Google Maps is known for capturing some odd images of the world, and this one is no accepting.

A seemingly mundane island in a pond has taken on a rather horrifying form.

The small green island in on Bainbridge Island near Seattle seems to have been possessed by the face of a frightening demon.

Found on NE West Port Madison Road near West Port Madison, the face appears in a pond near a large family home.

The face seems to have an alien look about it, enhanced by the greenery of the island.

However, on closer inspection, it seems that the shape of a face has been created by the foliage.

A more recent image from Google Maps’ satellite shows the island has had some TLC.

Now the shape is more defined and grasses have grown thicker.

A bridge also seems to have been created from the little island to the mainland.

One famous haunted island is said to be Poveglia in Chicago.

The small strip of land is where those who were infected with the plague sent to die in 1381. It is thought 500 men, women and children died per day on the island during this time.

Other supposedly haunted islands include Hart Island in New York, where the largest tax-funded cemetery in the world is located and Deadman’s Island in Vancouver. This island was declared “dead ground” by native Chief Capilano when it was first invaded by white settlers, thanks to rival tribes warring there.

Another strange Google Maps sighting has been thought to be proof of aliens by some.

The strange circular piece of land could be a UFO hiding place for aliens.

A woman has been caught on Google Maps flashing the car zooming past.

It was taken in Illinois, a midwestern state in Chicago – one of the largest cities in the USA.

The woman is stood at the side of a road, lifting her vest top up with both hands.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

Dancing On Ice 2018 HAUNTED: Holly Willoughby's HORROR as ghostly studio sighting revealed https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-haunted-holly-willoughbys-horror-as-ghostly-studio-sighting-revealed/ https://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-haunted-holly-willoughbys-horror-as-ghostly-studio-sighting-revealed/#respond Sun, 21 Jan 2018 16:03:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/dancing-on-ice-2018-haunted-holly-willoughbys-horror-as-ghostly-studio-sighting-revealed/

The show moved to a base at Bovingdon Airfield in Hemel Hempstead, which is filled with derelict buildings and has been home to a number of unexplained incidents over the years.

Several visitors to the area have been left terrified by a “mysterious mist” that follows and engulfs people.

The area was also investigated by the International Paranormal Society who believe the place is haunted by the ghosts of US airmen who were stationed there.

An entry on Waymarking location review reveals: “The mist has been seen by several people.

“They say it suddenly appears and is so thick you can’t see through it.

“One person is rumoured to have seen it late at night on the runway.”

The insider continued that the mist even followed and engulfed a group of friends.

“Some friends of his were waiting in a car six metres away and they said it followed him. It was engulfing him,” they explained.

“The victim found that he could not see through the mist to the car nor could be hear his companions calling out to him.

“In another incident, one driver saw another vehicle get engulfed in the mist.”

Dog walkers have also reported a “presence” that causes their animals to howl and try to run away.

Other passersby have claimed to hear the sounds of aircraft and Morse code, along with a “strange bubblegum smell”.

Rumours are rife that the US Air Force left vehicles abandoned in an underground chamber at the site.

Those who work on the show now fear that a paranormal incident could happen while live on air.

An insider said: “It’s likely many of the contestants and professional skaters have no idea they are performing somewhere that’s rumoured to be haunted.

“If the claims are to believed there’s a good chance something could happen during rehearsals or even while the show is on air.”

continues tonight on at 6pm.

Holospark’s Séance: The Unquiet delivers ghostly VR entertainment https://briefnews.eu/holosparks-seance-the-unquiet-delivers-ghostly-vr-entertainment/ https://briefnews.eu/holosparks-seance-the-unquiet-delivers-ghostly-vr-entertainment/#respond Mon, 25 Dec 2017 08:08:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/holosparks-seance-the-unquiet-delivers-ghostly-vr-entertainment/

Virtual reality is taking off a little slow, but the team at Holospark is practicing its VR storytelling skills so that it can deliver cinematic moments the way that the best movies and games do.

The Bellevue, Washington-based VR studio has a half-dozen people on a Séance: The Unquiet, a ghost story set in VR. It hired a couple of actors for a demo that turned out to be both dramatic and spooky. Holospark is working on a ghost story for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets. The team is using the Unreal game engine and the latest in Hollywood performance capture technology to create cinematic storytelling.

