Just one episode of The Grand Tour’s fourth season has aired so far after the trio’s trip to Russia was cancelled amid the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

In episode one, Seamen, Jeremy, James and Richard race across the Mekong Delta in Vietnam using three different boats with mixed results.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the car-obsessed cohort to return to the streaming service, with the producer for the series Andy Wilman promising their adventure to Madagascar is coming soon.

In the meantime, some hilarious behind-the-scenes clips from the previous seasons have been keeping subscribers entertained.

Among them is some unearthed footage from the fifth episode of season two, which saw Jeremy Clarkson attempt some ambitious skids around an East Sussex farm in a 2006 Subaru.

In his short segment, titled Farmkhana, Jeremy gets behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

The car boasts a 2.5-litre turbocharged ‘Boxer’ four-cylinder engine that makes 276 horsepower and allows the vehicle to go from 0-62 miles per hour in an impressive 5.2 seconds.

Jeremy’s Subaru has a top speed of 158mph and makes quick work of a wooden fence after he attempts one of his more risky manoeuvres.

Jeremy then suggests: “From now on, why can’t we just shoot everything from the other side?”

To which patient director Phil Churchward responds: “I can’t just do that, the cars turning around all the time I can’t just shoot from one side it’ll look absolutely terrible.”

The Grand Tour’s host then gives the skid another try and promptly smashes into the reconstructed gate once again.

Despite Jeremy’s second-attempt mantra, ‘carefully, carefully’, the Subaru once again skids through the gate as director Phil comments ‘He’s done it again. What a massive t***’.

The crew then have to assemble the gate three times before Jeremy finally gets his daring stunt right for the cameras.

Farmkhana has since become an infamous segment in the annals of Jeremy Clarkson’s careless driving, and fans are debating to this day whether he actually ran over and killed the farm’s sheep (Amazon have confirmed he didn’t).

Jeremy Clarkson and co are off-screens for now but fans are eagerly awaiting for the Top Gear trio to return to Amazon Prime Video with a fresh round of car-based mayhem.

The Grand Tour seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

400+ caravan migrants detained after crossing border fence in Texas https://briefnews.eu/400-caravan-migrants-detained-after-crossing-border-fence-in-texas/ https://briefnews.eu/400-caravan-migrants-detained-after-crossing-border-fence-in-texas/#respond Tue, 04 Dec 2018 23:37:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/400-caravan-migrants-detained-after-crossing-border-fence-in-texas/ Hundreds of migrants from a Central American “caravan” turned themselves in to the US Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas. They hope to still get asylum in the US, due to to a court challenge to President Donald Trump’s new policy.

Groups of migrants, including families, showed up at an opening in the border fence between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez starting Monday morning, the Border Patrol said. By the end of the day, over 400 had turned themselves in, and were taken into custody.

The migrants were part of a caravan of people requesting asylum in the US, Border Patrol spokesman Joe Romero told El Paso’s KVIA-TV.

“They see what we have here, so they’re trying to do the same thing,” local resident Mary Juarez, who lives in the neighborhood next to the fence opening, told KVIA. “I understand where they’re coming from, but they need to do it the right way.”

Over 700 miles to the west, in Tijuana, dozens of caravan migrants climbed over the fence to be detained by Border Patrol on the California side. A Reuters reporter witnessed “two dozen” people climbing over the border fence and head for the border wall on top of the hill beyond. More followed after sunset.

At least two “caravans” started out from El Salvador and Honduras in late October, storming the gates on the border bridge between Guatemala and Mexico. After spending a week in Mexico City, the caravans continued their march north after the US midterm elections, riding on trucks and buses until some of them reached the border with California.

The Trump administration reacted by deploying over 5,000 troops on the border and declaring that only those who cross at legal points of entry would be even considered for asylum. A federal judge in California, however, blocked that policy change on November 19.

On Friday, Judge Jon Tigar refused to suspend his ruling, saying that the Department of Justice has not “rebutted the significant harms that will be suffered by asylum seekers with legitimate claims and the organizations that assist them,” according to AP.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon extended the deployment of troops along the border through the end of January 2019. It was previously set to expire on December 15.

Wall or fence? First completed section of Trump’s border wall unveiled in California (PHOTOS) https://briefnews.eu/wall-or-fence-first-completed-section-of-trumps-border-wall-unveiled-in-california-photos/ https://briefnews.eu/wall-or-fence-first-completed-section-of-trumps-border-wall-unveiled-in-california-photos/#respond Sat, 27 Oct 2018 10:26:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/wall-or-fence-first-completed-section-of-trumps-border-wall-unveiled-in-california-photos/

After a series of political battles, the first completed section of President Donald Trump’s border wall has been unveiled. But people are still arguing over whether it’s a wall or a fence.

