That is the view of Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand. Mourinho was sacked by United this morning after a poor start to the season. His final game in charge was Sunday’s dispiriting 3-1 Premier League defeat at Liverpool, which left them 19 points behind the table-topping Reds. United crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round, finished second in their Champions League group and their current haul of 26 points from 17 games is their lowest ever at this stage in a Premier League season. Mourinho has also been embroiled in a series of clashes with his players including Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Eric Bailly. And Ferdinand feels the writing has been on the wall for Mourinho. “Right now is the right time,” Ferdinand wrote on Instagram. “Things aren’t improving & he has taken it as far as he can. I was one of his biggest advocates 2 & half years ago when he joined the club & felt he stabilised #mufc when we needed it. “You can’t ignore what Jose has achieved as a manager previously but I feel the time has come for fresh ideas at #MUFC! “People have been critical of my comments on TV of late but as a fan I am saying it as I see it. The club needs an injection of positivity & hopefully this decision will allow that to happen. I wish Jose all the best & wish him well for the future.” Ferdinand’s former team-mate Gary Neville believes Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the “outstanding candidate” to take over United. Neville told Sky Sports News: “I said last season that the next manager of Manchester United should be Mauricio Pochettino. “When I look at the values of Manchester United, you look at Mauricio Pochettino’s belief in young players at (previous club) Southampton and with Tottenham. “You look at his performance levels and the style of play, the way in which he carries himself at all times, publicly and in private. “I’ve been fortunate enough to spend two or three days at Tottenham’s training ground and to me he just feels like the most ideal candidate. “Manchester United have tried managers that have won European Cups, they’ve tried managers that have won multiple leagues, they’ve tried managers that have, to be fair, had that solid grounding in the Premier League. “They need someone who meets the three key principles of that football club: the promotion of youth, entertaining football and to win football matches. “People suggest he hasn’t won a trophy yet at Tottenham but with a net spend of minus £29million or something over the last four years, I’m not sure he could have done more. I do think he is the person who is the outstanding candidate.” And former Manchester City star Robinho has now revealed just how tough it was coming up against the ex-England international. Ferdinand joined the Red Devils from Leeds United in a deal worth £29m in July 2002, making him the world’s most expensive defender at the time. And he justified that fee over the next 12 seasons, helping United win six Premier League titles, the Champions League and seven other trophies. Ferdinand retired in 2015 following a year-long stint at QPR and is remembered as one of the top flight’s best ever centre-backs. Robinho says the 39-year-old is the toughest opponent he’s gone head-to-head with during his career. “Another thing: I wasn’t afraid of the physicality,” Robinho told the Daily Mail. “In Brazil, I didn’t have it easy growing up. People would kick you. “Italy was the hardest league to score goals in. Those guys just love defending. “But Rio Ferdinand is the hardest opponent I have faced = strong and quick. “He didn’t kick you. He was so classy. “I could do all my step-overs but he would watch the ball and tackle so immaculately. He only got the ball.” Ferdinand’s old club, United, will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face Newcastle on Saturday (5.30pm).

In the wake of trailers like Peter Rabbit and Sherlock Gnomes that dropped earlier today, 2oth Century Fox and Blue Sky Animation’s upcoming movie Ferdinand looks almost pleasant. Sure, there are the butt jokes that seem to be a requirement in all non-Disney or Pixar animated kids films these days, and yes, things get a bit too on the nose when the titular bull (voiced by John Cena) ends up in – you guessed it – a china shop, but all things considered, this could be a whole lot worse. Check out a new international Ferdinand trailer and a new clip below.
Ferdinand is about a bull who, despite his appearance, is just a light-hearted and cheerful creature with no intention to bother or hurt anyone. But when he freaks out after receiving an accidental bee sting, he’s wrangled up and taken to the equivalent of an animal prison, where he befriends the other “inmates” and orchestrates a breakout so he can get back to his beloved friend.
Here’s a clip showing sections of the inciting incident:
So…yeah. Nothing subtle about this one.
The film is based on a beloved 1936 children’s book that Adolf Hitler wanted to burn during his time in power, so don’t be surprised if you see any neo-Nazis protesting this adaptation when it comes out next month. Walt Disney adapted the book into a short that won an Oscar (watch that here), and this film stretches the story out to be feature length.
John Cena stars, transitioning from live-action comedies like Trainwreck, Sisters, and Daddy’s Home 2 into family friendly voiceover work. I’ve enjoyed his recent live-action output, though I’m not sure how much he’ll be able to work out his acting muscles in a project as broad as this one. In any case, at least a nice supporting cast is along for the ride: SNL star Kate McKinnon, Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez, Hamilton actor Daveed Diggs, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale, former Doctor Who David Tennant, Anthony Anderson, Jerrod Carmichael, and more.
FERDINAND tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover.
Ferdinand arrives in theaters on December 15, 2017.

