Last Christmas Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi hit cinemas and completely divided fans.

Many felt what was set up by JJ Abrams in The Force Awakens wasn’t handled well from Rey’s parents reveal to Snoke’s untimely death.

Five months later and Solo hit cinemas taking less than $ 400 million at the worldwide box office, despite previous instalments hitting $ 1 billion.

Since this misfire, it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm have been reassessing their mass plans for the Star Wars universe moving forward.

With Abrams back in the director’s chair for Star Wars Episode IX, perhaps a nostalgic return to the form of what worked in The Force Awakens is around the corner?

Well, now it looks like the studios have taken the fan response and lack of audience from Solo on board, as a new report alludes.

According to Variety, Abrams is “currently working on Star Wars: Episode IX, which has been billed as a course correction at Lucasfilm after spinoff films like Solo failed to meet the label’s high commercial expectations.”

According to Rolling Stone, the 26-year-old said: “Everyone was saying it was going to be Rian [Johnson, The Last Jedi director] and everything, so I was genuinely quite surprised.

“And was like ‘Oh my god!’ and I started crying immediately with three people in the office. 

“And they were like, ‘What the f*** just happened?’ So I emailed J.J. saying, ‘Oh my god I am crying.’ 

“And he goes, ‘Oh my god, me too.’ And then we had a conversation a few days later and we stay in touch. But we stayed in touch the whole time anyway.”

What exactly Abrams has in store for the sequel trilogy finale is anyone’s guess.

However, it does also mark the end of the Skywalker saga too.

So hopefully there will be some nods to both the prequel and original trilogies too.

Star Wars: Episode IX is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.

Bella was retired to a rescue home after just four contests. 

But the seven-year-old blue greyhound is now the canine lead in All The Money In The World, the latest offering from Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott.

The film, which has landed Christopher Plummer a Best Supporting Actor nomination, tells the story of the kidnapping of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s 16-year-old grandson in 1973. 

Bella’s docile nature made her a natural in auditions for the film, which owner Liam Stubbings saw on a Facebook advert. 

Liam, 42, who along with his partner Kelly was sworn to secrecy about the audition last summer until now, said: “Greyhounds are not known for their obedience but Bella just lay down and sat there.” 

He added: “She’s not your average greyhound. She’s incredibly laid-back. It’s unusual for a greyhound not to have any chase instinct.”

Bella appears in the movie eating scraps from the floor in a flashback scene in Morocco, which was filmed at Yelverton Hall, Norfolk. 

Liam, from Heybridge, Essex, said: “Apparently the director Ridley Scott had been wandering around the set for the Morocco scene and came to the conclusion he wanted some greyhounds sniffing around there.” 

Liam, who is a volunteer with Kelly at Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue in Little Totham, where they first met Bella, said she won over director Scott at the audition. 

Liam said: “It’s been a nightmare not being able to talk about it and tell people how well she’s done.

“We went to the set and Bella lay down to get accustomed. 

“This American guy came over, making a big fuss of Bella and chatting to me. 

“Then someone came over and said, ‘Ridley, we’re ready to start filming’.” 

Plummer, who at 88 is the oldest actor ever to be nominated for an Oscar, stepped into the role as J. Paul Getty at the last minute to replace Kevin Spacey following sex allegations against the actor.

Snap’s much-hyped Spectacles glasses are, by commercial standards, a total flop.

Besides selling only 150,000 pairs in the past year, Snap’s first foray into making hardware failed to excite customers past their initial purchase.

Snap’s internal data showed that well under half of Spectacles owners continued to use the camera-equipped sunglasses after just four weeks, Business Insider has learned. A person familiar with the data called the retention rate “shockingly low” and added that a sizable percentage of owners would stop using the glasses after just one week.

The lack of sustained interest in the glasses helps explain the misstep by Snap, following a report in The Information on Monday that Snap has “hundreds of thousands” of unsold Spectacles sitting in warehouses. And it represents another blow to Snap’s aspirations of branching into the hardware market and transforming itself into a “camera company.”

A Snap spokesperson declined to comment on the previously unreported data. The spokesperson said that Snap has worked to improve how the glasses work through software updates over the past year and is pleased that 73% of reviews for Spectacles on Amazon give the product a five-star rating.

Snap introduced Spectacles, which sell for $ 130 in three colors, in September 2016 through yellow vending machines that would appear unannounced in different parts of the US — a clever marketing trick that garnered long lines initially. In February, Snap started selling Spectacles online before making them available in Europe a few months later.

CEO Evan Spiegel recently said that Snap had sold a total of 150,000 Spectacles, beating the company’s own hope of selling 100,000. “We’re just sort of beginning to dabble in hardware,” he said while onstage at Vanity Fair’s The New Establishment Conference earlier this month.

But the team behind Snap’s hardware efforts, a group known internally as Snap Labs, has already gone through significant turmoil in its short history. The division recently laid off roughly one dozen employees supporting Spectacles and put a new executive, Mark Randall, in charge with the title VP of Hardware.

Making hardware is also an expensive bet for Snap, which is under intense scrutiny from Wall Street to grow its ad business in the face of mounting pressure from Facebook. Snap said in an August regulatory filing with the SEC that it had $ 29 million in “hardware inventory commitments.” But the company has generated just under $ 20 million in revenue from Spectacles to date, based on quarterly earnings statements.
