This week AMC announced that Chris Hardwick would be reinstated as a host of Talking Dead, the Walking Dead aftershow that follows new episodes of the series and the spin-off Fear the Walking Dead. He’d been put on hiatus following ex-girlfriend Chloe Dysktra’s essay on Medium detailing the emotional and sexual abuse she suffered under an ex-boyfriend others inferred to be Hardwick.
Following the accusation where Hardwick wasn’t specifically named, he denied the claims made about him but chose not to moderate Comic-Con panels amidst the controvery. It seemed like Hardwick might be finished until AMC announced Hardwick’s return this week in press release saying they concluded an investigation into Dysktra’s accusation.
However, legal analysts on social media shared that the law firm conducting the investigation, Loeb & Loeb, also represented the Hearst corporation on a number of matters. Coincidentally enough, Hardwick married into that family when he wed Lydia Hearst, and that rubbed people the wrong way. Since AMC presented panels to the Television Critics Association on Saturday, I found President and General Manager of AMC Networks Charlie Collier and asked him if he thought Loeb & Loeb representing Hearst in other cases struck him as a conflict of interest. Find out what he had to say below.
“We, from the start, took it very seriously and made sure we had a third party to validate,” Collier said. “Ivy [Kagan Bierman], the attorney from Loeb & Loeb, had had experience in that realm.”
I was halfway through asking if they were concerned celebrity guests might refuse to do the show if they have remaining concerns about Hardwick. At that point, additional AMC executives came over to say they had no further comment beyond what they released this week. Understandable. I did not expect to get one answer, considering executives did not take questions during the panel.
Further questions still remain after Chris Hardwick’s reinstatement. Is Hardwick’s other talk show Talking reinstated too? The second season premiere was axed after these accusations surfaced. Are Walking Dead stars contractually obliged to appear on the aftershow if they don’t want to? If a Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead star objected to appearing with Hardwick, would they be allowed to take such a stand? These are all questions that need answers.
As for Chloe Dykstra, she tweeted this out on Thursday in an effort to put the matter behind her:
I originally wrote my essay so I could move on with my life, and now I intend to do so. Thank you, again, to those who have supported me during this. pic.twitter.com/sjBEKGpY7v

In short, she only wrote the Medium essay to move on from the abusive period of her life and now she will do so. She said she did not wish to ruin her ex’s career, though wish he’d had a private conversation with her. Further, she did not provide further details to the investigation.
Does this talk of a third party being part of the investigation do anything to quell concerns and accusations about Chris Hardwick seemingly getting his position at AMC back? We’ll see how the public reacts to his return to the air when the time comes.

The Chris Hardwick fallout continues: Yvette Nicole Brown will temporarily replace Hardwick as host of AMC’s popular Talking Dead post-show when it returns next month, our sister site Variety is reporting.
“Yvette Nicole Brown will step in as an interim guest host of The Walking Dead Season 9 Preview Special on August 5 and Talking Dead when it returns following the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead on August 12,” the network said in a statement, “as we work to complete our assessment related to Chris Hardwick.”
Just before the weekend, comedian and television personality Chris Hardwick had some serious allegations tossed his way when ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra penned a detailed and disturbing essay laying out his pattern of emotional and sexual abuse throughout their three-year relationship. For his part, Chris Hardwick denied these allegations in an official statement, but that hasn’t stopped AMC from taking action while they “assess the situation.”
AMC has pulled their post-The Walking Dead talk show Talking Dead, which is hosted and produced by Chris Hardwick, from their schedule. Furthermore, the network says the comedian and host is stepping down from moderating panels for both AMC and BBC America at San Diego Comic-Con next month.
Immediately following the revelation of these allegations, the entertainment and geek news site Nerdist founded by Chris Hardwick removed any reference to his name and association with the outlet. Hardwick was believed to still be CEO of Nerdist, but according to owner Legendary Digital Networks, he had no operational involvement for two years leading up to his contract expiration in December 2017.
It remains to be seen if AMC will be taking any further action by ending their professional relationship with Chris Hardwick, who also has his own celebrity talk show on the network called Talking with Chris Hardwick. This is a decision that will likely come after AMC assesses the situation, though we’re not entirely sure what that means they’ll be looking into.
Meanwhile, NBC is in the midst of considering what to do about the renewal of their game show The Wall, which Hardwick hosts and produces for the network. It sounds like NBC will also be similarly assessing the situation as the network released a statemtn saying, “We are continuing to assess the situation and will take appropriate action based on the outcome.” Production on The Wall doesn’t resume until September, so they have time to sort things out.
Otherwise, other parts of the entertainment world are reacting in similar fashion as The New York Times reports Kaaboo, a comedy and music festival happening in September in Del Mar, California, has pulled Chris Hardwick from their line-up. More than likely, other comedy venues and festivals will follow suit.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding this particular accusation. For our part, we believe victims when they come forward with allegations like this, and we denounce any form of discrimination, harassment or abuse. We’ll continue to update you as the fallout from this situation becomes more clear.

