<p>While Ford <a target="_blank" href="https://www.autoblog.com/2019/01/09/2020-ford-explorer-revealed-rear-drive-platform-naias/">already revealed its redesigned Explorer SUV,</a> today at the Detroit Auto Show we&#8217;re learning more about the new Hybrid version. Ford claims that this year it&#8217;s introducing a whole slew of hybrid vehicles that combine performance and extended range via their efficiency, and this one is just the first. While we don&#8217;t have all the details on its powertrain yet, the 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid has a 3.3-liter V6 that&#8217;s part of a hybrid system producing 318 HP (no word on torque &#8212; yet), while pulling more than 500 miles of range from its 19.3 gallon gas tank.</p>
<p>Beyond making life a little greener for SUV owners, Explorer chief engineer Bill Gubing points out that &#8220;Reduced cargo space in hybrids is a thing of the past for Ford customers.&#8221; Unlike other Ford hybrid vehicles that sacrificed space for big, awkwardly-placed battery packs, this one slides its specially designed liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery into the chassis beneath the second row seats so owners don&#8217;t have to give up legroom or cargo space.</p>

<p>Earlier this year, GM officially <a target="_blank" href="https://www.engadget.com/2018/07/24/gm-maven-car-sharing-program-launches/">launched</a> a program called Maven that gives people a way to earn extra money by renting out their cars. It&#8217;s only open to Chevrolet-, Buick-, GMC- and Cadillac-branded vehicles, though &#8212; in other words, cars from GM&#8217;s auto brands. According to <em><a target="_blank" href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/11/12/gm-is-going-to-allow-ford-vehicles-and-other-competitors-on-its-maven-car-sharing-platform/">TechCrunch</a></em>, though, the automaker plans to expand the peer-to-peer car-sharing program&#8217;s reach and open it to vehicles from its competitors. GM Urban Mobility and Maven VP Julia Steyn has announced at the <a target="_blank" href="https://event.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1219700&amp;tp_key=1b1573ba6d">UBS Global Technology Conference</a> that Maven will start accepting rival vehicles to the platform by mid-2019.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not entirely clear if Maven will welcome cars from all automakers, but it sounds like at least some Ford and Tesla models will be. In addition, GM will open the platform up to micro-fleet entrepreneurs and will also expand it to Canada and other international markets. By doing all those, the company is hoping to make Maven much bigger than it is today, with a lot more and diverse vehicles on offer. Steyn said: &#8220;If, at some point, there&#8217;s a UFO that you want shared and you want to be on the platform and it&#8217;s going to do a job for somebody, we&#8217;ll be able to put it on the platform.&#8221;</p>

<p>Ford&#8217;s sales in China nosedived in September as a slew of factors, including <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/us-china-trade-war?utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=referral">President Donald Trump&#8217;s trade war</a> and a slowdown in the Chinese economy, slammed the company.</p>

<p>        US Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee was caught on video slipping an envelope to Christine Blasey Ford&#8217;s attorney during hearings on accusations against the SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, triggering a wave of speculation on its contents.</p>

<p>The envelope slip was very brief and quite secretive, yet it did not escape the cameras.</p>
<p>The mysterious transfer prompted speculations on what exactly was inside the envelope, with the leading &ndash; and obvious &ndash; theory it contained a wad of cash.</p>
<p>The manner in which the attorney handled the envelope, putting it straight into his pocket without even looking, prompted some questions as well.</p>
<p>Some people, however, assumed the package contained something more personal than a bunch of Federal Reserve notes.</p>
<p>Jackson Lee was quick to debunk the conspiracy theories, stating the envelope merely contained some ol&rsquo; boring legal papers.</p>
<p><em>&ldquo;Simply, what was passed were unopened stationery notes to counsel for Dr. Ford from women who wanted to enter the hearing room but were not allowed to enter the hearing room,&rdquo;</em> the congresswoman&#8217;s press office has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.click2houston.com/news/what-was-in-the-envelope-rep-sheila-jackson-lee-handed-to-ford-s-attorney-" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">said</a>.</p>
