Ghostbusters 3 PLOT details surface as original stars Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson respond https://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-3-plot-details-surface-as-original-stars-dan-aykroyd-and-ernie-hudson-respond/ https://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-3-plot-details-surface-as-original-stars-dan-aykroyd-and-ernie-hudson-respond/#respond Thu, 17 Jan 2019 10:01:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-3-plot-details-surface-as-original-stars-dan-aykroyd-and-ernie-hudson-respond/

It’s been over 30 years since the original team starred in Ghostbusters II. Since then there’s been animated series, video games, a 2016 female-led reboot and Egon star Harold Ramis sadly died. But now o, one that will hopefully see the return of the surviving original cast who cameoed in the 2016 film. And now Production Weekly has unveiled that filming will take place in late Spring or Summer of this year.

Ghostbusters 3’s casting and plot have also been teased in the project notes.

According to Pursue News, it reads: “The main characters will be 4 teens: 2 boys, 2 girls.

“A family moves back home to a small town where they learn more about who they are.”

The outlet speculates these teenagers could be the children of the original Ghostbusters team.

Meanwhile, Aykroyd and Hudson shared the first teaser trailer for the film, on Twitter.

Aykroyd wrote: “If you need a tune-up, you know who to call.”

While Hudson added: “Bigger than a 100-ft marshmallow man!”

It certainly looks like these two, and hopefully, Murray will reprise their roles

Speaking on AXS TV’s The Big Interview, he said: “There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters.

“It’s being written right now… I think Billy will come.

“The story’s so good. Even if he plays a ghost.”

Ghostbusters 3 is set for release in Summer 2020.

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

Fire up your proton packs, people, because there’s going to be another Ghostbusters movie from Sony Pictures, according to Entertainment Weekly. Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) will direct the new film, which will be set in the same fictional universe as the 1984 original and its sequel—unlike Paul Feige’s 2016 all-female Ghostbusters.

Reitman is a fitting choice, seeing as how he’s the son of Ivan Reitman, director of the 1980s films. You may have glimpsed Jason, his mother, and his sister in the original Ghostbusters, as residents fleeing their haunted skyscraper. Jason even had a line in the 1989 sequel: he was the birthday boy who told the ‘Busters, “My dad says you guys are full of crap.”

Reitman resisted following in his father’s footsteps for years, but it seems he’s finally succumbing to the call. “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman told EW. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

ghostbusters reboot sequel

I’ll go to bat for 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer the Call being a funny studio comedy, but there’s no question it didn’t perform nearly as well as Sony hoped. A sequel seems to have been fully abandoned at this point, and on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, director Paul Feig confirmed his plans to take the story international if they had gotten the green light to move ahead with it:

“I definitely wanted us to go to another country. Because when we were doing the press tour, the international press tour, every country the reporters would come with these drawings or artist renderings of that country’s ghosts. And every country has these really wild ghost stories and ghost characters that they scare kids with or keep people in line with. I really loved the idea of the Ghostbusters going to, like, Asia. Yeah, so there’s a lot of fun stuff that we could have done.”

Meanwhile, despite a godawful marketing campaign and trailers that made the movie look downright terrible, Feig’s 2015 comedy Spy is one of the funniest action comedies I’ve ever seen. So will we ever see a sequel? Probably not, considering 20th Century Fox isn’t interested:

“They’re on the third Kingsman movie, I love the Kingsman movies, that’s the same studio. They made more money than we did, but we didn’t not make money. We made pretty good money. We made $ 235 million worldwide, that’s pretty good on a $ 65 million budget—you always wish it was higher. But yeah, they just didn’t wanna do it, and now the moment may be passed, I don’t know. But I’m really proud of it.”

That’s unfortunate. Maybe someone at Disney is a huge Spy fan, and a greenlit sequel to that underrated movie will be one of the silver linings of the Disney/Fox acquisition?

Starting soon and getting very excited … The world may be changing but not him. NOTHING IS OVER!

A post shared by Sly Stallone (@officialslystallone) on

Sylvester Stallone has teased that filming begins “soon” on Rambo 5, a movie that’s been in some form of development for about a decade. But I must admit, rather than kicking up my interest in another Rambo sequel, Stallone’s caption makes me want to see a series of sketches that features him bursting into various situations screaming “NOTHING IS OVER!” at inappropriate times.

