Even in a magical world, elections don’t always turn out the way they should. Some of Legacies‘ finest learned this the hard way on Thursday when Alaric’s decision to form a student honor council — made up of one representative from each supernatural faction — turned the campus into a political war zone.

A well-dressed Lizzie and a very well-dressed MG (just as Quincy Fouse foretold!) were the undisputed frontrunners for their respective species, but settling on a leader proved slightly more challenging for the werewolves — not that anyone should be surprised by that. When Rafael’s alpha made it clear that he would use his position to have Landon removed from school, a battle for dominance ensued. The challenge paid off for Rafael, earning him a seat on the council, but the other two vacant spots went to Kaleb (!) and Josie (?!), eliciting a chorus of gasps from the other students. And from me, to be honest.

Hope also strong-armed her way into the council — to be fair, she is the only one of her kind — presumably to ensure that Landon is well taken care of, but she surprised everyone at the meeting with her first motion: “Landon has to go.” Kaleb agreed (duh) and Rafael opposed (duuuh), leaving the decision in Josie’s hands. She ultimately decided that it was in everyone’s best interest for Landon to keep his distance, sending Rafael into a blind rage… and into Lizzie’s equally enraged arms. (Say, didn’t Rafael kiss Josie last week? I don’t suppose that could lead to any more tension between the sisters.)

Elsewhere, Alaric and Dorian were busy dealing with this week’s mystery monster: a living spirit of a tree, also known as a dryad. (No big.) This particular dryad — the show’s first talking monster — was desperate to be reunited with her lover, a vampire named Oliver. (Confession: Before I heard “vampire,” I thought she might have been talking about Jackson’s werewolf buddy Oliver from The Originals.) And while finding the guy proved simple enough, the plan hit a new snag when Oliver claimed to have no memory of his leafy lady. Hell, the guy was married.

As if having her heart broken wasn’t enough, the poor dryad — under the influence of an unknown entity — attacked Alaric and Dorian, forcing them to take her out. Fortunately, she was able to reveal a key piece of the puzzle before going to plant heaven: a voice in her head was commanding her to take the knife to a “dark pit beneath the earth” known as Malivore. In doing so, she would know “peace and finally be free.” (This dryad clearly hasn’t watched any of the other shows in this franchise, or she’d know what “peace” really means.)

The dryad’s tale also shed some light on the show’s ongoing Landon mystery. After giving him a long-awaited goodbye kiss, Hope put Landon on a bus to New Orleans, where a “family friend” was waiting to help him find his birth mother. (Vincent? Declan? I must know!) Even more intriguing: In the one photo Landon has of his mother, she’s wearing the Malivore symbol around her neck.

Also worth discussing…

* I need to know who performs the cover of Linkin Park’s “In the End” that played at the beginning of the episode. Right now.

* Did you catch that Bonnie Bennett shoutout? When Dorian brought Oliver to the dryad, he said, “Our pal Bonnie did a witch thing on the rings. Some sort of combo summoning spell and astral projection.” Sure, I’d love to see Kat Graham back in Mystic Falls, but I’ll settle for a casual mention for now.

* I didn’t think anything could be sadder than Josie telling Hope that Hayley was pretty… until Alaric poured his heart out to the dryad. So you can imagine my delight upon seeing Jodi Lyn O’Keefe pop up in the promo for next week’s episode as a freaking zombie. This show is too good to us.

* Speaking of familiar faces, who’s the “family friend” in New Orleans?!

Did you dig this week’s info-heavy episode of Legacies? Any new theories about Landon? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.

How Many Episodes of Your Fave Shows Were Ordered for Next Season? https://briefnews.eu/how-many-episodes-of-your-fave-shows-were-ordered-for-next-season/ https://briefnews.eu/how-many-episodes-of-your-fave-shows-were-ordered-for-next-season/#respond Wed, 18 Jul 2018 15:44:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/how-many-episodes-of-your-fave-shows-were-ordered-for-next-season/

News flash: Size does matter — at least when it comes to TV-show renewals. Back in the day, they were pretty much created equal — in other words, most series getting the go-ahead for an additional season netted a standard full-season, 22-episode order. But, with cable and streaming luring big-name talent in front of and behind the camera with the promise of less intensive work schedules — and thereby stressing the importance of quality over quantity — the broadcast nets have been forced to throw out the episode-order rulebook and determine a series’ season length on a case-by-base basis, accounting for a number variables, among them actor contracts, budget limitations, scheduling needs, etc. There is no “usual” anymore.

