Donald Trump was once paid in gold bars for the lease of a parking garage, per a new book.
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman wrote that the gold bars were sent to Trump Tower.
Trump didn't know how to handle the bars and it is unclear what happened to them, per Haberman.
During his days as a businessman in New York, former President Donald Trump was once paid with a pile of gold bars in lieu of cash.
This anecdote was shared in a new book by New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman titled "Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America." According to an excerpt provided exclusively to CNN, this odd form of payment was given to Trump to cover the price of leasing a garage at the General Motors building in New York, which Trump bought in 1998.
Per CNN, Haberman wrote that Trump didn't know how to handle the dozens of gold bars sent to him. They were eventually wheeled up to his apartment at Trump Tower, though it's unclear what happened with the gold bars afterward.
Haberman also recalled in the excerpt seen by CNN that Trump was asked about the gold bars and responded by calling it a "fantasy question."
A representative at Trump's post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
The account from Haberman adds to the list of odd revelations about Trump's past business dealings that have emerged in recent months.
According to Enrich, Trump — who was then a real-estate businessman — had failed to pay his bills. When confronted by his irate lawyer, Trump t pulled out a "deed to a horse" and told the lawyer that it was "more valuable" than the fees he owed.

For more than two years, research teams across the country — and around the world — have been using human waste to monitor rising and falling SARS-CoV-2 levels. The same sewage surveillance systems can track pathogens from polio to monkeypox. So what’s the future of wastewater testing?

Trump lashed out at Fox News and contributor Karl Rove, who criticized Trump having documents at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump also said he would support CNN if the network decided to take a conservative approach.
The comments come amid exits at CNN that suggest the network wants to appeal to a wider audience.
Former President Donald Trump tore into Fox News on Sunday, accusing the network of amplifying the Democratic agenda and going harder on Republicans than Democrats.
"Wow! Fox News is really pushing the Democrats and the Democrat agenda. Gets worse every single day," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. "So many Dems interviewed with only softball questions, then Republican counterparts get creamed."
It's unclear what interviews exactly Trump was referring to, but he also specifically called out Karl Rove, a former GOP White House official and Fox News contributor.
"RINO Karl Rove is unwatchable, very negative, and on all the time – Has a big record of losing! Not an easy place to be as a Republican, especially with all of the 'pervert' purchased ads," Trump said. It's unclear what ads he was referring to.
Rove served as a senior adviser and deputy chief of staff during the Bush administration in the 2000s. He has appeared on Fox News several times to discuss the Justice Department's investigation into Trump's handling of government records and the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago on August 8.
"None of these documents are his to have taken," Rove said last week, citing the Presidential Records Act.
While criticizing Fox News on Sunday, Trump also said that if the network's cable news competitor CNN adopted a conservative approach, he would support it.
"If 'low ratings' CNN ever went Conservative, they would be an absolute gold mine, and I would help them to do so!" Trump said of CNN, which he has frequently described as "failing" and "fake news."
Trump's comments about CNN come as the network appears to be shifting its strategy in order to attract a wider range of viewers.
Brian Stelter also had a sudden exit from CNN last month. Stelter, whose show "Reliable Sources" covered media, frequently criticized Fox News and right-wing outlets.
Several unnamed CNN employees and former staffers told The Washington Post they viewed the recent string of exits as evidence of Licht's plans to reposition CNN as an ideologically neutral network by limiting voices that are critical of Trump.
Representatives for Fox News and CNN did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