Séance will be a ghost story with characters, drama, scares, and dramatic music. I saw a demo of it and I was impressed with the detailed touches. The lip-syncing was good, and the eyes of the characters followed my own when I looked at them. The female character is like a fortune teller, and she gets into your personal space, as she sits across the table from you, as she tells you about a dream she has.

“It shows you the power of the medium,” said Bruce Sharp, VR art director at Holospark, in an interview with GamesBeat. “When they get in your personal space, it gets uncomfortable.”

“That deepens your connection with the characters,” said Séance co-creator John Scott Tynes, who is executive producer on the project.

You’ll be rewarded if you interact with the actors by looking from one face to another. For instance, one might wink at you while the other is talking. Or maybe you can raise your glass in a toast when the characters ask you to do so. The intent is to make the character look more realistic the closer the person is to you in the 3D space of VR.

“We want to work on characters who feel present and deliver an emotional performance like you haven’t seen before in VR,” said Sharp. “We capture the performance of the actors and make it feel real. The characters see you and react to you. We think the character presence will make this into mainstream entertainment.”

Sharp and Tynes think of their upcoming VR creation not so much as a video game but as a new medium. It’s more like an episodic TV show in VR.

“We want to create dynamic moments of interactivity, like a ghost passing through you,” Tynes said. “We used two veteran actors and captured it, put it into the Unreal system, and they will make you feel a part of a studio. It’s built from the ground up for this new medium.”

Holospark previously created The Impossible Travel Agency, which combines classical music and other worldly visuals in VR.

“VR is like an amplifier of immersion and talent,” Sharp said.

Tynes is optimistic about VR because Facebook plans to launch its $ 200 Oculus Go headset in 2018, helping to bring down the price of VR to mass market levels.

“We’re eyeing holiday 2019 as a time when the second and third-generation VR devices hit the market and reach a mainstream audience,” Tynes said. “We see an opportunity to do awesome entertainment, like a TV series in VR. It will be immersive and accessible to people, much like they just access a TV series on Netflix.”

So far, Séance is just a demo, but it looks pretty good. Holospark has been playing with the ideas for storytelling in VR for a couple of years.

The studio has a long way to go, but I liked what they’ve shown me so far. They’re looking to find partners to help them create this new kind of entertainment. With adequate funding, Séance could turn into a bigger project.

“When you think about it, when Darth Vader cuts off Luke Skywalker’s hand in Star Wars, the person with the best view of the action is the actor,” Sharp said. “And you can get that kind of view in anything except VR.”

The PC Gaming channel is presented by Intel®‘s Game Dev program.

Google Maps captures a GHOSTLY figure in the street – but is it all as it seems? https://briefnews.eu/google-maps-captures-a-ghostly-figure-in-the-street-but-is-it-all-as-it-seems/ https://briefnews.eu/google-maps-captures-a-ghostly-figure-in-the-street-but-is-it-all-as-it-seems/#respond Sun, 17 Dec 2017 15:32:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/google-maps-captures-a-ghostly-figure-in-the-street-but-is-it-all-as-it-seems/

Google Maps has revealed some very confusing sights from around the world.

From crop circles to UFOs, paranormal activity is rife when searching Google Maps.

Eagle-eyed users also spotted a baffling image taken in Munich.

A ghostly figure can be spotted crossing the road.

The Street View car shows a human body encased in white, appearing to be from another world.

Of course, it isn’t a ghost at all and is instead simply a woman crossing the street.

However, viewers were amused by her bid to colour co-ordinate her entire look, with white hair, white clothes and white shoes.

Even her handbag is white as she aims to go chic in the strong tone.

Another woman was caught in an embarrassing situation albeit of a different nature.

Spotted on a beach in Mexico was a young lady in a bikini who is relaxing by the sea.

She is caught departing a jet-ski, no doubt after enjoying the water sports around the water.

Suddenly, she is caught running away in fear.

The seagulls fly towards her at speed, despite appearing rather tame in previous images.

In fear, the poor bikini woman clutches her hair as she appears to be frightened of the birds and runs away.

Thankfully she takes shelter underneath a gazebo on the beach, looking much calmer as she seeks refuge.

The birds then fly off to terrorise other beachgoers.

