But at the last second, there was… well… an unexpected turnaround, one that left him making a change that we’d never have believed before Janis’ death. What did he do? Read on and find out.

‘TURNS OUT SOME FROGS VOMIT UP THINGS THEY’D RATHER NOT EAT IN A MOST PECULIAR WAY’ | As “Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg” began, Virginia and her Rangers pursued and questioned a middle-aged runaway about a mysterious “them” that was (were?) of great concern. Rather than offer up any intel about the group that was spray-painting “The End Is the Beginning” everywhere, the woman committed suicide, setting the stage for the baddies to [insert episode title here]. From there, we learned that since becoming Ginny’s “employees,” June and Sarah had transformed the latter’s rig into an unusually large ambulance. But since they were stretched way too thin, they were always getting where they needed to go too late and finding themselves able to do too little. (Hence, newcomer Malcolm’s death during surgery to remove his appendix and, if I’m not mistaken, the fastest transition ever.) What our heroines really needed was a hospital. Natch, June had already asked Ginny for one — and been turned down.

After John rendezvoused with June and Sarah, his wife rode with him toward their next stop: Paradise Ridge. When she expressed her disappointment at not actually being able to help anyone, he suggested… um… ya know… “we could leave.” It was, he noted, just 100 miles from Paradise Ridge to his cabin, and he was still sorry that he hadn’t taken up Janis on her offer to bequeath him her and Cameron’s escape plan. When June protested that she wanted to save people, he said, in that ultra-sincere way of his, “You could save me.” Though he wouldn’t tell her the full story of what had happened with Janis, he did float the idea that he wouldn’t last long if he stayed in Lawton. What about all their friends? June sensibly asked. “You’d want this for them, wouldn’t ya?” he replied. With that, the matter was as good as settled until…

fear the walking dead recap season 6 episode 6 virginia bitten amputated‘SOME DOGS YA GOTTA KNOW WHEN TO PUT OUT TO PASTURE, JUNE’ | … they as well as Sarah were summoned to Tank Town. There had been a terrible accident since Ginny ordered production tripled, Lucy explained. When the trio arrived, it was a disaster scene. The newest well had blown, and if the winds shifted — heck, if anyone farted! — more could go up in flames. Oh, great — and Ginny had shown up with Hill and Marcus, apparently her favorite Rangers. No matter, June assured John. They’d help, then they’d get the hell outta Dodge. As if it was going to be that easy! Ginny immediately eyeballed a tank with “The End Is the Beginning” painted on it and deduced that “somebody meant to do this.” So nobody was being “ambulanced” to safety until she got answers — not even Wes, who had a stomach full of shrapnel. (Am I the only one who forgot that Wes, who I actually love, was even on the show? It’s been a minute!)

After fighting off a walker with razorblades attached to her fingers — well, that’s new! — Ginny refused to let June treat Wes until she’d questioned the artist, whose bunk was lousy with spray-paint cans. Over and over, he insisted that he didn’t know who “they” were, to the point where June defied Ginny and sedated him rather than allow him to continue to be tortured. Once he was finally loaded on the rig, June and Ginny were to follow, but they were trapped back at Tank Town by a massive explosion. (Who farted?!?) When they awakened, a walker got the best of Ginny and did more than kiss her hand. June could amputate, right? “Yeah,” she admitted. “But I’m not going to,” because Ginny had delayed the evacuation, costing even more innocents their lives. So there!

fear the walking dead season 6 episode 6 recap‘YOU MAY NOT LIKE ME, BUT YOU NEED ME’ | After June won the scuffle over the one axe in the shack in which she and her nemesis were holed up, she actually threw Ginny’s “Some dogs, ya gotta know when to put down” line back at her. Desperately, Ginny pleaded her case — and tried to paint “them” as being more interested in killing than living. But June remained unmoved; she was intent on letting Ginny die in order to restore John’s peace of mind. Finally, Ginny asked June to look after Dakota. It destroyed her to love her sister so much and not be able to help her. Since that struck a chord with June, she huffed, “Don’t make me regret this,” and wound up chopping off Ginny’s hand. Later, when the patient awakened, she appeared much more willing than before to tell June what she knew about “them.” But that was a conversation for another episode.

