Would you have watched a show focused on Buffy‘s Faith? How about one in which The Office‘s Dwight runs a farm? Or a teen drama starring Brittany Snow and Krysten Ritter as a pair of Gossip girls in 1980s Los Angeles? So. Would. We. That’s what makes this gallery so bittersweet. It’s a reminder of 10+ promising spinoff concepts that tragically never made it to series. Some were presented as backdoor pilots, while others were merely ideas bandied around by the series’ creators, but they were all very real possibilities. And we understand that spinoffs are tricky. On one hand, some of today’s most celebrated series (i.e. The Good Fight and Better Call Saul) are byproducts of pre-existing shows. On the other hand — and it’s really big hand — an ill-conceived spinoff can tarnish a character’s legacy and alienate a previously loyal fandom. (Raise your hand if you still suffer from Joey-related night terrors.) But the one thing that all of those shows, both good and bad, have in common is that they were given a chance. (And before you ask us why we didn’t include Gilmore Girls‘ Jess-centric spinoff on our list, just know that it was considered… and quickly vetoed.) Browse our gallery of nixed spinoffs we wish had been ordered to series — you can click here for direct access — then drop a comment with your own picks below. Which would-be spinoffs would you add to our list? Sometimes good series not only go bad, they do so at the worst of all possible times — as in, right when they’re coming to an end. As a result, instead of leaving us reflecting fondly on a show that we’ve loved and lost, we’re stuck with an unpleasant aftertaste and a nagging question: It wasn’t always this crummy, was it? The answer, thank the TV gods, is generally no, our favorite programs didn’t always suck. But that doesn’t diminish the “Ugh!” of a lousy series finale. And with so many shows signing off recently — everything from Shadowhunters to The Big Bang Theory called it a day — your friends at TVLine thought that it would be fun to reflect on some swan songs that hit, shall we say, sourer notes. To that end, we’ve compiled a list of the 15 worst series finales of all time. Among them are even a couple of show-stoppers that were so atrocious, they were tossed out when the hit comedies in question were revived years later. Then hit the comments: Was any final episode lousier than the ones that we included? Spotted: CW president Mark Pedowitz stirring speculation about a Gossip Girl reboot at the Television Critics Assoc. winter press tour. “There’s a discussion, but I don’t know if we’re there yet,” the exec told reporters on Thursday when asked about the possibility of reviving the XOXO franchise. “I don’t know what it would be. A lot is up to Warner Bros. and [exec producers] Josh [Schwartz] and Steph[anie Savage], ’cause you don’t want to do anything without them.” Despite pulling in mediocre ratings during much of its six-season run, the original Gossip Girl — which concluded in 2012 — was a pop culture phenomenon that made household names of stars (most notably Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick). The CW is currently home to reboots of Charmed, Dynasty and Roswell.

The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler’s model designation is JL, my original initials, as in Jean Lienert. Don’t Google that. You’ll find I died in 2014 in Pittsburgh at age 85. I take this JL thing as a sign from God that I am supposed to finally buy a new Wrangler, the very first car of my dreams when my dreams included saving $ 25,000 and living off the grid in a one-room log cabin with all of my cast iron pots and pans.
I did live in a tiny log cabin once, but when I discovered there was no line for phone, fax and printer, I trudged down the dirt road a half mile, knocked on a stranger’s door and borrowed their phone to call AT&T. So much for living off the grid. And so much for the Wrangler. I bought a truck, which was useful, but it was not a Jeep, a fact confirmed when I landed a job writing about cars. Among the Porsches and Fords and Ferraris and Dodge Power Wagons were Jeep Wranglers.
Wranglers meant adventure.
Here are two favorites:
1981 — Delivering the Pig of Bronze,Car and Driver’s over-accessorized 1978 project Jeep CJ-7 (named for its chrome hood ornament), to the police chief of rural Waterloo, Neb. He got it because he wrote the editor a letter asking for it. It was my assignment to drive it there. I plotted as many miles of dirt roads as possible between Michigan and Nebraska, not wanting to waste my first big Jeep adventure on pavement and never questioning the ability of this denim-trimmed orange Jeep and its aftermarket aluminum wheels to get us there.