Sylvio 2 Disturbs With Ghostly Voices In Bleak Halls https://briefnews.eu/sylvio-2-disturbs-with-ghostly-voices-in-bleak-halls/ https://briefnews.eu/sylvio-2-disturbs-with-ghostly-voices-in-bleak-halls/#respond Wed, 11 Oct 2017 23:41:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sylvio-2-disturbs-with-ghostly-voices-in-bleak-halls/ ss_3b2634a86a09184e8726436a8ead9f3a973fd722.1920x1080.jpg

Juliette Waters awakens in an empty apartment complex, surrounded by otherworldly voices whispering in the shadows,
in Sylvio 2. With a useful EVP recorder, players will have to capture what they’re hearing in the gloom around them, picking up clues, threats, and other sinister words spoken by the ghosts of the long dead.

Players are on the lookout for their missing boyfriend (who is supposed to be out looking for you), who is out somewhere in the flooded Saginaw Park. From the confines of the old, abandoned apartment complex to the open, water-logged park, players will go around these unsettling places, capturing the voices of ghosts hissing in the air. By figuring out what the phantoms are trying to say, they’ll unveil the lost, sad histories of these places, as well as hopefully find their missing loved one.

Ghosts don’t just come out and say things, though. Like in the original Sylvio, players will have to slow down, speed up, or reverse the recording to hear what is being said, slowly picking up on the garbled voices and their meanings as they work. Doing so while sitting in a dark room, the eyes of the paintings and pictures on the wall peering at you, promises an eerie experience, one heavy on frightening atmosphere.

Sylvio 2 is available for $ 14.99 on Steam. For more information on the game and developer Stroboskop, you can head to the game’s site or follow them on YouTube and Twitter.

Ghostly Photos of a Sunken Italian Cruise Ship https://briefnews.eu/ghostly-photos-of-a-sunken-italian-cruise-ship/ https://briefnews.eu/ghostly-photos-of-a-sunken-italian-cruise-ship/#respond Sun, 09 Jul 2017 20:31:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ghostly-photos-of-a-sunken-italian-cruise-ship/ The Costa Concordia was an Italian cruise ship that cost $ 570 million to build. In 2012, the ship made contact with an underwater rock and capsized hours later, claiming the lives of at least 30 people. The wreckage off the Tuscan coast became a metaphor for Italy’s corrupt and unstable economy and politics. Director Paolo Sorrentino alludes to this in his stunning 2013 film The Great Beauty.

The ship continues to be a point of fascination. Photographer Jonathan Danko Kielkowski, who we first learned about on Peta Pixel, recently went aboard the ship to document the wreckage. He writes on his website:

The sinking of the Costa Concordia, which occurred almost exactly 100 years after the Titanic, is often interpreted as a portent for the ongoing European crisis. It was August 2014 when I decided to swim onboard the remains of the Costa Concordia and document what was left after the ship was under water for over two and a half years and before the dismantling process started.

Kielkowski collected his photos of the Costa Concordia in a book published by White Press. See a preview in our gallery.

Staff Picks: Ghostly Records ‘Opiate’ Compilation, David E. Williams’ ‘Hospice Chorale,’ PJ Harvey’s “I’ll Be Waiting” https://briefnews.eu/staff-picks-ghostly-records-opiate-compilation-david-e-williams-hospice-chorale-pj-harveys-ill-be-waiting/ https://briefnews.eu/staff-picks-ghostly-records-opiate-compilation-david-e-williams-hospice-chorale-pj-harveys-ill-be-waiting/#respond Wed, 31 May 2017 21:29:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/staff-picks-ghostly-records-opiate-compilation-david-e-williams-hospice-chorale-pj-harveys-ill-be-waiting/ Need a great book to read, album to listen to, or TV show to get hooked on? The Flavorwire team is here to help: in this weekly feature, our editorial staffers recommend the cultural object or experience they’ve enjoyed most in the past seven days. Scroll through for our picks below.

PJ Harvey’s “I’ll Be Waiting”

This song’s been haunting me for a bit. Released alongside another track — “A Dog Called Money” — back in late April, it sounds unassuming, sweet, and innocuous. But, similar to much of 2011’s Let England Shake, the implications of PJ Harvey’s lyrics here work in opposition to the sound, as Harvey sends a horrific take on the cyclicality of war on the carrier pigeon of her most lullaby-like track.