A post shared by David Leitch (@davidmleitch) on

We’ve already written about star Dwayne Johnson sharing the first photo of filming on the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw, and now director David Leitch is getting in on the action as well. Gotta love the bull vs. lion imagery on the slate, too. I wonder if that design is just a fun little thing for the crew, or if it’ll actually be incorporated into the movie itself?

Universal Pictures has released a new featurette for their upcoming Halloween sequel, and it features interviews with franchise mastermind John Carpenter, star Jamie Lee Curtis, and more. /Film’s Chris Evangelista caught a screening of the film at the Toronto International Film Festival, and you can read his review here.

In a recent interview with Forbes, producer Jason Blum shot down a rumor that he wasn’t interested in making a sequel to Halloween.

“I’d love to do sequels, and I hope we do a sequel and we will do a sequel if the movie performs. We’re not going to decide if we do a sequel or not until we see the reaction to this movie. But I really hope to make it.”

Blum also mentioned he would like to work on new installments of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but the rights issues with those properties are so complicated that it may never happen.

“I’ve always wanted to do another Nacho Libre,” actor Jack Black said on a recent episode of the UK’s The Jonathan Ross Show. Are any fans of the original interested in a sequel at this point? It’s been twelve years since the first one came out and it’s not exactly a movie that screamed “franchise potential.” But stranger things have happened, so we’ll see if Black’s wish ever pans out.

British actor Vinnie Jones (X-Men 3) is going to star in Vengeance 2, a sequel to a DTV action thriller called I Am Vengeance that just came out this month. Deadline says he’ll play “lead villain Sean Teague, a former elite special-forces operator turned rogue mercenary.” Former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett plays the hero in a story of double-crosses, snipers, and, of course, revenge.

Paul Feig Still Wants a ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot Sequel https://briefnews.eu/paul-feig-still-wants-a-ghostbusters-reboot-sequel/ https://briefnews.eu/paul-feig-still-wants-a-ghostbusters-reboot-sequel/#respond Tue, 01 May 2018 07:54:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/paul-feig-still-wants-a-ghostbusters-reboot-sequel/ ghostbusters reboot sequel

Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters reboot was a lot of fun, even though some people got very Mad Online™ about the whole endeavor. Sony was hoping the reboot would launch a whole new franchise, but not-so-great box office seems to have killed that. Still, Feig says he’s definitely open to directing a Ghostbusters reboot sequel should Sony give the idea the go-ahead.

I really enjoyed Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Sure, it was nowhere near as good as the original, but it was a funny, entertaining film featuring a compelling cast (especially Kate McKinnon). Feig’s film ends with a post-credit scene that teases a possible sequel, but the sequel never materialized. Sony’s dreams for a new franchise were essentially busted after Feig’s reboot failed to do the mammoth box office numbers the studio had been hoping for. So will we ever see a Ghostbusters sequel? Who knows! According to Paul Feig, that’s really up to the studio. But should they require his services for Ghostbusters 2, he’s more than ready to answer the call. Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, Feig said:

“We would love to; it’s really up to the studio to want to do it. We had so much fun making that movie. The movie’s just really built an audience in the two years since it’s been out. I get contacted every day by people who are such fans of it, and so many women who are inspired by seeing women in science. I will go to my grave so proud of that movie, and so proud of what that cast did in that film.”

In case you’ve forgotten, Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot updated the story to the present day, and focused on a team of female ghost hunters instead of male. For some reason, many, many people online were upset about this, and launched an angry backlash campaign against the film. Despite this backlash, the film wasn’t an outright flop. It took in a worldwide total of $ 229,147,509, per Box Office Mojo. But Sony, who spent a reported $ 144 million on the film, had hoped for a lot more.

Feig has commented on the film and its surprising backlash multiple times in the past. “It was a great regret in my life that the movie didn’t do better, ’cause I really loved it,” he previously said. “It’s not a perfect movie. None of my movies are perfect. I liked what we were doing with it. It was only supposed to be there to entertain people.”

