Holding her hand out, Alison begged: “Can I have some sanitiser? He’s just touched me!”

“It was the Dutty wine,” Dermot tried to explain. “It was the Dutty wine.”

As Alison joked she’d put her hand in her tea to sanitise it, Dermot exclaimed “hang on,” before running off set.

“Get him out of here!” Alison shouted. “Listen, still to come we chat to Rochelle about her new documentary that’s very close to her heart.”

“Of course he’s not going to please all his own party, he can’t please all his own country, he’ll never please Femi because Femi is passionate about remaining in the European Union,” Pierce added.

“The deal is done and most people will wake up this morning and be relieved that’s the case.”

Oluwole replied: “It’s funny that you mention public consent. As I mentioned you’ve got many contingents of those who voted Brexit who oppose the deal, DUP, the Brexit Party…”

Interrupting, Pierce said: “We had a referendum in 2016…”

He put on a special performance for the residents and care workers which was shown along with messages from those working at the home. After the segment was broadcast, The One Show cut back to the studio where Alex Scott had to ask for a tissue for her co-star who was in tears.

“I literally think that has taken us through every single emotion,” Scott said turning to her co-host.

Jones could be heard sniffling as she broke down in tears over the heartwarming video.

“How beautiful and special was that please,” Scott asked.

Jones wiped away tears as she replied: “Oh my gosh! Those messages, it was lovely though when Jamie turned up and they were all dancing.”

“Then when he was seven, he got a girlfriend but he was still shackled, he had her for 20 years and then she died.

“Then the kids on my Twitter feed started driving me crazy with ‘Free Kavaan’ and I just thought, you know, I’m entertainer, how do I do this?

“I thought, if I don’t pay any attention to them they’ll stop. And they didn’t.”

Alex remarked: “So the power of social media drew you to the elephant and you had some help, you made him happier but then the story gained momentum because eventually you managed to move Kavaan to Cambodia.

The Chase: Bradley Walsh tells player’s wife to ‘get a grip’ as he hears plan for winnings https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-tells-players-wife-to-get-a-grip-as-he-hears-plan-for-winnings/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-tells-players-wife-to-get-a-grip-as-he-hears-plan-for-winnings/#respond Fri, 06 Nov 2020 20:36:32 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-tells-players-wife-to-get-a-grip-as-he-hears-plan-for-winnings/

Giggling at the unique pastime, Bradley asked how many bees Andrew tended to.

“Tends to be about 50,000 in summer,” Andrew said. “And 1,000 in the winter – they die off.”

Bradley went on to quiz Andrew on his plans for the money and it turned out bees were still on the player’s mind.

“I would like to buy another two hives, but my wife has it earmarked for something else.”

‘Get a grip!’ Dr Hilary Jones warns of ‘really worrying’ risk of UK second COVID-19 wave https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/ https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/#respond Mon, 14 Sep 2020 07:18:07 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/get-a-grip-dr-hilary-jones-warns-of-really-worrying-risk-of-uk-second-covid-19-wave/

Speaking to ITV Good Morning Britain viewers, Dr Hilary Jones stressed the more people Britons get in contact with, the higher the risk of spreading coronavirus as he urged everyone to follow the rule of six. He admitted the maximum number of people Britons will be able to meet from Monday was an “arbitrary” figure decided on modelling more than data, but urged everyone to “get a grip”.

He said: “We’re seeing a rise in cases, over 3,000 again three days on the trot.

“We’re seeing an increase in hospitalisations and nine deaths in the UK. It may not sound much now but when you see a rise in cases you will see inevitably a rise in hospitalisations.

“We’re also seeing a rise in the number of cases in care homes which is really worrying.

“These are the people who are most vulnerable.

“I think there’s been about 1,000 cases in care homes around the country. So we need to get a grip on this.

“We need to make sure people understand why social distancing is so important. The rule of six is easy to understand, six is an arbitrary figure and it’s based on modelling rather than any other signs.

“But the more people that individuals come into contact with, the more the transmission will spread.”

The coronavirus “rule of six” came into force in England on Monday, meaning any social gatherings of more than six people will break the law.

People face fines of up to £3,200 if they do not abide by the new measure, which applies to both indoor and outdoor settings and follows a rapid increase in the number of daily positive cases.

Regulations enabling the enforcement of the rule were published late on Sunday night, around 30 minutes before they came into effect.

More than 3,000 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the UK for the third day in a row on Sunday – the first time since May that cases were above 3,000 on three consecutive days.

The new law comes amid concerns about an increase in cases in care homes and growing criticism of the NHS Test and Trace system.

Aside from limited exemptions including work and education, police will be able to disperse gatherings of more than six people and issue fines ranging from £100 to £3,200.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, who leads the Metropolitan Police’s response to coronavirus, said officers will be deployed in every borough to patrol public spaces and respond swiftly to incidents where groups gather in large numbers.

