Six vehicle manufacturers are in contention to claim a government contract to create and build a new mail truck for the United States Postal Service, one of which is Oshkosh. We recently spotted the Wisconsin-based truck manufacturer’s proposed mail truck testing on the streets.

Compared to the unique styling of the Karsan and Mahindra proposals (AM General, Utilimaster, and VT Hackney are also competing for the contract), the Oshkosh mail truck takes a more cost-conscious approach. Rather than develop a purpose-built truck specifically for mail delivery, Oshkosh is taking a standard Ford Transit cargo van and modifying it for postal service.

Changes include new doors that appear to widen the cabin and make it easier for the driver of the right-hand-drive van to get in and out of the vehicle. Additionally, Oshkosh has replaced the standard barn doors with a roll-up door, which ought to ease the loading and unloading of packages. A set of extenders on the front and rear bumpers should help limit damage to the van in a low-speed collision, while several additional mirrors help the driver better navigate his or her surroundings.

Given that the USPS is requesting its new mail truck be diesel powered, we’d wager that Oshkosh’s Transit-based proposal will use Ford’s turbo-diesel 3.2-liter inline-five engine. With 185 horses and 350 lb-ft of torque, it ought to be plenty powerful enough for the low-speed job of mail delivery.

The USPS is expected to decide by year’s end which proposal will be granted the contract to build and supply it with new mail-delivery trucks to replace the aged Grumman LLVs, which have been puttering about towns across America for more than a quarter of a century.

Waymo, Google’s self-driving car company, is moving beyond driverless taxis. The company announced on Friday that its self-driving trucks have begun hauling real cargo in the Atlanta area. A safety driver in the truck will take over if anything goes wrong.

“Over the past year, we’ve been conducting road tests of Waymo’s self-driving trucks in California and Arizona,” Waymo wrote in a blog post. Now the trucks are going to haul loads to Google’s data centers in the state of Georgia.

Waymo already announced in January that it was expanding testing of its self-driving taxi service to the Atlanta area.

Yamaha is best known for two-wheeled creations, but it has also been known to create four-wheeled car concepts here and there, like the intriguing Sports Ride shown at the Tokyo auto show in 2015. This year, Yamaha has created a funky concept vehicle that serves to complement its bike offerings. It’s called the Cross Hub, and it’s a tiny little trucklet that can accommodate two motorcycles in its bed. Think of it as similar to the Honda Ridgeline or the Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup concept, only smaller and with more fanciful features.

At just 176.7 inches long, the Cross Hub is roughly the same size as a Honda Civic hatchback. How can two motorcycles fit into its stubby bed, then? The pinnacle of the Yamaha’s wackiness is its unconventional diamond-shaped four-seat layout. With the driver’s seat in the middle flanked by three passenger seats, the rear of the truck’s cab curves inward, allowing for enough cutaway space for each motorcycle’s front wheels.

Yamaha isn’t disclosing any powertrain specifications, which is no surprise given the hypothetical nature of this design study. We may not be entirely sold on the Cross Hub’s cyborg-like looks—but, considering the relatively gargantuan size of today’s so-called mid-size pickups, we do like the idea of a true compact truck that’s as usable as this one.

Star Saver will have you dragging the ravenous Prince of the Galaxy around, having him devour enemies, items, and anything else that gets in the way of you saving the missing stars. Doing so will let him change shape into handy items, making him a useful companion for helping out the galaxy.

You know, that thing he should be ruling and saving WITHOUT you hauling him around by a chain. Lazy rulership, the galaxy has.

Star Saver will have you dragging the galactic prince around by controlling Squidly, who hauls the prince around using a chain. It sounds odd, but the prince doesn’t really seem to mind, as he appears to enjoy rushing at things and eating them. He’ll then shift into those things, like keys, stars, boxes, or other odd items, and it’s up to you to use those things in physics puzzles or combat as you leap through the game’s surreal levels.

You’re also free to explore Star Saver. The game offers an open world for you to tackle however you like, using the prince’s varied eating powers to go down the roads you want. Although, maybe making the decision to have the prince eat so many of his subjects is a bad one no matter which path you take. Still, at least it will look funny as you devour everyone under your rule.

Maybe you’re not the best person to oversee the prince after all.
