Industry informant Evan Blass aka @evleaks shared images of the device on Twitter, detailing that the gaming handheld would have a focus on Google Play games, which could suggest Android compatibility. Additionally, the device is expected to stream “games from cloud services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now,” according to Tom’s Hardware.

Logitech, having never had a product leaked before, apparently panicked at the sudden attention and DMCA'ed that gaming handheld. https://t.co/2ddCmFvvOY

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) August 30, 2022

However, Logitech sent Blass a copyright strike, and the images were ultimately removed from Twitter, but not before they were screen-capped and saved by other publications and enthusiasts.

Logitech announced earlier this month, its plans to collaborate with Tencent Games on a “cloud gaming handheld,” which it plans to launch later this year.

From the leak, we see a white device with dark joysticks, edges, and triggers. The handheld includes an upper joystick and D-pad to the left, and Y, X, B, A buttons and a middle joystick to the right. Currently, other details, such as the dimensions of the device and the size of the display remain unknown; however, some of those details might also leak over time.

Despite Blass’ connecting the handheld to Google Play games, there is also no confirmation as to whether it will run Android as an operating system.

Tom’s Hardware noted that Android smartphones have a solid lock on gaming, as do Windows-run devices such as the Steam Deck or actual video game handle systems like the Nintendo Switch. This makes it difficult to see where a potentially Android-run Logitech gaming handheld that is not a phone might fit into the gaming space.

Whenever Logitech’s handheld releases, it can be certain to have competition from Valve, which recently confirmed in a free booklet that it has future Steam Deck models and SteamOS versions in the works.

 • The Army is developing handheld devices that will be able to stream live footage from friendly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), giving soldiers a real-time aerial view of the battlefield.
 • The non-handheld version of the system, called the One System Remote Video Terminal (OSRVT), is already in place on a number of vehicles and is operated across the Army.
 • Previously, drone footage had to be linked through laptops or computer screens, forcing soldiers to carry larger equipment into battle.

The Army and Textron Systems are developing a lightweight portable One System Remote Video Terminal (OSRVT) that allows dismounted soldiers to view real-time nearby drone video feeds using a modified frequency.

OSRVTs have been in combat with the Army since 2007. They are integrated into vehicle platforms such as Stryker vehicles, allowing infantry to view feeds and control sensor payloads from nearby drones while on the move.

Imagine if you could make your own games for the Nintendo 3DS. That’s some of the idea behind Pip, a “playful handheld” based on the Raspberry Pi do-it-yourself computer. You can use it to create and play your own video games.

Curious Chip, an educational technology startup, is launching a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign today for Pip. The handheld Curious Chip is aimed at kids, adults, tinkerers, Makers, creators, and educators. The company founded by Jason Frame and Sukhvir Dhillion wants to raise $ 65,500 in the campaign.

The project has support from Eben Upton, founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, which makes that inexpensive, open-source computer dubbed the Raspberry Pi. With Pip, you’ll be able to play games ranging from Snake to Pac-Man and Minecraft. You can also delve into the code and learn how to make your own games. You could do things like bring a Lego car to life or create an app that senses when your plants are thirsty, Curious Chip said.

Above: Pip is based on a Raspberry Pip.

The platform is open and it runs a version of Linux on top of a Raspberry Pi computer. It gets kids started with drag-and-drop programming, and then lets them move on toward real programming.

“Pip is the handheld device that puts digital creation in your pocket,” the company said. “Being able to create, control and invent with technology is like a superpower. We created Pip so that anyone can tinker with technology.”

Pip uses Curiosity’s own programming environment, and it has access to a lot of tutorials and projects with step-by-step instructions. It will help teach users to code in
multiple languages (Javascript, Python, Lua, PHP, and HTML/CSS). You can tinker with the hardware easily. You can plug in a moisture sensor to check on plants, or hook up a proximity sensor to make an alarm.

The best handheld vacuum https://briefnews.eu/the-best-handheld-vacuum/ https://briefnews.eu/the-best-handheld-vacuum/#respond Sun, 17 Sep 2017 16:20:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-best-handheld-vacuum/

By Liam McCabe

This post was done in partnership with The Sweethome, a buyer’s guide to the best homewares. When readers choose to buy The Sweethome’s independently chosen editorial picks, it may earn affiliate commissions that support its work. Read the full article here.

We’ve looked at 50 different hand vacuums over nearly 100 collective hours of research and testing in the past five years, and think that the Black+Decker Max Lithium Flex Vacuum BDH2020FL is a great pick for most people. The flexible 4-foot hose and clip-on attachments help it comfortably reach spots around your home and car that other hand vacs at this price struggle with, or can’t touch at all.

