In a now viral video, comedian Sandy Honig recorded herself uncontrollably vomiting around an Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield office park after the insurance company denied coverage for a procedure that would help alleviate her stomach-churning symptoms. 

Honig, who suffers from partial paralysis of her stomach due to a condition called gastroparesis, cannot normally digest food and has been near-constantly nausated for the past three years since the onset of her symptoms. Almost anything she eats, she throws up. 

"It's hard to get up in the morning when the first thing you have to do is drink a cup of water, and that makes you sick," Honig told Vice News. 

A common treatment for the condition are Botox injections, which help patients more easily digest food by relaxing the part of the stomach connected to the small intestine. The $ 3,000 treatment provides relief for several months at a time.

After being denied coverage for the injections in January — Honig told NBC News Anthem determined they were "medically unnecessary" — Honig, who is a writer for Three Busy Debras on Adult Swim and HBO Max, found herself angry enough to act against the health insurance giant in the nearly 3-minute video. 

"I mean, this video was just made from complete rage," she told Teen Vogue.

The clip shows Honig at an office park where she repeatedly vomits while discussing her plight and the insurance appeals process with passers-by. She attempted to show up directly to the Anthem offices, but was denied entry without an employee badge: "Even if I'm a member of the Anthem family?" Honig asks an employee in the video.

On camera in front of the Anthem office, Honig vomits into an envelope she joked contained her appeals letter to the insurance company — "relevant documentation," she called it — and seals it up. She told Vice News she did not actually send the envelope and her doctor mailed her real appeal letter. 

In addition to denying her procedure, the company allegedly also called the police on Honig following the stunt. 

"It was such a lovely surprise to get a visit from two men armed with guns and batons in my own home," Honig says in the video, showing two Los Angeles Police Department officers who arrived at her home to perform a wellness check on her. 

Honig told Teen Vogue she originally thought the officers were there to ticket her for trespassing, but actually were called to perform the check to ensure she was not a danger to herself or others.

"It was very interesting," Honig told Teen Vogue. "I was playing with putting this in the video, but it's actually way too complicated — I don't have a concise way of explaining it, but what the cop was telling me was that if I were to harm myself, [the insurance company] could be liable because they had evidence that I was, you know, acting erratically. They were basically covering their own ass by calling the cops on me. It was just insane."

Representatives for Anthem did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, but told NBC News the insurance company denied the Botox injections to "ensure Ms. Honig gets the right treatment for her particular condition."

"Our clinical team has carefully reviewed her case and our medical policies, and the existing medical evidence does not support the treatment she is requesting for her condition," Anthem told NBC News. "Therefore, it is not a covered benefit under the family's health plan."

"Health insurance is fucking made-up," Honig told Vice News.

A representative for Honig did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom has received hundreds of complaints over Amanda’s revealing ensembles, something the judge has openly addressed following the backlash.

Speaking on Loose Women, Amanda said it “drove her mad” that she receives so much attention for her outfits.

“It drives me mad that these 50-year-old boobs get so much airtime when I’m sat next to Alesha who wears lots of things down there,” she told the panel.

But will Kate Kane herself? Is there any way — or any reason — for the Arrowverse series to write in the change of appearance?

Let me state up front, before we blow past the 280-character attention span, that I am NOT an advocate for writing it into a show when a role gets recast. Ignore it, I say, or make a wink-wink nod to it via some second banana’s throwaway line. (“You seem… different … today, Laramie.”) I spent a whole day last week compiling/researching dozens of past TV recasts, and it is rarely written into the story.

Also, the first couple of times I asked myself if Batwoman would/could/should account on-screen for the replacement of series lead Ruby Rose (already removed from The CW’s fall schedule graphic above, ouch) with whomever, what I came up with never held water. Mostly because no matter what disfiguring accident you throw at Kate in the Season 2 premiere, it would just seem odd that she gets a new face just as frenemy Tommy Elliot did. 

But then… but then I kept coming back to something Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries said in our post mortem Q&A, five days before the Ruby Rose news went wide.

I had asked Dries — as I did with her Flash counterpart, Eric Wallace — if the scripts for this past season that could not be filmed before the coronavirus shutdown would be left untouched over the long hiatus. And whereas Wallace just barely admitted there “might be a wee bit of tinkering” (if only to eliminate crowd scenes that would be problematic to film post-pandemic), Dries seemed more open to changes.

“When you are a writer and you have time on your hands, you start tinkering and tinkering,” she quickly answered. “The one thing writers don’t ever have is time, so when they get it, they think about making changes.”

Was she perhaps already looking ahead, to writing in the recast? I truly and absolutely do not know, and Dries upon reading this may very well dismiss any such theory on Twitter. But still, it nudged me to think a bit harder about how Batwoman could give Kate Kane a new face, without it seeming ridic.

So… what if… Season 2 opens with a street chase, shot wide at night and using a stand-in in the Batwoman costume. And the Scarlet Knight, like, skids her motorcycle into, I dunno, a farmer’s combine that happens to be motoring through the city. Kate just barely survives, but man, that face will need some work.

The problem we run into here is that, Arrowverse “shmience” or not, real-life plastic surgery requires time to heal. And while it’d be a shame to make Alice hurry up and wait with the Tommy Elliot/”Bruce Wayne” scheme she just revealed to us, perhaps this makes the return of Kate’s long-missing cousin a bit less random. Maybe Bruce shows up at Kate’s bedside, saying, “When I heard about how you nearly lost your life upholding my legacy, I couldn’t stay away any longer.” Because if he had a meaningful reason to end his absence from Gotham, Kate and Luke might be a little less leary of hijinks. It’d help sell Alice’s elaborate ruse.