That being the case, we’ve crunched the numbers and compiled this handy cheat sheet that offers up the current episode orders for nearly two dozen returning broadcast series for the upcoming 2018-19 TV season. Please note that this is a partial list. Many shows at the Big 5 — ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and The CW — are still nailing down the exact lengths of their new seasons. So you’ll want to bookmark the above gallery — click here for direct access — and refresh often for updates.

Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Is THIS I’m A Celebrity fave first to sign up for next year? https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-is-this-im-a-celebrity-fave-first-to-sign-up-for-next-year/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-is-this-im-a-celebrity-fave-first-to-sign-up-for-next-year/#respond Sat, 16 Dec 2017 06:41:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2017-is-this-im-a-celebrity-fave-first-to-sign-up-for-next-year/

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’s Joel Dommett has hinted he could be about to appear in the BBC’s flagship show, as it would make someone close to him very happy.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the comedian admitted his mother is desperate for him to take to the dance floor in front of millions.

When asked if he would do any other reality shows after being named the runner up on ITV’s jungle-based hit last year, the 32-year-old revealed all.

“I want a break,” Joel commented. “I think you can become one of those people that jump from show to show. I don’t want to be one of those, I’m happy doing comedy right now.”

However, the Extra Camp presenter continued: “I wouldn’t rule it out for the future. I’ve achieved so much, I’m so happy with all the things I’ve done but I’d never make my mum proud unless I do Strictly.

“I could be given an award by Barack Obama and she’d be like, ‘But, you haven’t done Strictly!’”

Joel went on to say an appearance could soon be on the cards, adding: “Everyone was talking to me about doing it this year, but I was on tour.

“You never know… I can’t dance, so I want to learn.”

Meanwhile, Joe McFadden is currently leading charge and is bookmakers’ favourite to triumph with odds of 4/6.

But it is expected to be one of the closest finals to date with Debbie McGee (9/4), Alexandra Burke (6/1) and Gemma Atkinson (10/1) not far behind, according to William Hill.

The finale of Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One.

Sarah Michelle Gellar On Food, Family, And Her All-Time Fave “Buffy” Episodes https://briefnews.eu/sarah-michelle-gellar-on-food-family-and-her-all-time-fave-buffy-episodes/ https://briefnews.eu/sarah-michelle-gellar-on-food-family-and-her-all-time-fave-buffy-episodes/#respond Sun, 05 Nov 2017 15:24:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sarah-michelle-gellar-on-food-family-and-her-all-time-fave-buffy-episodes/

You may remember her best as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but Sarah Michelle Gellar has a ton going on these days.

She’s a mom, cookbook author, self-proclaimed foodie, and the cofounder of Foodstirs. We caught up with her recently to talk about her passion for food, how she and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. are raising their kids — and her all-time favorite Buffy episodes.

1. What’s the first meal a home cook should master?

Something that they love. It’s not necessarily about what’s easiest. It’s about what you have passion for — because that’ll make you work harder.

2. What was the first thing you learned how to cook?

Salmon. My husband taught me how to make it over the phone. You just add sake (or whatever you want to braise it in), and cook it all in tinfoil.

3. How did your children change the way you cook and the way you eat?

I always cared about what I put in my body, but now that I’m responsible for children, I’m thinking in a much more long-term way. What is the food doing to their body? How is it helping them grow? What is it doing to the land we live on? I have a greater appreciation for things like that now, and I want to instill that in them.

4. Do you have tips for parents who are raising picky eaters?

I don’t believe in catering to children. You create a picky eater. Kids don’t know. We have a rule in our house: You have to try something 10 times and then two times more before you decide if you don’t like it. At the end of the day, it all comes down to creating an environment, where everyone sits at the table and eats the same thing. You’re creating memories and setting them up to try anything — and it really creates better eaters.

5. What’s your favorite thing to cook with your children?

Pizza. Freddie does the cooking, and I do the baking — but we argue that pizza covers both. I love how creative my children get with the pizzas. They’ll be like, “I’m gonna make a heart pizza,” or “I’m gonna put broccoli on it.” I just love the ingenuity that comes with it.

6. Your husband is also a big foodie and the author of a cookbook. What’s the best thing he’s ever cooked for you?

Oh my goodness, I could go down the list. It changes from time to time. My daughter’s favorite is his linguine with clam sauce. My favorite used to be this pasta he did with radicchio and pancetta. And his Brussels sprouts are on point.

