State of Play returns tomorrow, September 13. Watch live to see new reveals and updates for PS5, PS4, and PS VR2.
Tune in at 3 PM PT / 11 PM BST: https://t.co/pB7wQ5ipwvpic.twitter.com/GfbT4uK1Cy
— PlayStation (@PlayStation) September 12, 2022
Further details regarding which games will be showcased were not provided, however Sony has repeatedly focused on PS VR2 titles during the past two events, seemingly intent on teasing all of the nearly two dozen "major" titles — including from the Among Us and Horizon franchises — which are scheduled to launch alongside the next generation headset.
The State of Play will live stream through PlayStation's Twitch and YouTube channels. Gaming fans will be in for a treat tomorrow, as this afternoon event follows Nintendo's next Direct stream, which is happening Tuesday morning, at 10am ET.

Snapchat is introducing new Friendship Profiles that will celebrate your relationships with your closest friends. The feature will dig up some of the highlights of the conversations shared between you and your friends. Snap Inc. is also introducing new Bitmoji-centric features, including Bitmoji Stories and custom Bitmoji merchandise that will be sold through Snapchat.
Friendship Profiles will surface some of the stuff you and your friends have saved over the course of your time using Snapchat together. Chat messages, photos, videos and other content — basically anything that you and your friends have saved in your conversations will be surfaced to remind you of those shared moments. The memories will be showcased privately and can be accessed by tapping on your friends’ Bitmoji. Friendship Profiles will start rolling out today. Snapchat says they will be available to users globally in the coming weeks.
In addition to the Friendship Profiles, Snapchat is also rolling out some new Bitmoji content. First is Bitmoji Stories, which are comic book-style tales that will star your Bitmoji and feature appearances from your friends. The stories will start to appear in the Discover feed on November 14th, with new content cropping up over the next several weeks. They will be available only to English speakers for the time being.

If that’s not enough Bitmoji for you, Snapchat is also launching Bitmoji Merch. You’ll be able to plaster the cartoon versions of you and your friends on all kinds of gear including t-shirts, mugs, shower curtains and phone cases. The Bitmoji merch will be available starting November 15th. You can access it by visiting the Settings menu in Snapchat, then selecting the Snap Store. The feature will only be available for iOS users in the United States to start.

Snpachat has been putting a considerable amount of effort into beefing up its offerings to keep people on the app engaged. Earlier this year, it dragged Bitmoji outside of the Snapchat ecosystem so users could share stickers with their friends across iOS apps using the Bitmoji Keyboard. It’s also beefed up customization options for the cartoon characters and opened up its platform to third-party developers to create new ways to interact through Snapchat.

HTC can’t catch a break. The company has announced that in June its sales fell “nearly 68 percent,” according to Reuters. Earlier this week, the company revealed it would cull some 1,500 employees from its Taiwan manufacturing division in its chase for profitability. The last several years haven’t been kind to the company, rife with reorganizations (including one earlier this year), key staff members resigning and desperate efforts to put money in the bank by seemingly any means possible — including selling its Pixel team to Google for $ 1.1 billion.
Recently, the company combined its virtual reality and mobile divisions in an effort to refocus. Given this week’s news, and the Pixel sale as evidence, it wouldn’t be surprising if, in a last-ditch effort to return to profitability, HTC sold its Vive team to Valve. The two worked closely on the device, and it’s not like Valve’s coffers will run dry anytime soon.
Where would that leave HTC though, like BlackBerry? Vive is the company’s last stand, from the looks of it, and selling it off sounds like a Hail Mary. More than that, pulling a BlackBerry only works if the handsets HTC produces capture the market, something that hasn’t happened in years. And unlike BlackBerry’s keyboards, HTC doesn’t have one defining feature, let alone two (a reputation for enterprise-grade security). The new reduction in headcount probably won’t have the same financial benefits of the Pixel sale, but we’ll have to wait for HTC’s next earnings report to know for sure.

]]>Twitter released quite a few news-related features over the past years in an effort to become your go-to source for the latest in current events. It introduced a dedicated News tab in 2015, for instance, though that one didn’t work out as planned. Last month, it also started testing an algorithm that puts trending tweets from news organizations at the top of your timeline when something big happens. Now, the platform has rolled out a feature that highlights news links tweeted by the people you Follow right in your Home timeline, according to BuzzFeed News. Underneath the highlighted story, you’ll see all the tweets from your network that mention that particular link.
I haven’t come across the behavior yet, but Twitter has confirmed its rollout to the publication, which said that it’s now out for all users across iOS, Android and the web. We’ve also reached out to Twitter to clarify whether it’s truly a public worldwide rollout or merely a limited test.

Twitter started grouping together tweets about ongoing events back when it launched “Happening Now.” It only applied to sports topics in the beginning, but this new feature and the one that pushes trending tweets by news organizations to the top of your feed are probably part of its expansion.

People are being encouraged to download their Facebook data following concerns about the information the social media giant collects on its users. It seems to include phone calls, text messages and other non-Facebook activity.

New Zealand software developer Dylan McKay highlighted the issue after he downloaded his data from Facebook and found that the company had recorded his text and call data. McKay posted the information to his Twitter feed.
The New Zealander said he became curious about how much of his private information the platform had stored following allegations that Cambridge Analytica used the personal data of 50 million Facebook users to target voters during the US presidential election in 2016. Trawling through his files, McKay learned that Facebook had about two years’ worth of phone call metadata from his Android phone.