When June was reunited with Wes, Sarah and Lucy, her pals all had the same question: Why the heck had she saved Ginny, the bane of their existence? June had gotten the hospital in exchange, she explained. Um, Sarah pointed out, “This foursome ain’t exactly Johns Hopkins.” June knew that; that was why she’d also made Ginny give her a spare Marine — or someone who should’ve been a Marine: Wendell! The siblings were reunited! Less elated than Sarah, of course, was John. “Every time I run,” June explained, “it leads to something worse.” So she wanted to stick around and run the hospital. At that, you could just hear John’s heart sink. Still, it was a shock when the group went searching for a site, and he veered off, apparently willing to let go of June rather than remain in Ginny’s grip.

Wow. So… what did you think of “Bury Her Next to Jasper’s Leg”? Were you surprised that June let Ginny live — for any reason? Did John really leave June… or is he up to something? Hit the comments.

Within the opening moments, the programme’s narrator gave some insight into how the show was able to go ahead.

There was much uncertainty surrounding how it would work, with it being revealed the bakers had to say goodbye to their families for the duration.

The show’s voiceover explained to viewers: “Like everyone up and down the country, the Bake Off has had to make some changes.

“To save this year’s competition, the bakers have agreed to leave their homes and move into the Bake Off bubble!”

Carrie’s mission of peace in Afghanistan got a rude awakening this week on Homeland, thanks to not one but two (!) kidnappings.

We pick up right where we left off, with Carrie gawking at Yevgeny as he leaves the Afghan VP G’ulom’s office. G’ulom refers to Yevgeny and his intelligence cohorts as “businessmen,” but Carrie knows that’s not true. She tries to talk G’ulom into walking back his comments about releasing Taliban prisoners, but he’s a stubborn old mule. When she points out that he’ll have to release them eventually if the peace process works, he replies: “Or what?” She leaves empty-handed, and gets more upset when Saul tells her she can’t go after Yevgeny; they made an immunity deal with him to get Carrie released.

She gets a juicy lead, though, when an anonymous tipster points her towards a woman named Samira, who called out corruption under G’ulom’s watch before her husband was killed by a car bomb — a bomb clearly intended for her. Carrie wants to know what she knows, so she has Jenna Bragg set up a fake job interview for Samira as a diversion so Carrie can snoop around Samira’s apartment. During the interview, Carrie finds a USB drive stitched inside a burqa… but Jenna flubs her script and makes Samira suspicious. She tries to flee the interview after snapping a photo of Jenna’s face, and Jenna panics. By the time Carrie arrives, they have Samira tied up in a hotel room with a hood over her head. (Kidnapping #1!)

Homeland Season 8 Episode 2 SamiraCarrie plays good cop, untying Samira and removing the hood. She shows her the USB drive she found: It contains personnel files left over from Samira’s corruption investigation that clearly implicate G’ulom. (He’s been scamming the U.S. out of tens of millions of dollars, taking money for military bases that were never built.) Carrie wants to use this as blackmail to get G’ulom to take back his prisoner comments — but Samira doesn’t want to let the man who killed her husband off the hook. She wishes the Americans would just get out of Afghanistan already and leave them alone, but Carrie reminds her that without the U.S. there to negotiate peace, G’ulom will be too powerful for anyone to unseat.

She must’ve convinced Samira, because Carrie takes the files straight to G’ulom, accusing him of stealing at least a hundred million dollars. G’ulom shrugs: Doesn’t every politician steal a little for themselves? Carrie thinks his fellow Afghans would kill him if they knew, though, and he seems to agree: He holds a news conference confirming that he’ll release all Taliban prisoners after all. Carrie and her co-workers celebrate with a drink at a local bar… where Carrie runs into Yevgeny. She yells at him to get away from her, but he reveals he’s the one who tipped her off about Samira. Plus, he seems surprised and hurt that she’d be so rude to him — as she remembers begging him not to leave her back in that Russian prison.

Homeland Season 8 Episode 2 SaulLOOK WHO’S BACK! | Saul gets a blast from the past when Max informs him he’s picked up audio of Taliban leader Haissam Haqqani. (Remember him as Season 4’s Big Bad?) Based on the audio, Haqqani actually wants peace with the Afghan government, so when Haqqani’s second cousin returns home thanks to a prisoner release, Saul enlists him to get a message to Haqqani, reminding him of their shared history and inviting him to meet face-to-face.

Max warns him, though, that he’s seeing a lot of Pakistani intelligence activity in the area, and as Haqqani’s convoy pulls up to meet Saul, a sniper hits them with a rocket launcher, blowing up one car in a massive fireball. In the chaos that follows, Saul is captured and shoved into a truck with a bag over his head. (Kidnapping #2!) He’s taken to an undisclosed location, where he finds himself face-to-face with Haqqani. Saul is overjoyed to see he’s still alive… but Haqqani responds by knocking Saul out cold with the butt of his rifle.