Where her last album, Hope Six Demolition Project was more bombastic and sonically warlike in its arrangements, “I’ll Be Waiting” sees Harvey stripping down to nothing but guitar and the faint backing vocals of her numerous bandmates. It took me a couple of listens to fall in love with this track — the simple, fable-like first person account at first seemed trivially folksy. But take that against the fact that this is an artist who wrote furiously sexual Rid of Me and To Bring You My Love, the electronically bluesy gloom of Is This Desire, the karaoke-worthy yet gritty as fuck Stories From the City, the choked antiquity of White Chalk, and the impressionistic WWI nightmare of Let England Shake: “going acoustic” is itself a form of experimentalism for Harvey.

As in most of her tracks, Harvey here certainly isn’t narrating from the point of view of Harvey. This song is a deliberately vague tale of revenge and radicalization, and Harvey sings as a child whose family, town, and entire life have been demolished: “They swept across the land/They did not leave a thing/They did not leave a person/A stone or a tree/They did not leave anything/All it’s left is sand,” she croons, repeating the latter. The narrator turns to “hat[ing] everyone,” proclaims that “thorns shall grow from [the] graves” of those who were killed. Then, in a morbid twist on time-traversing folk classics like Joni Mitchell’s “The Circle Game,” Harvey repeats most of the lyrics of from the beginning, replacing “they” with “I.” “And when they return/I will be waiting/I will not leave a person/Standing/I will not leave anything/All I’ll leave is sand.” It’s almost stupidly simple — just like human patterns of violence and retaliation — and its horrifying prettiness shows just how easy it is to get caught up in it.  — Moze Halperin, Senior Editor

Opiate

This week’s pick is one from a few years back; 2013, to be precise. It’s a record called simply Opiate, and it’s the fourth in Ghostly Records’ excellent SMM series, which involve compilations of various artists’ work around loose, nebulous themes. The uniting factor in all the SMM releases is that their music eschews melody almost entirely, focusing instead on sound design, atmospherics, and ambient composition. Opiate is… well, it’s a perfect evocation of the drugs that give the compilation its name, without all the nasty IRL complications. Across the course of nine tracks, the compilation gives you the sense of a slow descent into a place of peaceful, colorless emptiness, and then a gentle ascent back into the world, just as the first light of day peeps through the curtains. It’s intoxicatingly beautiful. — Tom Hawking, Editor-in-Chief

[Disclaimer: I was invited to write the press release for this album on its release, which is how I discovered its charms.]

David E. Williams’ Hospice Chorale

David E. Williams, who you might know through his collaboration with Christian Death’s Rozz Williams or his Philadelphia band Destroying Angel (full disclosure: I know Williams as the former proprietor of the now-closed Germ Books in Philadelphia), just released his seventh full-length album Hospice Chorale. It finds Williams as the troubadour narrator once more, distilling classical, goth, post-industrial, and dark cabaret down to his own brand of gut-punch nihilism, gallows humor, and expressionist wordplay. It’s lyrical, cathartic, and absurd — featuring the only song you’ll hear this year about a man who yearns to be a horse. — Alison Nastasi, Weekend Editor

The Logan Lucky Trailer

I’ve reached a point as a moviegoer where – unless, obviously, I’m writing about it for you, dear reader – I skip trailers of pretty much anything I definitely do or don’t want to see, since they’re not going to change my mind either way (and if it’s something I already want to see, I’d rather go in cold). But I have to admit, I couldn’t resist taking that first peek at Steven Soderbergh’s first feature in four years, and have probably queued it up a time or five since. It’s just a blast, a quick jolt of the energy and style that was so embedded in Soderbergh’s style, and that’s been so sorely missing from much of mainstream moviemaking in the years since. Yet even this shot of joy ends in melancholy – I can’t see this until August?!? — Jason Bailey, Film Editor

Les Figues Press

Today is the last day to buy books 50% off from Les Figues Press. Try Jessica Bozek’s The Tales, told from the point of view of a lone survivor (“stitching together a post-apocalyptic history from the scraps of fairy tales, war memorials, hunting songs, and disparate scholarship”), Divya Victor‘s Things To Do With Your Mouth, which explores the physical and metaphorical silencing of women, and Dodie Bellamy’s Cunt Norton, which is on my to-read list and should be bought for the title alone. — Alison Nastasi, Weekend Editor