The furor led Julian Assange to post instructions Saturday about how to access the data online. In a follow-up post, the WikiLeaks founder called the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg a “megalomaniac” and told his followers he had deleted his Facebook account, and then said he never had one to begin with.
What to see what Facebook has on you (at a minimum)?
1. Goto https://t.co/UFPfcZwJw7
2. Click “Download a copy of your Facebook data”
3. Wait for automatic email from Facebook
4. Download the ZIP file link in the email
5. Extract it and open ‘html/index.htm’— Julian Assange

Many people are now taking to Twitter to express their shock after downloading their own data. Some said they were dismayed at the level of detail Facebook had collected about their lives, including logged calls with people who don’t have Facebook profiles. However, others were less sympathetic.
I’ve just looked at the data files I requested from Facebook and they had every single phone number in my contacts. They had every single social event I went to, a list of all my friends (and their birthdays) and a list of every text I’ve sent.

If you are surprised that Facebook may be selling your data then you are the reason hairdryers come with the warning, “Do not use in shower”

Speaking to Ars Technica, Facebook said that phone contacts are uploaded to the messaging or social app after it is downloaded. The app also explicitly requests permission for access. “It’s a widely used practice to begin by uploading your phone contacts,” a spokesperson for the firm told the website.
Some on social media have pointed out that Facebook asks for permission to upload your contacts to the app and this could explain the level of data contained in the downloads. However that in turn raises a separate question, if one user gives permission for their contacts to be uploaded, what does that mean for those people whose details are filed as a result? RT.com has contacted Facebook for comment.

In the wake of this latest revelation the finger’s also being pointed at Google, accusing the company of deliberately not fixing a number of known security issues with Android phones. In November, a Quartz report claimed that Google still collects the location data of Android phone users even if they turn off their location services settings, take out their SIM card or restore their device to factory settings.
Which means this wasn’t just a question of Google accidentally leaving (every) barn door open. It was a willful decision to leave this door open while the horses streamed out two by two.

Facebook is also not the only app accused of surreptitiously collecting its users’ data. Last year, a joint study from Yale Privacy Lab and French non-profit research group Exodus Privacy, found that there were 25 trackers hidden in popular Google Play apps such as Uber, Tinder, Skype, Twitter, Spotify and Snapchat.

There was a time when the Saw franchise was synonymous with Halloween. Now Jigsaw hopes to capture that horror magic again by reviving the series with a brand new blood-drenched installment. A new clip from Jigsaw has just arrived to give us a glimpse of the terrors that await audiences, like walls covered in saw blades and people with buckets over their heads. Are you brave enough to watch the Jigsaw clips below?
Do you want to play a game? It’s called “Remember The Saw Franchise?” Seven movies were released over seven years, from 2004 to 2010, each laying claim to the Halloween season (people eventually stopped showing up, but most were giant hits). The Saw series examined the increasingly complicated world of serial killer Jigsaw, who was prone to setting up elaborate death traps for people who were ungrateful to be living their mundane lives. Saw 3D, aka Saw: The Final Chapter, seemingly put the horror franchise in its grave, but now it’s back from the dead with Jigsaw, a new film filled with even more booby traps and blue filter lighting.

In a new clip exclusive to IGN, Jigsaw’s latest series of victims awake in a dark room to find themselves in a perilous predicament. They all have buckets over their heads (Why? Who knows!), but even worse than that is the fact that chains attached to their necks are pulling them closer and closer to a wall jutting with buzzsaw blades. “I’m sure you’re all wondering why you’re here!” rasps the voice of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), speaking to his victims…and also possibly the audience. Are people excited for another Saw movie?
As to what we can expect from the new film, co-director Michael Spierig, one half of The Spierig Brothers, who also directed the vampire film Daybreakers, suggested we’d be in for something a little more fun and a little less vicious than previous entries:
“We’ve got some pretty wild traps in the film — we don’t shy away from the gore. It’s such a perfect Halloween scarefest. It’s perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun, which is something we tried to inject into it. But it’s still full of good fun gore, that’s for sure. And, on top of that, it’s got a really great mystery, and there’s very interesting twists. It’s Saw for 2017.”
As if to confirm Spierig’s statement’s, there’s a new Jigsaw TV spot that I’m shocked to admit actually is kind of fun. I won’t besmirch anyone who likes the Saw franchise, but I’ve always found the films to be particularly joyless. This new TV spot, however, is surprisingly light hearted. Or, at least as light hearted as a Saw movie can be,
This is the first bit of advertising for the film that actually has me interested! Apparently all it took to save the Saw franchise was to add some jokes. That said, the advertising team behind Jigsaw are also aware that the core audience of the franchise probably isn’t looking for comedy, so they’ve also cut this TV spot, which plays up the more disturbing elements.
But wait, there’s more! If you’re not Jigsawed out yet, there’s one more video. Titled The Philosophy of Jigsaw, this video is more like a crash-course in the franchise as a whole, quickly firing off clips from the previous films to fill you in on all of Jigsaw’s previous shenanigans. There’s not much new here, although we do get to see Tobin Bell wearing a lot of makeup to make his face look like Billy the Saw Puppet, so I guess that’s something.
It’s worth noting that the character of Jigsaw died several films ago, and we’re talking definitively died here. Unlike horror movie killers Jason and Freddy, who perish only to quickly come back in the next film, Jigsaw was just a normal man who died and had a bloody on-screen autopsy. Yet he was forward-thinking enough to record a wealth of audio to threaten future victims. He’s was a real go-getter, that Jigsaw. Here’s the official Jigsaw synopsis:
A mysterious madman rounds up a group of victims to play sadistic games of life and death. Police soon find evidence that link the crimes to Jigsaw, the infamous killer who died 10 years earlier.
Jigsaw opens October 27, 2017.