Hey, maybe Alice and Tommy had even orchestrated Kate’s skid into that combine? To give “Bruce” a reason to return home?

(At this point with quarantine brain, I started thinking too, too much. What if Kate post-surgery pretends to leave town, now that her cousin Bruce is back in charge? And then when Commander Kane finally captures Batwoman and peels her cowl off, he doesn’t recognize that it’s his daughter?! Holy Bat-Irony! And then I took a Tylenol PM.)

Again, to be clear, I am 100-percent OK with Batwoman not addressing the recast on-screen! We are all grown-ups and such real-life matters can be ignored, just as when One Life to Live‘s previously recast Max Holden suddenly looked like Jimmy DePaiva again.

But what about you, the Bat-viewer? Would it be kosher with you if there is near-zero reference to a new actress playing Kate, when Batwoman opens Season 2 in the year 2021? Or are you one of those people who “needs” such things written into a show?

A young Saudi woman has barricaded herself into a hotel in Thailand, saying that she has fled from abusive relatives and will be killed if sent back home. Her claims have caught the attention of human rights campaigners.

Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun, 18, a Saudi national, says she intended to seek asylum in Australia but a representative from the Saudi Embassy seized her passport in Bangkok airport on Sunday.

She has currently barricaded herself in a hotel room in the airport’s transit zone, and is facing deportation to her home country. Thai immigration officials have indicated that she will be sent back on Monday.

In a video shared on social media, al-Qunun said that she will not leave the room until she has a meeting with UN officials.

The photos taken in her room show that she has barricaded the door with a table and mattresses.

The woman told human rights campaigners she had escaped from physical and psychological abuse that she suffers at the hands of her relatives. She managed to flee during her family’s visit to Kuwait, which, unlike Saudi Arabia, doesn’t require a male relative’s approval for a woman to leave the country. Al-Qunun now fears that she will be jailed upon returning home or even killed.

“My family is strict and locked me in a room for six months just for cutting my hair,” al-Qunun told AFP.

“I’m sure 100 percent they will kill me as soon as I get out of the Saudi jail.”

Human Rights Watch appealed to Bangkok to halt the woman’s planned deportation. The organization’s Deputy Asia Director Phil Robertson blasted the Thai authorities for their “heartless lack of concern” for al-Qunun’s wellbeing.

The woman’s pleas also caught the attention of Georg Schmidt, the German ambassador to the nation. He wrote that he would stay “in touch” with local officials concerning al-Qunun’s fate.

In this day and age, you can get anything and everything online, especially when it comes to pornography. Taking a cue from sites like Chaturbate and CamSoda, this new thriller finds a cam girl named Alice (Madeline Brewer) suddenly replaced on her site of choice by a girl who looks and sounds exactly like her. But it’s not her. Somehow, her identity has been stolen, and it’s throwing her entire life and financial flow into upheaval, not to mention driving her positively crazy.

Our own Marisa Mirabal caught the film at Fantastic Fest earlier this year, and she wrote, “While the twists are ample, the film’s ending results in a fairly cursory climax void of definitive resolution and depth. However, Cam is a multi-layered existential thriller with captivating pacing and unique experimental storytelling.”

Having seen Cam myself, my feelings on the ending are the same. But that doesn’t stop the rest of the movie from being suspenseful and thrilling, especially with such a solid performance from Madeline Brewer in the lead, as well as her mysterious online doppelganger.

Cam is directed by Daniel Goldhaber and written and produced by Isa Mazzei. It hits Netflix on November 16, 2018.

Cam stars the revelatory Madeline Brewer (Orange is the New Black, The Handmaid’s Tale) as Alice, a rising young star in webcam pornography. Alice wants nothing more than to break the top ten ranking of camgirls in her network, concocting outrageous and original narratives for each of her live shows to slowly climb in popularity and prestige. But Alice has three rules: she doesn’t do public shows, she doesn’t fake her orgasms, and she doesn’t mislead her “Johns” with promises of love or in-person affection. Instead, she succeeds through sheer willpower and infectious optimism.

It’s impossible not to be charmed by Alice, who despite her risqué career path maintains an innocent worldview, close relationship with her mother and younger brother, and supportive network of camgirl friends. She’s effervescent and warm and full of ambition — sex work simply seems like the easiest way to break away from the the small-town fate those around her have succumbed to. But one day, Alice wakes to find another girl who looks just like her has commandeered her cam channel and username, and this girl has no rules or boundaries. Alice wants nothing more than to take back her page and her life before it’s too late to save either.

Her husband (Dominic Cooper) is caught up with work, her kids don’t seem to ever make her life any easier, and she’s just not happy anymore. That’s when she takes it upon herself to venture off to Paris and sort her life out.

The Escape played at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and Variety had plenty of nice things to say about the film, especially the lead performance from Arterton, in their review:

“Bolstered by Gemma Arterton’s unvarnished, affecting lead turn as a young stay-at-home mom in soulless suburban England who’s slowly consumed by depression she’s made to feel guilty for having, Savage’s film thoughtfully and credibly outlines the conflict between a superficially abundant lifestyle and overwhelming internal lack. It’s on less sure footing with the morally fraught wish-fulfilment of its second half, though Arterton’s quiet, consistent emotional conviction pulls matters through.”

While the premise might feel familiar and the film looks a little dreary (or at least more dreary than the similar, forthcoming release of Tully with Charlize Theron), it’s no more repetitive than all the coming of age romances or superhero movies we get year in and year out.

The life of a wife and mother can be such a thankless job, and the movies we see on the big screen aren’t always an escape from reality. Sometimes the movies are a reminder of our own reality and the struggles of our everyday lives.