“Where people just won’t listen, and are putting everyone at risk, we absolutely will take enforcement action,” he said.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the recent rise in cases “makes it clear that more needs to be done to stop the spread of this disease”.

The rule applies across England and replaces the existing ban on participating in gatherings of more than 30 and the current guidance on allowing two households to meet indoors.

Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council Martin Hewitt has urged the public to “stick to the limits”.

He said: “Preventing the spread of coronavirus is a shared effort and police are playing our part alongside Government, businesses, hospitality owners, local authorities and others.

“Officers are in their communities following our approach to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules. We will issue fines when people refuse to comply.

“The demands on the police service are now at similar levels to before the pandemic, which makes it crucially important that we all take personal responsibility, stick to the limits and prevent the spread of this deadly virus.”

Meanwhile, a survey suggests a second peak is the number one concern among medics who want to avoid a return to the “horror and tragedy” of the pandemic’s early days.

The British Medical Association (BMA) poll found that 86 percent of more than 8,000 doctors and medical students in England said that a second peak was likely or very likely in the next six months.

Ahead of the show’s final ten episodes, some fans may be wondering how Katheryn Winnick landed the role of Lagertha back in the first season.

An interview with Collider has revealed how one particular actor’s involvement in the series convinced Winnick to sign on.

She explained: “I am such a big fan of Gabriel Byrne. I grew up watching him in movies and on TV, and when I heard that he signed on to do this, I called my agents and said, ‘You’ve got to make sure I get this role!’”

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne only appeared in Vikings first season, but made a distinct impression as the cruel Earl Haraldson.

‘Get her off!’ Nicola Sturgeon suffers furious backlash after BBC ask Cummings questions https://briefnews.eu/get-her-off-nicola-sturgeon-suffers-furious-backlash-after-bbc-ask-cummings-questions/ https://briefnews.eu/get-her-off-nicola-sturgeon-suffers-furious-backlash-after-bbc-ask-cummings-questions/#respond Mon, 25 May 2020 18:38:10 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/get-her-off-nicola-sturgeon-suffers-furious-backlash-after-bbc-ask-cummings-questions/

Scotland First Minister told BBC Breakfast that Boris Johnson came to the wrong decision regarding Dominic Cummings, following the news that Mr Cummings travelled to Durham while showing coronavirus symptoms. Ms Sturgeon added that the consequences of the Prime Minister’s decision to not reprimand his senior advisor are potentially “so serious”.

Scotland’s First Minister said: “We all get things wrong me included but the responsibility of leadership is to try and do the right thing even if it is very difficult for your political position.

“I watched some of Boris’ press conference yesterday and I thought on some of the detailed questions about what happened he was less than forthcoming.

“These are questions that he has to answer and ultimately come to a judgment, just as I had to come to a judgement when I faced a similar situation here.

“I think he has come to the wrong judgement.”

She continued: “The reason why that matters is that the consequences of this are so serious as we go into the next phases of lockdown.

“Trust in the advice we are giving and the reasons why we are giving that is really important.”

Some viewers took to Twitter to voice their annoyance at the BBC’s line of question and Ms Sturgeon’s answers.

One Twitter user said: “Get Nicola Sturgeon off, let her speak on Scottish BBC, not interested.”

However, other BBC Breakfast viewers supported the First Minister of Scotland’s comments.

One Twitter user said: “Nicola Sturgeon on the BBC news speaking sense Cummings needs to go.”

Another tweeted: “Listening to Nicola Sturgeon on BBC Breakfast, it’s nice to hear a competent, articulate leader with a clear vision and common sense.

“You may not agree with all her policies, but at least she is a leader.

“One day we may have the same in England, please? Sooner rather than later.”

“Already you see the Globe newspaper in Canada, one of their biggest newspapers, has today written a critical leader apparently about the fact that Meghan Markle yesterday in the middle of all this did what she normally does, she’s an actress, she gets on a seaplane and goes to some downtrodden women.”

He continued: “She goes on a seaplane to see some downtrodden women in Canada but that is not as the Globe newspaper puts it, that’s not a private thing.

“That is actually a member of the royal family conducting a public visit, a charitable public visit and having pictures that are released to the world, they say that is crossing a line.

“If they want to be in Canada as private citizens that’s one thing but if they’re going to be doing this that is public work as a member of the royal family.”

“You can’t be half in and half out,” he added. “You can’t have the taxpayer not seeing them do stuff like this in our country but paying for Frogmore cottage, paying millions for their security.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.