The filmmaker has also previously expressed similar hopes for a sequel, saying in November 2016:

“That’s up to the studio because they have to pay for it. Nobody’s called me. But I love those characters and I know they are now heroes and mean a lot to a lot of people, so in a perfect world it would be great if we could see them bust more ghosts, kick more ass, and be awesome again.”

Perhaps one day Sony will give Feig’s Ghostbusters sequel a chance. Or perhaps not.

  • Speaking of Creed 2, check out a cool Creed 2 fan poster below
  • Oh did someone say Creed 2? Dolph Lundgren reveals why he returned for Creed 2

ryan coogler creed 2

Ryan Coogler is on top of the world now thanks to the smashing success of Black Panther. Coogler’s film before Panther was Creed, and while it would’ve been nice to have the filmmaker back for Creed 2, Coogler says it just wasn’t in the cards. Speaking with Variety‘s Playback podcast, the director said timing got in the way of helming the sequel:

“I mean of course it was possible. Creed was about my dad and me, so it’s a movie that I find difficult to watch. It’s difficult for me to even think about it, I’ve got so many emotional ties to it, not to mention you know how much I care about the people involved. I care deeply for Mike, obviously, deeply for Tessa, and I grew incredibly close with Sly in making that. These are people that I wanna see do well and win at all costs. There’s timing, and that film for whatever reason it had to go when it’s going. I think it’s a blessing that it’s going, man. It’s amazing that they found an incredible filmmaker in Steven Caple Jr., who’s a guy I actually went to film school with, who I have a lot of love and respect for. I can’t wait to see what he does with it.”

Fight time …FANPOSTER!!! Not official #creed 2 #healthylifestyle #rockybalboa1976

A post shared by Sly Stallone (@officialslystallone) on

While we’re on the subject of Creed 2, behold this fan poster posted to Sylvester Stallone‘s Instagram account. Stallone first posted the image without confirming it was fan-made, leading several to assume it could be official artwork for the sequel. The actor has since gone back and added “FANPOSTER!!! Not official” to clear that up.

Dolph Lundgren creed 2

We’re not done with Creed 2 yet! As you may know by now, Dolph Lundgren is returning for the film as Rocky character Ivan Drago, aka the man who killed Adonis Creed’s father Apollo Creed in the ring. Speaking with the Review Journal, Lundgren discussed his decision to return to the franchise:

“That was something Stallone suggested to me about a year ago. I wasn’t sure, since it’s been about 30 years. I wanted Ivan Drago to live in the past, but it turned out that the script for Creed 2 was really good. All I can tell you is Ivan is back. The Russians come back over for a challenge.”

Dolph Aquaman

While we’re on the subject of Dolph Lundgren, the actor provided some info on his part in the upcoming Aquaman in the same Review Journal interview. Lundgren is playing King Nereus, father of Amber Heard’s character Mera:

“Basically, I try to keep the peace down there along with Amber Heard, who plays my daughter. She’s trying to convince me to join the right side. Then you have Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother. We’re trying to avoid war between the surface dwellers and the people of Atlantis.”

I, for one, can’t wait to see Dolph Lundgren and Nicole Kidman act together.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is coming down to the wire. The Tom Cruise film is due out July 27, 2018, and it just wrapped shooting. Director Chris McQuarrie confirmed the wrap in the Instagram post above, stating: “3000 setups 13 helicopters 6 pregnancies 5 hiatuses 4 weeks of aerial photography 3 continents 2 winters 1 broken ankle To the most amazing main unit on the planet, thank you for all of your hard work. That’s a wrap.” Sounds exhausting.

rush hour 4

Does anyone want Rush Hour 4? Well, like it or not, it’s apparently happening. Speaking with The Plug, Rush Hour star Chris Tucker confirmed that Rush Hour 4 is happening, and that it’s going to be the “rush of all rushes”, whatever that means:

“It’s happening. This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie [Chan] is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.”

It’s hard to believe anyone would be interested in Rush Hour 4 at this point, but perhaps there are still some die hard Rush Hour fans out there clamoring for more! Whatever happens, it’s probably safe to say Brett Ratner won’t be involved.

