Chelsea and Real Madrid had been linked with a move for the 25-year-old but the Liverpool have beaten both clubs to solve a problem area for Klopp.

Alisson told Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m really happy, it’s a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning.

“In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family. You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

Alisson arrives at Anfield with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s best after an impressive 2017/18 season for Roma.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers – then it’s not a long thought, to be honest, it’s only that you need to have a little talk with the owners!

“They were quite excited, so we did it.

“I think it’s something we have to do. He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it’s the market, that’s how it is and we will not think a lot about it.

“It shows the value of goalkeepers, of course, in this moment. It will happen a lot in the next few weeks I guess and that’s it, so we are really happy to have him here now.

“His English is surprisingly good and he is a real personality. He has meanwhile a lot of experience in the last few years, in Europe and in Rome, he’s played there on an outstandingly high level and he did the same at the World Cup.

“It was for Brazil not too lucky, that’s how it is, but then he played a really good World Cup. So it’s just a good moment.”

He kept 17 clean sheets in 37 Serie A games for Roma and was Brazil’s No 1 at the recent World Cup.

Alisson’s transfer surpasses the £34.7m fee Manchester City paid Benfica for Ederson last summer.

Alisson has been Liverpool’s first choice to become their No 1 goalkeeper after manager Jurgen Klopp lost faith in Loris Karius.

Karius made two mistakes in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid but was backed by Klopp after the German was found to have suffered a concussion.

But an error in a pre-season friendly against Bury appears to have cost Karius and forced Klopp into the transfer market.

Alisson cut short a family holiday to complete his move to Liverpool and he left Merseyside this evening to rejoin them.

The goalkeeper will not take part in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the US and will instead join up with his new team-mates at their four-day camp in France on July 30.

Roma bid farewell to Alisson in a tweet saying: “Thank you Alisson and good luck in your new adventure.”

Sporting director Monchi had said Liverpool’s offer was too good to turn down.

He said: “When a very substantial offer comes in, you have to consider it. We weighed up the pros and cons and decided to speak to Liverpool.”

Karius, 24, suffered a nightmare in Kiev as he gifted Real Madrid two goals, first by throwing the ball directly at striker Karim Benzema to allow the Frenchman to open the scoring, and then by fumbling Gareth Bale’s long-range effort into the net to seal a 3-1 win for the Spanish giants.

However, doctors from Massachusetts General Hospital now say the German goalkeeper suffered a concussion during the match on May 26, which meant “visual spatial dysfunction existed and likely occurred.”

The statement does not reference a specific moment in the game, although just minutes before the first of his mistakes, Karius collided with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos near the goal-line. At the time of the collision with Ramos, Karius appeared to hold his head and protest to the referee, but did not require treatment. Replays suggested that the Madrid captain caught Karius with a stray elbow.

The statement from doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital, who examined Karius five days after the final, read: “After carefully reviewing game film and integrating a detailed history – including his reported present and immediate post-contact subjective symptoms – physical examination and objective metrics, we have concluded that Mr. Karius sustained a concussion during the match May 26, 2018.

“At the time of our evaluation, Mr. Karius’s principal residual symptoms and objective signs suggested that visual spatial dysfunction existed and likely occurred immediately following the event. Additional symptomatic and objectively noted areas of dysfunction also persisted. It could be possible that such deficits would affect performance.

“We also note that Mr. Karius has reported significant and steady improvement since the concussive event, and we expect him to make a full recovery based on the results of the examination. We expect that with treatment and by following prescribed activity protocols he will continue to improve. We have encouraged vigilance and an emphasis on safety in his eventual return to full activity.”

Karius’ horror show began just a few minutes after the incident with Ramos shortly into the second half.

First, the Liverpool ‘keeper allowed Real striker Benzema to block the ball when he was attempting to throw it out, with the ball bouncing off the defender and rolling into the net.

