Ohio Senate candidate JD Vance is openly feuding with Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence.
In a Vogue interview published September 6, Lawrence said she was disgusted by the idea of Vance running in Ohio.
In the same interview, she said she used to think she was a Republican but later became solidly anti-Trump, and that she had recurring nightmares about Fox News host Tucker Carlson after the Supreme Court gutted Roe.
"He's not a hillbilly if he wrote a huge book. Rich twat," Lawrence said of Vance. "I mean, I'm a rich twat, but I'm not running for office pretending that I'm not."
Lawrence, who grew up in a suburb of Louisville, Kentucky, was referring to Vance's book, "Hillbilly Elegy." The best-selling memoir about Vance's life in the rust belt, published in 2016, was picked up by Netflix, which said in 2019 that it was spending $ 45 million to turn it into a movie.
Lawrence told Vogue she felt compelled to speak up about politics: "You have to be political. It's too dire. Politics are killing people."
On Saturday, Vance made an appearance on Fox News, where host Brian Kilmeade asked him if Lawrence was implying that "people in rural America can't read." Vance said he thought Lawrence's comments were a "classic example of Hollywood getting involved in politics."
"That's sort of the implication is that those of us who actually do buy books and read out here in the heartland are somehow not representative. I think that's ridiculous," Vance said. "I know a lot of people, a lot of friends and family who do like to read books, including mine."
He added that he thought people have "tuned out the politics of Hollywood."
"They're there for entertainment," Vance said of Hollywood figures like Lawrence. "I think when they do it well, great, but at the end of the day, they should leave politics to the people who actually vote and try to run in elections in this country."
Vance, once known to be anti-Trump, is now a supporter of the former president. In 2016, Vance suggested to a law school friend that Trump could be "America's Hitler." By 2022, he had switched allegiances, telling Vanity Fair he was "wrong about Trump" in the past. For his part, Trump has acknowledged that Vance used to disapprove of him, but said he has "put that aside."
In April, Ohio Republicans urged Trump not to back Vance for the Senate, asking that he pick a less risky candidate to endorse. However, Trump persisted in backing Vance and announced his endorsement on April 15. Vance won his primary in May and is now narrowly ahead of Democratic candidate Tim Ryan.
According to reporting from Insider's Madison Hall, the Yale-educated Vance made $ 347,752 in royalties in 2020 from "Hillbilly Elegy." In 2021, his earnings from the book grew to $ 475,380. Vance, a venture capitalist, also made $ 327,083 from his job at Narya Capital Management in Ohio in 2021.
Representatives for Lawrence and Vance did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

