Once they had finished the routine and joined Claudia Winkleman to wait for their results, JJ congratulated the pros. 

Claudia said: “I mean JJ you always say you can’t believe you’re still here. You just opened the quarter-final in Musical Week, what’s going on in your head?”

Strictly Come Dancing fans are waiting to find out which professional dancers will be paired with which celebrities.

Reports have emerged earlier today suggesting Neil Jones will get a celebrity partner for the first time. 

However, it’s believed his new role will come at a cost as Gorka Marquez is thought to be the one who is stepping down. 

It would be a big blow for fans who love the Spanish hunk’s inclusion on the show.

The Sun have reported Neil was picked “over” Gorka because he “isn’t tall enough” for this year’s line-up. 

It is believed new dad Gorka will become one of Strictly’s reserves, and will still dance in group numbers.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative of the BBC for comment. 

The news comes just one day after Neil announced his split with wife and fellow professional, Katya Jones.

Both Neil and Katya issued the same statement, which read: “Hi everyone. As our fans and loyal supporters you are really important to us and so we wanted to let you know some news.

“After 11 years, we have made the mutual decision to separate.”

It continued: “We will always love each other, just in a different way as friend. This will never change what a great team we make and we are really proud of everything we have achieved together.

They added: “We wish one another every happiness and we will remain the best of friends.

“We are really looking forward to getting back to the ballroom and can’t wait to keep on dancing. Lots of love from us both xx.”

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Gorka Marquez cooed over “flawless” Gemma Atkinson in a sweet video shared on Instagram.

The professional dancer showered the former Emmerdale actress with compliments when they sat down for some hot beverages.

Speaking to the camera, Gorka told his 154,000 followers: “Having a coffee today in London with my beautiful. How was your photo shoot?”

“It was flawless, I looked incredible. No, I’m joking,” Gemma replied.

“No, she did! I saw the pictures,” Gorka offered, before cheekily covering his mouth and shooting the camera a mischievous look.

Earlier in the day, Gorka shared a video of him and Gemma, 33, chowing down a delicious gourmet breakfast.

The pair, who confirmed their romance earlier this month, met on the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Since going public the couple have delighted their fans by posting a series of loved-up pictures on social media.

Just days ago Gorka, 27, shared an adorable black and white photograph of him tenderly kissing Gemma’s shoulder.

The Spaniard added the caption: “Excited to see this face tomorrow!!! @glouiseatkinson.”

Unsurprisingly, the duo’s fans rushed to the comment section to compliment the “beautiful couple”, with one writing: “You both make my heart sore.”

“Those who play together stay together and you look like you have great fun. So happy for you and love the pics,” (sic) added another.

A third gushed: “You two are just absolutely gorgeous,” while a fourth commented: “Such a cute couple.”

On Monday, Gemma gushed about her beau during a chat with her Key 103 breakfast co-stars Mike Toolan and Matt Haslam.

She said: “I like the fact that he’s funny. He makes me laugh and because he’s in London and I’m in Manchester – I think that’s a good thing – you both have to make an effort to see each other.”

Speaking about their Valentine’s Day vacation, she added: “When we got back to the hotel room there was this massive bouquet of roses he’d left for me, it was really nice.”

The singer was snubbed by Gorka, 27, while trying to show him affection after their final dance.

In a video uploaded to Instagram, Alexandra, 29, was seen trying to plant a smacker on her ballroom partner’s cheek.

However, Gorka appeared to dodge her kiss and focus his attention on the camera instead.

During the awkward encounter, Alexandra had tapped Gorka on the cheek before gently kissing him.

However, when she attempted to pull his head towards her the professional dancer quickly moved away as she tried to kiss him again.

However, this wasn’t the only rejection of the night for the former X Factor champion.

On Saturday night’s grand final, the public crowned Joe McFadden, 42, the Strictly Come Dancing champion forcing Alexandra to congratulate him, despite the judges scoring her performances higher than his. 

Joe praised his partner Katya, 28, for his win, saying: “The routines have consistently been brilliant and Katya is such an amazing artist and dancer. Just being in the training room every day was such a joy.

