Amazon has killed off the anime streaming platform it launched merely a year ago, according to Kotaku, and we’re not exactly surprised. Anime Strike required an additional $ 5 a month on top of Prime Video membership fees, after all, which might have been a bit too much for subscribers already paying $ 99 a year. Amazon has already incorporated its shows into Prime Video — yes, including its exclusives — and we’ll bet a lot of people would say that that should’ve been the case from the start.

Strike had exclusives (such as Inuyashiki and Re:CREATORS) you couldn’t find on Crunchyroll and Funimation, but they clearly weren’t enough to convince people to sign up. Fans likely spent their five bucks a month on a Crunchyroll subscription, which had more titles to offer, instead. It also didn’t help that Strike was only available in the US, thereby limiting its potential audience.

Amazon told Kotaku that it has decided to “move the curated catalogs of Anime Strike” to Prime Video “so that more customers can enjoy this content as part of their Prime membership.” It’s unclear if Channels, as paid add-ons on top of Prime Video, aren’t doing well as a whole or if some of them simply can’t get enough subscriptions to continue. Either way, Anime Strike isn’t alone: Amazon has also dissolved its Bollywood platform Heera and has made its shows and movies available on its video streaming platform.

On a landscape increasingly driven by smart devices, a digital smart lock seemed like an obvious addition to the raft of home automation products already on the market. But Otto, the company that came closer than any other to making the product a sellable reality, has now closed its doors — just four months after showing off its device to the world.

Otto founder and CEO Sam Jadallah reveals in a lengthy Medium post, titled “So Close“, that the startup came so close to getting its digital lock on the market that there’s a warehouse full of them ready to go. But the company was due to be acquired by a bigger firm — one with more resources and experience — and the deal fell apart at the last minute. There was no Plan B, so in the warehouse the product stays and, as reports on Twitter suggest, most of Otto team are left out of work.

No names have been mentioned regarding the acquisition, and frustratingly for Otto, the buyer apparently never gave a reason for its decision to pull out of the deal. But there’s no doubt that all parties involved had confidence in the product’s potential, even with its $ 699 price tag, which the company believed was made more palatable by the $ 1,000 iPhone normalizing the high cost of must-have tech.

Speaking to Techcrunch, Jadallah points to the volatility of Silicon Valley as a fact of life for startups, and notes that even those onto a sure thing aren’t immune from it. “The life of the startup is a binary thing. To go from what could be an incredible high to crushing low in a matter of hours is what we do.” Still, despite its failure to launch, the product got interest — serious interest. It’s only a matter of time before another company takes smart home locks mainstream, or as Otto would undoubtedly prefer, steps in to put the locks stored in that warehouse on doors, where they belong.

This Slim Display Mode ought to come in handy when the car’s new Variable Drift Control is put to the test. When drifting, visual cues outside the car are a little more important than what song is playing at the time or your fuel economy. When the large gauge screen is folded down, a smaller display strip shows the gear, tachometer, and speed. Simple enough.

When the big screen is in place, the full trip computer, a round tach, and helpful gauges like fuel and temp show up. This foldy screen (McLaren calls it the Folding Driver Display) is one part of the new McLaren Driver Interface, which also includes a new 8.0-inch center screen with a revised interface to control audio, navigation, and settings. There are some hard buttons as well, although we’re not sure what they control and McLaren didn’t release photos of the touch screen or center stack.

And yes, we’ve already seen the new McLaren 720S thanks to an Instagram leak, but full details on the car won’t be revealed until next week at the Geneva show.

After shooting the woman he loved, Dan becomes consumed with guilt, disappears into the wilderness and was presumed dead. Without a sheriff, the people of Fortitude begin to wonder whether Deputy Eric Odegard (Hlynur Haraldsson), who has spent the last few weeks desperately searching for Dan, can fill his shoes. When a new body is discovered on the other side of town, Eric must step up and lead this horrific investigation.

Season 1 aired Stateside on Pivot, which Participant Media shuttered last fall.

New to the cast for Season 2 (which has already aired in some international parts) are Dennis Quaid — as Michael Lennox, a fisherman who will try anything to cure his terminally ill wife — Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones) and Parminder Nagra (ER), among others.
