the findings yesterday and apologise for them.
“Recognise the hurt they have caused and be absolutely detemined as I am to implement the recommendations as quickly as possible.”
BBC presenter Charlie Stayt interjected: “As Luciana Berger said very clearly, for people looking from the outside what happened to her wasn’t hidden.
“The question to anyone who was in a senior role in the Labour Party over that period of time is, why weren’t you seeing it?

“If as you say, you did call it out why did you stay metaphorically in the room?
“You were backing Jeremy Corbyn whose leadership in this report has been called so far into question in terms of legality.
“You backed him just by staying there.”
Sir Keir continued: “I called this out in the Shadow Cabinet as did a number of other people and publicly.
The EHRC concluded that the lack of training for people handling anti-Semitism complaints indirectly discriminated against Jewish members until August 2020, by which time Sir Keir Starmer was leader of the party.
Labour has committed to proper training, with the EHRC recommending it should be mandatory and fully implemented within six months.
Recommendations made by the watchdog include commissioning an independent process to handle anti-Semitism complaints.
The EHRC’s lead investigator Alasdair Henderson told a press conference that blame could not be placed on one person alone and the problem went beyond Mr Corbyn, but added that “as leader of the party, and with evidence of political interference from within his office, he does have a responsibility ultimately for those failings”.
“I did that and Andi Peters came along as one of the guests and he saw me do warm-up and said, ‘Do you want to screen test for some jobs,’ and I ended up getting T4 off the back of it,” he added.
“It’s the way a lot of presenters and comedians started,” Alex remarked.
“And Susan, haven’t you compèred one of Michael’s shows?”
“Yes I did,” she confirmed. “He was at the Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow.”

Hugh also has sevearl television shows he voices over for, from The Cruise for ITV and Wild Britain for Channel 5, as well as several audio books.
He is also partial to a voice over for several children’s characters in the television and film industry.
Elsewhere on The One Show, Alex and Gethin spoke about the things keeping them awake at night.
“When I put my head on the pillow, I just think about everything,” Gethin began.
“But just recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about my parents, because, they just don’t know what date they’ll be able to get back to normal.
“My dad is shielding – he’s vulnerable – and it’s really difficult, there’s no answers,” he continued to reveal.
“It’s almost like he’s omnipresent,” Michelle McNamara says in an archival interview at the top of this week’s I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, “and I can’t figure that out.”
If you watched last week’s premiere of HBO’s disturbing-yet-compelling docuseries, you know exactly whom McNamara is referencing: The East Area Rapist, a criminal who attacked more than 50 women in the Sacramento, Calif., area in the 1970s and whose crimes eventually escalated, prompting McNamara to dub him the Golden State Killer.
Episode 2 of the series focuses on a bunch of survivors whom the Golden State Killer raped, with ample context about how ’70s attitudes toward the crime tended to shame and blame the victim. Apparently there were several rapists active in the Sacramento area in those years; per sheriff’s deputy Larry Crompton, the Golden State Killer was the most violent. “The sex was not his thing. The terror that he put in them was the thing,” he says.
The hour chronicles the criminal’s change to attacking heterosexual couples, as well as the diabolical way he would hogtie the man and place plates and bowls on his back, then threaten to do bodily harm if he heard any of the dishes hit the floor.
“He was just walking around the house like he owns it,” Linda O’Dell, Survivor #20, recalls, adding that her husband never knew how to process the trauma. “I don’t think a lot of men knew how to deal with it, to be honest.” In another interview with the survivors of Attack #31, Bob Hardwick clearly has a very hard time listening to his wife, Gay, talk about what happened to her while he was restrained in another room. It’s striking, how she’s (somehow) so poised and how he (understandably) looks like he’s been punched in the gut, even all these years later. Gay also brings up how the investigation of the crime, in which she wasn’t able to put on clothes or go to the bathroom until the police told her she could, felt like another violation.
“We were just a piece of evidence in our own home,” she says. Once she returned home after visiting the hospital, she says, the place was a wreck and was covered in fingerprinting dust: “Everything felt contaminated in that house, and it never felt the same.”
At the time, authorities feared it was only a matter of time before the rapist started killing people. But what they didn’t know was that he probably already had. The documentary walks us through the lethal shooting of Brian and Katie Maggiore, who were walking their dog in 1978 and — it is believed — saw the Golden State Killer in such a way that they could probably identify him. A neighbor who happened to be an art student also saw him, and contributed to the composite sketch at the top of this post.
Because the rapist often took monogrammed items from his victims, McNamara would trawl eBay in the wee hours of the morning, on the slim hope that one of these pilfered pieces would show up on the online marketplace. And one night, she was elated when she came across some distinctive cufflinks engraved with the initials “N” and “R” that seemed to match those taken during a crime. In narration, we hear how McNamara went into the bedroom where Oswalt was sleeping and stared at him until he woke up. “I think I found him,” she said.
Other notes for the file:
* In narration, McNamara talks about how the murder of Kathy Lombardo, one of her neighbors in a Chicago suburb when McNamara was 14, piqued her interest in similar crimes. “Everyone moved on,” she narrates, “and I couldn’t.” By the way, Lombardo’s killing remains unsolved.
* Patton Oswalt recalls how McNamara’s dreams often got the best of her. “One time she ran out of the back of the house,” he says, chuckling. “Again, a very, very, vivid, very present mind, and that was one of the, I guess, the costs of it.”