https://briefnews.eu/falcon-and-winter-soldiers-amy-aquino-on-sam-and-buckys-couples-therapy-all-of-this-gold-was-coming-out/
https://briefnews.eu/falcon-and-winter-soldiers-amy-aquino-on-sam-and-buckys-couples-therapy-all-of-this-gold-was-coming-out/#respondWed, 31 Mar 2021 23:14:51 +0000https://briefnews.eu/falcon-and-winter-soldiers-amy-aquino-on-sam-and-buckys-couples-therapy-all-of-this-gold-was-coming-out/
After decades of being brainwashed to murder against his will, he’s finally processing what’s been done to him through private sessions with his court-mandated therapist, Dr. Christina Raynor, played by Amy Aquino. Although Bucky isn’t exactly receptive to her — he lies about his nightmares and rails against her attempts to get through to him — Raynor is determined to help the ex-assassin before it’s too late. Given her past military experience and bouts with PTSD, she knows how bad things can get.
“That’s why she sees her job with Bucky as a life-and-death thing. If anybody’s likely to have PTSD, it’s probably the 106-year-old soldier who was made to kill people that he actually liked and believed in,” Aquino tells TVLine. “She just sees him as a person who needs help because she knows that when she went through it, she wasn’t a soldier, and she was just having to deal with these memories and having to find a way to hang on to herself and her humanity, despite the things that she was forced to do.”
Raynor is given one last chance to help Bucky before he embarks on a global mission alongside Sam to stop the Flag Smashers, who’ve created new Super Soldiers with a special serum. In a memorable scene during Episode 2, Raynor held an impromptu therapy session with both Bucky and Sam in jail — Bucky was arrested for missing a session with Dr. Raynor — with the hopes of planting the seeds that will allow Bucky to finally let down those metaphorical walls he’s been holding up.
“She uses Sam as the chink in the armor because this is a person he has a relationship with, and they had this shared relationship with [Steve Rogers’] Captain America, which is obviously the pivotal relationship in Bucky’s life,” Aquino explains. “She uses Sam as the battering ram to get through his armor, and it kind of works. It’s only the beginning because that’s the only time she has, but knowing that he and Sam are going to be working together, she can hope that they keep opening up.”
Without her regular office space or the usual tools to work with, Raynor relied on a couples therapy format to get the superhero duo to begin opening up to one another. According to Aquino, the humorous scene was just as fun to film as it was to watch, thanks to her co-stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s superb improvisational skills.
“Everybody was having fun with it,” she shares. “It was the moment that you could have fun with, but then they were able to let it go where it had to go, which is the big revelation that Bucky has. My biggest challenge was not stopping them too early because [director Kari Skogland] was letting them improvise. It would be insane not to with these two guys who are so smart and have such a strong relationship, because that’s where all of this gold was coming out.”
With the Falcon and the Winter Soldier headed out of town, Raynor’s 20-minute session will have to suffice for now. Whether or not she’ll return to provide more aid remains to be seen.
“Raynor sees that as likely her last chance with him,” Aquino concludes. “But, obviously, this universe is wide.”
Do you think Bucky needs more sessions with Dr. Raynor? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Plus, see what Sebastian Stan had to say about Bucky in the video below.

