Vanessa, 59, joined Phillip Schofield, 58, and Holly Willoughby, 40, on Tuesday’s edition of This Morning as the vaccination row in the EU continues. Several countries have withdrawn their use of the Oxford AstraZeneca jab and it is thought more than 7.8 millions unused vials are sitting on shelves currently. The resident Agony Aunt of the ITV programme vented her fury with EU leaders and questioned why they were suspending the vaccine if there is no scientific evidence to support it. The disturbance into the EU vaccination programme arose after clots were discovered in a handful of recipients. Many have tried to dampen the worry, with the European Medicines Agency stating that the number of blood clots reported is no different to those seen in the general population. Sharing her opinion, the presenter said: “Frankly, it’s absolutely baffling and that is the word that is being used. spoke to a professor of virology this morning on my radio show and he said they are puzzled, baffled and confused. “There is no link at all that is established between blood clots and the Astrazeneca vaccine. None whatsoever and in fact, if no one had been vaccinated at all, this number below 40 would be completely normal. “Therefore, what is the explanation? And I’m afraid what politicians are doing, if that’s what they’re doing, is playing fast and loose with the lives of their residents and the people they should care most in the world about,” Vanessa added. READ MORE: Phillip Schofield RAGES at EU ‘How dangerous is this knee-jerk?’ “One professor in France said today that every time you delay by a day, you delay 100,000 vaccinations by a day for people over the age of 50 and 15 people will lose their lives to Covid,” the presenter continued. “So add that up throughout Europe and you have a potential tragedy playing out.” “It really is hideous and frankly the thing I’m worried about is people in this country who may take misinformation from this.” “And they may, if they’re already nervous, decide to hesitate or not have their vaccination and that would be a tragedy for them and their families. “Let’s hope that everyone takes all of this with the same pinch of salt that the scientific establishment is taking it with,” the broadcaster concluded. Andrew Neil, 71, also offered his take on the matter, explaining: “This has the makings of a European tragedy. “The British medical authorities say the Astrazeneca is fine to use, the European medical authorities say it’s fine to use, the World Health Organisation says it’s fine to use. “The number of blood clots, the ratio is no higher than those who have had the Astrazeneca than with the rest of the population and it’s actually a little bit lower than those who have had the Pfizer vaccine. “So the science doesn’t support what they’re saying. What we’re seeing here is politics. “The problem is, as you say, Europe is on the cusp of a third wave. Italy is already in the throes of a third wave, the situation in Spain is dire.” DON’T MISS… The broadcaster continued: “In France, the President is under huge fire to introduce a third lockdown – we need more vaccines in Europe and these politicians are getting in the way and could be responsible for a lot of deaths.” Countries that have already stopped rolling out the Oxford AstraZeneca include Germany, France, Italy and Spain. They have made clear that it is only for precautionary measures and with some sort of restrictions still imposed in these countries, it is thought this will delay any further easing of the rules. However, not all EU states have suspended the use of the jab as Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic and Ukraine are continuing with their programme. European Medicines Agency (EMA) head Emer Cooke has said: “We know that many thousands of people develop blood clots in the EU so what we want is to establish whether these events are caused by the vaccine or by other causes. “While the investigation is ongoing, currently, we are still firmly convinced that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine in preventing Covid-19, with its associated risks of hospitalisation and death, outweigh the risks.” The use of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine continues in the UK, with the Government defending its inclusion in vaccinating the population. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 55, has said: “We’ve been clear that it’s both safe and effective, and when people are asked to come forward and take it, they should do so in confidence.” This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV. Taking to Twitter, one fan said: “#TheDrowning Well this is all very silly.” “This ending is a bit disappointing I can’t lie #TheDrowning,” added a second, while a third echoed: “The ending is garbage, I’m just enjoying the scenery #TheDrowning.” “Wow, 4 hours wasted [face palm emoji] #TheDrowning,” vented a fourth viewer, with a fifth weighing in: “#TheDrowning it’s become a farce.” There was some support, however, as another added to the debate: “Well there were very few predictions I got right in this one until the last one. Great plot #TheDrowning.” The Drowning is available to stream on My5 now. With PSG 2-1 up, TV cameras showed the French giants trying to keep possession before Presnel Kimpembe played a pass forward to Neymar. But the Brazilian superstar wasn’t looking. He was instead trying to get the crowd to crank up the volume, throwing both hands in the air as play went on behind him. The ball then rolled past Neymar, who stopped his pleas to supporters and instead turned his back on play again in disbelief. Not that it mattered as Liverpool endured horrible travel sickness as they went down to defeat. Still, the 2-1 loss – their third away defeat in the Champions League this season – did not kill off their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition. They now have to win 1-0 or by two clear goals when they take on Napoli at Anfield on December 11. The Reds were undone by an early blitz from superstar front three Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, with the Brazilian scoring a fine counter-attacking goal after full-back Juan Bernat had opened the scoring. A penalty just before half-time from James Milner could not drag Liverpool back into the game, but a decent second-half display will give them hope they can still progress. Captain Jordan Henderson said: “We’re disappointed. We feel we’re good enough to come here and win. It wasn’t our night but we tried to keep pushing for the equaliser. We kept going and kept fighting and now we just need to keep our hopes up with a win at Anfield. “We just need to get through that game against Napoli now. It’s still in our hands.” Marco Verratti was lucky to escape a red card for a shocking challenge on Joe Gomez. Henderson said: “It looked quite high but I’m not really sure. In the moment it is fast and that is football. I’m sure we made a few as well.” While angry Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticised the refereeing of Polish official Szymon Marciniak for making his side look like “butchers”, The Reds boss was unhappy with the hosts’ play-acting and highlighted Neymar’s role as the Ligue 1 club consigned Liverpool to a third away defeat in Group C. “The number of interruptions in that game was just not cool,” said the German. “Two times in a row we won the Fair Play award in England and tonight we look like butchers after the yellow cards we had. “It was clever of PSG, especially Neymar, but a lot of other players went down like it was really something serious and we were not that calm any more. “We were aggressive, and unfortunately negative aggression doesn’t help in football, we got rather frustrated and angry. “But we have to deal with it, that’s our job. If the ref lets that happen then we have to deal with it.”