The Ghostbusters film franchise may have stalled a bit since audiences didn’t take to that reboot (it’s a good movie, btw). But the series will now live on through an AR mobile game. Ghostbusters World will be a Pokemon GO–style game that gets players out in the real world, using their phones to hunt and catch ghosts. “The Ghostbusters universe is rich in characters and Ghostbusters World is the perfect medium to get to know these characters in a whole new dimension,” said Ivan Reitman, the original film’s director, in a statement. Look for it sometime this year.

Ghostbusters World, is an all-new state-of-the-art augmented reality game currently in development. The game features the latest in AR and other mobile technologies and differentiates itself with skill-based gameplay and numerous other exciting features yet to be announced. Gameplay will enable players to battle and capture hundreds of ghosts from all dimensions of the franchise, including the films, TV shows, comic books, theme parks, and video games. The game will also feature new and unique ghosts to the franchise. The Ghostbusters World Game is currently in development as part of a collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment Consumer Products, Ghost Corps and publisher FourThirtyThree Inc.

Ghostbusters director REVEALS why his female-led reboot FAILED https://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-director-reveals-why-his-female-led-reboot-failed/ https://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-director-reveals-why-his-female-led-reboot-failed/#respond Tue, 21 Nov 2017 17:21:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ghostbusters-director-reveals-why-his-female-led-reboot-failed/

It was supposed to be a big comeback for the iconic franchise, but the female-led reboot failed at the box office.

Ghostbusters may have received mostly positive reviews, however it only made £177 million worldwide on a budget of £111 million.

Now director Paul Feig has spoken out on why his movie didn’t do better.

Speaking at Vulture Festival in Los Angeles, he said: “I think it kind of hampered us a little bit because the movie became so much of a cause.”

The 64-year-old actor said: “It cost too much, and Sony does not like to lose money.

“It made a lot of money around the world, but it just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one. It’s too bad.

“The director, he spent too much on it and he didn’t shoot scenes we suggested to him – several scenes that were going to be needed.

“He said, ‘No, we don’t need them.’ And then we tested the movie and they needed them, and he had to go back — about $ 30 to $ 40 million (£23 to £31 million) in reshoots. So he will not be back on the Sony lot anytime soon.”

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

The Morning Watch: ‘Ghostbusters’ May Be About Nothing, More ‘Rick & Morty’ Non-Canonical Adventures & More https://briefnews.eu/the-morning-watch-ghostbusters-may-be-about-nothing-more-rick-morty-non-canonical-adventures-more/ https://briefnews.eu/the-morning-watch-ghostbusters-may-be-about-nothing-more-rick-morty-non-canonical-adventures-more/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2017 12:52:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-morning-watch-ghostbusters-may-be-about-nothing-more-rick-morty-non-canonical-adventures-more/ Morning Watch - Rick and Morty

(The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.)

In this edition, a video essay proposes that Ghostbusters might actually be about nothing. Plus, watch more of Adult Swim’s claymation bumpers featuring the non-canonical adventures of Rick and Morty, and a lengthy diatribe about why Star Wars is better than Star Trek by Conan associate producer Jordan Schlansky in a bit on the late night talk show that mistakenly goes on for far too long.

Before you get upset and think this video essay is trying to say Ghostbusters doesn’t have a plot or story, that’s not the case. Instead, the video essay argues that Ghostbusters doesn’t really have any deeper meaning, subtext or themes to give the film a message. It’s pointed out that there don’t seem to be character arcs for Ray (Dan Aykroyd), Egon (Harold Ramis) and Venkman (Bill Murray), which is hard to argue with. But though that may sound like it’s a flaw, it might be more impressive that a movie like Ghostbusters can be so good without adhering to that element of storytelling. You can be the judge of that.

You might remember that we’ve featured the claymation non-canonical adventures of Rick and Morty before, but since then, even more of them have appeared on Adult Swim. In total, there have been 16 brief stop-motion shorts that put Rick and Morty in some of the most iconic scenes from sci-fi and horror films. Lee Hardcastle has rounded them all up into a single video for you to enjoy. Hopefully there will be even more of these as time goes on.