Dave Chappelle took aim at CNN anchor Don Lemon in a blistering new stand-up comedy special for Netflix — and Lemon doesn’t mind, actually.
In the new special, filmed on June 6 in front of a socially distanced live audience and titled 8:46 in honor of George Floyd — you can watch the full special above — Chappelle gets serious and tackles the systemic racism that contributed to Floyd’s untimely death and the worldwide protests that followed. He calls out Lemon in particular for demanding that celebrities speak out on the issue: “This is the streets talking for themselves. They don’t need me right now. I kept my mouth shut. But don’t think that my silence is complicit… Why would anyone care what their favorite comedian thinks after they saw a police officer kneel on a man’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds?”
Lemon responded to Chappelle’s criticism on CNN’s New Day… and didn’t really argue with his stance. “I actually agree with Dave Chappelle,” he said, adding that Chappelle is his favorite comedian. “I think that the young people who are out there in the streets don’t really care what we [in the establishment] have to say.”
While he maintained that this is “a moment that we should all be using our platform to do whatever we can,” Lemon conceded that Chappelle was doing just that with his new special. “He’s talking about this issue, and I think it’s great. He’s using his platform to talk about this in the way that he can.”
Chappelle also took shots at conservative commentators Laura Ingraham and Candace Owens in the 27-minute special, which was posted for free on YouTube. The comedian has produced five previous stand-up specials for Netflix, most recently last year’s Dave Chappelle: Sticks and Stones.

Empire may be getting the band back together for one final encore.
Showrunner Brett Mahoney tells TVLine that discussions are underway to possibly have embattled former cast member Jussie Smollett return as Jamal before the show wraps its six-season run this spring.
“It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama of which he was such a significant part of without seeing him,” offers Mahoney, before adding, “It’s fair to say it’s being discussed, but there’s no plan as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”
The fact that Empire is even mulling a Smollett comeback represents a bit of a turnaround from last June when series creator Lee Daniels slammed the door shut on the possibility, maintaining via Twitter, “Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire.”
Smollett, who had played Lucious’ musician son Jamal since Empire debuted in 2015, was written out of the final episodes of Season 5 following a headline-grabbing brush with the law. The actor claimed he was beaten up by two men who hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him, and then was accused of fabricating the attack and charged with making a false police report.
The charges were later dropped, but the scandal seemed to end Smollett’s run on Empire. When the show was renewed for sixth and final season last May, the network extended his contract but said there were “no plans” to bring him back. (Smollett’s final Empire episode saw Jamal get married to Kai; the show established early on in Season 6 that the newlyweds are now living full-time in London.)
Empire‘s fall finale airs tonight at 9/8c on Fox.
