  • Foreign leaders attending Queen Elizabeth's funeral have been advised to fly commercial.
  • They have also been banned from using helicopters, according to documents obtained by Politico.
  • The Queen's funeral is set for September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London. 

Foreign leaders and their spouses attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in London on September 19 have been advised to fly to the UK on commercial flights and are banned from using helicopters, according to documents obtained by Politico.

The documents from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office were sent from the UK to embassies, the outlet reported. The FCDO anticipates the funeral service will be at capacity, so no more than one representative per country and their spouse will be invited to attend. 

The department said it "regrets that, because of limited space at the state funeral service and associated events, no other members of the principal guest's family, staff or entourage may be admitted."

The FCDO advised funeral attendees to fly commercial "where possible" because London Heathrow airport will not have private flight arrangements or aircraft parking, despite the airport normally accommodating private jets. The department also banned helicopter transfers between airports because of the volume of flights.

World leaders were also told they will be bussed in groups to the funeral at Westminster Abbey and cannot use their own state cars to attend the service, Politico reported.

One unnamed foreign ambassador sent a message to Politico reporters on WhatsApp on Sunday, saying: "Can you imagine Joe Biden on the bus?"

Preparing for an event like this also comes with security concerns. Next weekend's premier league soccer games might be postponed due to a lack of police resources that may be diverted to the funeral, according to iNews.

Politico reported that an FCDO document detailing logistics for those traveling to the service from abroad says "multiple and comprehensive layers of security will be in place across London and at all the official venues used for the state funeral and associated events."

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at 96 years old, ending an era for the UK. Her son, now King Charles III, attended his accession ceremony on Saturday.

The Queen's coffin is currently being transported from Balmoral, Scotland, where she died, to London. Along the way, the hearse will make multiple stops in Scotland, before reaching the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is the official residence of the monarch in Scotland, the BBC reported.

After the monarch's funeral, the Queen will reach her final resting place in Windsor Castle next to her late husband, Prince Philip who died in April 2021 at age 99.

Republican lawmakers have warned Apple that it will face intense scrutiny from Congress if the California company procures memory chips from a controversial Chinese semiconductor manufacturer for the new iPhone 14.

Marco Rubio, Republican vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Michael McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said they were alarmed following a media report that Apple would add Yangtze Memory Technologies Co to its list of suppliers for Nand flash memory chips that are used to store data on smartphones.

“Apple is playing with fire,” Rubio told the Financial Times. “It knows the security risks posed by YMTC. If it moves forward, it will be subject to scrutiny like it has never seen from the federal government. We cannot allow Chinese companies beholden to the Communist party into our telecommunications networks and millions of Americans’ iPhones.”

The modification to the law stems from a 2017 court ruling that found barring an intersex person who had been registered female from changing their gender to a third option was discriminatory and unconstitutional. The court ordered lawmakers to either create a third gender option or do away with the gender category altogether.

About one in every 2,000 births is intersex. Adults who believe they’ve been misgendered on their legal documents can adopt the new “diverse” designation, but require a doctor’s note testifying to their physical condition, a stipulation that transgender groups are calling unfair.

Germany’s Lesbian and Gay Association says the law should take into account “social and psychological factors” in addition to the physical, complaining it only recognizes the biological aspect of gender. The doctor’s note requirement is “preposterous and a sign of distrust in those who don’t fit into an old-fashioned view of society,” said Green Party leader Anton Hofreiter.

CDU lawmaker Marc Henrichmann approved of a restriction that prevents citizens from “subjectively self-assessing their own gender,” while others felt that it was not strict enough.

“Which gender you belong to has been an objective fact since the beginning of time – just like age and body measurements,” said Beatrix von Storch, acting parliamentary group leader of the AfD party.

The Netherlands opted to add an “X” gender option to its passport, after a similar lawsuit from an intersex person, and assesses citizens wanting to switch to the new designation on a case-by-case basis.

With the 2018 elections less than a week away, Trump is desperate to rally his supporters and retain Republican control of Congress. After announcing earlier this week that he would send 5,000 troops to the Mexican border to stop the migrant caravans, he upped the number to 15,000 in a press conference on Wednesday, emphasizing that “nobody’s coming in.”

Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) tweeted footage earlier this month that appeared to show Central American women and children receiving money to join a migrant caravan, while Fox News reported earlier this week that some of the migrants are being bused through Mexico in order to reach the US by Election Day.

Over 6,000 migrants are currently moving toward the border in four groups. The closest and largest group, numbering about 4,000, has made it as far as Juchitan, Mexico, while two more groups totaling about 2,000 migrants left El Salvador on Wednesday morning.

Many in the media blamed Saturday’s mass shooting on “anti-Semitic conspiracy theories” involving Soros, the billionaire Democratic financier and currency speculator known for funding Democratic and progressive causes. Before embarking on the rampage that killed 11 and wounded six at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue, gunman Robert Bowers condemned Jewish aid group HIAS, which resettles refugees, on social media. He also believed Trump was controlled by Jews and made no secret of his anti-Semitism or opposition to the president.

Trump was previously accused of anti-Semitism during the Kavanaugh hearings for tweeting that protesters (whom he called “elevator screamers“) were “paid professionals” funded by “Soros and others,” even though Soros-funded groups like MoveOn.org did in fact organize several protests against Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Soros was the first of many prominent Democrats to receive a bomb-like device in the mail last week. Florida man Cesar Sayoc has been charged with mailing the packages, which were treated as live bombs by authorities but were found on analysis to be incapable of exploding. Authorities searching the van where he is believed to have lived and constructed the devices found a “hit list” of over 100 names they believe he planned to target.
