Cash-strapped Zimbabwe has reportedly offered a $ 10 million payout to deposed President Robert Mugabe, while his wife will receive a generous pension after his death, and his children’s businesses won’t be touched by the incoming administration.

“The government will give him a $ 5 million lump sum and then the remainder to be paid out in instalments,” a source told the Zimbabwe Independent, whose report has since been confirmed by other media outlets. “Mugabe will also enjoy full medical cover as well as his full monthly salary. In the event of his death, his wife will be given half [his monthly salary].”

Mugabe, 93, currently receives a $ 150,000 annual pension, which will be partly inherited by his 52-year-old second wife Grace Mugabe, who is pejoratively known as “Gucci Grace” among some Zimbabweans. The two are expected to stay in the Blue Roof mansion in Harare, with the state still paying all travel, security and staff expenses for the couple.

The property of both of Mugabe’s children, and his wife’s son Russell from a previous marriage “will not be seized or in any way molested,” the Guardian reports. Mugabe’s extended family owns a range of dairy farms, and has notable interests in the country’s mining industry.

“I was worried about what the changes would mean for me personally, but I am now reassured that I can live on in my country,” one of Mugabe’s relatives, who did not wish to make his name public, told the publication. 

Despite opposition protests that no politician should be above the law, Mugabe and his family have also been granted immunity from any legal prosecution for his actions during his 37 years in office.

The Zimbabwe Independent stated that it was the protracted negotiations between the ailing Mugabe’s mediators, including a prominent Jesuit priest, and the military faction that has seized power that held up his resignation in the past weeks, rather than any desire on the part of the president to remain in his post.

The interim president, the 75-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was a close Mugabe ally and henchman for decades, has promised to avoid “vengeful retribution” against the toppled ruling clan, and has vowed to stage a democratic election next year.

According to IMF statistics, Zimbabwe’s GDP per capita puts it outside the world’s 150 wealthiest states, while its life expectancy of 60 years is 20 years below that of the US. It is estimated that some 13.5 percent of the population are infected with HIV.

  • President Donald Trump was faced with a difficult handshake at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Manila on Sunday.

After initial confusion about a complicated handshake at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Manila on Sunday, President Donald Trump sorted himself out and got really into it.

The summit, attended by heads of state from all around Asia to focus on security and economic issues within the world’s most populous region, features a signature, crossed-arms handshake between heads of state.

Trump has had unusual interpretations of handshakes in the past, but he appeared initially thrown by the variation. Trump initially took both hands to shake Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s right hand before detecting Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s left. Trump awkwardly corrected, but then beamed broadly after completing the task.

Though the photo was mocked on social media, it was mainly just people laughing at a funny picture of the president. 

 

Comedian Jon Benjamin pointed out that Trump looks to be doing the “truck face,” or the face he made when he got in a big rig earlier in his presidency.

Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge courtesy of Alvaro Morata’s 55th minute header.

In a fairly dull affair, one of the biggest talking points at full-time was the lack of handshake between the two bosses.

Mourinho and Conte have endured a frosty relationship over the last few months and there was certainly no love lost between them at Stamford Bridge.

After the game the pair both decided not to shake hands but Mourinho insists it was because the Italian disappeared.

Asked if he eventually got to shake Conte’s hand, Mourinho said: “No. He disappeared.

“So I shook to his assistants, which for me is basically the same.”

Conte also tried to downplay the incident but suggested he did not need to show his counterpart respect away from the pitch.

“It’s not important. It’s important to win the game,” Conte said.

“You have to have the respect on the pitch not outside the pitch.

“At the end of the match I went to shake the hands of the officials and then my players. If I shake someone’s hand twice I think it’s enough.”

Donald Trump shook his wife’s hand at an event at at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

The 72-year-old attended the army base with former-model Melania.

After Melania introduced her husband the president thanked her with a handshake and directed her offstage. 

Many online commentators seemed to find the choice of formal greeting strange for a couple.

TV personality Grant Stern posted on Twitter: “Nothing says I love you my wife like a firm handshake and false pleasantries.”

A body language expert has given their view on what the handshake really meant exclusively to Express.co.uk. 

Judi James, a body language expert, claimed Donald Trump’s way of addressing his wife looked like an interaction between a beauty pageant host and contestant.

“This greeting ritual with Melania shows both husband and wife snap into a greeting and dismissing ritual that would have looked more at home in a beauty pageant of the 1970s,” Judi said.

She added: “Trump’s handshake is oddly formal but add in the patronising smile and head tilt and it is very Miss World host.”

This may not be a coincidence as Donald Trump owned the Miss Universe pageant franchise.

Judi added: “Melania turns to go, becoming rigid and uber formal as she attempts to walk away and it’s the gentle but unpleasant-looking shove from her husband that suggests the kind of  dismiss signal you might get if she’d just announced her bid for the title and walked away after losing out on the sash and crown.”

The rather old-fashioned ritual between the pair might show that US president is not as comfortable onstage as he seems.

Judi added: “If these two are snapping into retro mode under pressure it could imply that Trump is a lot less confident on stage than he would like us to believe.”

Meania has somewhat changed her image during her time in the limelight.  

Express.co.uk spoke to a selection of surgeons and experts about the surgery they believe Melania has undergone to change her look – and how much she has spent on it.

Dr. Dev Patel, medical director of Perfect Skin Solutions in Portsmouth, estimated Melania’s cosmetic transformation ahead of becoming the First Lady would likely cost anywhere between £10,000-£12,000 in the UK.

BROCK Osweiler’s days with the Browns were numbered when the quarterback arrived in a trade.

They’re now over.

Osweiler is being released by Cleveland, which will have to pay his $ 16 million guaranteed contract not to have him on their roster, a person familiar with the team’s moves told The Associated Press on Friday (US time).