The two-and-a-half-mile-long, 30-foot-tall barrier was built over eight months and unveiled by US Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen at a ceremony in Calexico, California on Friday. Nielsen pleaded for further government funding to complete the mammoth project, saying that “walls work.” She also refuted the oft-repeated claim that the barrier of steel bollards was actually just a fence.

Earlier this year, Trump unveiled eight border wall prototypes in California, some concrete and some metal structures like this one. “It’s different than a fence in that it also has technology. It’s a full wall system,” she said. “It’s a wall, this is what the president has asked us to do. It’s part of a system.”

The ceremony celebrated the replacement of shorter, older fencing that was installed in the 1990s. On Friday, a plaque was installed on the ‘wall’ to “commemorate the completion of the first section of President Trump’s border wall,” it read.
“Walls work, it’s not my opinion,” Nielsen said. “It’s not a tagline. It’s not a political statement. It’s a fact.”

“Looking at this, I would not attempt to climb it,” she continued. “This is the wall system we are requesting Congress to fund,” she later added.

However, not everyone is convinced by Neilsen’s comments and, once again, whether it is a wall or a fence was the source of furious debate on social media.

This year’s congressional spending bill allocated $ 1.6 billion for border security, $ 38 million of which was set aside for border wall construction. However, it specifically stated that it must be the same fencing used by previous administrations.

The construction funding “shall only be available for operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017… such as the currently deployed steel bollard designs,” reads the bill, which dates back to before Trump had even built his prototypes.

Israeli jets pound Gaza target after ‘border fence breach & arson attempt’ https://briefnews.eu/israeli-jets-pound-gaza-target-after-border-fence-breach-arson-attempt/ https://briefnews.eu/israeli-jets-pound-gaza-target-after-border-fence-breach-arson-attempt/#respond Sun, 25 Mar 2018 01:37:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/israeli-jets-pound-gaza-target-after-border-fence-breach-arson-attempt/

The Israel Defense Forces have struck a ‘Hamas target’ in the Gaza Strip, in retaliation for a border breach and an infiltration attempt by four Palestinians into Israel, the IDF has said.

According to an IDF statement, the Israeli Air Force targeted a military compound in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, after Palestinians armed with Molotov cocktails illegally crossed the separation wall and entered Israel.

“The IDF will continue to thwart all attempts to harm the State of Israel and will respond severely against those who wish to harm Israeli civilians,” the IDF tweeted, adding that “Hamas is held responsible for all aggression coming from the Gaza Strip.”

Earlier the IDF said that the security fence near Kibbutz Kissufim was “damaged” and four Palestinians carrying bottles “filled with flammable material” illegally crossed the border, trying to set fire to an engineering vehicle at around 5 pm local time on Saturday.

The ‘infiltrators’, however, fled back to Gaza when Israeli troops arrived at the scene, Haaretz reports, citing the military.

A video, purportedly showing the Palestinian infiltration, was released by Al-Jazeera. It shows a group of four masked men, cutting through a portion of the security fence, with the help of a fifth. The four men then quickly run up to the construction site next to the security barrier, where engineering equipment was sitting unattended. After a few moments, smoke is seen rising from the area.

“We will work determinedly and with a heavy hand against any damage to Israel’s security infrastructure and any attempt to enter Israel,” Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Yoav Mordechai said on Saturday, responding to the incident, noting that Hamas is “encouraging” the population to “disrupt order near the Israel-Gaza border.”

Secret Service catches 'Pikachu' trying to jump White House fence https://briefnews.eu/secret-service-catches-pikachu-trying-to-jump-white-house-fence/ https://briefnews.eu/secret-service-catches-pikachu-trying-to-jump-white-house-fence/#respond Thu, 19 Oct 2017 19:31:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/secret-service-catches-pikachu-trying-to-jump-white-house-fence/

A man dressed as the Pokemon character Pikachu was arrested after trying to get onto the White House grounds, the US Secret Service has said.

Curtis Combs, 36, of Somerset, Kentucky, jumped over the concrete barrier on the southern side of the president’s residence while wearing a Pikachu costume Tuesday morning. He was quickly arrested by uniformed Secret Service officers.

According to a police report released Wednesday night, Combs told officers that he was unarmed, then attempted to climb the fence. He is said to have ignored multiple orders to stop.

