The Flash‘s Iris and friends hang out “in a way you haven’t seen before” as seen in these first photos from the upcoming “Girls’ Night Out” episode (airing Tuesday, Nov. 7 on The CW).

With the “WestAllen” wedding nearing (and scheduled to take place during the four-show Arrowverse crossover), Arrow‘s Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) comes to Central City for Iris’ bachelorette party, while Cisco, Joe and others take Barry out for a night on the town.

Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin, previously told TVLine that the GNO marks “one of my favorite episodes of this season so far.” Describing it as “awesome,” she said it delivers overdue, “great bonding time with all of the women on the show. You’ll see them really together in a way you haven’t seen before.”

There may be a party crasher though in Caitlin’s former and thus displeased bar boss Amunet (Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff), who threatens to reveal that Killer Frost is still among us.

“I get to work with Katee Sackhoff and I think she’s an incredible addition to the show,” Panabaker shared. “I’m really excited about that.”

The Betrayed Girls' Maggie Oliver reveals just TWO grooming offenders are still in prison https://briefnews.eu/the-betrayed-girls-maggie-oliver-reveals-just-two-grooming-offenders-are-still-in-prison/ https://briefnews.eu/the-betrayed-girls-maggie-oliver-reveals-just-two-grooming-offenders-are-still-in-prison/#respond Mon, 03 Jul 2017 09:48:20 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-betrayed-girls-maggie-oliver-reveals-just-two-grooming-offenders-are-still-in-prison/

The former police detective revealed that just two of those who were charged in the investigation are still serving their sentence.

Speaking to host Lorraine Kelly, she explained: “They’re all out apart from two. The vast majority of the offenders, even the offender who got a 12-year-old pregnant.

“We had a foetus, we had DNA, we knew he was responsible but even that man was never charged with rape. He was charged with sexual activity with a child.”

Maggie went on to claim: “If that was my son who got a child, who got a 12-year-old pregnant, I feel sure that he would have been charged with rape.

“It’s all political correctness and people shying away but it shouldn’t matter where anyone is from. A rapist is a rapist. The laws of the country are there to address it.”

was visibly shocked by the facts that were being revealed and could be seen shaking her head in disbelief as she added: “A child rapist is a child rapist.”

Maggie urged those at home to tune into the documentary and for those involved in similar cases to speak up about what is taking place.

“I’m not a racist but I promised as a police officer to act with integrity and impartiality and uphold the law and bring the bad guys to justice,” she concluded.

“What puzzles me is that in the life of a police officer, even a chief starts off a a bobby, at what part of that climb up that slippery pole do they lose sight of what is right and wrong?”

Storyville: Tokyo Girls review – An unsettling look at Japan’s pop 'idol girls' https://briefnews.eu/storyville-tokyo-girls-review-an-unsettling-look-at-japans-pop-idol-girls/ https://briefnews.eu/storyville-tokyo-girls-review-an-unsettling-look-at-japans-pop-idol-girls/#respond Wed, 28 Jun 2017 10:26:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/storyville-tokyo-girls-review-an-unsettling-look-at-japans-pop-idol-girls/

Tokyo GirlsBBC

Storyville: Tokyo Girls offers an unsettling look at Japan’s “idol girls”

Shown in clip form, with gleefully appalled commentary from the likes of Clive James and Chris Tarrant, this show featured hapless individuals undergoing eye-watering ordeals in return for cash prizes.

We’ve now, thankfully, got quite a bit more insight into Japanese society and it has gone from being a country that slightly appals us to somewhere with a lifestyle we admire.

No one was eating sushi for lunch when Clive James was first showing us clips of Endurance.

It’s odd though that however much of someone else’s culture we take on, some other bits will always make us reel.

Storyville: Tokyo Girls (BBC4) offered an unsettling look at Japan’s “idol girls” and a wider, deeper, stranger fascination with youth.

Nineteen-year-old Rio had a cottage industry going, the main product being herself.

