Yamaha’s Yard Built Garage has so far welcomed sixty builds by professional custom builders, two-wheeled spectacles ranging from the “Eau Rouge” XJR13000 to the “Gibbonslap” SR400. The latest addition comes from Iowa-based builder Greg Hageman, a Yamaha specialist, who unveiled a reworked XSR700 as one of the “Faster Sons” – modern Yamaha bikes invoking spirits of their pasts. The modern bike pays its respects to the motorcycle Hageman began his customizing career with more than a decade ago, the “Fast Father” 1972 Yamaha XS650.

In the early 2000s, Hageman’s idea for the ancestor XS650 was upping the performance. MikeXS rebuilt the 50-horsepower, four-stroke engine and installed Mikuni carbs, electric ignition, and a permanent magnet alternator with a lithium battery to power LED lights. Hageman installed a Yamaha R6 front end, and a modified rear swingarm from a Yamaha SR500 out back. He relaced the stock hubs with stainless steel spokes riding on Shinko radials, bolted on a custom tuck-and-roll seat, and upgraded the cockpit with a Speedhut GPS speedometer.

Hageman’s saw his mission with the modern XS700 as “taking something that’s modern, new and fresh, and connecting it to its roots.” Beyond that, he stuck to retro cues that an amateur could add to his own bike; hence, no $ 3,000 custom-spoked wheels. However, the Faster Son does get lower handlebars on lower-profile Yamaha Virago risers, a seven-inch LED headlight with turn signals to match the Fast Father, retro fork gaiters clasping a sculpted front fender, and silver powdercoated wheels on Shinko radials. A tuck-and-roll seat welcomes the driver, a rear rack welcomes his luggage. The only powertrain modification is an Akropovic exhaust. Classic Yamaha badges, a striped tank color-matched to the 1972 hue on the XSR650, and a matching Bell helmet cement the ties between past and present. Something is growing underneath La Chapelle, a neighborhood north of central Paris.

It’s an underground farm by Cycloponics, a local indoor farming startup that harvests lettuce, herbs, and mushrooms in a space it calls la caverne (the cave).

The farm uses an agricultural technique called hydroponic farming, in which greens are grown under LEDs in nutrient-rich water without sunlight or soil.

Since late 2016, Cycloponics has grown vegetables in a 37,700-square-foot farm underneath the streets of Paris.

The Chevrolet Camaro was the first Hot Wheels car when the brand began its journey back in 1968. Fifty years later, Chevrolet is keeping the partnership a two-way track. To honor the long-standing relationship (Mattel has made Hot Wheels models for just about every production Camaro), Chevrolet is releasing the 2018 Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition.

About to make its debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, the new Hot Wheels muscle car arrives in a vibrant orange color called Crush, switching up from the blue that was seen on the 2013 Hot Wheels Edition Camaro and the chrome neon green Hot Wheels Camaro concept from 2011. For $ 4995, it can be added to any 2LT or 2SS coupe or convertible model.

There are no performance modifications to the Camaro, just new visuals. A set of 20-inch Satin Graphite forged aluminum wheels set the car up for its larger-than-life stance. They tie in with the Satin Graphite stripes that mimic a Hot Wheels track design and the Satin Graphite ground effects. Adding to the aggressive look, Chevrolet blackened the bow-tie emblems, the taillamps, and the trunk panel. Chrome inserts give the grille more flair, and orange brake calipers pop behind the dark wheels. The 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels fender badge on each side announces to everybody that this is not a typical Camaro.

Inside, there is more branding and badging. The headrests have an embossed image of a Camaro, and the steering wheel has a 50th-anniversary badge, as do the door sills. The black leather interior has orange seatbelts, inserts, and contrast stitching. “Ghost” stripes on the carpeted floor mats complete the theme inside.

The special editions can first be seen at Chevrolet’s SEMA stand between October 31 and November 3 alongside the Colorado ZR2 Night and Dusk Editions and the Centennial Edition Silverados and Colorados. They will become available for order in the first quarter of 2018.