Combs, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful entry and has a court date set for November 9, told the Secret Service that he hoped to become famous by posting footage of the stunt on YouTube.

Unfortunately for the viral hit wannabe, the officers’ quick response meant he could not complete the recording. His backpack, which he dropped before jumping the barrier, was later investigated and cleared by bomb disposal officers.

Earlier this month, CNN claimed that Russia allegedly used the popular augmented-reality game Pokemon Go to inflame racial tensions among Americans during the 2016 US presidential election.

The report claimed that a Tumblr page “linked” to a supposed Russian hacking group promoted a contest encouraging people involved in the Black Lives Matter movement to play Pokemon Go at sites known for being scenes of police brutality.

A yellow rodent with a lightning-shaped tail, Pikachu is the most visible face of Pokemon, a Japanese franchise extending to movies and animation shows, comic books, video and trading-card games.

This is not the first time Pikachu has had a brush with White House security. In September 2014, a man named Jeffrey Grossman was stopped on the North Lawn after jumping the White House fence while wearing a Pokemon hat and holding a yellow Pikachu doll.

Grossman’s mother, Cathy, said her son had gone to an out-of-state hospital to admit himself for mental health treatment, but he was unable to do so based on his healthcare coverage. After asking why he could not get help, he was told that he should complain to the president.

Anti-prostitute fence for school costs Berlin €57k https://briefnews.eu/anti-prostitute-fence-for-school-costs-berlin-e57k/ https://briefnews.eu/anti-prostitute-fence-for-school-costs-berlin-e57k/#respond Wed, 23 Aug 2017 17:47:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/anti-prostitute-fence-for-school-costs-berlin-e57k/

A school in Berlin has completed construction of a 1.8-meter high, 125 meter-long fence designed to keep prostitutes away from school grounds. It cost the city €57,000.

Berlin’s construction boom is pushing street sex-workers into the side street, and in this case, onto the doorstep of the Französisches Gymnasium high school just off Kurfürstenstraße, the heart of the capital’s red light district.

It’s claimed prostitutes pick up clients in the area at all hours of the day and night and it’s causing problems for the high school. There are reports of used condoms and syringes being discarded on school grounds.

“There were always complaints about unscrupulous characters, including prostitutes, walking shamelessly and illegally into school grounds even during the day,” District School Inspector Carsten Spallek told local media back in April, when the fence was first proposed.

“The prostitutes eat, stand, drink and litter. It looks filthy in the late evening,” District Coordinator Michael Klinnert told Berliner Zeitung.

“The women have no stations to wash themselves or to get themselves ready. And they relieve themselves wherever they please,” saying that women are often dropped off by clients near the school and that others, including Herbert-Hoover-Schule and Diesterweg-Gymnasium, have taken similar measures.

Spallek believes the fence is money well spent, telling BZ that it will make the area a cleaner, safer place for students and teachers alike.

Prostitution has long been legal in Germany but last year parliament passed legislation that further regulated the practice, requiring all sex workers, including porn actors, webcam models, peepshow performers and lap dancers to register with authorities.

Bulgarian activists erect border fence to deter Turkish ‘election provocations’ https://briefnews.eu/bulgarian-activists-erect-border-fence-to-deter-turkish-election-provocations/ https://briefnews.eu/bulgarian-activists-erect-border-fence-to-deter-turkish-election-provocations/#respond Fri, 24 Mar 2017 19:08:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bulgarian-activists-erect-border-fence-to-deter-turkish-election-provocations/ Bulgarian volunteers have begun erecting a fence on the country’s border with Turkey without authorization from the government to “prevent Turkish provocations” during elections, RIA Novosti reports.

“The situation on the border is difficult and to prevent provocations from Turkey, our volunteers began erecting a four-meter fence. We have set up around 11 km from the town of Malko Tarnovo, construction is in progress,” Nikolay Ivanov, leader of the self-described activist group, told the news agency.

The activists say Turkey may attempt to bring ethnic Turks holding Bulgarian passports into the country on buses to vote in Sunday’s parliamentary elections, influencing the political landscape in the country, giving an advantage to pro-Turkey parties.

Some 400 people were said to take have part in the work. While officials have not approved the building of the fence, they did not block the initiative, RIA reports. The fence, made of metal bars and razor wire, is fully funded by the volunteers, Ivanov said.

Turks are the largest ethnic minority living in Bulgaria with the DOST party representing their interests. Current polls suggest that the party won’t reach the 4 percent threshold needed to enter parliament, however.

