A severe thunderstorm moving through northern Georgia has caused flash flooding on major roads in Atlanta, stranding motorists during the evening rush hour.

Thunderstorm warnings on Friday afternoon predicted 60 mph (96 kph) winds and 1-inch (2.5 cm) hail. The heavy storm dumped over 2 inches (5 cm) of rain on the city in less than an hour.

A dramatic video by the Atlanta Fire Department showed firefighters rescuing a driver from a stranded vehicle in the southern suburbs.

Though the waters are slowly receding, the authorities are warning motorists to “turn around, don’t drown” if they encounter a flooded section of roadway.

Denver police announced Friday that they had arrested a local 29-year-old Uber driver, Michael A. Hancock, on suspected first-degree murder.

Hancock is believed to have shot and killed his passenger with his Ruger SR40 in the early hours of Friday morning while they were driving down Interstate 25, a primary north-south artery in the city.

According to USA Today, Hancock shot Hyun Kim, 45, after he claimed that Kim assaulted him.

ICYMI, this video made the rounds over the weekend. A traffic camera in Milwaukee captured this video of a pickup hopping up onto Jersey barriers on Interstate 43, mowing down two light poles, then hopping back down again.

The poles fell into oncoming traffic. No one was hurt, but cars were damaged. The driver, to no surprise, has been charged with DUI.

The record-breaking rainfall from Tropical Storm Harvey has caused unprecedented flooding in Texas since it first made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on Friday night.

Despite its downgrade to a tropical storm, Harvey has drenched some regions of Texas with more than 50 inches of water. One dramatic photo posted online shows waves rising along a portion of Interstate 10 in Texas.

The image, which has been shared widely on social media, shows waves flowing alongside the interstate. An overhead freeway sign can be seen in the distance just a few feet above the floodwater. Storyful editor David Clinch shared video of the scene, which shows a boat speeding past partially submerged buildings.

Two to four feet of rain have fallen on southeastern Texas as of Tuesday evening, rendering cities like Houston unrecognizable in the deluge.

Shocking videos of a plane crashing into a California freeway and bursting into a ball of fire have been released by John Wayne Airport.

The plane had just taken off from the airport when it experienced a power failure. The pilot attempted to land back in the airport, but crash landed on its outskirts.

The small Cessna plane came down on the 405 Freeway near the MacArthur Boulevard on June 30, leaving a trail of flames in its wake.

Two passengers were seriously injured, but are expected to make full recoveries, ABC7 reports.

The videos show the fiery crash from two opposing angles.

“The fact a plane can crash-land on the freeway and only strike one vehicle is extraordinary,” Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz told the LA Times.

An Ohio police officer is being hailed as a hero by the local woodland creature community after rescuing a small fawn who was trapped on the shoulder of a busy freeway.

According to Cleveland.com, Cincinnati Police Officer Roger Noe was dispatched to Columbia Parkway in Cincinnati after a small fawn was reported wandering on the shoulder. Noe and fellow Officer Trish Yates found the terrified creature huddled against a retaining wall on the northbound shoulder.

Noe quickly pulled on a pair of latex gloves – probably to minimize the transfer of human smell – and jumped out of his cruiser to assist the fawn. After a bit of scrabbling around, he was able to pick the animal up and put it in the back of his car. Once he got the animal in the car and settled, he drove to a nearby wooded area and released it where it soon reunited with its mother.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Cincinnati Police Department said that it usually discourages citizens from disturbing or attempting to assist animals on or near a busy highway. This fawn would likely have met an ugly end on the parkway, so the officers made an exception. But it was a risky situation for them.

The local deer community is currently discussing the best way to reward Officers Noe and Yates for their brave rescue of the fawn.