The present does not own the monopoly on ugly scenes in Congress; the McCarthy interviews are on tape, after all. Nor do either of the parties – from Kenneth Starr’s ultimately futile humiliation of Bill Clinton, to their intransigence during Obama’s two terms, Republicans largely set the tone for the partisanship that reigns today.
But make no mistake about it: in the age of a hysterical and agenda-driven news media, and a social media that amplifies its worst aspects, the Kavanaugh and Ford testimonies marked a new low. And it is the Democrats that have guided the process into a high-stakes wrestling match in a toxic swamp.
Disagreeing with Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination on ideological grounds, and questioning his record and temperament are fine, even if it is to whip up your base before the upcoming mid-terms. This what the confirmation hearings were for (minus the choreographed interruptions from the gallery).
But to pull out a last-minute 36-year-old sexual abuse accusation that you have sat on for weeks, as Dianne Feinstein did, is a dirty trick, her protestations to senators on Thursday that she didn’t time the release of Ford’s testimony, or leak her name (who did then? This person acting against the wishes of a self-described abuse victim must surely be found and punished) notwithstanding. As are the systematic stalling tactics in full evidence at the hearing – the condition-setting for the hearings, the alleged flying fears that fell apart after two questions, the “What about Mark Judge, when can we speak to him?” and the demands for an additional FBI inquiry, during which yet more allegations are sure to come out, as Michael Avenatti tap-dances around his office in anticipation. Could a single senator in the room from either party disagree, hand-on-Bible, that the Democrats are hoping to drag out the process to give themselves a better chance?
To do this, the party was prepared to turn a political attack into a personal one, and personal trauma into a political weapon. Whatever traction #MeToo had as a non-partisan campaign that concerns all women is now in question. “Believe women” has turned from an expression of sympathy to reticent victims to a battering ram for short-term political gain, deployed while faux-innocently asking “Why would any woman lie?” in the one case where the reasons to do so are glaringly obvious.
I love the support I'm seeing for Dr. Ford but I am truly shocked that there are people, particularly women, who don't believe her testimony. She is credible! She has NOTHING to gain by lying! Kavanaugh has EVERYTHING to lose so of course he would lie. We MUST stand with victims! pic.twitter.com/l6SyIudiOK

The Republicans’ scurrying to confirm their candidate is similarly blatant and unseemly. They called the accuser to speak, but how many of them would have changed their mind whatever she said? Five? Three? No one? Staging this hearing for them was as much of a charade about the optics. So polite on Thursday, by Friday Lindsey Graham was calling the accusations “garbage.”
Yet this is not what made Thursday’s proceedings tragic. Politicians in that room play their power games and have known each other for decades – but here, real people were involved. For all the disingenuous pretense that this was just a job interview (most employers don’t suddenly ask jobseekers to prove they are not a rapist to get to the next round), their entire lives were at stake over how they would come across in a single afternoon.
Christine Blasey Ford’s account might be fiction or her own truth, but here was a woman who was evidently genuinely traumatized, and having to relive the moment. And if she is telling the facts as they did happen, and she was assaulted by a drunk, violent Brett Kavanaugh, this is hardly the format that best serves to bring her justice. She said she was no pawn, but she was surrounded by politically-motivated lawyers, participating in some improvised talk show format in which smarmy praise from Democrats who regard her exactly as that chess piece, alternated with fragmented lawyerly questioning from a female prosecutor (once again all optics) looking for a “gotcha!” moment in frustrating five-minute chunks. She had been used.
Some observers said she “won” because she looked credible. The entire modern law was invented and allowed to flourish in America, that most legalistic of states, so that people wouldn’t be judged on their “credibility.” It’s fine that she turned out to be an educated, well-spoken woman, but what if she had turned out a little twitchy, or stuttered? Would that have meant that she wasn’t raped? After all, many viewers questioned Ford’s patchy memory, the number of times she looked down at her notes, or even her high-pitched voice.
Same goes for Brett Kavanaugh: Some saw a man under extreme pressure in indignant tears as he strove to save his name against allegations so vague they couldn’t even be substantively refuted. Yet his opponents online said his passion made it easy to imagine how angry he would have got before raping Ford (“and this is him sober”), while his tears – a quality supposedly demanded from modern men – merely made him too unbalanced to be a judge. Many just posted photos of unflattering facial expressions and the blotches on his face.
Just got home from work, turned on C-SPAN to watch Kavanaugh’s “testimony.” So far he has done nothing but yell at the Senators, fight back tears over his weightlifting as a teen, and shouted about a dozen times, “I LIKE BEER!” He is so UNHINGED he should never serve on ANY court