On Wednesday’s episode, Olympian Lolo Jones got into a heated exchange following the daily challenge, while Amber M. grew suspicious of one of her closest allies, Amber B. Why is everyone so shocked when their competition turns shady? (Beats me.) Looks like a few of the newbs are in for a rude awakening. Here are the highlights from Episode 8 of Double Agents.
Now that Lee and Kam both have their skulls, the duo talks about shifting their target to Theresa. But they want to wait until they’re positive it’s a female elimination day before pulling that trigger.
Lolo realizes she’s not getting thrown into elimination because no one wants her to get her pass to the final. She knows she needs to win a challenge in order to get her opportunity, but things aren’t exactly copacetic between her and her partner, Nam. CT feels he’s in the same boat; no one wants to see that monster in elimination or the final.
CHALLENGE ACTIVATED |In “All Brawl,” competitors search a giant mud pit for an iconic Challenge relic. The winners of each heat will then move on to Phase 2.
In Heat 1, Nany finds the relic first, but Lolo quickly activates her beast mode. After Nany throws the goods away, Kam snatches it and runs in for the win. Lolo then blows a gasket, accusing Aneesa of choking her from behind. If Lolo wants everything to be fair, she showed up to the wrooong game.
In the guys’ first heat, Nam finds the relic, but pretends he’s still looking. He waits for the right moment, and when nobody’s paying attention, he sprints to the finish line. Gabby and CT take Heats 3 and 4.
In Phase 2, it’s CT vs. Nam, and Gabby vs. Kam, only this time, players must grip onto the relic and wrestle it away to defeat their opponent. TJ sounds the horn, and the men go ballistic. Nam takes a bunch of elbows to the face as CT crushes him against the side of the pit, and as expected, Nam’s cooked on this one. Kam then wins for the women.
TJ then announces a sudden death third round where CT and Kam, along with their partners, must fight it out for the whole shebang. The first team to win both rounds will become the next Double Agents. CT is immediately irked; he thinks there’s no way in hell Big T will ever beat Kam and… he’s absolutely right. Kam quickly starts tossing T around like a rag doll and seals the deal. Kyle then beats CT, though CT half-asses the face-off, knowing the cards weren’t in his favor. Regardless, Kyle and Kam become the new Double Agents!
DELIBERATION |The two K’s quickly weigh their options. Kam wants to protect Aneesa, but the cheeky Brit wants to drink the blood of his enemies, naturally. At the house meeting, Mechie and Amber M.’s names are thrown around, as are Aneesa and Fessy’s. It comes time to vote, and when the Double Agents get the results, the Compromised Agents are… not revealed to us! For the first time this season, we only see Kyle and Kam’s reactions, but we don’t see the results yet! Dang.
Oh, and Amber M.’s hunches were right on the money: Her ally Amber B. totally voted her in. Savage.
Since Lolo won’t STFU about what happened at the challenge, Aneesa makes a classy move and apologizes for competing in the damn thing. (I digress, but shouldn’t an Olympian sort of expect the competition to get ruthless? Insert all of the eye rolls here.) Anyhoo, the two squash their beef.
THE CRATER |TJ announces that Amber M. and Mechie are the Compromised Agents, so Kyle and Kam throw Nany and Josh into elimination to give one of them a chance to earn his or her skull. It turns out to be a guy’s night, so Josh and Mechie go head-to-head. (Anyone else praying Mechie takes Josh out? Pretty, pretty please, reality TV gods?) In the elimination, contestants must solve a puzzle, which will then tell them which targets are breakable on their massive board. From there, it’s the same elimination Aneesa and Tori did a few weeks back — pull a container of heavy “bombs” over, and toss the weighted bombs at all of the targets to win.
Josh destroys Mechie on the slide puzzle and quickly collects his bombs, but his throwing skills… those need some work! The entire cast, plus TJ, shares a few laughs at his expense, but Josh eventually gets his act together and knocks Mechie out of the competition for good. He then sticks with Nany as his partner, while Amber M. becomes a Rogue Agent.
Well, shantay Josh stays. Please share all of your thoughts and feelings in the Comments below!

https://briefnews.eu/why-we-need-gold-and-bitcoin/
https://briefnews.eu/why-we-need-gold-and-bitcoin/#respondTue, 07 Jan 2020 08:57:26 +0000http://briefnews.eu/?p=257360Article was originally published on GSI Exchange.
In today’s digital age, we live in two worlds: the physical world and the virtual world.
The virtual world cannot exist without the physical world (power outages will attest to this).
But we cannot exist in today’s physical world without the virtual world (digital technology has embedded itself into every aspect of life from personal to social to commercial, etc.).
Money, too, now exists in both worlds as cash and metals are being digitized.
The problem: government and banks are finding ways to make the digitization of money work toward their interests and advantages…at the expense of the people (e.g. the “war on cash”).
Government’s monopoly over the creation, distribution, and regulation of fiat currency works against the principles of a free market.
“Free market” entails the “freedom” to use and hold any form of money that fulfills the demands of the market. The notion of a free society also implies the individual’s right to “privacy” (including transactions and asset holdings).
Government has severely restricted the freedom and privacy of individuals to conduct transactions and hold assets.
Government has monopolized money, making the manipulation, management, and artificial creation of money its sole privilege. This is government’s way of saying to its people: we can manage your wealth better than you can manage it yourself.
Gold and Bitcoin (and other acceptable “altcoins”) exist beyond this restrictive system.
Both operate outside the corruptive influence of government and central bank intervention and control.
Intrinsic Value: gold has physical intrinsic value—a commodity itself that has value beyond its currency value. Bitcoin’s intrinsic value is its generative process (algorithm) and coin limit as well as its underlying technological features and applications.
Scarcity: unlike fiat currency, gold is physically mined and finite; Bitcoin (and a few other altcoins) is algorithmically mined and finite.
Inflation Hedge: both gold and Bitcoin are hedges against the inflationary degradation of fiat currency.
Universal Means of Exchange: gold and Bitcoin are recognized and exchanged across international lines.
Forgery-Proof: the quantity of gold can be reduced, but its material composition cannot be forged; Bitcoin cannot be forged.
Risk of Confiscation: it would be impossible for the government to confiscate your privately-owned “physical” gold; such a scenario would be virtually impossible with regard to cryptocurrencies. In contrast, digitized currency and metals (via CUSIP) can easily be tracked, monitored, taxed, and seized.
Gold is the ultimate measure of value in the physical monetary domain; Bitcoin and altcoins rule the digital monetary domain.
Wealth in today’s world means owning assets in the form of “sound” physical and virtual money.