Who should get this

The most compelling reason to buy a good handheld vacuum is because it can reach places that bigger vacuums can’t, like the interior of a car or surfaces around your house that aren’t the floor. Handheld vacuums are also convenient for quick cleanups around the house because they’re battery-powered and compact enough to sit on a shelf or countertop between uses.

How we picked and tested

group

We’ve researched about 50 models since we started covering this category, searching for a handheld vacuum that made tidying small messes—or messes where a regular vacuum couldn’t easily reach—as easy as possible. We looked for the following criteria:

 • An 18-volt battery or greater. More voltage does not necessarily mean more cleaning power, but 18 volts is a good baseline for decent suction.
 • A lithium or lithium-ion battery.
 • Attachments or at least extensions for easy cleaning of tricky materials and hard-to-reach areas.
 • Strong user ratings of at least four out of five stars on average.
 • Battery life and recharge time, though most vacuums have enough juice that this is a nonissue.

I tested the contenders around the house for a few weeks, mainly for everyday tasks like picking up random tufts of cat hair, cleaning crumbs off countertops or the kitchen floor, and tidying my car after moving sports equipment—most of the typical uses for handheld vacuums, in other words—to get a feel for the real-world pros and cons. Sometimes I used two contenders side by side for these cleanups to see a more direct comparison.

I also set up an informal test to gauge suction. I poured out six lines of coffee grounds on a countertop, used each finalist to suck up one line each, and then made notes on how easily each model accomplished that task.

Our pick

The Black+Decker Max Lithium Flex Vacuum BDH2020FL is our favorite handheld vacuum because the flexible 4-foot hose and clip-on attachments help it reach and clean awkward spots around your home and car where other handhelds struggle. The suction is strong enough to handle most common types of debris. It has a 16-minute, no-fade run time, which should be enough to give most cars a thorough tidy-up, and its 20-volt battery offers plenty of suction for most household jobs.

The Max Flex Vac’s hose accepts attachments and comes with three tools: A combo tool, a crevice tool, and a pet-hair brush. The combo tool has bristles that can help grab clingy particles. The crevice tool is helpful as a wand extender, but it also makes it easier to get in tight nooks and crannies. If you’re a pet owner, the pet-hair brush is also a big help. It’s nothing fancy, just a rubbery surface with nubs, but it does help corral fuzz in a way that most handhelds struggle with. Once you’re done cleaning, the Max Flex Vac’s dirt canister is easy to empty: Pull a latch on the side of the vacuum’s body, tip it toward the garbage can, give it a whack, and you’re done.

Of course, the Max Flex Vac has flaws. There’s the price: It often costs $ 120, which is a lot for a handheld vacuum, but we think that the Flex Vac’s versatility and solid suction make it worth the price for people who will use it a few times per week. We also noticed the filter gets dirty very quickly, which can cause drop-offs in suction as quickly as two battery cycles. This is a common problem with most handheld vacuums, so you’ll need to be diligent about knocking the dust loose.

An almost-identical runner-up

The Black+Decker Max Flex Vac BDH2020FLFH is the same vacuum as our main pick, with the same useful clip-on attachments, plus an extension wand and floor tool to turn it into an ersatz stick vacuum. Though the floor-cleaning kit sounds like a good value, it’s actually totally worthless, because the suction becomes too weak by the time it reaches the end of the extension wand to be useful at all. We recommend buying whichever version of the Max Flex Vac costs less when you’re shopping.

A budget pick for quick cleanups

black+decker chv1410l

The Black+Decker CHV1410L is a typical DustBuster-style handheld, with a better battery than most others at this price. Photo: Liam McCabe

If you need a regular DustBuster-style handheld for quick cleanups, buy the Black+Decker CHV1410L. It’s a perennial best-seller, and one of the most affordable vacuums with a strong lithium battery. In our testing, the CHV1410L had no trouble sucking up crumbs and dirt off of bare surfaces like countertops, tile floors, and windowsills. Though the 16-volt battery is smaller than our top pick’s battery, we found the CHV1410L was about as effective for small cleanups. We clocked a 12-minute run time, but have heard reports of shorter life spans.

The main downside is that the CHV1410L can’t clean carpet or upholstery effectively. Debris clings to fabric, and the CHV1410L has neither the suction to offset the clinging, nor any tool that can agitate debris out from the fibers. Also, because the CHV1410L has no hose, cleaning the kinds of odd angles that our main pick excels at is a hassle.

The most cleaning power

dyson v6

Photo: Liam McCabe

If you’re willing to pay for the strongest handheld vacuum possible, get the Dyson V6 Car + Boat. It has much more suction by a wide margin than any other handheld vacuum we’ve tested, including our main pick. It also has more battery life than its competitors, with a run time of 20 minutes. Several V6 variants are available, but we think that the Car + Boat has the best set of attachments. The V6 Car + Boat is very expensive, and probably overkill for most people, but no other handheld vacuums comes close to its power and versatility.

