Marrakech is the capital city of Morroco

Nowadays, my holiday requirements (and budget) have changed somewhat, and I wanted to see if Marrakech had too.

There are plenty of big, flashy hotels on the outskirts of the city now, but my boyfriend and I wanted to stay somewhere that still felt authentic, and so booked into La Sultana hotel.

In fact, as our taxi driver stopped down a narrow, bustling market street just inside the city walls, we wondered if he’d got the right address. However, stepping into La Sultana is like entering a little bubble of calmness.

The hotel’s 28 rooms are laid out in a traditional riad style around charming courtyards and, although all decorated in a classic Moroccan style (think heavy wooden furniture, rich furnishings and ornate carvings), no two are alike.

 We were staying in the luxurious Elephant Suite, which was huge and full of extra-special little details, like the bath that transformed into a jacuzzi at the pull of a rope and the tray of pastries on our arrival.

The pool is small but beautifully designed, and the rooftop is the perfect spot to enjoy an aperitif while taking in the views of the grand Koutoubia Mosque, the white storks that nest on nearby roofs and the Atlas Mountains on the horizon.

Breakfast and dinner (both completely delicious) are also served here when the weather’s good. 

The hotel’s a 10-minute walk to the Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakech’s main square, where all the action happens.

Fairly quiet during the day, as the sun sets it comes alive with food stalls, musicians and entertainers.

From here, wander through the maze of stalls selling everything from leather babouche slippers and intricate silver teapots to towering piles of colourful spices. Guides are available but getting lost is part of the fun, and you’ll always spot a sign leading you back to the square before long.

As we ambled around the crowded lanes we stumbled upon the Jardin Secret, a 19th-century palace with stunning gardens, architecture and tiling. It provided a brief but welcome moment of peace from the hustle outside.

The Bahia Palace, the Museum of Marrakech and the Saadian Tombs are all within walking distance, and if you’re staying for a few days, a trip up into the Atlas Mountains is an excellent way to see some of Morocco’s rugged landscape and the traditional Berber way of life.

Another Marrakech must-do is the Jardin Majorelle, which was bought by Yves Saint Laurent in 1980 and restored to its former glory.

With a vast collection of exotic plants set among bright cobalt blue and canary yellow walls, as well as a small Berber museum and pretty courtyard café, it’s a real feast for the senses.

Guests at La Sultana get free entry. Arrive early in the day to beat the tour groups and wannabe fashion bloggers vying for the most instagrammable spots.

There’s no better way to slough off the day’s dust than with a traditional hammam, and La Sultana’s is worth booking in for even if you’re not a guest.

Forget any gentle treatment you might have had at a spa back home – at hammams, you’re washed, steamed and scrubbed vigorously by a no-nonsense therapist.

Relaxing it is not, but I was left with the cleanest, smoothest skin I’d had in ages.

Fortunately, we followed this with the spa’s signature massage, which was relaxing, our limbs expertly kneaded with natural Moroccan argan oil, leaving us just at the point of drifting off.

While my style of holiday might have changed, Marrakech still has all the charm, character and authenticity that I remembered.

More than a third of people aged 25 to 34 (37 per cent) have drunk five or six different types of tea at home or at work in the past month – compared to just three per cent of people aged over 55.

More than half of the people aged over 55 who drink tea once a day or less say it’s because they prefer coffee, according to research by consumer analysts Mintel.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that tea sales are estimated to fall by three per in 2017 to 75 million kilos.While three in four of those aged 25 to 34 drink standard black tea (74 per cent), around half drink fruit tea or herbal/spice tea (51per cent), green tea (52 per cent), and speciality black tea (50 per cent).

One in three (34 per cent) drink instant tea.

Overall, 70 per cent of British adults drink standard black tea, but less than two in five drink fruit tea or herbal/spice tea (36 per cent), green tea (34 per cent), speciality black tea (34 per cent) and just 17 per cent drink instant tea.

More than half of those aged 25 to 34 ( 56 per cent) who drink tea and other hot drinks say that flavoured teas are a good alternative to sugary drinks, up from an average of 49 per cent.

