Gayson was 90 when she passed on Friday, having starred as Sylvia Trench in 1962’s Dr No and 1963’s From Russia With Love alongside Sean Connery.

A post on her official Twitter account stated:“We are very sad to learn that our dear Eunice passed away on June 8th.

“An amazing lady who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be very much missed.”

The official James Bond Twitter feed shared a message from Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli: “We are so sad to learn that Eunice Gayson, our very first ‘Bond girl’ who played Sylvia Trench in Dr. No and From Russia With Love has passed away.

“Our sincere thoughts are with her family.”

Her daughter Kate Gayson appeared fleetingly in 1995’s GoldenEye, following in her mother’s footsteps.

It’s her only screen credit, according to IMDb, although Bondstars.com claims she continued a stage career back in the US.

No footage is freely available online of Kate’s cameo, but it was a fitting full-circle moment for when Pierce Brosnan took over the role of the iconic spy.

Eunice had said in an interview in 2012 that she had to be the one to help Connery with his nerves ahead of his Bond debut.

“He came to see me the night before the first day of the shoot. He was terribly nervous,” she told the Daily Record.

“I said, ‘Sean, believe in yourself because everybody else does’. He had done a wonderful test and that’s how he got it so there was no need for him to be nervous. Next day, when we got on set, I could see the nerves were very much up.

“It came to take one, which was the first shot of the first day of the first film of the Bond series. I asked him who he was and he looked at me and I thought, ‘Oh no, is he going to dry?’”

She added: “He said, ‘The name is James Conn…eh.. cut!’ Well, my goodness me, you can imagine the turmoil on the set.

“We had quite a few takes. I had never seen Sean as nervous. We had already had a drama with my dress which had held up shooting for most of the morning and now this.

“The producers were standing on the side of the set almost biting their nails.

“After a while, Terence said he was going to call for an early lunch. He said to me, ‘I want you to give him a good stiff drink to relax him. Give him one drink and no more.’ Those were his orders.”

Hours of sniping through snow and low frame rates, along with grenade-launcher game slowdowns and shouts of “Temple shotties,” turn 20 years old today. N64 first-person shooter classic Goldeneye 007 launched in the United States on August 25, 1997, and it’s hard to turn in any direction on the Internet today without finding someone posting an appreciation for it.

But how many of those appreciations are as old as the game?

Behold: my very first employer, the Dallas Morning News, celebrated the occasion today by republishing my own launch-week review of Goldeneye 007. In August 1997, I was a junior in high school who had been contributing to the paper’s “Electronic Adventures” column for about a year, which was chock full of high school and college students willing to accept ridiculously low pay in exchange for early access to modern games.

Tangledeep, a roguelike RPG in development, is a blast from the past that draws inspiration from the SNES era. At first glance, the art style grabbed me and as I watched the trailer, the music reinforced that this would be a game to keep an eye on.

Tangledeep is a procedurally-generated game that allows players to build a unique experience on every playthrough. Upon starting the game, you will have the option to choose between 12 jobs that all have their own design and perks. On top of this selection, you can also choose two feats for your character that help you tackle the enemies while dungeon-crawling.

The game’s Kickstarter was offered so that people could help turn Tangledeep from an amazing game into something legendary. The main goal of the Kickstarter was to help polish the game (not to help finish it) and even allowed the game to feature guest composers, with Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, etc) and Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee, etc) composing for the game. The Kickstarter has met its first funding goal, and has added further stretch goals to bring even more depth to the game.

Tangledeep caters to players who may enjoy modern music in games, rather than 16-bit style, as well. The developer has said that he wants to have two sides of the soundtrack available – traditional SNES style, as well as orchestrated versions.

There is so much that Tangledeep has to offer between this extremely promising soundtrack, nostalgic art style, and exciting dungeon crawling experience that I hope the Kickstarter continues to be funded so it can create a truly magnificent experience. I highly recommend that anyone who is even slightly curious go try their pre-alpha build on their Kickstarter.

Speedrunning communities build up their share of stories. Legendary runs, heartbreaking chokes and new trick discoveries abound. Goldeneye 007 speedrunner RWhiteGoose has sat down to chronicle the tales behind one of Goldeneye’s best levels.

Ryan J. White is a Goldeneye runner ranked sixth in the world for time on leaderboards. In a new video, he outlines the history of speedruns on the game’s ‘Frigate’ level. Individual level records are tracked heavily by the larger community. Getting a record on Frigate is a challenging level because of how random it can be. The player must rescue hostages who take a variable amount of time to escape. White tracks the tactics players developed to tackle the level in exhaustive detail.

You can see the iterative changes throughout each run in the video. Runners decide to toss a tracking bug across the level to hit an objective early and learn to warp through level architecture. Every run has a new story including a heartbreaking tale of a world record lost by a single button press and a dastardly fake run that stood as a record for over a year and a half.

White’s enthusiasm for the game is clear throughout, his boisterous personality coloring each tale with an infectious energy.
