  • Foreign leaders attending Queen Elizabeth's funeral have been advised to fly commercial.
  • They have also been banned from using helicopters, according to documents obtained by Politico.

Foreign leaders and their spouses attending Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in London on September 19 have been advised to fly to the UK on commercial flights and are banned from using helicopters, according to documents obtained by Politico.

The documents from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office were sent from the UK to embassies, the outlet reported. The FCDO anticipates the funeral service will be at capacity, so no more than one representative per country and their spouse will be invited to attend. 

The department said it "regrets that, because of limited space at the state funeral service and associated events, no other members of the principal guest's family, staff or entourage may be admitted."

The FCDO advised funeral attendees to fly commercial "where possible" because London Heathrow airport will not have private flight arrangements or aircraft parking, despite the airport normally accommodating private jets. The department also banned helicopter transfers between airports because of the volume of flights.

World leaders were also told they will be bussed in groups to the funeral at Westminster Abbey and cannot use their own state cars to attend the service, Politico reported.

One unnamed foreign ambassador sent a message to Politico reporters on WhatsApp on Sunday, saying: "Can you imagine Joe Biden on the bus?"

Preparing for an event like this also comes with security concerns. Next weekend's premier league soccer games might be postponed due to a lack of police resources that may be diverted to the funeral, according to iNews.

Politico reported that an FCDO document detailing logistics for those traveling to the service from abroad says "multiple and comprehensive layers of security will be in place across London and at all the official venues used for the state funeral and associated events."

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at 96 years old, ending an era for the UK. Her son, now King Charles III, attended his accession ceremony on Saturday.

The Queen's coffin is currently being transported from Balmoral, Scotland, where she died, to London. Along the way, the hearse will make multiple stops in Scotland, before reaching the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is the official residence of the monarch in Scotland, the BBC reported.

After the monarch's funeral, the Queen will reach her final resting place in Windsor Castle next to her late husband, Prince Philip who died in April 2021 at age 99.

Highly confidential details about a foreign government's nuclear capabilities were among some of the documents that were seized by the FBI from former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home earlier in August, according to a new report from The Washington Post, which cited several unnamed sources familiar with the search.

Prior to the raid, Trump's team returned some documents that belonged to the government to the National Archives — more than 180 of which were later found to be marked classified.

But the FBI raid turned over more White House files, including about 26 boxes and 11 sets of classified material. 

It was during the August 8 search that federal investigators found documents about a foreign government's nuclear defense capabilities, several anonymous sources familiar with the investigation told The Post.

Details about which foreign government was in question and where Trump may have stored the documents were not revealed.

A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On Monday, a federal judge in Florida approved Trump's request for a court-appointed third party to review the files that were seized from Mar-a-Lago.

The Justice Department has argued that having a special master would "impede" its investigation.

A White House spokesperson and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Former President Donald Trump was very interested in hearing intelligence reports about foreign leaders, particularly regarding their romantic affairs, according to The New York Times.

In its article published on Thursday, the outlet spoke to former Trump-era officials and people responsible for giving him intelligence, who said that he was very interested in reports that had a narrative to them. This included details about how his meetings with other world leaders had gone. 

The Times also reported that Trump was eager to hear about the CIA's information on foreign leaders' extramarital affairs. According to the outlet's interviewees, Trump's interest stemmed from the amusement he derived from the reports he heard rather than his desire to build up potential blackmail material.

"He is all about leverage," Sue Gordon, a former principal deputy director of national intelligence, told The Times. "It is not my experience that he has an ideologically held view about anything. It's all about what he can use as leverage in this moment."

A representative at Trump's post-presidential press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider. 

The Times' report came following a Rolling Stone article published this week that revealed how Trump had been bragging to his aides about having dirt on French President Emmanuel Macron's sex life.

It is unclear if Trump ever possessed compromising information on Macron. However, a file labeled "info re: President of France" was among the documents found by the FBI during its raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence earlier this month.

The FBI is now investigating whether Trump broke three federal laws, including the Espionage Act, by keeping classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. During its August 8 raid, the agency seized 11 sets of classified documents from the property. Per The Washington Post, some files were marked top secret and concerned nuclear weapons.

The Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attacks on Libya’s foreign ministry in Tripoli, which have left at least three people dead and over half-a-dozen injured.

Three armed gunmen stormed the foreign ministry of Libya’s internationally recognized government in Tripoli on Tuesday morning, killing three employees and injuring at least ten others. Later in the day, the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, through its propaganda outlet.

The assault on the diplomatic compound began at around 9:30am with the detonation of a car bomb in front of the building. Immediately afterwards the gunmen opened fire and two of them managed to get inside and blow themselves up. The third attacker was killed in the gunfire exchange with the ministry guards.

Iran’s foreign minister tweeted an English language Christmas message, wishing ‘peace and joy’ in 2019. Christians are free to practice in the Islamic republic, but promoting conversions from Islam are illegal.

Zarif, who often sends political messages via twitter, and even argues with the US President (link), used a line from the Koran to congratulate on the holiday. He had to correct the number of the verse in the follow up tweet after followers pointed to the mistake.

“The angels said, ‘Mary, God gives you good tidings of a Word from Him whose name is Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary; high honored shall he be in this world and the next, near stationed to God.’(QURAN 3:45) May the blessings of the birth of Jesus usher peace and joy to all in 2019,” the tweet read.

Jesus is recognized in Islam as an important prophet, but not God. Over 300,000 Christians live in Iran, mostly of Armenian and Assyrian descent, with at least 600 churches throughout the country that have been decorated for the holiday. Local media outlets posted videos of Tehran’s streets decorated for Christmas.

Christians and other religious minorities are free to practice their rituals in Iran if they do not violate the country’s laws like drinking alcohol, including wine, and trying to convert Muslims.

The main goal of Moscow, according to the proposed legislation, is to significantly decrease dependence of the Russian internet sector on foreign infrastructure. The document envisions setting up national groundwork to keep Russia’s internet functional, even if servers abroad become unavailable for any reason. This includes the creation of an entirely new system of national domain names, one of the legislation’s sponsors, Duma deputy Andrey Lugovoy, explained.

“We’re not creating our own internet. We’re just setting up a backup infrastructure. We’re duplicating it locally, so that our citizens would have access to the internet in case of any emergency,” Lugovoy told RIA Novosti.

As well as this, Russian cyberspace may also come under the centralized governance of the country’s media watchdog Roscomnadzor, well-known for its activities related to blocking rogue actors that feature outlawed content. The measure is expected to be triggered only in case of “the emergence of a threat to the integrity, stability and safety of the internet functioning in Russia,” according to the proposed legislation.

To actually make the “centralized governance” work, the legislation proposes to oblige internet providers to set up equipment that can detect the source of any internet traffic.

The bill has been already welcomed by Russia’s Ministry of Information. Given the scope of the idea, however, it’s quite hard to predict when it would become effective, if the legislation is adopted.

“The task is global,” deputy Minister of information Oleg Ivanov said. “It definitely cannot be done within a year, it would take several. We need to look into it in detail, when such a system is engineered. Then we can talk about a realistic timeframe.”