]]>Zemeckis dived deeper into Rand and Bacon, and found a whole other story to tell. Her resultant book, Feuding Fan Dancers: Faith Bacon, Sally Rand, and the Golden Age of the Showgirl, is out now from Counterpoint Press, and is a page-turning account of a very different time for sex and show-business. In this excerpt, Zemeckis describes Rand’s show-stopping appearance at the ’33 World’s Fair.
It was a day for pageantry, speeches, and patriotic pride. This world’s fair was proclaimed the “Century of Progress” to celebrate Chicago’s first 100 years and a century of advancements in science and technology.
The air crackled with anticipation and, more important, hope. There was optimism that as the citizens of America looked back at their past, they would somehow see into the future, and it would be a better place than it was at the moment.
The fair promised to bring jobs to hundreds and fill the city’s coffers. It was May 27, 1933, and the country’s economy was at rock bottom.
While bands played the “Star-Spangled Banner,” the promenades filled with people; flags snapped in the breeze. Though the skies would cover over in a few hours, no bad weather dampened opening day.
Riding the massive floats, a queen of the fair waved alongside her fifty ladies. The mayor addressed the crowds, vowing that “for the next five months,” Chicago, the country’s second-largest city with nearly four million people, would be “the educator and champion host of the world.”
Fireworks were launched from barges on Lake Michigan. A whistle blasted. Crowds streamed like a ribbon of fire ants up a faux gangplank, thousands marching through the entrance of a huge mock ocean liner with smokestacks that towered seventy-three feet in the air, eager and hungry to devour what lay across the “Atlantic,” transported “in spirit” unto the naughty boulevards of Paris.
Flower and cigarette girls greeted the crowds surging forward. Clutching wide-eyed children’s hands, parents pushed through the narrow streets of “the wicked city.” The three acres designated for the Streets of Paris exhibit was a Disneyesque re-creation of France’s capital, complete with a nudist colony (for surely Paris must have one) and the infamous Folies Bergère.
The smell of popcorn and fried potatoes wafted in the balmy air as shopkeepers hawked their wares for sale. “Direct from Montemarte!” Waitresses with jaunty berets on their heads weaved through the laughter, carrying steins of beer, as music streamed out of the hundreds of open-air cafés. Now that President Franklin Roosevelt allowed the sale of beer and wine, there seemed to be a “bar every minute.” Canopied sidewalks fought for space. Cafés “typical of Paris, like the Red Mill Café dotted with red-checkered tables, dance pavilions, theatres, even a swimming pool,” enticed visitors in all directions. “Merriment, camaraderie, noise, naughtiness” was the pledge of a visit to the Streets of Paris. It had been designed to help foot the cost of the fair, a whopping thirty-seven million dollars. The Streets of Paris offered adults mature entertainment, not seen outside the French capital, including peep shows displaying naked women.
Further down the road a barker called out, “Live models!” For a small fee one could take a class on how to sketch a naked woman. Ushered into a garret-like room that was purposefully stuffy and devoid of furniture, except wooden boxes for seats, one was handed charcoal and paper to sketch (or stare at) the nude women posing in front of them. Classes were surprisingly made up largely of women.
On the sidewalk, artists set canvas on easels. The Merry-Go- Round bar revolved in a slow circle. Vendors competed for every hard-spent dime and quarter. Fortune tellers and palm readers promised a better tomorrow.
There was a little something for nearly everyone. “Gigolos are provided to women who desire dining and dancing partners.” There was an eighty-mile-an-hour cyclone coaster. A gorilla town, a freak show. It was “Harvard, Broadway, and Coney Island rolled into one.”
There was so much to take it that it left the “brain whirling” at all the “undigested experiences,” and this was just a small section of the fair. There were compulsory visits to the Hall of Science, Washington’s false teeth and the world’s largest cow on display, a reconstruction of Fort Dearborn, the interior of Byrd’s polar expedition, and prehistoric monsters. There were states to explore. Florida had four acres of flowers; California grew giant redwood trees; Hollywood had prizefights, Leo the lion, and a replica of the Brown Derby Café. And if one wanted to travel to more exotic locals, there was Morocco and Belgium.
One could buy a postcard, or novelty item, or spend the day in the Seminole Indian village as the natives wrestled alligators, or gaze at the “lady with eight feet of red hair” and a “man who swallows practically everything,” even a “petrified man” at Ripley’s Odditorium.
One way to forget one’s troubles was to eyeball the abundance of flesh on display. A goodly portion of the crowd was coming to see Miss Sally Rand.
- ••
To think, just weeks earlier Sally had been an anonymous failed actress waving her fans in a sketchy nightclub. Now, at 10:30 every night, the master of ceremonies stood up to introduce Sally and her “trained fans” as big as “sky scrapers.”
Trumpets blared a welcome fanfare as a “lively red head” (perhaps the lights turned Sally auburn-haired) “pirouettes to the center of stage” as Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” and Chopin’s “Waltz in C Minor” played.
Finally proficient with her fans, Sally finished to thunderous applause. Some complained she was so engulfed by the feathers that only her lovely face was seen. They had come for the nudity, but the lighting was so dim she could have been wearing layers of clothing. She was not. She was nude except for a “strategically located patch” and liberal dusting of powder.
Sally had them lined up four deep for eleven solid weeks. In the first month alone, more than 70,000 would see her. It was beyond her imagination. “I never expected to make a living out of it,” she marveled truthfully about her dance.
The cost of the fair was so high that it was not expected to make a profit. Until Sally Rand.
Because thousands poured in expressly to see her fan dance, Sally would be credited with saving the fair. She would become the image of the fair. She would be the picture people would think of for generations to come when the Century of Progress was mentioned. There was no Sally without the fair, just as there was no fair without the fan dance. It was a role that would cement her fame.
And to think she had originally been turned down for a spot on the midway.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A feud between a man and his grandmother over his girlfriend staying at the grandmother’s home exploded into violence that ultimately led to him taking dozens of people hostage inside a Los Angeles supermarket, a relative said Sunday.
Investigators believe Gene Evin Atkins, 28, shot his grandmother several times and wounded his girlfriend at their South Los Angeles home on Saturday afternoon before he led police on a chase, while exchanging gunfire with officers, crashed into a pole outside the Trader Joe’s in the city’s Silver Lake section and ran inside.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