Chris Hardwick has responded to allegations of sexual assault and emotional abuse by his ex-girlfriend, TV personality and host Chloe Dykstra.
“These are very serious allegations and not to be taken lightly which is why I’ve taken the day to consider how to respond,” said the AMC personality and comedian in a statement to Deadline late Friday. “I was heartbroken to read Chloe’s post. Our three-year relationship was not perfect — we were ultimately not a good match and argued — even shouted at each other — but I loved her, and did my best to uplift and support her as a partner and companion in any way and at no time did I sexually assault her.”See the rest of the story at Business Insider

The 42 year old lives on the outskirts of Leeds. “I don’t have any lines to learn on a Friday night, so it’s a nice relaxing time for my brain! I’ll usually order an Indian takeaway so I don’t have to do any cooking, have a beer or two, or a gin and tonic, depending on what mood I’m in, and then I’ll see what’s on television.
I always like to catch up on Emmerdale and I was a sucker for Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year. If there’s nothing on that I fancy, Netflix is my go-to, but my eyes are shutting by 10.30pm; if I’m watching a film it’s very rare that I get to the end of it!
“Saturdays are all about family, so the mornings start very early as I’ll often be on auntie duties! I take my eight-year-old niece Lydia to her swimming lesson at 9am and then I go and watch my six-year-old nephew Daniel playing football around mid-morning.
“I’m the mad auntie screaming from the side of the pitch – I’m so competitive it’s ridiculous! I do think that one of these days I’ll be asked to leave.
“My mum works on Saturdays, so I’ll probably go round and have a spot of lunch with my dad. In the afternoon, I’ll meet my friends for coffee and cake.
“If I’m going out on a Saturday night I’ll have a shower and put Spotify on. I’ll blast some tunes out and dance round my bedroom while I’m getting ready. I’ll meet a group of girlfriends and we’ll either go to a local wine bar, or into Leeds, Manchester or Liverpool.
“I start Sunday morning with a lie-in, then I’ll put on Radio 2 and listen to Steve Wright and Elaine Page and sing my heart out while I’m doing my washing and housework. At lunchtime I’ll often go out for a carvery lunch with my family.
“Sunday afternoons are work time and I go through my lines. Then I’m free to just relax and enjoy my Sunday evening watching television.”

RICHMOND has an embarrassment of riches at its disposal ahead of its qualifying final clash with Geelong, but that leaves coach Damien Hardwick with plenty of selection headaches.
With hard man Josh Caddy ready to return from a hamstring injury, the Tigers have to decide who makes way for him — that is if they play him at all.

Lauren Wood said on the SuperFooty Podcast that Jacob Townsend — after booting 11 goals in two weeks — must play.
And Mark Robinson said that makes things hard for the Tigers’ selection committee.
“That’s a risk,” Robbo said.
“They brought Townsend in to play that role and if they bring him (Caddy) back in, they’re going to have two similar players, playing that one role.
“They might say, ‘hang on, we can’t play them both’. It might be Caddy or Jacob Townsend.”
Anthony Hudson said there was no doubt Townsend would line up.
Lauren believes Oleg Markov could be the Tiger to make way.
“I would think if anyone’s going to come out it’s going to be Oleg Markov,” she said.
“It’s going to be huge for Josh Caddy, he hasn’t played since round 21, coming up against his old team, particularly with a soft tissue injury.”

Jack Graham was also mentioned as someone who could make way.
Sam Landsberger said speedy goalsneak Shai Bolton put his hand up in Richmond’s VFL elimination final win over Collingwood.
“Could he pinch Jason Castagna’s spot, or is he safe?” Sam said.
But Robbo believes the Tigers will stick with Castagna — who has played every game this season.
“I think they’d go with Castagna, because he’s been the player ahead of Bolton all year, I’d be surprised,” he said.
“But I saw Bolton play on the weekend in the VFL, he was just waltzing around players, like they didn’t exist.”

The actress, who left the ITV soap in 2015, revealed that filming circumstances almost meant that she stayed on a bit longer.
Fans will remember that the loveable character was brutally killed in a hall of mirrors when she was fatally pierced by a large pane of glass.
The 56-year-old explained: “They had to mock up a guillotine and it took so long they had to call time.
“We tried twice and then they had to schedule in another day and when they tried it a third time, it didn’t work again!
“I stood up and said, ‘That’s it – it’s a reprieve, I’m not going to die’,” Charlie revealed.
The northern actress also added that she felt she could not watch her death scenes for “ages” after her Emmerdale exit, saying it was too hard.
However, she is glad in a way that she has left the show as she has now moved on to enjoy a successful theatre career.
“It was my decision to go, but I didn’t know it was going to be like that,” Charlie joked.
She continued: “I miss the people but [I’m happy now], I’m doing theatre.”