That is the view of pundit and former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand.
Liverpool have been criticised of late of not having enough leaders on the pitch.
But Ferdinand says the final 20 minutes of the game at the King Power showed they do.
“In them situations you need leaders on the pitch to be able to deal with the emotions of the game,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
“You can get carried away, they score, we score and it becomes a bit of a rollercoaster, up and down game.
“I think you need people with experience, the leaders, the (Jordan) Hendersons of this world, the (James) Milners.
“He was a good substitution to come and try and sure it up and just stiffen things up.
“They were able to take the sting out of the game and the emotion out of the way Leicester were playing.”
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson were enough to see off Craig Shakespeare’s Leicester.
With the score at 3-2, Foxes striker Jamie Vardy saw his penalty crucially saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool are next in action away to Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Munro Leaf’s classic children’s book The Story of Ferdinand is receiving the animated movie treatment, and a new trailer has arrived to give us all a look at the film while announcing new cast members and a new song from Nick Jonas. How can you dare to resist this movie about a cartoon bull now, I ask? You can’t, don’t even try. The new Ferdinand trailer packed full of all this new information awaits you below.
Published in 1936, The Story of Ferdinand is the rather charming story of a bull who would rather sit and smell the flowers rather than butt heads with the other bulls. I can relate to this story because when I was younger, I too would rather sit and smell the flowers instead of going out to play with the other kids. And by sit and smell the flowers I mean sit in my dark bedroom and read Stephen King novels.
The classic tale gets a big Hollywood update with Ferdinand, an animated tale from director Carlos Saldanha, the co-director Ice Age. Large suit enthusiast and all-around nice guy John Cena voices the gentle bull, and he’s joined in the cast by Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Daveed Diggs, Gabriel Iglesias, Bobby Cannavale, David Tennant, Anthony Anderson, Flula Borg, Sally Phillips, Boris Kodjoe, Jerrod Carmichael, Raúl Esparza, Karla Martínez, and Miguel Ángel Silvestre.
And that’s not all! As this new trailer – which is more of a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the production than a proper narrative trailer – reveals, the film will feature a new song from talented musical boy Nick Jonas.
But wait, there’s more. Peyton Manning has also joined the cast as the voice of another bull named Guapo, who “acts like he’s brimming with confidence but under that brash exterior, he’s really a bundle of nerves! Thanks to Ferdinand, he learns to overcome his self-doubt.” This is the point where I tell you I have no idea who Peyton Manning is, but I believe he’s some sort of sports player. Remember, I grew up hiding in my room reading Stephen King books; I am not well-versed in the wild world of sports.