So naive. Somewhere in deepest Iowa with the windshield flipped down to the hood for maximum coolness, the Pig’s rear end began to shudder. As we rolled to a stop, the photographer looked back in time to see one of the five fancy extra-long chrome lug nuts plop into the dust. Two others had vanished. The last two had backed off to the ends of their studs. We had no choice but to trudge down that dirt road a mile, where we found the missing nuts shining in the dust. The second time the wheel wobbled, we limped to a gas station, where we were mocked for the fancy wheels and their worn stud holes, then charged a dollar to have them shimmed tight. The Pig made it through the handoff ceremony at the local fair but was totally disabled in the Holiday Inn parking lot with a locked-up emergency brake by the time we left. This did nothing to dampen the excitement of the police chief. He let me drive his patrol car at 100 miles per hour and blow the siren.
It was not the Jeep’s fault.
1995 — Entering the Jeepers Jamboree and driving the Rubicon Trail in northern California from start to finish. The most terrifying — ergo exciting — technical driving I’ve ever experienced was the seven hours it took me to negotiate about nine miles of the Rubicon Trail. The main components included squeezing between rocks and trees (both immovable), crawling up and over the Granite Slab (rock as far as you can see, marked by a trail of differential fluid), straddling the Little Sluice Box (a slot in the rocks piled with more rocks) and doing it again at the Big Sluice Box (a downhill horror of a rock chasm leading to the safety of camp).
It helped to be a guest of Jeep, complete with a prepared 1995 YJ with a new 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine and attending mechanics. But I had to drive that brutal rock pile myself and finish my quest by negotiating the Big Sluice Box while it was lined on both sides by cheering (or jeering) Jeepers who’d finished and were well into the booze. I could barely breathe. This only intensified my need for a Wrangler.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve . . .
. . . or maybe it was summer, there was a knock on the door of our farmhouse. We didn’t know the guy, but he pointed to a semi parked on the road in front of our house. “I have a delivery,” he said. He rolled out of the semi in a well-used 1987 Wrangler YJ — an over-the-top thank-you gift from a friend to my husband for a favor.
Before you Jeep purists go all gooey on us for owning the first year of the first Wrangler, let me say that it comes with a curse. I’m not talking about the sad four-cylinder engine, the vacuum leaks, the propensity for floor rust or the blasphemous square headlamps. The curse was zippers. Our big mistake was freeing our YJ from the zippered cloth and vinyl panels that hid its beauty. Yes, we removed all of it. We wanted to see those cool steel half-doors without the foggy plastic windows, so we pulled them out of the doors and unzipped every bit of protective cloth hugging the roll cage.
Oops. We gave up trying to zip the whole thing back together and paid someone to do it for us. He gave up once he forced the cloth sleeves back onto the roll cage. I think the other parts are still up in the hayloft.
Luckily, we have a barn in northern Michigan, where our gift horse has a place of honor, ready for an evening forest ride on muddy trails along the river. During family reunions, the Wrangler ferries kids up the hill from tubing on the river. I used that old friend (against its will) to teach three teenagers how to drive a stick.

The YJ has been great fun for almost two decades, but it wasn’t going to take much for the new JL to impress me. Just look at it: The correct front end with seven grille slots tucked between two round headlamps. The massive presence from every angle, including watching someone else crawl it up some impossibly steep pile of shifting rocks above you. And if you’re the one at the wheel, every foot of the way up — and down — will make you feel like you own the mountain. That would be me.
The body is Adonis-like, the interior is modern and packed with tons of storage and more connectivity; it was designed with a deft touch by someone who watched, listened and then nailed it. Even the door handles are better. There are the so-called Jeep purists who will question the credentials of — and hold a grudge against — the new JL for being too civilized, like that’s a bad thing.
Read what the Autoblog team has written about testing the Wrangler. Oh, it’s gloriously civilized all right, and with that heart of a mountain goat, this Jeep will take you as far from civilization as you may want to go. Even across the Rubicon. And there are no zippers.