Finally, in a segment that was cut from Conan, associate producer Jordan Schlansky was forced to dress as Spock and celebrate the anniversary of Star Trek. This was a cruel move by Conan O’Brien, because Schlansky is a die hard Star Wars fan. Before the producer went into the forced celebration of Star Trek, he was asked to explain why Star Wars is better. The bit was planned so Conan would stop Schlansky in what would turn into a long improvised rant. But Conan didn’t realize he was supposed to stop the bit, resulting in a 7-minute diatribe about Star Wars that is quite masterful. But we’re not choosing sides in this battle.

Red Letter Media Takes Down and Breaks Down the ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot https://briefnews.eu/red-letter-media-takes-down-and-breaks-down-the-ghostbusters-reboot/ https://briefnews.eu/red-letter-media-takes-down-and-breaks-down-the-ghostbusters-reboot/#respond Wed, 09 Aug 2017 15:11:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/red-letter-media-takes-down-and-breaks-down-the-ghostbusters-reboot/ Ghostbusters Extended Cut

It’s kind of amazing that Mike Stoklasa‘s creation of RedLetterMedia and the character of Harry S. Plinkett has lasted so long after first finding viral fame for a seven-part takedown of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace back in 2009. But the internet is full of plenty of wackier things, and despite the fact that this character is supremely annoying to listen to, his video reviews do make plenty of valid points, even if they are combined with some really lame attempts at humor.

While Star Wars has become a prime target for Harry S. Plinkett, every now and then he turns his attention to a movie that garnered a lot of attention from passionate fans and viewers. The Ghostbusters reboot from 2016 (or Ghostbusters: Answer the Call as it’s more officially titled) was certainly one of those movies, and even though it’s been over a year since it was released and most of us have moved on, Harry S. Plinkett has a one-hour takedown and breakdown of the film directed by Paul Feig.

Watch the Red Letter Media Ghostbusters Review

First, let me just say that the humor in these reviews is almost unbearable. Plus, it fluctuates so drastically between sarcasm and making valid points about the movie that it can be hard to tell when the character of Harry S. Plinkett is saying something that’s meant to be a joke, not to mention that those jokes again are usually pretty awful. But I digress.

One fair point made by the video is that Ghostbusters employs Kristen Wiig as one of our central characters, but for some reason they didn’t hire her as a writer, despite being nominated for an Oscar for co-writing Paul Feig’s hit comedy Bridesmaids with Annie Mumolo. But it’s countered by the fact that tons of little jokes in this movie are nitpicked to death. Sure, each line of dialogue should be important to progressing the movie, but since Paul Feig made a different kind of improvised comedy than the original Ghostbusters, holding a microscope over every single joke doesn’t seem entirely fair.

But perhaps the most valid point the review makes is that the new Ghostbusters would have benefited from existing in the same universe as the original franchise. Instead, by trying to create a new Ghostbusters universe, while still hitting the same story beats and paying endless tribute to the original, the movie is effectively trying to stand up on its own while tying handcuffing itself to a chair. We’ve already wrote extensively about the reasons Paul Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold gave for making this decision and how they could have still created a soft reboot of Ghostbusters while still satisfying their own desires, if you’re interested in reading more.

There are many comparisons between the old Ghostbusters and the new Ghostbusters in this video, which is inevitable. Criticism of the new Ghostbusters movie should mostly be aimed at the movie by itself. But the problem is, as we just mentioned above, the reboot goes out of its way to pay fan service to the original through references, cameos, story beats and more, so it’s almost impossible to keep the two separated. That’s all the more reason to figure out how to link them in the future if a sequel ever gets made.

At one point, there’s a throwaway line in this review where Harry S. Plinkett says Chris Hemsworth‘s character and his improvised lines during the job interview scene would be fine if this was a romantic comedy about women starting a business. Honestly, if the new Ghostbusters leaned more into the idea that this was a movie about women starting a business, that would have probably worked better. The original Ghostbusters is about three guys starting a business that just so happens to be capturing ghosts. Meanwhile, the new Ghostbusters is more about the science of learning to catch ghosts, even though when all is said and done, the way they deal with ghosts isn’t by capturing them, but seemingly destroying them, which is another big problem in the movie when it goes into full-on blockbuster spectacle mode for the third act.

There’s much more said about Ghostbusters in the full one-hour video, but much like the Ghostbusters reboot, it’s bogged down with a lot of silly humor and references to the original Ghostbusters that inevitably get in the way of what the video is really trying to accomplish.