It may seem a little early for Halloween decorations, but that’s not the major problem with this spooky scene at a Tennessee house. The real issue is that the super-realistic props sparked utter panic amongst neighbors.

Instead of a run-of-the-mill pumpkin or ghost hanging in the window, the homeowner has gone with a spine-chilling decoration more appropriate for a horror movie. It shows a man lying face down in the driveway of a house in Greene County, Tennessee.

The head of the ‘victim’ has seemingly been crushed by the garage door as he tried in vain to set himself free, leaving bloody handprints behind.

This was seemingly a little too much for neighbors though. It led to a slew of 911 calls, with local police taking to Facebook to warn residents not to call the emergency hotline.

“THIS IS A HALLOWEEN DECORATION! Do NOT call 911 reporting a dead body,” police wrote on Facebook. “Instead, congratulate the homeowner on a great display.”

We haven’t gotten to the point of voice-activated vacuum cleaners yet, but closing your garage door with an “Ok Google” has arrived. Garage-door company Chamberlain has announced that its MyQ app will now work with Google Assistant in addition to your Nest camera. Handy! More than issuing a closing command, you can ask if the door is open or if it’s closed, too.

Want even more customization? MyQ works with IFTTT now as well. The system can automatically close the garage door when you leave a geofenced area, turn down the thermostat once you leave. Hell, you can even set it up to turn the lights on and thermostat up once you open the garage door upon returning home.

Both of these will cost you, though. If you go month by month, access to Assistant and IFTTT will run $ 1 a month, or you can get a discount by going yearly for $ 10.

The CCTV footage uploaded to image sharing site Imgur showed a man in the early hours of the evening walk up the drive of a home and enter the garage.

For a couple of moments, the man disappears from view, but he soon emerges with a bike and proceeds to get on it and ride off. 

But the man sorely mistakes it being the perfect time to steal the bike. 

He gets on the bike but just as he begins to pick up speed he is stopped in his tracks. 

The homeowner, and presumably bike owner, suddenly appears and chases after the man. 

The thief manages to make it onto the road but the homeowner quickly catches him. 

He grabs hold of the bike thief and pulls him down to the ground. 

Both men are left in a heap on the floor, and most importantly, the thief is unable to get away.

Police have released security-camera video showing the July 13 plunge of a woman in a BMW sedan off the seventh floor of a notorious parking garage in Austin, Texas — notorious because this is the second such crash there in less than a year.

The video shows the car hit the pavement nose-first, clipping the rear of another vehicle as it comes to rest in the alley of the garage at 508 Brazos Street in downtown Austin. The woman driving the BMW survived but was seriously injured. Bystanders came to her assistance until medics arrived.

Last September, William O’Connor’s 4Runner plunged off the top ninth floor of the garage and was left dangling midair, held in place by the cables that should have prevented him from going over the edge in the first place.

“You know that you’re about to die,” O’Connor said. “I feel like whenever I describe it, the words I’m using are inadequate to describe just the sheer terror.

“As I was falling, there were thoughts going through my head, like, ‘I can’t believe this is how I’m dying,'” he told the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV.

Here is the newspaper’s account of the latest crash, along with its account of O’Connor’s fall and his rescue from the dangling SUV by a passer-by. Video of that incident appears below.

From news accounts, it sounds like the garage clearly has concrete parking curbs — and five half-inch-wide steel cables, spaced 8-9 inches apart. Each cable is said to be rated to hold a 6,000-pound static load — no word on what the math is on a moving vehicle. Also, the structure is 38 years old, so the cables have been exposed to the elements. The newspaper cited a local engineer who said such cables stretch out of shape over time.

Austin police Cpl. Chris Carlisle told the American-Statesman said that unlike the O’Connor crash in which the cables broke, in the latest incident the car somehow “went through the wires. They’re still there.”

A spokesman for the garage company said that after the September crash, the company hired a structural engineer to inspect the safety systems and make repairs, which the city inspected and certified. City inspectors, however, say they have no record of that — but say they’re going to take a hard look now.