Further Intel:

* Tasneem took a side trip to Pakistan, too, and met with an old friend of Saul’s, who’s now confined to a wheelchair and shooting squirrels with a pistol. (Yikes.) She knows Saul is in Pakistan and trying to connect with Haqqani, and his old friend ranted about how the Americans hate them and their attempts at independence. Yep, based on her getting a whole scene here without Carrie or Saul, I’m convinced Tasneem will be a huge factor this season.

* We’ve got new opening credits, people! The footage spans the entire series, including lots of Brody and (sniff) Quinn’s death. It also throws in some tantalizing glimpses of what’s still to come this season, like a scene of Saul angrily screaming at a room full of top military brass.

* Is Jenna just a colossal screw-up… or is she actually a mole working to undermine Carrie’s mission from within? (Sorry, it’s Homeland, I have to ask.)

* R.I.P. Wine-Drunk Carrie. At the bar, she ordered a soda water with lime and laughed that “I’m not as fun as I used to be.” And winemakers all across the Napa Valley mourned in unison.

‘Why is that so funny?’ Emily Thornberry slammed by Charlie Stayt over Labour leadership https://briefnews.eu/why-is-that-so-funny-emily-thornberry-slammed-by-charlie-stayt-over-labour-leadership/ https://briefnews.eu/why-is-that-so-funny-emily-thornberry-slammed-by-charlie-stayt-over-labour-leadership/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2019 09:51:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/why-is-that-so-funny-emily-thornberry-slammed-by-charlie-stayt-over-labour-leadership/

Emily Thornberry joined BBC Breakfast hosts Charlie Stayt and Naga Muchetty via a live video link this morning to discuss her role in the Labour party and her running to take over from Jeremy Corbyn as the new Labour leader. But Charlie was forced to ask her what was so funny when she was questioned as to who she would keep in office if she was in power.

Stayt began: “Looking forwards, a lot of people think that Jeremy Corbyn is surrounded by a group of people who have protected him from the outside world of what the general public think and that’s the way the general election vote turned out, do you accept that there is a problem right at the heart of the party?”

Thornberry explained: “I believe Jeremy was let down by the advisers that he had, I think -”

Stayt interrupted: “Who are still there.”

She continued: “Who are still there, so what we’ve seen is that there have been a number of letters go out to staff throughout Southside, to people in the leaders office, the people who advised the Shadow Cabinet including my own staff, who have been told they may be made redundant, but those who made the decision the strategic decisions before and during the General Election it looks like their jobs are not on the line and that seems to me to be wrong.”

Ms Thornberry sparked frustration as she laughed as Stayt asked: “So have you got a list of people that you are going to get rid of?”

He added: “I don’t understand why that’s funny because a lot of people think that’s what has to happen.

“If you want to make some kind of clean break from the past and I’m not even sure if you’re saying that you need to get rid of people so do you have a list?”

Thornberry explained: “What happens when a new leader is elected, it will be up to her to decide who is in the leaders office and who will be advising her so whoever is elected it will be up to her to decide who their advisers are that’s how it works.”

Stayt interrupted: “So expect sacking if Emily Thornberry becomes leader of the labour party it’s as simple as that.”

Thornberry chipped in: “I think expect us to continue to be the party that we are to continue to have the values that we do but to be led by someone who will make timely decisions and strong decisions.

“And who will take Boris Johnson on at the dispatch box and who will think through in a logical way where it is that we are going and what it is we are trying to do.

“For example you’ve been the Democrats taking on President Trump and getting as far as they have with impeachment, that is because they have had a clear strategy and they have worked together.

“It’s that sort of thing you need to do in opposition now I’m not saying that we are going to impeach Boris Johnson before you start saying that but, we need to be able to take Boris Johnson on and be clear about how we hold him to account and where it is that we are going as a party.”

Stayt interrupted again: “Many observers are saying that the potential candidate not declared as you are at this stage Rebecca Long Bailey, who a lot of people see as closet to Jeremy Corbyn’s in terms of politics and the way they see the party that she is the front runner.

“Do you think it would be a mistake for the party to stick with someone who has the principles that Jeremy Corbyn had?”

Thornberry explained: ”I think in the end you know when you look at principles and you look at politics.

“Let’s look at the manifesto, the truth of the matter is that the manifesto was a unifying document and when it comes to the politics we all agree.

“It is a question of how do we get ourselves into power in order to be able to implement that I believe that I’m a bridge from where we are to getting us into power.”