Leighton Meester has booked a guest stint on Fox’s Last Man on Earth, and TVLine has an exclusive first look at the Gossip Girl vet’s surprisingly elegant debut. According to sources, Meester figures into the upcoming arc centered on new recurring cast member Fred Armisen, whose character was first introduced at the end of Sunday’s fall finale. Considering the fact that Armisen’s creepy-looking alter ego is currently holed up in an abandoned prison, and, as the above image makes pretty clear, Meester’s character is most definitely not, it’s probably safe to assume that she will appear via flashback.
TVLine first reported news of Armisen’s Last Man gig back in October. The SNL vet is slated to appear in roughly four episodes as Karl, a survivor with an interesting past. Meester, meanwhile, is booked for just one episode (set to air in early 2018).
Meester returns to the Fox fold after starring in last season’s short-lived period comedy Making History.
Last Man on Earth resumes its current fourth season on Sunday, Jan. 7.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – New York gossip columnist Liz Smith, who covered the breakup of U.S. President Donald Trump’s first marriage and helped lead the media’s charge into celebrity news, died on Sunday at her Manhattan home, the New York Times and other media reported. She was 94.
The Texas native chronicled the lives of Hollywood and Broadway stars, along with moguls, models and the wealthy, starting in the 1950s.
She famously broke the news of Trump’s separation from his first wife, Ivana, in the New York Daily News, one of several papers where she worked over the years. She also worked at New York Newsday and the New York Post. Her column was widely syndicated, and at her peak she earned more than $ 1 million a year, according to the New York Times.
Unlike her predecessors in the gossip field, her coverage often had less to do with scandal and more about offering readers a window into the lives of the rich and famous.
Born Mary Elizabeth Smith in Fort Worth, she was the daughter of a cotton broker who fell on hard times during the Great Depression, the Times said. She later told the newspaper that she “couldn’t face” the family’s poverty and fell in love with the glamour of movies and their stars.

Westwick is now being investigated by the LAPD’s sex crimes unit over allegations made by actress Kristina Cohen, according to the LA Times.
Cohen took to Facebook Monday to detail her rape allegation, adding #metoo to the end of her post. The hashtag has become a symbol of strength for women after film producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of rape and sexual assault by dozens of women in Hollywood.
Cohen recounted how Westwick held her down and raped her.
“I now realize the ways in which these men in power prey on women, and how this tactic is used so frequently in our industry, and surely, in many others,” Cohen said.
“I hope my coming forward will help others to know that they are not alone, that they are not to blame, and it is not their fault. Just as the other women and men coming forward have helped me to realize the same. I hope that my stories and the stories of others help to reset and realign the toxic environments and power imbalances that have created these monsters.”
Westwick was quick to refute the allegations, tweeting to the world that he has never met Cohen.
“I do not know this woman,” Westwick said. “I have never forced myself on any woman, in any manner. I certainly have never committed rape.”
On Wednesday, a second woman took to social media to accuse the 30-year-old actor of rape.
Former actor Aurelie Wynn said she was dating ‘Glee’ star Mark Salling at the time. Salling is currently facing up to seven years jail for child pornography charges.
She alleges that when she told Salling of the rape, he broke up with her and friends advised her not to say anything.
“In July 2014, I went through a very similar ordeal with Ed Westwick,” said Wynn.
“And like Kristina, I said no and he pushed me face down and was powerless under his weight,” she said.
“My other friends and people around me told me it was best not to say anything, to not be “that girl” and that no one would believe me and think I was just out trying to get my 10 seconds of fame.”
Wynn said Cohen’s revelation gave her the courage to come forward and speak out about her alleged sexual assault.
“I believe you Kristina Cohen and thank you for speaking up so eloquently and really encompassing what young female actresses have to go through at the hands of men like Ed Westwick. Without you I would not have had the strength to speak up publicly about my ordeal,” she added.
Westwick has not responded to the second rape allegation.