The Car + Boat comes with a flexible extension hose (like the one built into our main pick), crevice tool, combo brush, stiff-bristle brush, soft-dusting brush, and a mini motorized brush roll. The mini brush roll is especially useful because it lets the V6 pick up the kind of clingy debris that every other handheld we tested left behind. If you don’t think you’ll need all the attachments included with the V6 Car + Boat, consider the V6 Top Dog instead. It costs a little less most of the time, but still comes with the mini motorized brush roll.

Nintendo games news: Terrifying handheld application raising Nintendo Switch owner pulses https://briefnews.eu/nintendo-games-news-terrifying-handheld-application-raising-nintendo-switch-owner-pulses/ https://briefnews.eu/nintendo-games-news-terrifying-handheld-application-raising-nintendo-switch-owner-pulses/#respond Sun, 28 May 2017 04:57:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nintendo-games-news-terrifying-handheld-application-raising-nintendo-switch-owner-pulses/

The Nintendo Switch boasts a series of modes that aren’t available on the rival PS4, Xbox One, or even Mini NES Classic.

While the battery life of handheld mode might not be the best, it still gives fans a chance to play their favourite games while on the move.

And now a slightly new terrifying application of that special handheld mode has been shown off, taking it to its most extreme conclusion.

NEWS: NINTENDO SWITCH GAMES LIST’S LATEST MEGA-HIT CONFIRMED

A new mock ad has been put together for the Nintendo Switch, pushing the limits to even what the Japanese games giant would do.

Russian YouTube channel Юз has created a new video, featuring the Nintendo Switch, bananas and playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on rooftops and even in the sky.

It starts off with two friends playing the NES, before moving onto the new console and taking it where no other consoles can go.

It seems likely that the part involving skydiving didn’t involve actual gameplay running live with Zelda Breath of the Wild, but it’s still a great way to show off what the console can do.

The Short Action Film with the Nintendo Switch was shot in Moscow, Russia by Valera Boluchevsky & Richard Chirkin and could be the one of top unofficial ads for handheld mode.

It follows news earlier this month that old NES cartridges are being used to smuggle in illegal goods to the United States.

But not just any old contraband, apparently 73 spiders had been hidden in old Famicom game cartridges, which were intercepted at the United States-Mexico border.

According to Mexican newspaper La Crónica de Hoy, 73 plastic tubes were found in the haul, all containing arachnid hosts.

The ten cartridges were intercepted at customs in Guadalajara International Airport earlier this week, with the packages heading for Hanover, Maryland.

Apart from the terrible cruelty being done to the spiders during the trip, it may also scare Nintendo Switch owners to think that their own console games include cartridges that may come from further afield then they know.

Fortunately for them, the Nintendo Switch games cartridges are nowhere near the same size as the original NES ones and hopefully there isn’t enough room in the cases either to perform the same trick.

A video of the spiders being uncovered in the Nintendo NES cartridges can be found below, it’s unclear what the authorities plan to do with the smuggled arachnids.

According to the Mexican media, the packages did not have the required documentation and were apparently flagged because of it.

Nintendo added a new family member to its handhelds today.

The Japanese company will launch a new 2DS XL handheld on July 28 in the U.S. for $ 150.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL system gives consumers a third choice of handheld systems, one that offers pricing and features that fit between the Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems. The Nintendo 2DS XL will launch on the same day as two big new games for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems: Hey! Pikmin and Miitopia.

“This new addition to Nintendo’s portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the hand-held market,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and chief operating officer, in a statement. “New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.”

The new system will be available in a stylish black/turquoise color, and will use the same size large screen found on New Nintendo 3DS XL systems. As the name of the new system implies, visuals will be displayed in 2D only.

The system is lighter but still packs the same processing power as New Nintendo 3DS XL, and has built-in near-field communication (NFC) to support for Amiibo cards and figures.

Travis is a handheld translator that works with over 80 languages https://briefnews.eu/travis-is-a-handheld-translator-that-works-with-over-80-languages/ https://briefnews.eu/travis-is-a-handheld-translator-that-works-with-over-80-languages/#respond Thu, 20 Apr 2017 15:33:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/travis-is-a-handheld-translator-that-works-with-over-80-languages/

We’re getting very close to a Babel fish era, where you can just stick something in your ear and converse fluently with any human on Earth. But in the meantime, we have our smartphones. Travis the Translator is a new project on Indiegogo that strips out most of the smartphone fluff to create a simple, portable translation device.