Stayt interrupted once again: “You got to the point where you were promising the earth, and people saw that and if you’re still sitting here now hoping to be the labour party leader and still saying you got all of that right then people might think that that’s not looking good.”

Thornberry said: “But I think if people are listening to me they’ll know that’s not what I’m saying, what I’m saying is there isn’t anything wrong with any of the individual promises in the manifesto.”

BBC Breakfast continues on BBC at 6am.

“What’s up, party people?!”

What’s up on The Flash is this season’s introduction of Chester P. Runk, a scrappy scientist whose experiment-gone-awry demanded Team Flash’s intervention — and who, eventually, might become one of their superfriends.

In the comic books, Chester (or “Chunk”) was an overweight cosmologist whose ill-fated encounter with a matter transmitting machine left him with the ability to create black holes. (As a side effect, he needed to consume 47 times his own body weight to stay “fueled.”)

The CW series’ iteration of the character more or less became one with a black hole he accidentally created in the Season 6 premiere, until Barry & Co. managed to shutter the opening while keeping Chester intact.

“Chester P. Runk was one of my favorite characters from the late-’80s run of the Flash comics,” showrunner Eric Wallace tells TVLine. “I was a young, African-American comic book reader, always looking for my own face in the comic books, and here was a character who, even though he was presented as villainous at first, eventually becomes not only an ally but a friend of [Wally West’s] The Flash.

“He has these really wild, sci-fi powers that involve physics, but more importantly, he’s a scientist,” Wallace notes. TV’s The Flash thus set out to “present that kind of positive image for POC audience members to see up on the screen — not that we don’t already have some, but let’s add a new one!”

Also attractive to Wallace is the fact that Chester is a self-made inventor and not some well-funded genius. “I thought those were all important messages to send out, so people can see, ‘You don’t have to have a multi-million dollar facility to make a great contribution to the world.’”

Upon first seeing the dailies of actor Brandon McKnight’s “absolutely wonderful performance” as Chester, “the first thing I said was, ‘How quickly can we get this guy back?’” says Wallace. “We want to get to know him a little better and let him interact with Team Flash a second time, very soon.” After all, among other things, “He’s got to ask Natalie out, and I want to see that story,” says the EP. “Science people can find love, too.”

When last we saw Chester, he had survived his separation from the black hole but had eyes that glowed with orange dark energy. What sort of powers might he wield once he stabilizes? As in the comic books, “Will Chester be a cosmic-powered being? The answer is no,” affirms Wallace. “At least not for a long time.”

And despite his experience and following as a vlogger, the newbie is not in line to join Iris at the Citizen. “No, he is not the new staff member,” says Wallace. “That person arrives in [Episode] 6×02.”

Speaking of Chester and the black hole he unleashed on Central City, we had to ask Wallace about the fact that not 48 hours prior, Supergirl had her own run-in with a black hole, in her Earth’s National City. Was it, like, “Black Hole Week” on The CW?

Upon learning of Supergirl‘s own premiere storyline,”I laughed… out… loud,” Wallace says. “Even though we’re all in the same Arrowverse, we’re all so busy sometimes that we don’t get a chance to talk to each other as much as we would like to. So imagine my surprise when it was brought to my attention — after, mind you, both scripts had already been published, approved, and gone into pre-production!

Wallace admits that at first, he was “really worried” about the unplanned similarity, but upon watching Supergirl, “what I loved is that theirs is as different as you can humanly get in approaching the black hole phenomenon. So I was like, ‘No, we’re fine.’”

But… shouldn’t the black holes at least have looked the same in Central City and National City? “Well,” Wallace smiles, “that’s a post-Crisis question, isn’t it?”

  • “Donut County” was just awarded the distinction of iPhone game of the year by Apple itself.
  • The game, which costs $ 5, casts you as the pilot of a hole in the ground, with a mission to swallow up anything and everything.
  • The game is silly, and fun to play, but it has something to say about the effects of the tech industry on gentrification.
  • If you don’t have an iPhone, it’s also available for the PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac.

This week, Apple released its rankings of the best apps of the year, with indie hit “Donut County” taking the prize as the top iPhone game of 2018.

If you’ve never played “Donut County,” which costs $ 5 on the App Store, I urge you to take a look: It’s a stylish, funny game that casts you as the pilot of a remote-controlled hole in the ground that sucks in everything it touches, from snakes and lawn chairs all the way up to mountains and Ferris wheels.