7. What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without?

I love a cherry pitter, or an olive pitter. It’s not one that I couldn’t live without — but more so one that I’m obsessed with. It’s one of those things you really don’t need in life, and then you start using one and you’re like, “This is the greatest thing i’ve ever had.”

8. What ingredients do you use most in your cooking?

Freddie taught me to not be afraid of salt, because you really do need it to bring out flavor. Garlic is another one that I love. And Freddie also really introduced me to chile peppers, like Hatch chile peppers — that was something that I didn’t really know.

9. What do you usually have for breakfast?

We’re big on breakfast and try really hard to do a big breakfast at home. Right now, I make these pancake “donuts.” Sometimes, it’s hard to make fresh pancakes in the mornings because you’re getting them dressed and you have to watch the griddle. So I just get a donut mold, pour the pancake batter in, put the timer on, and then I have 15 minutes to go brush their teeth, get them dressed, come downstairs, and pull the donuts out of the oven. Then, I take fresh yogurt (a fun flavor like pumpkin for the holidays), and I drizzle it on top like a frosting. They think they’re having donuts for breakfast!

10. Quick-fire! Are you more coffee or tea?

I’m all coffee.

11. How do you take it?

Any which way I can get it.

12. What’s your go-to alcoholic drink?

Sake. I love good sake.

13. Any good hangover cure?

Yeah, don’t drink at my age. Remember, I’m not 22.

14. Favorite pizza topping?

Mushrooms and onions.

15. How do you unwind at the end of the day?

Books. That’s where I lose myself. I can get lost in books and all of the sudden it’s 2 in the morning and i’m like, “Oh my god, I have to go to bed but I want to know how it ends.”

16. Any recent favorites?

I’m reading The Pretty Girls — it’s really good. Tonight, no matter how late I get back, I will be finishing it.

17. Last show you binge-watched?

Big Little Lies.

18. What’s your all-time favorite Buffy episode?

I would say it’s a combination of “Hush,” “The Prom,” and “The Body.” Those are my favorites.

Blind Item: Drama Series Poised to Whack Fan Fave — In Season Premiere https://briefnews.eu/blind-item-drama-series-poised-to-whack-fan-fave-in-season-premiere/ https://briefnews.eu/blind-item-drama-series-poised-to-whack-fan-fave-in-season-premiere/#respond Fri, 14 Jul 2017 17:22:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/blind-item-drama-series-poised-to-whack-fan-fave-in-season-premiere/

The producers of a popular series are looking to take a page from Annalise Keating’s killer curriculum.

Rumor has it that an hour-long drama series on one of the Big 5 broadcast networks is poised to kill off one of its most popular characters (an original series regular), while tacking on a time-tripping twist straight out of How to Get Away With Murder.

According to sources, if the storyline is approved by The Powers That Be at the network, the character in question would be murdered in the show’s forthcoming season premiere, at which point the action would jump back two months. Subsequent episodes would continue to chronicle the eight weeks leading up to [redacted]’s death all while dropping clues about the party — or parties? — potentially responsible for the shocking crime.

Oh, and to assist you in cracking this particular Blind Item, we went ahead and narrowed the field to nine shows. Yep, the series in question is included in the gallery to the right (click here for direct access). You’re welcome!

“I was very surprised to find out Matthew McConaughy was in an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. I had to go back and re-watch the episode (it’s on the DVD set). It’s so weird to see, yet he does a great job in such a sad story. I remembered the story, but when I first saw it I clearly had no idea that he would become such a famous renowned actor.” —laurelc3

SYDNEY Uni Flames have secured the signature of a club favourite for 2017/18, with Katie Rae Ebzery returning next season.

Ebzery, who was the club’s sole Olympian in 2016, spent the past campaign in Russia with Dynamo Moscow, but will return to help lead the Flames’ tilt at a championship repeat.

She played in the Russian domestic league and the Eastern European Women’s Basketball League.

With the Flames losing Leilani Mitchell from last season’s back-court, coach Cheryl Chambers says Ebzery’s presence would add some much-needed experience.

“I’m ecstatic to have Katie return to our team,” Chambers said.

“Her experience, leadership, score power and basketball IQ will be a fantastic addition.”