“I mean, it was hard work, but it was a joy and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. No one said it was going to be easy,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Gorka has been linked to Strictly contestant Gemma Atkinson, 32, after they posted a series of cosy pictures.

Although they survived at the expense of EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, 35, and partner Nadiya Bychkova, 28, insiders say her public meltdowns are a clear sign of her desperation.

Alexandra’s crisis has added spice to this weekend’s semi-final when she will go head-to-head with rival Gemma Atkinson.

She has been worried Gorka, 27, has taken his eye off the glitter ball by forging a close friendship with the ex-glamour model and is said to have had “full-blown screaming matches” with the Spaniard.

Before the series, Gemma, 33, told the Daily Express she hoped the so-called Strictly curse of affairs and broken relationships would strike her because she was fed up being single.

She said: “I’ve been single for ages so there won’t be any curse for me…it would be a blessing.”

Despite publicly saying she is not spoken for, a show source revealed: “Gorka and Gemma are together. It’s the talk of the makeup room.”

Bookmakers predict time is running out for Alexandra, offering odds of 33/1 producers assign her a new partner before Saturday and 8/1 she fails to show up.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Almost overnight Alexandra has gone from favourite to 7/1 outsider.

“We don’t think she can win any more and we believe there is a chance she will cut her losses and do a runner.”

But at the weekend Karen, also 35, was spotted with 27-year-old accountant Stuart Wood in London’s trendy Primrose Hill.

An onlooker said: “She and her new bloke didn’t seem to be hiding anything. They were out with friends and looked happy.

“They didn’t seem worried at all about the controversy of being seen together.”

The Sun claims the singer “went in on him” after she was voted in the bottom two for the second week in a row.

A source told them: “There was obvious tension between Alex and Gorka as soon as they got ready for the dance-off.”

Alexandra, 29, allegedly fumed at Gorka, 27, when he attempted to give her pointers before their performance.

The source claimed: “As he gave her a few words of wisdom on how to improve for it, she straight away went in on him.

“She couldn’t stop bickering with him and saying things like, ‘I’m not having that’ and ordering him about.”

This comes after the actress hit back at reports that she had a backstage meltdown after finding out she was in the dance-off on Strictly Come Dancing.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “Because it’s really hard to read lies. I have to say something… after the show on the weekend I actually WASN’T in the green room. 

“I was in the physio room treating an injury and then went home. NO meltdown… just happy that we made it through another week,” she added.

In the quarter-final, Alexandra and professional dance partner Gorka topped the leaderboard with 39 points.

But once the public vote was factored in the singer found herself in the bottom two with Eastenders actor Davood Ghadami, 35. 

However, all four judges voted to save her over Davood, with Darcey Bussell, 48, saying:  “Both couples gave 100 per cent tonight and it’s tough to see anybody go, but there was one performance that totally outshined the other and that was Alexandra and Gorka.”

Alexandra will compete with celebrities Joe McFadden, Mollie King, Gemma Atkinson and Debbie McGee in the semi-finals this weekend.

The X Factor star was given stellar comments from the judging panel following her sizzling Argentine Tango on Saturday night, particularly as it was first time that dance scored a 10 on the BBC series.

Behind-the-scenes Alexandra, 29, revealed that she struggled when Gorka, 27, commands her to practice the weekly routine in front of him. 

“I always make her do the routine on her own when she comes to dance with me,” the Spanish dancer explained.

The contestant was quick to confess the truth about her feelings to presenter Gethin Jones though, as she said: “That’s really hard and super embarrassing I’m not going to lie.”

Seemingly surprised by her admission, Gorka appeared speechless before Gethin stepped in to ask if the technique was helping her improve in the routine. 

“It is helping it’s just embarrassing, because I’m like ‘Oh I don’t want to make a mistake in front of Gorka,” the singer replied. “But it’s amazing and I love it.”

Adding to her struggles preparing for the intense performances on live television, Alexandra went on to admit that she constantly wants to “scream” on-stage, because the control of ballroom dancing goes against her natural state. 

Speaking about her journey towards the Tango, which was also Gorka’s first of the series, she said: “To be honest with you very, very hard, a lot of times I want to scream because I’m quite energetic. 