Winds of Winter: Funny moment TV host DEMANDS George RR Martin finish Game of Thrones book https://briefnews.eu/winds-of-winter-funny-moment-tv-host-demands-george-rr-martin-finish-game-of-thrones-book/ https://briefnews.eu/winds-of-winter-funny-moment-tv-host-demands-george-rr-martin-finish-game-of-thrones-book/#respond Thu, 22 Nov 2018 22:03:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/winds-of-winter-funny-moment-tv-host-demands-george-rr-martin-finish-game-of-thrones-book/

Martin appeared on Colbert’s US chatshow earlier this week in support of his new book, Fire And Blood. The new release is a fictional history set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire – and it’s coming amid a long, long wait for The Winds of Winter.

TWOW is the sixth book in ASOIAF, and Martin has been promising for several years now that it’s on the way.

Colbert playfully poked fun at the delay when Martin revealed that the 700-page Fire and Blood is only the first half of a planned two-part series.

“Aren’t you supposed to be finishing Winds of Winter this entire time?!” an incredulous Colbert asked.

With Martin laughing, Colbert added: “Not to add to the chorus of ‘what is taking so long’, but [Fire and Blood] is a 700-page detour!

“How did you have time to do a 700-page book? Two 700-page books?”

Martin confirmed that he’ll make sure TWOW is out before he gets to work on the second volume of Fire and Blood.

“First I have to finish The Winds of Winter,” he said.

“Then the second half of [Fire and Blood]. Or A Dream of Spring… there’s a lot of stuff to write. So I should actually get home and get to work!”

Fire and Blood has been met with mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, who argued that it is an exercise in procrastination from the mastermind behind one of the most popular fantasy phenomenons of all time.

Game of Thrones, the TV show, will be back for its final season in 2019.

Its storylines overtook the ASOIAF novels some time ago, amid the long wait for Martin’s publications.

Fire and Blood by George RR Martin is out now.

Hunt for 'Googly Eye Bandit' is on in Georgia after war hero's statue gets funny eyes https://briefnews.eu/hunt-for-googly-eye-bandit-is-on-in-georgia-after-war-heros-statue-gets-funny-eyes/ https://briefnews.eu/hunt-for-googly-eye-bandit-is-on-in-georgia-after-war-heros-statue-gets-funny-eyes/#respond Sun, 14 Oct 2018 01:31:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hunt-for-googly-eye-bandit-is-on-in-georgia-after-war-heros-statue-gets-funny-eyes/

Police in Savannah, Georgia, are looking for a prankster who put googly eyes on the statue of a revolutionary war hero. “It’s no laughing matter,” the city stressed, and was taken seriously by absolutely no-one.

The Savannah city government on Thursday issued a call to public to help it catch the perpetrator, who vandal-eyezed the monument for Nathanael Greene, a major general in George Washington’s Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.

READ MORE: ‘Mass murderer’: Columbus statues in US vandalized on Columbus Day

The statue had its own carved eyes covered with a pair of popping googly eyes. The Savannah Police Department were alerted to the makeover and removed the cartoonish eyes on Thursday. No damage to the statue has been reported.

However, since the monument is fenced off, the joker is now facing trespassing charges. Police said it had been reviewing CCTV footage to determine the culprit.

The incident might have gone unnoticed but for the Savannah government, which posted the image of a googly-eyed Greene on its Facebook page, with the post immediately going viral and reaching national news.

“It may look funny but harming our historic monuments and public property is no laughing matter, in fact, it’s a crime.”

In contrast to the serious tone of the publication, the commentary section has been flooded with non-stop wisecracking, as the majority of the locals apparently took the practical joke rather lightheartedly.

“We ain’t snitches,” Valerie Cervoni wrote.

“Whoever posted this, does not understand how the internet works,” another user quipped.

Hashtags #googlyeyebandit and #googleeyesmatter, meanwhile, were launched.

History-savvy commentators suggested that it might be the handiwork of Lord Cornwallis, Greene’s British nemesis, whose troops the American general defeated at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in March 1781.

Some pointed out that the amount of attention the googly-eyed stunt is getting is unnecessary and will only trigger copycats. Others had to make it about race.

“Turns out that I’m nowhere near white enough to be outraged by this,” Kara Bryant Greathouse wrote.

And some reminded the officials there were actual problems to be worried about next door.

“There’s literally a town that’s completely leveled right now and we are worried about $ 2 eyeballs that barely stick on a good day?” Ashley Jones wrote.

While eastern Georgia has been spared the brunt of the hurricane Michael, the southwestern part of the state is reeling from the calamity that battered it with gusting winds and even spawned a tornado. An 11-year old girl was killed by a tree that fell on her home in Seminole County.