Sadio Mane equalized for Liverpool shortly afterwards, and Karius was powerless to stop Bale’s stunning overhead kick from restoring Real’s lead, but the German was again at fault for the Spanish side’s third, when he flapped at Bale’s long-range drive.

The Liverpool goalkeeper was inconsolable at the final whistle, and apologized on social media after the game for costing his team a potential sixth European Cup final triumph.

The news of Karius’ possible concussion at the hands of Ramos will likely add to the Spaniard’s villainous image, after he had been involved in a first-half tussle in Kiev which saw star Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah forced off with a shoulder injury.

Salah suffered ligament damage that has ruled him out for around three weeks, meaning he is racing to be fit to play a part for Egypt in this summer’s World Cup in Russia. He was included in the Egyptians’ final 23-man squad announced on Monday, and says he is “confident” he will play in Russia.

Egypt open their campaign against Uruguay on June 15, before facing hosts Russia in St. Petersburg four days later. Karius has not been selected for Germany’s World Cup squad.

Lawrence, who died on Wednesday at the age of 77, won three major trophies at Anfield during the 1960s where he became known as ‘The Flying Pig’ and kept Clemence, arguably the Reds’ greatest goalkeeper, out of the team for two-and-a-half years.

Clemence tweeted: “Sad to hear of the passing of LFC legend Tommy Lawrence. A gentleman who I had the privilege of training with. I learnt so much about being a sweeper keeper from him. My thoughts are with his family RIP Tommy.”

A Scotland international, Lawrence was born in Dailly, Ayrshire, not far from where Shankly himself hailed, not that his background was immediately obvious with an accent tweaked from moving to the north-west as a youngster.

He graduated from being a Liverpool trainee to become a trusted lieutenant of Shankly’s for eight years having made his debut in 1962.

His athleticism despite his stocky frame earned him the ‘The Flying Pig’ moniker and his ability to rush out and clear up behind the Liverpool defence led one-time England manager Joe Mercer to claim Lawrence was the top-flight’s first sweeper keeper.

In an interview with the club, Lawrence had revealed: “(Shankly) said, ‘You know the way you’ve been playing in five-a-side, tackling and clearing it all the time, doing all the running for us at the back. We’re going to try something this week’.

“I had to play outside the 18-yard box and as soon as the game started all I could hear was 30,000 Kopites, ‘Lawrence! Get back in your goal!’. In the end we were losing less goals than anybody.”

His successor Clemence was signed from Scunthorpe in 1967 despite reservations he would not play because of Lawrence’s form. Shankly told him Lawrence would not hold the spot for much longer. But he did, for a further two-and-a-half years.

During his time at Anfield, Lawrence rarely sat out a game, missing only four League matches in the six seasons between 1963 and 1969, including three ever-present campaigns.

He played in every game when Liverpool won the title in 1965-66, reclaiming the trophy he had also helped them secure two years earlier.

And in the season between those successes he was part of the club’s first ever FA Cup triumph as they beat Leeds 2-1 in the final.

In early 1970, Clemence came into the team and the following year Lawrence joined Tranmere, where he made 80 League appearances and he then played for non-League Chorley, before taking up the role of a factory quality controller in Warrington until his retirement.

As unmistakable as he was on the pitch, Lawrence was unrecognisable just three years ago when a BBC reporter was questioning passers-by if they remembered the 1967 Merseyside derby against Everton.

A small smile broke across Lawrence’s face when he was asked if he could recall the fixture.

“That’s right, I do,” he replied. “I played in it. I was goalkeeper for Liverpool!”

Everton’s clash with Lyon was sent into chaos after Ashley Williams and the Lyon keeper came together.

The tussle spilled off the pitch and fans became involved.

One fan was seen trying to throw a punch while holding a child.

And Everton have moved to ban the spectator who struck the Lyon goalkeeper.

“Club Officials have reviewed the footage of an incident that occurred in the 64th minute of the game against Olympique Lyonnais where supporters towards the front of the lower Gwladys Street End became involved in a confrontation between players,” a club statement said.