Daybreak’s Krysta Rodriguez Talks Eating Bugs, Surviving the Apocalypse and Inspiring Young Girls to ‘Get Loud’ https://briefnews.eu/daybreaks-krysta-rodriguez-talks-eating-bugs-surviving-the-apocalypse-and-inspiring-young-girls-to-get-loud/ https://briefnews.eu/daybreaks-krysta-rodriguez-talks-eating-bugs-surviving-the-apocalypse-and-inspiring-young-girls-to-get-loud/#respond Sun, 27 Oct 2019 00:47:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/daybreaks-krysta-rodriguez-talks-eating-bugs-surviving-the-apocalypse-and-inspiring-young-girls-to-get-loud/

RELATED STORIES

There’s a moment in the fourth of episode of Netflix’s Daybreak when a barely recognizable Krysta Rodriguez clutches an enormous bowl of maggots, assigns a name to each individual squirmer, then proceeds to devour them all with a sickening grin on her gross (sorry!) face.

Sure, it sounds like the stuff of nightmares — and you’re not wrong about that — but it’s really just another day in the life of Ms. Crumble, a high school science teacher-turned-witch trying to make sense of a new, post-apocalyptic world where most of the adult population has been transformed into zombie-like creatures known as “Ghoulies.”

“When we meet her, she seems like a crazy person on the surface,” Rodriguez admits. “Just a wackadoodle nut bag. But as we come to realize, there’s actually a tragic situation happening here. She’s dealing with a traumatic brain injury from an atomic bomb, while also becoming part Ghoulie. She’s fighting this metamorphosis happening inside her body that’s telling her to eat people, as well as the part of her brain that’s desperately trying to be who she was before.”

Rodriguez — previously seen on shows like Smash and Trial & Error, as well as Broadway musicals like Spring Awakening and The Addams Family — admits that Ms. Crumble is the most original role she’s ever read, to the point where her first thought was, “OK, what am I going to do with this gal?” Fortunately, she says she “found a good balance” between the character’s outer eccentricity and inner turmoil.

Below, Rodriguez tells TVLine about the process of bringing this instantly unforgettable character to life, including the moment she knew that it was what she’d been waiting for her entire career.

TVLINE | Let’s start with a fun one: What would you say is the grossest thing you had to do as Ms. Crumble?
You’d think it was eating the maggots, but really, the grossest thing was having to look at [Josh’s severed] finger. Stuff that’s hyperrealistic is hard to get my brain around. I also had to eat a lot of ketchup, and let me tell you, ketchup by itself is disgusting. It needs salt and fries and grease. And I had to eat packets of it.

TVLINE | There’s also the part where Josh has to reach down into your mouth, but I guess that was mostly CGI?
It’s actually not all CGI. They took a mold of my face and made it into a puppet, so it’s a practical piece. The tongue moves, the mouth opens and it was my face. It’s horrifying. It took me so my surprise. I felt like I was standing next to my own dead body. So Josh put his hand down the puppet, and I had to stand next to him making gurgling noises.

TVLINE | And then there’s Ms. Crumble’s teeth. Did those take some getting used to?
In the first and second episodes, we were painting the teeth. Between every scene, I would hold up a fan, they’d pour the crap into my mouth and they’d a paintbrush to paint it onto my teeth. We had to do that probably 45 times a day, which was terrible. And I was swallowing it. It’s mint-flavored, but you just don’t want that in your gut. By the third or fourth episode, they made me a tray of painted teeth. It was like Invisalign. It was great.

TVLINE | OK, I’ve asked enough about her physical appearance. What do you love about playing Ms. Crumble and the journey she’s on?
In the pre-apocalypse, she was a woman who didn’t get her say. And in the apocalypse, she gets to be everything. She doesn’t have to look or be a certain way. She can scream and yell and fight — it’s the person she never got to be before. In that way, it was very freeing.

Daybreak NetflixTVLINE | She also seems to forge a special connection with Angelica. Ms. Crumble, at times, feels like the mother figure she never had. It really hit me during that scene in Episode 4, when she tells Angelica, “Let’s be monsters.”
There’s this really beautiful, nurturing relationship between them, and that scene hit me. I’ve played a lot of characters, and I felt like I was getting stuck in a place where I was playing the smartest woman in the room who just rolled her eyes at the men who were doing silly things. My function was always to be the girl to the boy, and I was getting frustrated with that. I never imagined that this apocalypse show about high school kids would be the show that broke that streak in such a way. When I was reading [Episode 4], I was like, “Here we go with a makeover story. Let’s not let the witch be who she is, let’s make sure she gets a makeover.” All these other people are fighting, and here we are stuck in the mall getting makeovers. Then I actually read the scene… and I burst into tears. This is what I’ve been waiting for my whole career, this moment where I get to say, “F–k that. Let’s be loud.” And it’s what I want to tell the 12-year-olds in the world. Get loud, get dirty and play hard.
