Kelvin Fletcher joined BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt to talk about his journey on the BBC show. So far, he has been consistently at the top of the leaderboard for his thrilling performances, but it seems it could be taking a toll on his body. 

Kelvin appeared just after Will Bayley was forced to withdraw from the competition following a nasty knee injury.  

After a clip of his dance performances aired to viewers, Naga was keen to know why the former Emmerdale star fell to the floor at the end of one of his routines.

She exclaimed: “When I see you slumped to your knees, I bet you are exhausted, aren’t you?”

The former soap star replied: “Yeah, you’ll know yourself that it’s pretty physically gruelling and mentally gruelling as well.”

He continued: “With rehearsing all week, not seeing anyone but your training partner and then you arrive at the weekends and you perform live in front of the nation. Even as a performer I get really nervous.”

The contestants spend almost everyday rehearsing to deliver an excellent performance during the Saturday live shows.

Kelvin is partnered with professional dancer Oti Mabuse and like the actor, wants to work as hard as possible to get far in the competition.

He said: “She’s great. We’ve got a very similar work ethic and we both want to get the best out of each other. She’s very funny as well and we have some great moments.”

The amateur dancer had only praise to sing of Oti and the rest of the Strictly professional dancers. 

Moving on, Charlie looked at his guest and sighed: “I’m no Strictly judge but you’re quite good right?”

A modest Kelvin said: “I’ve done alright. I think everyone has been amazing.” 

The BBC host then highlighted how Kelvin wowed fans with his Samba on the first week and came on top of the leaderboard with a total score of 32. 

Kelvin revealed that he didn’t have any dancing experience but started out as an eight-year-old. 

“Being an actor, having confidence and that willingness to lose your inhibitions,“ he explained.

He believes this is what helps him to perform in front of an audience.

He also admitted that he is still learning the various dance techniques and mistakes are often caught out by judges and avid strictly viewers. 

The soap star also spoke about his co-star Will Bayley’s decision to quit the show after he recently gained injuries. 

Speaking about the paralympian, he said: “It’s a great loss for the show. I’m gutted. Absolutely devastated.”

Naga asked Kelvin about how it felt to replace Jamie Lang who was injured before the show’s launch. 

He replied: “I didn’t know what to expect. It’s just been unfortunate for a lot of reasons for Jamie and Will as well.”

Vikander takes over from Angelina Jolie in the new film, which is released later this month.

It’s action-heavy film that required the Oscar winner to be on top of her game with her fitness.

Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine today, she admitted that she was nowhere near ready for all the gruelling stunts when she first took the role.

“I could not lift my own weight when I started this film – I [needed] to get this kind of physique,” she said.

“We talked about what I wanted to achieve. I started to work out three or four months before we started the shoot.

“I trained with some incredible women. They introduced me to boxing, MMA [Mixed Martial Arts], I did rock climbing and archery, swimming, cycling…

“It was really a wonderful experience. I was a dancer when I was a younger, I’ve always been intrigued by the physicality of making these kinds of films.”

But of maintaining her “8-pack”, she laughed: “It all goes away sadly, very quickly.”

The new Tomb Raider also stars Dominic West, Daniel Wu and Kirstin Scott-Thomas, and has its premiere in London tonight.

Jolie played Croft in two movies, back in 2001 and 2003.

Tomb Raider is out on March 16.

If there’s a good time to get the reigning A-League champions, it’s this weekend.

The Sky Blues go into the match after playing two hours of football on Tuesday night when they beat Adelaide United 2-1 in the FFA Cup final.

Star man Milos Ninkovic limped off in the 62nd minute, while player-of-the-match Adrian Mierzejewski is another who may struggle to back up.

“I’m pretty sure there are going to be a couple of changes to the Sydney team,” Roar coach John Aloisi said.

A Sydney FC spokesman remained hopeful that Ninkovic would play on Saturday night.

“We expect him to be fit at this stage and will closely monitor his progression over the coming days,” the spokesman said.

Sydney’s Brazilian striker Bobo, who scored his side’s extra-time winner on Tuesday, said it would be business as usual this weekend.

“We can take a lot of confidence from (the Cup final win) but we’ve still got a job to do on Saturday night and we look forward now to the next game,” Bobo said.

“We have two days of recovery [training] and then we’ll be ready for the A-League game (against the Roar),” he said.

It’s the second year in succession the Roar have been the next opponent of the FFA Cup winners.

Last season it was Melbourne City, who three days after beating Sydney 1-0 in the Cup decider were held to a 1-1 draw by the Roar at AAMI Park.

The Saturdays singer reveals she is so terrified of crashing out of the show ahead of the series highlight at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom that she is putting herself through the gruelling training to try to master the paso doble. 

Last weekend Mollie, 30, and her professional dance partner A J Pritchard were saved after being in the dance-off for the second week. 