“We have identified one individual whom action will now be taken against. This will include a ban from attending future Everton fixtures and the Club registering a formal complaint with Merseyside Police.”

The Merseyside Police made an appeal for anyone with information “which could assist the investigation” and asked them to contact the force on 0151 777 4065 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Both clubs are also expected to be subject to disciplinary proceedings from European governing body UEFA following the melee, which began after Wales defender Williams had clashed with the Lyon goalkeeper.

Players from both sides became embroiled in the fracas, which moved to the advertising hoardings, where one Toffees fan, holding a child, appeared to push Lopes in the head before hitting out at him again.

While that was occurring, Williams seemed to raise his hand to Lucas Tousart’s face. However, he avoided dismissal with both the Everton captain and Lyon’s match-winner Bertrand Traore booked.

Speaking after the Toffees’ 2-1 loss, Williams told BT Sport 2 of the scuffle: “It’s what happens, it’s football. It is what it is.

“It’s high emotions. We want to win the game, they want to win the game and stuff happens. That was just one of those times.”

It was, however, referee Bas Nijhuis who under-fire Toffees manager Ronald Koeman blamed for his players losing their cool during a defeat which leaves them facing Europa League elimination having taken just one point from three games.

“I think the irritation grows in the game for our players and in my opinion that was the problem by the referee,” Koeman argued.

“The referee was Dutch but he didn’t do anything against the theatre of some of the Lyon players. (Nabil) Fekir in the first half dived 10 times.

“I understand with my players, that comes out of frustration.”

It compounded another miserable night for Everton and Koeman, who is under mounting pressure with his team having won just two of their previous dozen fixtures.

“I think the performance was under the level in the first half – a lot of mistakes, a lot of doubts, players without any confidence,” the Dutch coach said.

Benfica handed a Champions League debut to 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar last night against Manchester United but it was a performance to forget for the youngster.

The Portuguese side were drawing 0-0 with the Red Devils until Svilar misjudged a Marcus Rashford free-kick and handled it over the line.

The 1-0 defeat left Benfica rock bottom of Group A with zero points and the teenager was visibly disappointed, being consoled by the United players after the final whistle.

Romelu Lukaku seemed to take Svilar under his wing and the keeper has revealed he gave him some kind words of encouragement.

“Yeah, it was nice,” Svilar said after the game.

“He just said that I don’t have to worry, continue to work and it will be okay.”

Svilar became the youngest keeper to play in the Champions League last night and despite his mistake, Jose Mourinho rates the teenager highly.

“I knew how good he was and I told the players how good he was [before the match],” Mourinho said.

“We had a little bit of a strategy, especially on set-pieces, to try to make him uncomfortable so in corners we put lots of players close to him to make him less confident about coming out.

“In free-kicks we knew he risks a lot – only top keepers take risks like he does. The kid was unlucky.

“I think that he deserved a little bit more. He is a phenomenon, amazing. Only great keepers concede goals like these.

“He’s a goalkeeper with huge potential.

“Benfica had better prepare a big suitcase, because someone will pay a lot of money for him in a few years.”

The Belgium Under-19 international is under contract with Benfica until June 2022 and has made two appearances in all competitions this term.

Arrizabalaga is one of the rising stars in Spanish football and has earned comparisons to Manchester United star David de Gea.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and in January he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.

Bilbao have been desperate to tie Arrizabalaga down to a new long-term deal and recently offered him a four-year contract.

But according to Spanish outlet AS, Arrizabalaga is demanding to be paid around £1.9m-a-year by Bilbao.

Arsenal, Real Madrid and Napoli are all tracking the young goalkeeper.

The report says the release clause in Arrizabalaga’s contract would be around £61m.

If an agreement is reached, Arrizabalaga’s new terms would put him in line with the likes of first-term stars Aymeric Laporte, Iker Muniain, Raul Garcia and Aritz Aduriz.