On tonight’s Antiques Roadshow, jewellery expert John Benjamin was presented with a gold bracelet made in 1815 with blue and brown stones.
John was thrilled to see the piece and even happier to reveal the staggering amount it was worth to the guest who brought it onto the show.
“Where has it come from?” he enquired after setting eyes on the interesting item.
The guest replied: “I acquired it recently. I got it from my parents for my 40th birthday and my mum had it and she used to wear it and I wore it last weekend actually.”
“I bet it drew some admiring glances didn’t it?” John asked.
The collector continued: “It did. My friends liked it.”
John went on to talk about the details of the bracelet, noting: “Alright now let’s give you a description.
“Have you noticed the little flower heads are a different colour to the plaques?
“Can you see that they are slightly greenish in colour, this is known as two tone gold.”
He continued: “The blue stones are called blood stones because of the little flecks of red in the stone are meant to be representative of Christ’s blood.
“The brown stones are called carnelian. These are natural hard stones in this era of around George the third.
“All of the individual little stones are engraved with heads you’ve spotted that haven’t you?
“You often find that with these heads they often depicted greek philosophers. The thing about this piece is that it is conditioned.”
John later added: “The craftsmanship that went into this would have been absolutely amazing.”
Going on to reveal the cost of the bracelet, he exclaimed: “£4,000-£5,000.”
The guest was shocked by the valuation, especially as she had worn it on a night out with friends.
“I would not have thought that when I wore that last weekend,” she gasped.
“It’s a good thing it didn’t fall off.”
Last week on the BBC show, one guest was thrilled with the valuation of Winston Churchill’s top hat, cigar and cigar case as well as a collection of letters from one of the women who worked with the former Prime Minister.
The expert revealed the group of items could sell for around £10,000.

The Games with Gold April 2019 lineup is being launched by Microsoft tomorrow, April 1.
And that means fans only have a short window to grab some of the free games available during March.
Every month, Microsoft reveals a list of titles that will be available to those with an active Xbox Live Gold subscription.
However, these games are only downloadable for a short time, and when they disappear, you will no longer be able to add them to your collection.
The good news is that fans still have time to add titles like Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to their digital libraries.
The Games with Gold refresh date has been set for tomorrow, meaning you still have time to do whatever you please.
They will then be replaced by The Technomancer and Star Wars Battlefront 2 from the original Xbox console.
Fans also have until the end of April 1 to purchase any of the discounts currently running as part of the Deals with Gold program.
This is another perk of having an Xbox Live Gold subscription, which sees a new weekly selection of titles reduced in price.
There’s a mix of new and returning deals available on the Game Store right now, including 20% off Ubisoft’s Trials Rising.
Soul Calibur 6 is also available with 67% off, although fans can also grab a deal for the game when they renew their Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Other deals currently available to Xbox Gold owners include Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Online Edition, Farming Simulator 19 and Bridge Constructor Portal.
And these aren’t the only new Games with Gold bonuses available to enjoy over the coming days.
Xbox Live gamers have until Wednesday, April 3, to play The Elder Scrolls Online free on Xbox One.
The Elder Scrolls Online is a large download and might take a few hours to download depending on your internet connection.
Weighing in at just under 100 GB, ESO was originally released by Developers ZeniMax Online Studios in 2015.
The Elsweyr Prologue – part of a new ESO expansion – is also available to try out with the free download.
Here’s more information on the ESO expansion content, with a new statement explaining: “In the Wrathstone DLC game pack, you began your Season of the Dragon adventure by delving into two challenging dungeons and collecting both halves of the mysterious Wrathstone tablet.
“With the Elsweyr Prologue now live, you can discover the true purpose of the Wrathstone, and, as shown in the Elsweyr Cinematic Trailer, unleash Dragons upon the unsuspecting Khajiit of Elsweyr.”