Head judge Shirley Ballas sent JLS star Aston Merrygold and dance partner Janette Manrara home instead. 

Aston was a favourite to win, along with Debbie McGee and her partner Giovanni Pernice.  

“Making Blackpool would be an absolute dream, that’s why we’ve been putting in 12 hours a day to make this dance the best we could do,” said Mollie. 

She also denied rumours she and 22-year-old AJ are dating. 

“He’s got a beautiful face but I don’t fancy him,” she said.

The pair stood toe-to-toe for a marathon 4 hr 34 mins with no quarter given by either until finally Murray crumpled as Wawrinka launched the final lusty blows of a 6-7, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 victory.

For a while, though, it looked as though the top seed would not get anywhere near that far, as Wawrinka rattled off seven games in a row at the end of the second set and beginning of the third.

Murray is nothing but resilient and fought his way back into contention, winning that third set to regain the lead.

In the end, though, Wawrinka was simply too strong for him. Fans whooped with delight at each thunderous forehand or booming backhand and as valiantly as Murray tried to retrieve them, too often he was simply left staring at a cloud of dust.

The Scot had beaten Wawrinka in four sets at the same stage of the competition last year and once again tried to undo him with a plan conceived alongside coach Ivan Lendl on the practice courts.

Forget attack being the best form of defence, for Murray it was the other way around as he set about keeping Wawrinka as deep in his own court as possible and seeing what he could do from there.

Inevitably, there were plenty of winners that thumped into the barriers at the back of the court on either side. But there was a steady stream of unforced errors too, and all the time Murray could get the ball back in play, they became increasingly likely.

It is a high-risk strategy and one that few have the tools to try to implement. But Murray held his nerve and snatched the first set in the tie-break, the first the 32-year-old had lost in the entire tournament.

Wawrinka found that purple patch midway through the second set, and as giant blow landed after giant blow, if it had been a boxing match the referee might have been tempted to stop it.

Murray, though, is made of more resilient stuff. Having dusted himself down, Wawrinka began to punch himself out and then the war of attrition began again in earnest.

The Court Philippe Chatrier crowd, generally behind the 2015 French Open champion Wawrinka, responded when Murray whipped them up after one particularly remarkable ‘get’ towards the end of the third set. Quick hands, quick feet and a huge self-belief then earned Murray the vital final break.

Wawrinka responded, though. ‘Come on!’ he roared twice as he held onto a difficult service game midway through the fourth, all too aware of the pressure that was now being applied.

His most brilliant backhand yet, after a series of rapier-like parries and ripostes, saved him the trial by uncertainty of break points in the next service game.

Then as Murray served to remain in the set, Wawrinka decided to show he can defend as remarkably as the world no. 1.

A tie-break was as inevitable as it was welcome by the enthralled crowd. A fluffed Murray backhand gave Wawrinka the advantage at 4-2, and suddenly there were three set points to save. Wawrinka was having nothing of it, trashing a forehand hard into the clay, and we were into a fifth set.

The thud of that shot was still echoing around the arena as Wawrinka raced to a 4-0 lead in the decider with two breaks, the momentum very much with him.

Again, everything was coming off the middle of his racket and Murray’s robust defence was finally blown apart. Heavy-legged and bereft of ideas, Murray slumped to another break but seemed strangely calm as he stared at the abyss.

He sensed that realistically he was playing a man better suited to clay who hitting the ball as cleanly as he ever has. In the face of that, there was nothing even Murray could do.

Refusing to lie down, he conjured one final break in a last fit of defiant pride. The effort seemed to take the last fight out of him, however, and somewhat limply Murray watched as Wawrinka produced one final backhand down the line to draw the contest to a close.

Trailers for the film have shown the singer – whose solo album recently hit No1 – in his first movie acting role, and it looked incredibly tense.

His character was seen in the sea, gasping for air – leading fans to wonder if his character would even survive until the end.

Now, speaking to Little White Lies, he’s revealed: “A week before we started filming Emma [Thomas, the film’s producer] called me and said, ‘By the way, I forgot to ask… you can swim, right?’

“It was a relief to know I could because there was so much swimming involved.”

Unsurprisingly, it seems the sequences were very tough to shoot.

Styles recalled: “However much you train for it, filming in the water for an hour in full clothes is a gruelling experience.”

Director Christopher Nolan recently explained how Styles came to be part of the cast, revealing that he beat many other hopefuls to the role.

“When we put the cast together, we had some established names,” Nolan told the LA Times. “But for the guys on the beach, we really wanted young unknowns.

“He’s not that unknown, but he’d never done anything as an actor before. 

“So he auditioned. I auditioned literally thousands of young men with different combinations of young men. And he had it.”

Dunkirk is out on July 21.