In small, sweaty rooms, she danced and pranced in skimpy outfits, before groups of far older men, shouting words like “Faith!” and “Pilgrimage!”.

Just like pilgrims, these men shelled out small fortunes for little tokens of their contact with Rio, from signed photos to CDs of her music and the briefest of handshakes.

Were they in love with her?

Was she selling the false idea that she might be in love with any of them?

It didn’t seem to be the case and nor, to be honest, did any of her ardent fans seem to exist in a zone where relationships, real or imagined, were really on the cards.

You wondered whether they were paying for contact with Rio or just to have contact with each other.

However weird it all seemed, you had to admire Rio, sitting up all night packaging stuff in bubble wrap to send to her fans, cycling thousands of miles across Japan to boost her profile.

Other parts of the “idol” world were less easy to stomach.

At one gathering, the girls were in their mid-teens and looked younger.

Men old enough to be fathers and grandfathers cheered the kids on as they hopped about on stage and then crowded in for a precious few moments of chat at the end.

A couple of the girls’ mums were interviewed and said they’d had doubts at first but not anymore.

These men were all nice, they insisted, just like fathers.

Maybe they had a point. Maybe, in this rigid and very competitive society, some men just fall by the wayside and if they want to have a girlfriend or be a father they can only act out a weird parody of it, for cash.

It’s common for documentaries to tell us they’ve been made with “unprecedented access” to this person or that institution, so that we feel especially privileged as viewers and overlook any shortcomings.

HospitalBBC

A lot of time was spent telling us how overstretched the resources are

Hospital (BBC2) does not employ the phrase, and wisely so, since I honestly can’t recall a week when there hasn’t been a television documentary filmed inside a hospital.

They’re never lacking in compassion or insight and last night’s, laying bare the complex and delicate relationship between private and NHS care, was no exception.

Like many other programmes, however, a lot of time was spent telling us how overstretched the resources are, and how desperately overburdened the highly skilled staff.

This is true. In which case, how are all the film crews helping?

Pretty Little Liars Series Finale Recap: Grade the Girls' Goodbye to Rosewood https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-series-finale-recap-grade-the-girls-goodbye-to-rosewood/ https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-series-finale-recap-grade-the-girls-goodbye-to-rosewood/#respond Wed, 28 Jun 2017 02:29:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-series-finale-recap-grade-the-girls-goodbye-to-rosewood/

After seven long years, give or take a few time jumps, the town of Rosewood is finally at peace.

The series finale of Pretty Little Liars finally brought Aria, Hanna, Emily, Spencer and Alison’s collective nightmare to an end, revealing the identity of A.D. and tying up (nearly) every loose end left untied from the past seven seasons.

Ahead of Tuesday’s finale, executive producer Marlene King — who also wrote and directed the farewell event — told TVLine that the episode would be “structured as a two-hour movie. It’s paced like a feature film, not the way we do regular episodes. … That pacing will feel different and feel special.”

On that much, we can all agree. In fact, given the finale’s jam-packed nature, I’m just going to bullet the biggest events from the episode, which picked up one year after A.D.’s alleged departure. … Cool? Cool. Let’s do this:

* In addition to (still!) planning their wedding, Aria and Ezra were also taking meetings at a movie studio interested in turning their book into a feature film. (During one specific jaunt through the lot, Ezra told Aria that he loves her ugly cry and think it’s “unique,” a fun nod back to this iconic moment.) Aria nearly called off the wedding after discovering that she can’t have children, but Ezra was hearing none of that.

* Alison and Emily were still living together, raising their twin children — yes, twins! — Lily and Grace. They were also still working at Rosewood High School, where a new generation of Liars was already being stalked.

* (Allegedly) no longer as sharp as she used to be thanks to her new meds, Mona moved in with Hanna and Caleb, understandably putting a strain on their relationship. (They were just trying to get pregnant, dagnabbit!)