AFL: Was this a deliberate rushed behind?

“RELIEVED” was the word used by Richmond coach Damien Hardwick to describe his emotions after his side finally closed out a close encounter at the MCG.
Following on from three weeks of heartbreak in which it lost by less than a kick, the Tigers last night defeated Essendon by 15 points in a game that hung in the balance until the dying minutes.
The scoreboard probably flattered the Bombers in a contest played in front of a huge crowd of 85,656, with the Tigers wasteful in front of goal in the 11.15 (81) to 10.6 (66) win.

But after being pipped by late goals against Fremantle and Greater Western Sydney in the last two weeks, Hardwick was just happy to get the win.
“Our effort, as I’ve said over the majority of the weeks that we played in those close losses, has been pretty good,” Hardwick said.
“I though tonight was good reward for our players but also our fans who have been through a tough stint as well.”

After the manner in which it lost the last three weeks Hardwick said he accepted that people wanted to put a “negative slant” on his team’s form.
“That’s how we are. But we try and look at the positives and 80 per cent of our footy has been fantastic this year,” he said.
“The template we’re playing with, the amount of time the ball has been in our forward 50.
“There’s some areas we can certainly improve, and unfortunately we’ve lost those close games and that’s all anyone speaks about, but we know our best is good enough.”
Asked what needed to improve most to take his side to the next level, Hardwick conceded a young Tigers forward line needed to convert more of its forward 50 forays in to goals.
“We had 52 forward half turnovers, which is an enormous number.

“We just couldn’t quite get the scoreboard reward we were after.
“It generally happens that they’ve got numbers back, they can’t get out but we couldn’t get a clear passage to score.
“A bit like a soccer game, when you have that you generally get caught up in the counter attack and can be a little bit frustrating at stages.
“But I thought overall we should have been more comfortable.”
Controversy blew up in the shadows of half time when Jayden Short was adjudged to have deliberately rushed a behind when under pressure from Josh Green while the pair tracked back a bouncing ball towards the goalsquare.
Hardwick said he felt the decision was wrong.
“Was he under pressure?
“I think they made a mistake, end of story. It’s tough, you’ve got 85,000 people yelling one way or another. I’d rather be playing than umpiring.”

AFL: Richmond have lost in heartbreaking fashion once again to GWS.

Damien Hardwick searches for answers.
RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick says he is proud of his players after another heartbreaking defeat.
The Tigers led by as much as 31 points against GWS and were 25 points in front at three-quarter time only to see the Giants kick 5.3 to 0.5 in the last quarter to pinch an unlikely victory.
NOT AGAIN: ‘ONLY RICHMOND COULD OUT-RICHMOND RICHMOND’
THE MATCH: TIGER TRAGEDY 2: MORE HEARTBREAK
“It’s tough. It’s heartbreaking,” Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said after his side lost a third-straight match by less than a goal.
“You can look at it both ways. We’ve lost to the Bulldogs by a kick; we’ve lost to GWS by a kick. I walk away as a coach incredibly proud of our boys … they battled as hard as they could for as long as they could.
“We should have won.”

Debutant Shai Bolton looked to have kicked the sealer late.
Both sides were back in the middle for a centre bounce when video officials judged Bolton’s snap to have been touched off the boot by fellow first-gamer Harry Perryman.
Nathan Wilson took the kick-in and the Giants rushed the ball straight to Jeremy Cameron, who kicked truly.
“We let ourselves down badly with that last play and that’s all you get remembered for, unfortunately,” Hardwick said.
“It’s not my job to run the score review. I wish I did.
“We’ll certainly focus on that last play, that last couple of minutes. “You learn a lot from these sort of losses.”
The Tigers could only blame themselves for the staggering surrender. They managed just 4.14 after kicking 6.1 early, with Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin missing set shots they’d so often convert.
GWS counterpart Leon Cameron, whose side toppled Collingwood last week in similar thrilling fashion, praised his players’ character for staging a fightback after playing poorly for most of the match.
“We didn’t play well. Richmond should have won. They were better than us throughout the game,” Cameron said.
“We were in front for a minute out of 120. It’s a ruthless game … you need a little bit of luck.
“We’ve got a good, steely resolve which is pleasing. It’s very hard to train.”
The comeback was all the more meritorious — or miserable if you’re a Richmond supporter — because GWS big man Rory Lobb was out of action for most of the second half.