“I was told a lot of times through the week by Gorka to calm down and breathe but it’s very hard.”

This week, the contestant will try her luck at a Quickstep to The Gold Diggers’ Song (We’re in the Money) from musical hit 42nd Street at the world famous Blackpool dance studio. 

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One, and It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm on BBC Two.

Gemma has been linked to Gorka since Strictly Come Dancing started this year after a source said: “They couldn’t keep away from each other at group rehearsals.” 

The insider told The Sun: “Gorka even invited Gemma to his birthday meal and they sat together the whole night.”

“There is definitely something developing – everyone can see there’s an obvious attraction.”

Despite the rumours, Gorka spoke out and told the Daily Star in an interview in October that there was no truth in it, insisting: “We are just friends. We hang out together and do some workouts and I think she is beautiful.” 

Gemma, too, has rubbished the claims after she told OK! that they weren’t true: “He didn’t have a birthday party. All of us are staying in the same hotel – the cast, the contestants and some of the production staff.

On top that, Gorka’s celebrity partner was said to be unhappy with the rumoured romance because it could affect her chances of winning the competition.

However, Alexandra has also spoken out on This Morning, telling hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: “There’s no truth to any of it. It’s a shame because we’re all having such a wonderful time – the pros and celebs – and to read that is really quite heartbreaking. Then you have to go, it’s the nature of the beast and these things happen.”

Gorka, who was also on the ITV show with Alexandra, added: “I wish they had more cameras in rehearsal so they could see how much fun we have together. How much we love each other.

“I did [have breakfast with Gemma, 32]… a friends breakfast. I’m very sure [it’s not more]. The only time I have, I spend it with [Alexandra]. I don’t want to do anything but go home and rest – she’s the only woman in my life.”

The pair were on the spin off programme to talk about this weekend’s show where they will be performing the Argentine Tango.

As a recording of the couple rehearsing came on screen, Alexandra admitted it has been a very challenging dance to perfection.

Showing exactly how intense their performance will be, Alexandra, 29, grabbed hold of Gorka’s face and pulled him extremely close to hers.

“Literally we’re going to be here,” she said.

Host Zoe Ball was left stunned by the unexpected move and thought the couple were about to do something else.

The flustered presented said: “I actually thought you were going to kiss him then!”

As they all burst out laughing, Zoe added: “Do you need me to practice that with you Gorka?”

The Spanish dancer immediately ran over to the 46-year-old and put his hand on her face to re-create the passionate hold.

During their appearance, Alexandra also spoke about her shock of seeing Aston Merrygold being voted out of the competition.

She admitted: “I was really shocked, it was really hard because I didn’t expect that to happen for a second.

“I thought Aston was going to win the show and I’ve been friends for him for years.”

The 29-year-old X Factor winner’s mother passed away less than two months ago, and Alexandra became emotional that she wasn’t there to see her score 39 out of 40.

Receiving three scores of 10 from the judging panel for her Jive to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary, Alexandra was overwhelmed by the audience reaction.

Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell died in August aged 53 following a nine-year battle with kidney failure, which was brought on by diabetes.

Alexandra has now explained: “I’m not somebody who wants to cry on TV, believe me. It’s the last thing I want to do and I’ve tried really hard not to, but following our Jive the emotion just got too much for me.

“I wasn’t that happy with it in rehearsal and I wasn’t expecting to perform it that well or get the high scores I did, so that minute and 37 seconds on the dance floor felt electric. It was the happiest I have been for a very long time.

“But then I saw my brother in the audience on the screen and, within a split second, my delight turned to overwhelming sadness as I imagined my mum sitting alongside him.”

She continued to Radio Times: “I immediately felt guilty for feeling such joy. My dance partner Gorka also cried after the show finished. He was upset that I hadn’t told him how much I’ve been struggling.

“But, to be honest, I don’t want to bring my personal stuff to rehearsals. The rehearsal room has become my sanctuary.

“It is a happy place where I force myself to leave my grief at the door and focus on being creative and having fun. I don’t want Gorka to feel burdened by what I’m going through.”