The quarterback arrived at the Browns – a battling NFL franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs in 14 seasons – in a flagrant and unprecedented salary dump, having flopped with the Texans after signing a $ 72 million contract.

Osweiler will be officially cut on Saturday along with veteran guard John Greco, kicker Cody Parkey and defensive lineman Xavier Cooper when the team trims its roster to 53 on Saturday, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team is still finalising its roster decisions.

The 26-year-old Osweiler was acquired by the Browns on March 9 from Houston, for a 2018 second-round and a 2017 sixth-round draft pick, while Cleveland sent a 2017 fourth-round pick back to the Texans. The Browns did not have any long-term plans for Osweiler, who went 8-6 as a starter for the Texans last season after arriving from the Denver Broncos in March last year.

However, because of his large contract, the Browns were unable to unload Osweiler and he competed for their starting job this summer. It was flagged from the outset that Osweiler was likely to be cut, in a deal that amounted to the Browns paying for a better shot in the draft.

Osweiler was beaten out by rookie DeShone Kizer, who will be the 27th starting quarterback for Cleveland since 1999 when the team opens against Pittsburgh on September 10.

On a conference call earlier in the day, Browns coach Hue Jackson said the team had not made any decision on Osweiler.

“We will think about that as we go,” Jackson said when asked if the team will add a veteran QB if Osweiler is cut.

“I just think when it is all said and done, you have to make sure you keep the best players that you feel that can help you win. Experience is important, but at the same time, I think talent level and where we are and what we are trying to accomplish is important, too.”

With Osweiler leaving, it appears the Browns will also keep quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan behind Kizer.

Parkey lost his job to rookie Zane Gonzalez, a seventh-round draft pick. Gonazlez may have sealed Parkey’s fate when he connected on a 53-yard field goal in Thursday’s exhibition win at Chicago.

Parkey joined the Browns in Week 3 last season after Patrick Murray injured his knee in practice. Parkey missed three of six field-goals in his debut — he only met his holder and snapper in pre-game warm-ups — but recover to make 17 of his next 19 attempts.

Greco spent six seasons with Cleveland, joining the team in 2012 after spending three seasons with St. Louis. The well-respected 32-year-old made 66 starts for the Browns. He missed the final four games last season after tearing a foot ligament and undergoing surgery.

Cooper was drafted by the Browns in the third round in 2015. He started two games last season.

Donald Trump, 71, and Vladimir Putin, 64, met in Hamburg today in what Trump called a “very good” development.

He told reporters: “President Putin and I have been discussing various things and I think it’s going very well. 

“We’ve had some very, very good talks. We’re going to have a talk now and obviously, that will continue.

“But we look forward to a lot of very positive things happening for Russia for the United States and everybody concerned.”

But while words communicate one thing, often actions say another.

A body language expert appeared on Sky to talk viewers through some of the thoughts and feelings that are possibly going through the minds of the two world leaders.

The expert claimed both men were doing their utmost to express their masculinity in their physical actions.

He said: “Right from the outset what you are going to see here are the two men sat with their legs splayed apart, knees wide apart, manspreading and really enforcing their manliness and their authority.” 

The physical power play was evident between the two men, according to the expert, with Putin taking measures to appear a strong and capable leader.

The expert said: “Notice also that Putin has his elbows stretched out, thereby trying to increase his apparent size – size is very important when it comes to political leadership.”

However, it was the handshake between the two men that was most revealing, according to the body language expert.

He said: “There are three ways you can shake hands with somebody, one way would be with your hand facing down, taking command of the situation, dominating them. 

“The other is presenting your palm up, being subordinate.”

He continued: “What we find here is that Trump actually offers his hand palm up twice.

“What he appears to be doing is putting himself in a subordinate position – thereby making Putin feel more more important.”

A body language expert revealed to Express.co.uk what happened when British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel shared what appeared to be a friendly exchange ahead of the G20 Summit meeting with European Union leaders.

PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron says his now famous white-knuckle handshake showdown with U.S. counterpart Donald Trump was “a moment of truth” — designed to show that he’s no pushover.

Macron told a Sunday newspaper in France that “my handshake with him, it wasn’t innocent.”

Macron added: “One must show that you won’t make small concessions, even symbolic ones, but also not over-publicize things, either.”

Macron’s office confirmed to The Associated Press the veracity of the president’s comments in Le Journal du Dimanche.

At their first meeting, ahead of a NATO summit in Brussels on Thursday, the two men locked hands for so long that knuckles started turning white. The French leader held the shake for a few seconds more. Both men’s jaws seemed to clench.

And the TV chef’s legendary potty-mouth appears to be famous at even the highest echelons of society.

The 50-year-old star joked the Queen gave him a “handshake and polite f**k off” after he was handed his OBE.

Ramsay was questioned on Friday about the honour, which he received in Scotland in 2006, by Late Show host Stephen Colbert.

When asked if the occasion amounted to a “sword situation”, the Kitchen Nightmares star responded: “No, that’s when you get knighted.

“OBE is under that so it’s sort of a little handshake and a polite f**k off.

“She sort of mutters it under her breath.”

Colbert revealed guests are not typically allowed to use the F-word on the Late Show, but broadcaster CBS made an exception for Ramsay.

But this did not wash with the foul-mouthed chef, who responded: “At 11:35 at a f**king night?!”

Later in the clip, the star gushed about Gordon’s food, exclaiming: “This is f***ing good.”

“Of course it’s gonna be f***ing good,” the famously potty-mouthed chef replied, before Kevin chipped in: “Alright, I’m just saying it’s f***ing, f***ing, f***ing good!”
