A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV, the retro beat-em-up originally shipped as part of the Final Fantasy 15 PS4 and Xbox One package is now a free download.

Having been originally released in November as a pre-order incentive, anyone with a PS4 and Xbox One console can now download the game for free.

A King’s Tale takes up around 2GB on both consoles and was confirmed to be launching as a standalone spin-off by Square Enix, earlier this year.

“Set in a fictitious 30 years before Final Fantasy XV this game features retro-style inspired graphics centered around a fast-paced combat system with influences from modern gaming,” the official description reads.

“The in-depth combat system blends intense attacks, devastating magic, mighty summons and unique companion attacks into a singular gaming experience through three diverse locations in the world of FINAL FANTASY XV.

“Restless before bed, young Noctis asks his father, King Regis, to tell a fairy tale full of fantasy and adventure instead of just another generic bedtime story. 

“Regis begins with a peaceful day being disrupted when monsters raid the royal capital, Insomnia. Young Regis, joined by Weskham, starts his adventure from the royal capital. 

“Eventually they are joined by friends Cid and Clarus, where they travel to the plains of Duscae only to discover a mysterious cave where their enemy resides.”

A King’s Tale was developed by Empty Clip Studios and Powerhouse Animation Studios and currently hold a 5-star rating from over 100 players on the PlayStation Store.

Unfortunately for those Final Fantasy 15 PC fans, there has been no word on whether the 2D title will make it to their platform of choice, either as part of the full FFXV package, or by itself.

A new Final Fantasy 15 DLC bonus has been announced by Square Enix this week, which looks to be directly pointed at the Japanese market.

15 different Nissin Cup Noodle hats are being added to the game and are collectable by grabbing the codes from the physical boxes.

The new hats are worn by main character Noctis and are themed around different boss characters from the sprawling series.

It doesn’t appear that the product is sold here so there are no guarantees will be getting the wacky DLC in the West.

Square Enix are also looking to gather intel on where to go next with future Final Fantasy XV updates.

A new survey has been launched by the developer, asking a range of questions which will help “shape the future” of the game.

Some of the last questions ask what players think of Season Passes and DLCs, while the final one inquires: “If you ask one thing to the developers of Final Fantasy XV, what would it be?”

The Final Fantasy 15 development team have been pretty open about their post-launch plans for the game, including adding new updates, reworking Chapter 13 and adding new DLC content.

New information surrounding the Final Fantasy 15 DLC launch pattern was recently revealed by director Hajime Tabata, who has outlined why certain characters are getting the star treatment first.

A range of new FFXV DLC content is being developed by Square Enix, which will focus on providing new playable characters, headed by the companions found in the vanilla storyline.

According to Tabata, the order in which the new DLC would expand the story and gaming mechanics was a mix of thought-out process, and last minute decision.

“Turns out that Episode Gladio has always been planned as the first DLC, as the team intends to deliver enhanced action battle gameplay for it,” Dualshockers revealed following a chat with Tabata.

“On the other hand, they have been debating internally on which one among Prompto and Ignis should come second.

“Ultimately, they opted to have Ignis as the protagonist of the last of the bro-focused DLCs, because what happens in his episode has a large impact on the story of Final Fantasy XV, and they want to have the time to create a really solid experience, pretty much keeping the best for last.”

During Square Enix’s big Final Fantasy anniversary event, the Tokyo-based game maker revealed “muteki suits” (invincible suits) as an upcoming free Final Fantasy XV download. If you thought the outfits (above) looked like Power Ranger costumes, you were not alone. 

The costumes were slated for a February 21 release and would give players invincibility for thirty minutes as well as improved fishing abilities. The catch was that the outfits could only be used once only every 24 hours. 

However, soon after the outfits were revealed, it was pointed out that they looked like Power Ranger suits (below).

In the most recent Active Time Report, Square Enix announced that the Power Rangers’ publisher pointed out the similarities and the costume will be released “at a later date.”

During the live stream, Square Enix marketing manager Akio Ofuji said, “We were told to be careful with what we say [about this]. So, I will let everyone know what’s going on.”

A smiling FFXV director Hajime Tabata replied, “Okay, okay.”

Ofuji continued, saying that they have been contacted by the Power Rangers people, pointing this out. “We spent the day looking into various things, and what we’ve decided is to redo the design.”

Tabata added that they weren’t trying to make knock-offs. He did add that when the suits were first revealed, there were many articles by foreign journalists, stating that Noctis was turning into a Power Ranger. 

“They don’t look exactly the same, and as for the copyright, even if these are our original designs, it seems like they will cause problems for others,” Tabata said. Thus, the team decided to redo the suits and will release them at a later date. Ofuji also pointed out that these costumes are free and asked fans to look forward to the new designs.

Square Enix made the announcement during the Active Time Report stream, in which it was revealed that an update for the FFXV thirteenth chapter would be launched very soon.

The date for release has been set for March 28, the same day that new Final Fantasy 15 DLC is to arrive on PS4 and Xbox One.

According to Gematsu, this will include various enhancements being made to Chapter 13, as well as allowing gamers to play as Gladiolus for a short period.

That’s away from the Final Fantasy 15 DLC being released on the same day, which also makes Gladiolus a playable character and will also star Gilgamesh, one of the franchise’s fan-favorite characters.

Game director Hajime Tabata made the announcement, along with confirming another update which will include PS4 Pro support.

The PS4 Pro patch will add 60 frames per second gameplay, while the rest of the update on February 21 will also add new game features for other platforms.

This includes limited time quests, a level cap increase to a 120, although experience points won’t count towards past level 99 until after the update, and a Photo capacity increase from 150 to 200.

Square Enix also plan to add music-playing options for when riding a Chocobo.

The Final Fantasy update planned for February 21 will also arrive with the DLC booster pack, which apparently could be revised a little before launch.

This is due to the publisher of Power Rangers pointing out that the design of the new Magitek Exosuit may clash, meaning a change in design is on the cards.

There will be a booster pack free version and a Booster Pack +, which will include the Magitek Exosuit that give players an advantage during battles.

Other items coming in the paid-for Booster Pack + bundle includes a new Boost Sword, Dragon Mod fishing rod and Aviol reel.

Square Enix also spoke of a new project being worked on to make free driving The Regalia more accessible in the game.

It will allow fans to drive The Regalia outside of designated roads, although the scope of how far this feature will currently covers is so far unknown.