Fans won’t have to wait long to find out what is included in the new Games with Gold April 2019 lineup.
Fans can currently download the likes of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 and Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion on Xbox One.
These are free to play for as long as you have an Xbox Live Gold subscription and will likely switch over to whatever new console is released by Microsoft in the future.
And a new collection is being primed for an announcement later this week by Microsoft.
The April Xbox Games with Gold collection looks set to be revealed closer to the end of the week, giving fans plenty of time to check out everything being offered.
Being an Xbox Live Gold also makes it possible to access special discounts on select titles each week.
This Week’s Deals With Gold features several AAA titles and also coincides with the launch of a new Publisher Sale.
The Deals with Gold featured right now includes Far Cry New Dawn, Just Cause 4 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Discounts are valid now through 25 March 2019 and will be replaced by a new selection soon after.
All three titles have a considerable discount running on them, cutting the price in half for Just Cause and Tomb Raider.
The same goes for New Dawn; however, there is also a deal that reduces the price further if you purchase it with your Gold subscription.
There are also a lot of other games currently included in Deals with Gold, which can be checked out by clicking through to the console store.
It should be noted that Just Cause 4 is available as part of the Xbox Game Pass, which is also seeing some big changes this month.
Microsoft is removing a selection of titles currently available on the Game Pass and replacing them with new ones.
Kingdom New Lands, Late Shift, Portal Knights and Sacred Citadel are all being removed by the end of March.
All four have been available to play via Game Pass since April 2018, with Late Shift and Portal Knights currently on sale.
Microsoft has also been adding new games to the Pass this week, including Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and What Remains of Edith Finch.
March 28 will see The Walking Dead: Michonne Telltale mini-series and Vampyr added to the Xbox Game Pass.
For those that have never used it before, Games with Gold is available to all Xbox Live Gold members and can be redeemed from the Gold widget on the Xbox One home screen.
When you select a game, it’ll be stored in your account and ready for download when you sign in to your console.
It should also be noted that new Games with Gold titles become available on the first and the sixteenth day of every month.

The Xbox Games with Gold lineup appears to have leaked early.
Microsoft’s Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb is expected to make the official Games with Gold announcement later today at 4pm UK time.
But it looks like the free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games may have leaked early on the Taiwanese Xbox Facebook page.
According to the image – which can be seen below – Mojang’s Cobalt will headline the Xbox One lineup alongside Plants vs Zombies 2 Garden Warfare.
Cobalt will be available from March 1 until March 31, while Plants vs Zombies 2 Garden Warfare will join Games with Gold on March 16 and leave at midnight on April 15.
Some reports suggest that Cobalt will replaced by a different game in Europe and the US, so check back later for confirmation.
Xbox 360 users will be able to download Star Wars Republic Commando on March 1, followed by Metal Gear Rising Revengeance on March 16.
Cobalt is an action platformer that features a mysterious cyborg.
“Shoot, roll, punch, and jump your way to slowmotion victory in Cobalt, an action platformer from Oxeye Game Studio,” reads the official description.
“Take on the role of a mysterious cyborg stranded on an even more mysterious planet in our single player campaign, or play with friends in a wealth of coop and versus multiplayer modes.”
Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2, meanwhile, is a multiplayer shooter developed by PopCap and published by EA.
“The battle for Suburbia grows to crazy new heights in Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2!” the store description reads.
“In this hilarious, action-packed shooter, you can attack as the plants or defend as the zombies in the all-new 24-player Herbal Assault mode, or choose your side in 4-player co-op or Solo Play to sow the seeds of victory!”
In the meantime, Xbox Gold subscribers can download the February 2019 free games.
This includes Super Bomberman R and Bloodstained Ritual of the Night for Xbox One and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy for Xbox 360.
Bomberman is available to download until midnight on March 15, while Bloodstained leaves the service on February 28.