* Melissa returned to town, and it almost seemed like she and Spencer are finally getting along — save for arguing about which of them gets to sleep in the barn. Of course, it didn’t take long for Melissa to show her true stripes, or rather, her true solids; she was spotted lurking in the bushes, black hoodie and all, during the Liars’ dinner at the Lost Woods. Then, in a twist only PLL could get away with at this point, “Melissa” removed her mask to reveal that she was actually… Mona!

* Toby also returned to town — though he traveled all the way from Africa, apparently — and he got a lot more than he bargained for when he ordered room service to his hotel room… if you know what I mean. (And if you don’t, he and Spencer had sex.)

* At Aria and Ezra’s rehearsal dinner, the #PLLMoms reminisced about old times — like when they were trapped in the wine cellar for what I imagine was a large portion of the Season 6 time jump. (“You know Pam didn’t drink for a year after that?”)

* After getting caught consorting with Emily’s mom, Alison revealed that she was planning a big romantic proposal — which, as Ali noted, did not include the pug sweatshirt she was currently wearing. But Ali’s never been one to let fashion get in her way, so she still delivered the proposal of a lifetime, complete with Emily’s grandmother’s wedding ring. And she said yes!

* That’s when things went completely off the rails: Following Mary Drake’s escape from prison, Spencer was kidnapped by Mona, only to wake up in a mysterious bunker with… her evil twin! That’s right, Spencer has a twin named Alex Drake, who didn’t know a damn thing about her relatives in Rosewood until Wren met her at a bar in London. And it turns out Alex has been in Rosewood for quite some time; not only did she sleep with Toby a few episodes earlier, but she was also the one Ezra saw talking to Wren at the airport a few weeks ago.

* During a brief Q&A session in the bunker, Alex told Spencer to what degree each of the A-Team members were working for her. Sydney, for example, was a “one-off,” while Charlotte — her true half-sister — was a much more integral part of her plan. Perhaps the biggest surprise from this info dump was that Archer pursued Alison on his own after linking up with Mary Drake. (Also, Alex said that even though she paid for Jenna’s eye surgery, she’s “still blind as a bat.”)

* Despite that apparent blindness, it was Jenna who helped Toby figure out that Spencer was actually Alex. And Emily definitely wins the award for Best Reaction: “Out of all the insane theories we’ve jumped to, Spencer having an evil twin has got to be the most insane.”

* Following a nasty scuffle with Alex in the bunker, the Liars emerged victorious and lived to see Aria and Ezra finally tie the knot. And for Hanna to reveal that she’s pregnant! And for Marlene King to make an epic cameo!

* The final moments found Mona running a creepy doll shop in Paris, naturally, though it wasn’t the merchandise that made it such a special place. No, that would be Mona’s secret basement dollhouse, where Alex and Mary Drake will likely live out the rest of their days like living dolls.

* And the final final moments cut to a group of girls enjoying a sleepover on a stormy summer night, only to have their fun interrupted by one of them going missing! (That’s right, ladies and gentlemen — it’s all happening… again.)

OK, time to discuss: Did the finale answer enough of your burning questions? Were you satisfied by the overall ending? Grade the episode below, then drop a comment with your full review.

2 Broke Girls' Lost Season 7 Casting Surprise: Cher as Max's MIA Mother https://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-lost-season-7-casting-surprise-cher-as-maxs-mia-mother/ https://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-lost-season-7-casting-surprise-cher-as-maxs-mia-mother/#respond Sat, 13 May 2017 06:19:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-lost-season-7-casting-surprise-cher-as-maxs-mia-mother/

If only they could turn back time…

The Powers That Be behind 2 Broke Girls, which was cancelled by CBS late Friday after six seasons, had been in very preliminary discussions with Cher to guest star in a potential seventh season as the MIA mother of Kat Dennings’ Max, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The character was originally intended to debut at the end of the series’ just-wrapped sixth (and now final) season, but exec producer Michelle Nader confirmed to TVLine at the time that casting issues forced them to delay her arrival. “We didn’t find the right person,” Nader said. “We’ve waited a long time to [meet her], so it’s got to be somebody amazing.”