Melania Trump v Ivana: Donald’s model wives and their similarities
Melania Trump, 47, and Ivana Trump, 68, have both been married to, and had children with, the same man – Donald Trump, President of the United States.
While Ivana divorced Donald after fifteen years of marriage, Melania is still happily married to the President, who she married in 2005 in a lavish ceremony.
Ivana and Donald share three children, Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, all of whom are in their 30s, while Melania and Donald have one son, 11-year-old Barron.
Melania issued an official statement on October 11, dubbing Ivana “attention-seeking”.
The whole statement said: “Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and the President. She loves living in Washington, DC, and is honoured by her role as first lady of the United States.

Melania Trump and Ivana Trump were both models and grew up in communist countries
“She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books.
“There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex, this is unfortunately only attention-seeking and self-serving noise.”
This came as a response to Ivana, who said about her former-husband: “I (do not) really want to call him there because Melania is there and I don’t want to cause any kind of jealously or something like that because I’m basically first trump wife. OK? I’m first lady.”
However, despite their current spat, the two women have rather a lot in common.
Both women grew up in countries under communism. Ivana was raised in Czechoslovakia, leaving the country in 1973, before it was officially split into separate nations. Between 1948 and 1989 the country was ruled by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. She was even a part of the ski team for Czechoslovakia in the 1972 Winter Olympics.
During last year’s US election, Ivana said of Bernie Sanders: “(He) is a communist. I was born in a communist country, so I know when I see them or hear them.”
Melania also grew up under communism, in Slovenia. Her father, Viktor Knavs, was a member of the communist party, and signed up under former Yugoslavian dictator Marshal Tito.

Ivana Trump: Ivana, age 68, claimed she was the real first lady
Unsurprisingly, the two beautiful women both worked at fashion models in their early years.
Melania has had the more prolific modelling career of the two, having worked for fashion houses in Paris and Milan. She was scouted in 1995 by Donald Trump’s friend Metropolitan Models co-owner Paolo Zampolli, who encouraged her to move to the States, inadvertently setting her on the path to meet his friend, her future husband.
Melania modelled in Marie Claire, but her career really took off after she met Donald, after which she appeared in In Style Weddings, New York Magazine, Avenue, Philadelphia Style, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Ivana began modelling in Canada after she moved there in 1973. She modelled for fur companies, as well as Eaton’s department store and designer Auckie Sanft.

Both women are impressively multi-lingual. Ivana speaks five languages including English, Czech, and Russian.
Melania, in addition to her native language, Slovenian, speaks English, French, German, and Serbian.
The feud between the two women is alive and well recently.
Ivana said on the Wendy William’s Show today: “I tell you, I’m technically first lady Trump.
“I was first wife. I don’t know what is Melania’s problem. She just have to get over it. She is first lady of America, but I’m first lady Trump, excuse me, and have three grown-up kids.”