Ebzery featured in all 11 of Dynamo Moscow’s EEWBL games, averaging 7.6 points and 3.7 assists and was one of just two players to play all 28 of the team’s games in the Russian league.

But she is happy to be heading back home to reconnect with the club where she’s played 138 games across six seasons.

The Opals guard said the WNBL was getting stronger as more elite players came to the league.

“I am very excited to be back at home with the Flames. It will be great to be back in a super strong WNBL this year,” Ebzery said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Cheryl Chambers and the girls toward backing up the

successful season of last year.”

The addition of Ebzery to the Flames’ roster brings yet another familiar face to the team, with the remainder of the players already signed having been part of the Flames’ championship side last season.

Jennifer Morrison is excited to see Once Upon a Time‘s Henry suddenly all grown up, even though she won’t have much opportunity to hang with him, no longer being a series regular as the ABC drama enters Season 7.

“This is part of the creative process. Things change and evolve,” the original cast member says of the show’s new “chapter,” which was teased at the close of the Season 6 finale on Sunday night. “The idea of Henry in the future opens up so many possibilities for the storytelling, so I think people should have faith in [series creators] Eddy [Kitsis] and Adam [Horowitz]. They do such amazing jobs at reinventing the show and finding ways to keep it fresh and interesting.”

Here is what else that Morrison, who will appear in one Season 7 episode (the premiere), had to say in Part 2 of her Once Upon a Time exit interview:

TVLINE | You obviously worked a lot over the years with Colin [O’Donoghue, as Hook]. What was his reaction to your decision to leave, what kind of support did you get?
Colin and I are good friends and will always be good friends. He knows me like a family member, so he was sad, because obviously we work well together and we enjoy our time on set together. But the other side of that is he cares about me as a person and he knew it was the right thing for my life. He was very supportive about that.

TVLINE | Looking back, do you have any favorite seasons or storylines?
I loved the Dark Swan storyline, the idea of being able to stretch Emma in different ways and explore the darker side of her. And I also love that ultimately they still stayed true to the Savior that was within her. That she is who she is, and you can’t take away that fate. That no matter what she went through and no matter how far she pushed the limits, ultimately within her was this fate as the Savior. I thought they did an amazing job of giving that character a chance to spread her wings and be completely different in certain ways but also keep her true to the core of her being. Her intentions and her desires were actually well-intended, even though she was going about it in maybe not the most productive way. [Laughs]

I have loved so many of the storylines over the years. I loved the Back to the Future stuff that I did with Colin [in the Season 3 finale]. Once Upon Time Back FutureI loved the musical episode [on May 7]; I was so happy that I got to be a part of that and I felt as if it was a very beautiful wrap-up of who Emma has become. It was a chance to really see her go from that ugly duckling to a swan, in that song she has [“Emma’s Theme”] in the mayor’s office. It was also a chance to see her completely unguarded and absolutely in love and vulnerable with Hook at the wedding. She was full of joy and not worrying about the next monster or crisis, just absolutely deciding to be in the moment and alive and free and happy. And she was willing to do that knowing that she’s about to face something really difficult. She had the courage to say, “You know what? It’s OK to be in the moment. We’re going to find a way through and it’s going to be OK.” To see her in that place after how far she has come…. It’s hard to imagine, when you watch her in the pilot, being someone who could grow to that place. I love that I got to take her on such an incredible journey.

TVLINE | How will you be keeping busy this summer, to start?
My God. [Laughs] I thought I was going to give myself some time, and that turned into me being busier than ever — which has been wonderful! I have been very creatively satisfied, so it’s been great. Right as I was wrapping Season 6, I went to New Orleans to do a small part in a movie called Assassination Nation, which a dear friend of mine [Sam Levinson] is directing but also I just think is a really special piece; I was excited to be a part of it, even in a very small way.Morrison Perry I went back to Louisiana to do the film Back Roads, which Alex Pettyfer is starring in and is his directorial debut. He’s doing an incredible job, I truly believe in him as a director.

Right now, I’m in New York in rehearsals for the Off-Broadway play The End of Longing, which Matthew [Perry] wrote and is starring in. I’m playing opposite him, and we are having so much fun. We’re all exhausted with rehearsals but loving it. And then, Sun Dogs is going to premiere at a signficant festival in the next few months. And beyond all that, I’m going through a lot of material to find what will be my second feature as a director. And I have some projects I’m developing as a producer. So, I’m developing some things and doing some acting, just waiting to see what falls into place first after the play.