Sources tell TVLine that there are no current plans to find 2 Broke Girls a new home, which means we’ll likely never get to see Cher (or any other actress) play Max’s mom. It’s probably little consolation, but TVLine has obtained the original casting breakdown for the role. The notice was released prior to Season 6’s 18th episode, which is when Max was originally slated to be reunited with her mom.

[DIANE KING]Late 40s-70s, she’s Max Black’s mother. She’s an attractive woman who will never tell you her age, or the whole truth. She’s incredibly charming and very street smart. You see where Max gets it. LOOKING FOR RECOGNIZABLE NAMES/FACES. GUEST STAR

2 Broke Girls Boss Insists Monday's Finale 'Is Not the End for These Girls' https://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-boss-insists-mondays-finale-is-not-the-end-for-these-girls/ https://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-boss-insists-mondays-finale-is-not-the-end-for-these-girls/#respond Sat, 15 Apr 2017 21:48:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/2-broke-girls-boss-insists-mondays-finale-is-not-the-end-for-these-girls/

Is CBS about to cash out on its 2 Broke Girls investment?

The long-running sitcom is heading into its Season 6 finale without a renewal in its back pocket, and oddsmakers say the series has an even-money chance of returning next fall.

One thing’s for certain: Monday’s closer (9:30/8:30c) was not designed as a series finale, maintains co-showrunner Michelle Nader.

“This is not the end for these girls,” the EP insists. “We’re not finished and we don’t want to be finished and I don’t think the audience is finished. Obviously there’s no guarantee that we will be back, but we did not write the episode as a series finale.”

That said, Monday’s outing — which revolves around the premiere of Caroline’s biopic — features a fairly momentous turning point for Max (which may or may not involve the return of her estranged ex, Randy). “This season for us was kind of… I don’t want to say a reboot, but we kind of think of the show as just beginning in a way,” Nader notes. “With the girls [becoming] successful and finding love, it’s opened up a whole new world for us.”

Nader remains “hopeful” that CBS will commission a seventh season, adding, “We have creative urge to continue to do the show. CBS has been really supportive of us and so we believe that they’ll want to see more of these girls.”

Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel on Revival's Big Rory Twist: 'It Was Hard to Digest' https://briefnews.eu/gilmore-girls-alexis-bledel-on-revivals-big-rory-twist-it-was-hard-to-digest/ https://briefnews.eu/gilmore-girls-alexis-bledel-on-revivals-big-rory-twist-it-was-hard-to-digest/#respond Mon, 10 Apr 2017 23:26:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/gilmore-girls-alexis-bledel-on-revivals-big-rory-twist-it-was-hard-to-digest/

Alexis Bledel suffered a mild case of whiplash when she learned what those infamous final four words were.

At Sunday’s Emmy-themed Contenders event, presented by TVLine’s sister site Deadline, the actress shared for the first time her feelings about Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life‘s twisty climax, which revealed Rory to be pregnant.

“It certainly wasn’t the ending I expected,” Bledel admitted. “I had told [series creator] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] that I hoped Rory would end on a high note after all of her hard work. I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.”

However, Bledel — who will next be seen in Hulu’s series adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale (bowing April 26) — conceded that the bombshell was quintessential AS-P. “She knew what reaction she was going to get out of the audience. She’s delighted by throwing everyone a curveball. I knew that’s what she wanted and [so] I just trusted her.”

Bledel’s TV mom, Lauren Graham, had an easier time wrapping her head around the baby reveal. “I thought it was perfect, in terms of bringing the characters full circle… It took me a minute, but, ultimately I loved it.”

Of course, as Graham acknowledged, the surprise sent the franchise out on an unresolved note. “That wasn’t an ending,” she remarked with a chuckle. “That was a cliffhanger.”