Last week, Bilbao boss Jose Angel Ziganda expressed his confidence that Arrizabalaga would sign a new contract at San Mames.

“I have no reason to be pessimistic regarding Kepa’s renewal,” Ziganda said. 

“I prefer to think positive thoughts rather than negative but this is just the situation, I see him every day and I know he is calm and enjoying himself at the club.”

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is keen to add Premier League experience to his side ahead of their return to top-flight football.

And according to the Daily Mail, Benitez has set his sights on Manchester City outcast Hart.

Newcastle are said to have already approached City about a summer move for the England international, who is also said to be a target for West Ham.

Benitez has considered a move for Napoli keeper Pepe Reina, who he worked with at Liverpool, and Willy Caballero, who completed a free transfer to Chelsea yesterday.

The Toon boss is looking to increase competition for first-choice keeper Karl Darlow and his back-up Rob Elliot.

Hart is understood to be surplus to requirements at the Etihad this summer after being loaned out to Serie A side Torino last summer.

City have also spent £35million to sign Brazilian shot-stopper Emerson from Benfica, who is expected to compete with Claudio Bravo between the sticks.

Newcastle are also looking to offload a number of players this summer, with the likes of defender Grant Hanley and striker Daryl Murphy said to be up for sale.

The Daily Mail add that Benitez is growing frustrated at Newcastle’s lack of progress in the transfer market, despite owner Mike Ashley’s promise to spend big.

Legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin will feature as a ‘Fut Icon’ in popular computer game FIFA 2018, as part of its ‘Ultimate Team mode’ alongside some of football’s greatest-ever players.

Yashin was added to the series along with Diego Maradona, Brazilian legends Ronaldo and Pele, and French star Thierry Henry – a group of players that boast seven World Cups and two European Championships between them.  

EA Sports, which manufactures the FIFA series, paid tribute to Yashin on its website, calling him “arguably the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the game.”

Yashin won five Soviet championships with club Dynamo Moscow – where he spent the entirety of his 20-year career – and also made 74 appearances for the Soviet national team, winning the UEFA European Championship in 1960 and being a runner-up in the same tournament four years later.  

During his illustrious career, Yashin acquired the nickname ‘The Black Spider’ due to his all-black goalkeeping kit – which at times included a flat cap – and his acrobatic reflexes.

Estimated to have kept 270 clean sheets and saved over 150 penalties, Yashin remains the only keeper to ever win the Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player.

His image still remains today in the form of a mural in Moscow’s Tagansky district, which shows him in full Dynamo kit accompanied by his signature.  

Yashin’s inclusion in FIFA 2018 coincides with the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in 12 stadiums across 11 different host cities next summer from June 14 to July 15.  

It is the first time the tournament will be held in the country.

The 35-year-old Spaniard delivered the clincher with his highlight chip in the 90th minute in front of a crowd of 16,000 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The reigning MLS MVP lobbed his perfect shot over the head of Union goalkeeper Andre Blake from just outside of the midfield circle on the Union’s side of the pitch.

Blake back-pedalled to the backline, then jumped and took a wild stab but missed Villa’s remarkable chip.

The Spanish national team’s record goalscorer has now scored four goals in six games in 2017.

“Everybody told me congratulations,” Villa said.

“We are happy because the moment of the goal was good for the team.

“We wanted to win the game, we were 1-0, but in some situations the other team can score, and with this goal, the game was won.”

Villa added: “I was a little tired from running so I tried to score a goal.”

Said Villa’s coach Patrick Viera, “It was fantastic, it was a good finish, and I think it takes a special player to score a special goal.” Jack Harrison scored off a pretty set up from Ronald Matarritta for the only other goal of the contest.

The hapless Union entered the weekend as one of only two remaining winless MLS teams, along with the Montreal Impact.

Philadelphia has lost four straight games this season and hasn’t won in 13 matches, a streak dating back to last season.