Anita Winther, food and drink analyst at Mintel, said: “Consumers aged 25 to 34 have the widest repertoire of tea, which is reflective of this age group typically having a more adventurous attitude towards food and drink, with a greater tendency to seek out new foods and flavours to try.

“While sweet flavours have been around in the tea market for a while now, these launches will help grow tea usage among younger consumers.”

The report shows that sales of tea in Britain fell by five per cent last year to 77 million kilos, while the market is estimated to slip a further three per cent this year.

And tea sales look set to come under further strain, with the market forecast to fall by 13 per cent over the next five years to 65 million kilos in 2022.While the humble teapot is a British icon, it seems that a coffee pot may be more fitting for the older generation.

Older people are still the most frequent tea drinkers with 52 per cent of those aged over 55 drinking standard black tea once a day or less.

But more than half (55 per cent) say they don’t drink it more often as they prefer the taste of coffee.

But while 80 per cent of those aged 16 to 34 drink standard black tea once a day or less, less than one in four (23 per cent) say it is because they prefer the taste of coffee.Instead, it seems it’s the sweet tooth of younger people that’s turning them away from the tea caddy.

One in five peoples aged 16 to 24 say they don’t drink tea more often as it tastes too bitter, compared to 10 per cent of those aged over 55 who say the same.

Meanwhile, 18 per cent of those aged under 25 say they don’t drink tea more as they prefer sweeter drinks, compared to just three per cent of those aged 55.Ms Winther added:

“Tea remains under pressure from a barrage of competition from other drinks.

“While coffee has successfully injected connoisseur, indulgent and on-trend elements to the category, tea continues to struggle to deliver the same experience. This poses a marked threat to the category.

“Where tea has failed to establish itself as a menu staple for younger adults, it is likely to struggle to gain ground in their drinks repertoires later on.”

Ben & Jerry’s is always pushing the boundaries when it comes to ice cream, and the brand’s latest concoctions are even more creative.

The ice cream giant has come up with Topped – a range of three flavours that add an extra layer into the mix, with a different topping on each one.

There’s Topped: Salted Caramel Brownie, featuring brownies from New York’s Greyston Bakery, Fairtrade chocolate ampersand shaped chunks and salted caramel swirls, and topped with an extra layer of soft gooey chocolate and extra chocolate chunks.

Next up is Topped: Chocolate Caramel Cookie Dough, with chocolate ice cream, caramel swirls, ampersand shaped chocolate chunks and cookie dough chunks, all finished off with a spoonable soft chocolatey topping and chocolate chunks. 

Finally there’s Topped: Strawberry Swirled, a combination of vanilla ice cream, strawberry and marshmallow swirls, shortbread chunks, white chocolate ampersand shaped chunks and a white spoonable topping with extra white chocolate chunks on top.

“We’ve been mixing ice cream with big chunks and swirls for a long time now, and thought it was about time we took things up a level!” said Ben & Jerry’s flavour guru Andrea Ball. 

“While the chocolatey layer makes it Topped, what’s underneath makes it Ben & Jerry’s. 

“Big spoon or little spoon, we think this is something our fans will enjoy curling up with.”

Ben & Jerry’s UK and Ireland brand manager, Christina Dunn, added: “The Topped family is our most euphoric concoction yet, combining all the Ben & Jerry’s euphoria fans love, with never-before-seen flavour combinations, such as cookie dough with chocolate ice cream and caramel swirls, plus an all new gooey chocolate topping.”

The Topped flavours will be available nationwide from March, retailing at £5.49.

This comes after Express.co.uk reported that you can now buy giant Kinder Surprise eggs.

The huge version of the popular German chocolate treat is made with exactly the same recipe, and is just a larger version of the fun delicacy.

Known for its delicious milky recipe and two toned outer and inner shell, the huge Kinder Surprise egg is hitting shelves for Easter. 

The eggs are five times the size of the regular snack and weight 100g.

They will also contain the covetable My Little Pony or Transformers: Robots in Disguise toys inside.

They cost between £5 to £15 and will be available in British supermarkets, including Asda and Tesco.