Rio Ferdinand, 38, began his football career playing for various youth teams before settling at West Ham United.
He progressed through the youth ranks and then made his professional Premier League debut in 1996.
His achievements in football attracted the attention of Leeds United, where he transferred in 2000 for a record-breaking fee of £18million.
Two years later, in 2002, he joined Manchester United for around £30 million, breaking the transfer fee record for a second time.
Rio has also played for England and more recently Queens Park Rangers, but in May 2015 he announced his retirement from professional football.
But the former footballer has not fallen out of the limelight.
Rio has regularly been appearing on TV as a BT Sport pundit, and he has now launched a new career as a professional boxer.
So how much money will he be taking into the ring with him?
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Rio’s net worth is estimated at $ 75million (£55.3million).
Over recent months Rio has been posting several social media videos showing him boxing and working with personal trainer Mel Deane.
Rio may now follow in the footsteps of former Birmingham City midfielder Curtis Woodhouse and former Crystal Palace forward Leon McKenzie, who became professional boxers after quitting football.
How does Rio’s net worth compare to other footballing stars such as Wayne Rooney?
Ferdinand made a shock announcement this morning that he would be partnering with Betfair in a challenge to make his professional debut as a boxer.
The former Manchester United defender wants to add success in the ring to his six Premier League titles but knows he is very much entering a whole new ball game.
“[Injury] is definitely something I’ve thought about but that’s part and parcel of sport,” Ferdinand said.
“In all sports there is elements of danger. Obviously, football isn’t that dangerous but you see footballers that have died on the pitch as well.
“I know what I’ve come into. I know it’s going to be a gruelling, tough one but it’s one I’m really looking forward to.
“It’s not just physically that I’m testing myself but mentally too. Can you wake up early in the morning when it’s windy and rainy and dark and go out on those runs? Can you take those punches in the training sessions?”
Ferdinand has not yet applied for a boxing licence from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), a requirement of any person wanting to fight professionally, and admitted he is still a long way from getting into the ring.
“I’m right at the beginning of trying to get through the training and getting myself a professional licence,” Ferdinand added.
“It wasn’t on my radar at all. Betfair approached us and spoke about this challenge.
“It was something that really excited me.
“I thought long and hard about it, the pros and cons but with the team that I’ve got around me I feel it’s a challenge worth taking on.”
Ferdinand will work with boxing trainer Richie Woodhall, 1988 Olympic bronze medallist in boxing and a 26-3 professional middleweight fighter before retiring in 2000, and his own personal trainer Mel Deane.
And Woodhall was quick to point out the size of the challenge facing the 38-year-old before he even gets to the point of the fighting.
“I want to get him to a stage where he will satisfy the BBBofC that he is capable of getting a licence and is good enough to box,” Woodhall said.
“That’s our next goal – it may take longer. From the one pad session that I did with him, I was quite pleased with him but let’s see how he responds to the training.
“That’s a hurdle we’ve got to get over.
“This isn’t going to be easy but he’s very eager and very keen. He’s probably the fittest 38-year-old that I’ve ever met.
“He’s in great condition and he lives a clean life. He’s got the ingredients to be a professional boxer and it’s entirely up to him.”
The former Manchester United and England defender will step into the ring – in partnership with Betfair in the ‘Defender to Contender’ project.
Ferdinand will speak to the media this afternoon at a press conference in east London but has announced his move this morning.
“Boxing is an amazing sport for the mind and the body,” he said.
“I have always had a passion for it and this challenge is the perfect opportunity to show people what’s possible.
“It’s a challenge I’m not taking lightly, clearly not everyone can become a professional boxer, but with the team of experts Betfair are putting together and the drive I have to succeed, anything is possible.”
Betfair are putting together a team of experts including former WBC super-middleweight Champion turned Team GB trainer, Richie Woodhall to help Ferdinand prepare for the change in sport.

Rio Ferdinand will step into the boxing after finishing his football career
“In all honesty, I think Rio can definitely box as a professional given time,” Woodhall said.
“He has natural power in his right hand, is extremely fit and is very enthusiastic to learn which is encouraging.
“Style wise he’s very raw and I’ll have to develop this which will take time but he has all the natural ingredients, height and reach advantages over boxers in his weight division and definitely has potential to win a title in the future.”
Ferdinand hung up his boots in 2015 after 81 England caps, six Premier League titles, and winning the Champions League in 2008.
And former team-mate Gary Neville delivered the first jab on social media.
Neville tweeted: “Hey @rioferdy5 when you’re boxing does Vidic come in and take the punches whilst you cover round the back with me?”

Rio Ferdinand has announced he will take to the boxing ring
Ferdinand follows Curtis Woodhouse, who became a professional boxer after playing football.
And the former Birmingham City midfielder admits he’s surprised by the move.
“When it came up on my Twitter feed that Rio Ferdinand was going to become a professional boxer I thought I’d been hacked,” he said. “It’s not something you read every day is it?
“I’ve been retired three years myself and one thing I missed – and he’s probably going through himself at the minute – is the competitiveness of being an athlete.
“Once that’s taken away from you it’s very, very difficult to replace it, so that’s probably what he’s chasing – to get that competitiveness back in his life.”
Ferdinand’s love of boxing is apparent on social media, with a picture on his Twitter profile showing him draped in the WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight title belts of his friend Anthony Joshua.
The Londoner was in attendance when Joshua defeated Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium in April and posed for pictures with the Olympic gold medallist.
There are also several videos on his Instagram page showing Ferdinand training with the gloves.
One from July features ‘Eye of the Tiger’ playing in the background with a caption that reads: “Boxing Fridays…. left right left right… boom! Don’t beat around the bush….”.
Ferdinand goes on to tag former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, asking “when ya get ur licence back?”.
A video from January also shows Ferdinand fire off a stream of punches into impact pads, interspersed with hyperbolic challenges in the direction of Joshua – who he first reminds of a shared holiday in Dubai – and decorated British boxers Tony Bellew and David Haye.
Former midfielder Woodhouse won the British light-welterweight title in 2012 after swapping football for the sweet science, while cricketer Andrew Flintoff won a one-off bout, of modest standard, against American Richard Dawson having been mentored Barry McGuigan.
Betsafe.com are giving odds of 40/1 that the ex-footballer will become a World Champion.
He has also been made him the slight underdog if he was to come face-to-face will Woodhouse.
Rio is priced at 2/1 to win and Curtis Woodhouse to win 1/2.
A similar outcome is also expected if he were to go toe-to-toe with unbeaten boxer, Freddie Flintoff, with Rio to win 3/2, Freddie to win 2/3 and a draw at 12/1.