The device supports over 80 languages when it has a SIM in it, or a Wi-Fi connection, and 20 languages in offline mode. The creators of Travis have apparently partnered with several different companies to include the “best translation engines” for each language. Travis has a stripped-down UI for selecting what languages you’re trying to work with, and it can auto-detect languages, as well.

Unfortunately, right now the working demo of Travis is an extremely rough prototype, larger than a tablet — the handheld version is just a mockup. Of course, there’s nothing impossible about fitting this tech in the proposed form factor — again, smartphones exist — but it’s a little worrisome for an Indiegogo campaign that already requires a lot of faith.

So far Travis has raised well over its low-ball $ 80,000 funding goal. The team says they’ll start trial production soon, mass production in May or June, and deliver to backers by July, so maybe the device isn’t as far off as it looks, or maybe someone’s being a little naive. A retail launch is planned for winter of this year after “testing and learning” with initial users.

Nintendo Switch classic games update following 3DS successor handheld reports https://briefnews.eu/nintendo-switch-classic-games-update-following-3ds-successor-handheld-reports/ https://briefnews.eu/nintendo-switch-classic-games-update-following-3ds-successor-handheld-reports/#respond Sun, 12 Feb 2017 08:19:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nintendo-switch-classic-games-update-following-3ds-successor-handheld-reports/

While we already know that Nintendo Switch classic games are going to be supplied each month through the company’s new online subscription service, fans are also hoping to grab titles in other means too.

Those subscription games look set to only last around a month and will then be replaced by another every four-weeks.

While that system will probably work quite well for those titles that you may not want to be taking up vital space, fans also want to hear more about how the virtual console is going to shape up.

The latest reports suggest that more is set to be revealed very soon, a major news drop may even arrive later this week.

That’s because the new virtual console is supposed to be detailed two-weeks before the Nintendo Switch release date on March 3.

As these as just rumours, it’s worth taking them with a pinch of salt, however, the virtual console support is going to be a major source of fan interest.

Nintendo recently renewed a trademark for horror game Eternal Darkness, which suggests that the rumours of Gamecube Virtual Console support could be true.

The latest trademark was filed on December 20, just a month before the Nintendo Switch Tokyo event and a few months before the March release date.

The trademark refers to Eternal Darkness as downloadable software, which would further suggest that Gamecube releases are coming to the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo is also said to be working on bringing Gamecube versions of Super Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee to the Switch Virtual Console.

Nintendo Switch classic games are currently hot commodities, with the Nintendo Mini NES currently selling like hot cakes, mostly due to chronic stock shortages.

It follows reports of a possible Nintendo 3DS successor handheld being worked on for release in the future.

Nintendo recently commented that they work on new ideas all the time but it doesn’t necessarily mean that any prototype will make it to market.

Further to that point, here’s what general manager, Shinya Takahashi said during the recent Nintendo earnings briefing: “For Nintendo 3DS, we have been developing new software titles, so please look forward to them.

“As for your question about the next-generation portable game system, because Nintendo never stops thinking about and researching potential future video game systems, it is not a question of whether it may make sense to release some specific product in the future, and our answer should be that we are always engaged in researching and considering our next video game system.”

Recent reports have suggested that a new Nintendo 3DS successor is being worked on for a 2018 release, however, taking into account how many handhelds have been sold, it would seem prudent for Nintendo to continue to support the current model for a good time to come.

Since the upcoming Nintendo Switch is an amalgamation of the two, what does this mean for a dedicated handheld platform?

In an interview with Time, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima answered questions about the Switch and his time with the company. In regards to its handheld market, a successor to the 3DS is not in the works, but that doesn’t mean the end of Nintendo’s handhelds.

“We are not creating a successor to the 3DS right now,” Kimishima said in response to whether he believes in the two-screen approach. “We are, however, still thinking of portable systems. We are thinking of ways that we will be able to continue bringing portable gaming systems out, so yes, we are thinking of different ways to continue the portable gaming business.”

This should come as good news to many Nintendo fans who worried that they would continue to focus only on hybrid consoles. In the past, the company has called the Switch a “home console,” but it exists in a gray area. On one hand, this is the most powerful handheld console ever created, but this comes at the loss of significant battery life. Depending on the game, the Switch can run in handheld mode for two and a half to six hours. This means that when you travel with Nintendo’s newest device, expect to carry an AC adapter along for the ride.

More: Here’s every game we know you can play on the Nintendo Switch

Additionally, Kimishima spoke openly about the console’s development cycle. “We want Switch to sell for a long time, of course, and we hope it has really long legs,” said Kimishima. “That said, technology, of course, advances quickly, and so I’m not going to say that we have a team working on the next thing. But we obviously have people looking at new technologies and thinking of new ideas even now as we speak.”

For more insight about Kimishima’s time at Nintendo, check out the full interview.
