For years, Fletcher has drank Canada Dry to soothe her and her kids’ stomach aches, because the can says it’s made with ginger, a natural cure for nausea and other ailments.
The lawsuit cites lab testing that shows that ginger is not a significant ingredient in Canada Dry, making up less than two parts per million of the soft drink.
Dr. Pepper Snapple Group did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment on the suit.

The soft drink’s parent company, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group (DPSG), was hit with a new lawsuit earlier this month, by a woman who claims she was misled about the potential health benefits of the ginger-flavored drink. 

While Canada Dry’s bottles and cans say it’s “Made from Real Ginger,” the lawsuit cites lab testing that shows the drink doesn’t contain “‘real ginger’ as reasonable consumers understand that term.”

Prince Harry, 33, is engaged to Meghan Markle, 36, and an expert believes the actress has influenced his eyebrows routine.

The ginger royal has naturally pale, fine eyebrows, which blend in with his pale skin – but his brows look much darker in recent photos.

This was noticeable yesterday when Prince Harry was said to raise his eyebrows at Meghan following a performance by Liam Payne.

James Long, elite stylist at HD Brows, believes Harry has a treatment done to his eyebrows in order to change his appearance, which is particularly common among women.

He believes the royal has used a combination of shaping and colouring to give his brows a new, striking appearance.

“When it comes to Prince Harry’s beauty regime, he has kept things to a minimum. The changes that he has made to his eyebrows have gone fairly unnoticed, however when you compare recent pictures to those from a few years there is a difference.”

“The prince has kept his brows in a similar shape, but has opted for a slight tidy up using the tweezers, creating a cleaner but less obvious result than other hair removal techniques such as waxing or threading.”

“His brow style is very natural and textured, but the area in-between the brows and low on the lid have been tidied up to achieve a well-groomed look.”

While the tidying up has contributed to the change, James believes the biggest difference is from a change in Harry’s eyebrow colour achieved through dyeing.

“The biggest change in Harry’s brows is quite noticeably the colour,” explained the brow expert.

“Rather than opting for a bold tint, I believe he has instead introduced a colour-wash, a technique used within the HD Brows treatment where the tint is applied on the skin and is brushed through the brow to give the most natural looking finish.”

What’s more, James believes Harry’s makeover shows the influence of fianceé Meghan on his grooming routine. 

“Harry’s change in brow grooming is reflective of Meghan’s- who also opts for a groomed but natural look.

“When it comes to her brows, Meghan already has a good shape, and sports a full and slightly angled brow to frame her face.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding will cost £24m for the taxpayers, it was recently revealed.

The wedding at Windsor Castle could see taxpayers stuck with a £24 million security bill as costs for protecting the Queen and the Royal Family soar.

We will never know whether Blyton’s first readers were more gripped by her story of treasure seeking and shipwreck, or its picnic hampers tantalisingly heaped with pre-war goodies such as “ginger cake made with black treacle… dark brown and sticky to eat”. 

Blyton planned six Famous Five stories but went on to write 21 by 1963. In all of them, her fearless teenage adventurers eat their way through impressive quantities of ice cream, scones, sticky buns and cakes, apple pies, jelly and blancmange. Their staple diet has become as dated as everything else about these vintage children’s stories: meals of hard-boiled eggs, cold ham and tongue, home-grown lettuce, tomatoes and beetroot, pickles made by obliging farmers’ wives. Blyton’s first wartime readers must have salivated.

By 1942 40-something Blyton was a well-known author. She had published her first book 20 years earlier, a collection of poetry called Child Whispers. Since 1926 she had edited a series of children’s magazines, writing all of the stories herself. This experience stood her in good stead. It was writing magazine serials that taught her the value of a cliff-hanger ending. In the Famous Five stories she put this talent to use time and again. Chapter after chapter ends with the teasing promise of excitement just around the corner.

From the outset it was a winning formula. By 1950, Enid Blyton’s income was so enormous that she was forced to set up a company to deal with her business affairs.

Estimates suggest that British readers buy one of Enid Blyton’s books every minute. Across the world her 700 titles have sold in excess of 500 million copies. In a survey by Costa Book Awards to find Britain’s best-loved author, Blyton beat Jane Austen, Roald Dahl and JK Rowling. 

The secret of her appeal isn’t hard to unravel. In the world of the Famous Five it’s always the school holidays. Thanks to an inexhaustible supply of adventures, boredom hardly exists as a concept.

George – based on Blyton herself – may be a firebrand with a flaming temper and thunderous sulks, Anne is easily terrified and quick to cry, and Julian can be remarkably pompous for a schoolboy but the children are never happier than when they are with Timmy the dog and, preferably, no adults. 

And what a lot of time they spend in an adult-free world. None of the children’s parents thinks twice about holidaying without them. Despite all four children going to boarding school their parents show little desire to spend the holidays together. Instead the children are cast on their own resources. Without television or the electronic devices that have distracted subsequent generations they rise splendidly to the challenge. They discover adventures in ruined castles and sandy coves, ancient farmhouses and underground tunnels. 

Blyton was a skilful storyteller. Even in her lifetime she was criticised for her simple vocabulary and even simpler characterisation but she understood that a child’s main requirement from a story was plot. 

The Famous Five stories are tightly plotted and fast-paced. Blyton pits her heroes against an assortment of baddies. Even when their opponents are hardened criminals the Five are never outwitted. It’s the message every child craves, a child-centred world in which the children emerge on top.

More than this the Famous Five win their battles without ever resorting to bad behaviour. Enid Blyton had trained as a teacher before becoming a full-time writer and the moral of her books is a straightforward one: rewards for honesty and punishments for dishonesty. 

JULIAN, Dick, Anne and George are united in their dislike of sneaks and snitches and thieves. The boys hate what they call “awful swotters”. Showing off and bad manners are serious offences. In Five Fall Into Adventure, Dick has a bet with Ragamuffin Jo that he can spit damson stones further than she can. Watching them, tomboy George is “most astonished”: “How very shocking to see who could spit damson stones out the farthest.” 

The world of the Famous Five is one of freedom and lots and lots of fresh air. For 75 years the stories have appealed for these reasons and not only to country children able to roam and run wild.

Imagine facing prison just for reading a book! As it’s World Book Day, we’re taking a look at some well-known novels that have been banned.

Enid Blyton’s readers are as likely to live in flats without gardens as the modern version of Kirrin Cottage, where George lives with her parents and Joan the cook. Children don’t need to go to boarding school or, like George, have a famous scientist for a father to become hooked by Blyton’s stories. Enid Blyton once claimed that she could see “a private cinema screen inside my head”. She wrote at incredible speed, sometimes 10,000 words a day, on a portable typewriter perched on her knee. The Famous Five stories reveal her fertile imagination. 

Their background of private islands, unspoilt beaches, shadowy dungeons and rolling green countryside is as magical as the yarns she spins. 

That this world has mostly vanished and few parents would allow their children to wander willy-nilly along lanes and hills and coastline only increases the books’ escapist fascination for today’s children, many of whom have never tasted homemade lemonade or Blyton’s trademark ginger beer. 

Yes, there are aspects of the Famous Five stories that make parents’ toes curl. There are plenty of reasons for considering Blyton sexist, snobbish and racist, as well as a fairly second-rate writer. That she excelled as a storyteller is beyond doubt. Seventy-five years on the Famous Five stories continue to teach children not only how to dream but just how exciting childhood can be.