Rio Ferdinand: LIVE updates after ex-footballer confirms move into boxing
10:50: Interesting stuff from boxing overlord Barry Hearn on whether Rio Ferdinand will get a license.
He told 5Live: “I would think it’s 50/50 depending on what the BBoC think of his skills. It’s going to be a lot of work to find out whether he’s qualified.
“No one is going to take the risk of a man getting badly damaged, boxing doesn’t need it. But as a reality show great stuff, go and enjoy yourself.”
And on what he thinks of Rio, Hearn added: “He’s being totally naive and he is totally underestimating boxing. But we live in a democracy where you have choice to what you want to do in the time of your life.”
10.10: Following the announcement this morning that Rio Ferdinand is to become a professional boxer, Betsafe.com is giving odds of 40/1 that the ex-footballer will become a World Champion.
Betsafe have also made him the slight underdog if he was to come face-to-face will fellow ex-footballer turned boxing professional, Curtis Woodhouse, in the ring, with Rio to win at 2/1 and Curtis Woodhouse to win 1/2.
A similar outcome is also expected if he were to go toe-to-toe with unbeaten boxer, Freddie Flintoff, with Rio to win 3/2, Freddie to win 2/3 and a draw at 12/1.
10:00: A quick reminder, if you missed it earlier. Rio will talk for the first time publicly at a press conference this afternoon.
It’s at 12.30pm in London where he will field questions about his shock move to boxing.
09:30: A reminder – this is a move in partnership with bookmakers Betfair.

Another agreed and said: “Ferdinand vs McGregor for the vacant Money Belt… make it happen.”

While a fellow fan added: “Rio Ferdinand to call out Conor McGregor… Heard it here first folks.”

Rio Ferdinand retired from football in May 2015
09:20: Has a shock move from football to boxing happened before? Well, yes.
Former Sheffield United midfielder Curtis Woodhouse won the British light-welterweight title in 2012 after swapping football for the sweet science.
Cricketer Andrew Flintoff won a one-off bout, of modest standard, against American Richard Dawson having been mentored Barry McGuigan.
Woodhouse believes that Ferdinand could be trying to rediscover his competitive edge if he takes to the ring.
“One thing that I missed – I’ve been retired three years myself – and one thing I missed and he’s probably going through himself at the minute is the competitiveness of being an athlete. That nervousness, that tension,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Once that’s taken away from you it’s very, very difficult to replace it, so that’s probably what he’s chasing to get that competitiveness back in his life.”

08:26: It’s confirmed that former England captain Rio Ferdinand will attempt to become a professional boxer with the ultimate aim of challenging for a title belt.
The 38-year-old, who retired from football in May 2015, is taking part in Betfair’s ‘Defender to Contender’ project and will be training with former WBC super-middleweight champion Richie Woodhall.
A Betfair press release said Ferdinand would be seeking to qualify for a British Boxing Board of Control licence before starting training and competing for a title belt.
Ferdinand said: “Boxing is an amazing sport for the mind and the body. I have always had a passion for it and this challenge is the perfect opportunity to show people what’s possible.
“It’s a challenge I’m not taking lightly – clearly not everyone can become a professional boxer – but with the team of experts Betfair are putting together and the drive I have to succeed, anything is possible.”
Manchester United legend Ferdinand is a keen boxing fanatic and will confirm his intentions to step into the ring on Tuesday.
That is according to the Daily Telegraph, who claim the former England centre-back is serious about his transition into the sport.
Ferdinand won six Premier League titles and the Champions League during his top-flight career at United.
The West Ham academy product retired in 2015 but has kept himself in good shape.
He will be looking to emulate another former footballer, Curtis Woodhouse, in making the move from the pitch to the ring.
He was at Wembley earlier this year for Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash with Wladimir Klitschko.
Ferdinand is no stranger of the boxing gym, having posted a video on instagram of himself doing pad work back in January.
The Telegraph claim a ‘major news announcement’ is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
