South Korean short-track champion Shim Suk-hee has revealed that she was subjected to systematic physical abuse for more than 10 years in a court testimony given against her coach Cho Jae-beon.

The 21-year-old skater detailed horrific scenes from her training process, adding that the coach’s brutality resulted in numerous injuries, including broken bones and concussion.

“When I was in fourth grade, I suffered broken fingers after getting stuck by an ice hockey stick,” she said while attending an appeal trial at the Suwon District Court in South Korea.

Shim, who won three medals at the Sochi Olympics, said that her coach’s horrible attacks started when she was just eight, and lasted until the Pyeongchang Winter Games when the skater sustained a concussion after being hit in the head.

“Before the Pyeongchang Olympics, he kicked and punched me so hard that I thought I was going to die,” Shim said. “I had a concussion afterwards, and I fainted and fell down during the Olympics because of that,” she added.

Cho was sentenced to 10 months in prison in September for assaulting four short-track speed skaters, including Shim, but appealed the indictment denying all the allegations brought against him.

The tough Aussie all-rounder dropped his shoulder when the fan got a little too close at the non-striker’s end, sending him to the ground and making an arrest that much easier for the pursuing police.

What the unfortunate nudie probably didn’t realise at the time was that Symonds – now a commentator for Fox Sports during the current T20 series betyween Australia and India – had prior form.

Footage has been unearthed from 11 years earlier of Symonds taking down a pitch invader (he had cargo shorts on so he’s not technically a streaker) during a domestic one-day game between Queensland and Western Australia at the WACA in 1997.

At the same venue that Terry Alderman fell and hurt himself badly trying to tackle a pitch invader in 1981, Symonds pushed any thought of personal injury aside to bring the interrupting fan down with an impressive tackle.

After a brief tussle the offending fan got up and evaded Symonds’ second attempt and escaped into the crowd, something 21 years later Symonds lamented.

It’s no wonder Broncos coach Wayne Bennett was interested when Symonds sounded out the super coach of the possibility of switching to rugby league.

It’s been less than six months since HBO (and the rest of what is now called WarnerMedia) joined AT&T, and now we have our first bonafide carriage dispute. Both AT&T and Dish blamed the other for HBO and Cinemax going dark on the Dish Network and Sling TV services, in the first such tiff of HBO’s 40-year history.

Dish cited the DOJ’s case against AT&T/DirecTV purchasing Time Warner, which is now pending an appeal, and claimed that it welcomes “baseball-style arbitration” to resolve the dispute. On AT&T’s side, it said in a statement given to Reuters that “The Department of Justice collaborated closely with Dish in its unsuccessful lawsuit to block our merger” and claimed that collaboration continues with a “tactical decision” by Dish to drop HBO.

WarnerMedia claims it offered to extend the previous contract while negotiating but that Dish declined. Whatever the truth is, this squabble between media giants won’t get the channel turned back on for paying customers until the sides figure something out, and with that case still working its way back to court in December, it could be a while.

Microsoft’s newest game accessory, the Xbox Adaptive Controller, probably isn’t for you. That’s just an odds game, when counting the percentage of people who fall into the “limited mobility” camp that this strange, unique controller is aimed at.

But that’s the incredible thing about the XAC: that it’s targeting a particularly fractured audience. Limited mobility is a giant, vague category, after all, with so many physical ailments to account for (let alone psychological ones). And previous answers in the gaming sphere have typically been specialized, one-of-a-kind controllers for single hands, feet, heads, and more.

XAC wins out in an odd way: by leaving some major work in users’ hands. This $ 99 lap-sized device is truly incomplete on its own, as it’s designed from the ground up to require add-on joysticks, buttons, and more. The main symptoms of lung cancer include problems associated directly with your lungs.

These comprise persistent or long-standing coughs, persistent chest infections, coughing up blood, persistent breathlessness, and aches or pains when breathing or coughing.

Other common symptoms are constant tiredness or lack of energy, loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss.

However, aside from the more common symptoms, a less common symptom is finger clubbing.

Finger clubbing is when the fingers and fingernails change shape, becoming more curved or larger at the ends.

According to Cancer Research UK, more than three out of 10 people with non small cell lung cancer will get finger clubbing.

However, only four out of 100 people with small cell lung cancer will develop finger clubbing.

Non small cell lung cancer is the most common type of primary lung cancer.

Small cell lung cancer is less common, making up about 10 per cent of lung cancers.

Finger clubbing happens in three stages:

First, the nail bed becomes soft an the skin next to the nail bed becomes shiny.

Second, the nails curve more than normal when looked at from the side.

Third, the ends of the fingers may get larger.

In the later stages of finger clubbing, extra areas of bone might form on the finger joints, wrists and ankles.

This is sometimes mistaken for arthritis and is called hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy.

Finger clubbing is thought to be caused by fluid collecting in the soft tissues at the ends of the fingers, which is caused by more blood flowing to the area than usual.

It may be due to the tumour producing particular chemicals or hormones.

“Finger clubbing is unusual. If you have it and are worried, do speak to your doctor. They should send you for a chest x-ray to check your heart and lungs,” said Cancer Research UK.

As well as finger clubbing, other less common symptoms of lung cancer include a high temperature or fever, difficulty or pain swallowing, wheezing, a hoarse voice, swelling of the face or neck, and persistent chest or shoulder pain.

According to cancer charity Macmillan, some of the symptoms of lung cancer can be caused by other conditions or by smoking.

Weather permitting, NASA will send its first spacecraft to Mars since 2013 early on Saturday morning.