Meanwhile, some 100 followers of the Bulgarian nationalist coalition United Patriots (UP) blocked the checkpoint at the Kapitan Andreevo-Kapikule border crossing, carrying slogans that said: “Hands off Bulgaria” and “No to electoral tourism,” Reuters reported.

The UP says that more than 1,000 buses may attempt to take voters from Turkey to Bulgaria.

“It is not normal for a foreign country to interfere in the election of another sovereign state,” Krasimir Karakachanov, co-leader of the United Patriots, said, according to the news agency. “Turkey is now trying to provide voters for DOST, a pro-Turkish party, because it knows that the support for this party in Bulgaria is very low.”

Over 700,000 Muslims are currently based in Bulgaria, while at least 200,000 ethnic Turks living in Turkey are holders of Bulgarian passports, according to AFP.

On Friday, the DOST party released a statement to the international media, “sounding the alarm against the danger of the elections being compromised.” According to a report on Bulgaria’s BNR public radio, Turks willing to cast a vote in Sunday’s elections were promised free transport by Ankara.

On Thursday, Turkish President Erdogan blamed Bulgaria for clamping down on ethnic Turks living there and violating democratic principles.

In response, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said that “Bulgaria neither gives nor accepts lessons in democracy, especially from countries that do not respect the rule of law.”

The row is escalating while the relations between Turkey and a number of European countries have suffered a setback. Recently, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands banned Turkish officials from holding rallies in their cities ahead of the April constitutional referendum in Turkey.

Should Erdogan receive the required majority, the changes would significantly increase the powers of the Turkish president, with the leader significantly relying on expatriate voters.

Apart from that, Bulgarian security forces have recently deported two Turkish nationals and banned a third one from entering the country, saying they posed a threat to national security.

The UP is likely to come third in Sunday elections, with significantly increased support triggered by the inflow of Muslim migrants. The party is expected to play a major role in forming a new government.

The US Secret Service says one person is under arrest after climbing a fence and entering the south grounds of the White House, AP reports. The breach reportedly took place shortly before midnight on Friday while President Donald Trump was in residence.

A backpack being carried by the intruder, who CNN reports was a man, was searched but found to contain no hazardous materials.

The security agency reportedly said that the unnamed individual was arrested without further incident.

A subsequent search of the south and north grounds found “nothing of concern to security operations,” the Secret Service was quoted as saying by AP. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly was briefed on the incident.

GARA, Hungary (Reuters) – A daunting new barrier is beginning to loom over Hungary’s southern border, capable of delivering electric shocks to unwanted migrants and armed with heat sensors, cameras, and loudspeakers that blare in several languages.

The country was a main crossing point for hundreds of thousands of people trekking into Europe at the height of the migrant crisis in 2015. A hastily-erected first razorwire fence and tough new laws have cut arrivals to a trickle, but Budapest is not taking any chances.

“Attention, attention. I’m warning you that you are at the Hungarian border,” the loudspeakers say in English, Arabic and Farsi from the new barrier.

“If you damage the fence, cross illegally, or attempt to cross, it’s counted to be a crime in Hungary. I’m warning you to hold back from committing this crime. You can submit your asylum application at the transit zone.”

The “transit zones” are two border posts where a total of just 10 migrants per day are allowed in legally. Rights groups say they are wholly inadequate and, by creating such a tight bottleneck, may be illegal.

The new floodlit fence of wire reinforced with steel will give anyone who touches it an electric shock that well-informed sources say is mild. A police roadway will run between it and the old barrier. hungary wallREUTERS/Laszlo Balogh

‘Reassuring’

Only 10 km (six miles) of the new structure has been completed but officials say the remaining 140 km (85 miles) along the border with Serbia will be finished in just two months, built largely by 700 prison inmates.

Hungary’s populist Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called mass immigration from the Middle East and Africa an existential threat to the European way of life.

“The first fence was a quick solution from the government, but not a perfect one as human traffickers come equipped with tools to cut it,” said Laszlo Toroczkai, mayor of the border village of Asotthalom, who first called for borders to be sealed in 2014.

He called the new barrier “far more serious” and “absolutely reassuring”.

Border patrols prevent hundreds of crossings every day and catch migrants who make it into Hungary within the first few miles of the border, according to authorities.

The government has earmarked 38 billion forints (123 million euros) for the second fence. Orban’s chief of staff Janos Lazar said on Thursday the total cost of the border effort, including patrols and transit zones, was nearing 1 billion euros.