Whether he’s guilty or not, Kavanaugh’s aggressive and unstable performance today under duress disqualifies him in my mind from being nominated to a lifetime appointment in the highest court in our country.

In any case, even if Ford provided specific details of her ordeal, this wouldn’t have changed anything. Kavanaugh would still have turned around and denied it. Thursday’s hearing was not just inadequate as a court, with its burden of proof, witnesses, evidence, judges and jury – it wasn’t even a tribunal attempting to establish the truth. Instead, it was designed to have the opposite effect, with all sides smearing each other for political gain entirely on the basis of he said/she said accounts.
“This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics,” said Graham as the hearing wrapped up. But even if he was right, he was not the man to say it. Both over the longer term and in the past few weeks, it is him and the other senators who have allowed this human baiting show to take place.
And a cruelty circus there was: the tarred human targets drew to themselves millions of vitriolic opinions, self-righteous statements, and outright lies. Thousands of women told stories of their own sexual abuse (though there is a question if one man, not proven guilty, should be punished for another man’s crime, or even for the cause of equality before the law), abortion advocates reminded viewers that Roe v. Wade was in danger, the Washington Post wrote dissections of various slang terms in Kavanaugh’s yearbook.
On the other side, Republicans spoke of vast left-wing conspiracies – a subject the prospective Supreme Court justice himself raised – and reposted talking points from the questioning and fake memes casting doubts on Ford’s sexual morals – which somewhat misses the point, as well as being slander.
If there was nuance, it got drowned under the majority of the comments that went along strict party lines. Perhaps in an existential battle for the future of America’s legal system the ends justify the means and no one cares what happens. More chilling than all this was the tone of callous disregard for the people involved: even if someone believes that a man or woman may only have a ten percent chance of being innocent, shouldn’t they be treated with humanity, particularly in a murky situation like this? Neither Kavanaugh nor Ford are monsters, and even if they were, what of the compassion and tolerance on which much of America prides itself?
Instead, there were two sacrificial lambs in a kangaroo court among lying, plotting, openly amoral politicians, in a cacophony of raw noise.
This is how the world saw the US on Thursday.
Scores of countries across the world live according to constitutions modeled on the US Bill or Rights, political systems fashioned after that of the US, legal practices that treat America as the gold standard. American leaders are icons of world history, and countries hang on to their every word, and many attempt to emulate and follow them (yes, even Trump).
The US revels in this role, and just this week its leader spoke of its “unique values” and how the country made the world better and stood up for it. These scenes are not going to persuade Saudi Arabia that democracy is efficient. It excites not awe but laughter within the walls of the Kremlin.
The US has two choices: to fight as best it can to preserve the remaining value of its institutions – Congress, the supreme court, security agencies, and the presidency – or to continue its all-out battle against itself, where everyone is a loser, even when someone is declared the winner either on this nomination, the mid-terms, or 2020.

Perth’s public transport system was tipped to suffer under the massive strain of the sellout crowd as it flooded the riverside venue.
“I would just ask everyone to be understanding that the transport system will have difficulty coping, in particular leaving the stadium,” Mr McGowan said.
“If you can leave early or delay your departure, that would be a good thing.
“If we can make sure that our train network can cope by people being a bit more understanding and perhaps going a little bit earlier or a little bit later, that would be great.”
The match, which sold out in minutes, was originally set to have a cap of 45,000 seats sold to reduce chaos on public transport after the result.
Hosts of Channel 10’s The Project weighed in on the puzzling farce gripping the semi final.
“You’d be happy to leave a $ 12.50 fish finger burger,” Lisa Wilkinson said, in reference to the stadium’s food criticism. “But this is crazy. How can they not be organised for this?”
Waleed Aly said the transport bungle was a “big issue” before cheekily slapping down Perth.
“Part of the problem is — and this will sound like a joke, it’s not — Perth is not used to having stadiums people want to go to,” he said as the audience laughed. “Seriously, that’s why they built that stadium — the WACA and Subiaco were so run-down, they haven’t sorted out the transport.”
As expected, Perth train stations were jam-packed after the match.
On top of the transport woes, it wasn’t a great night for Scorchers fans.
Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott cracked blistering half-centuries to help power the Hobart Hurricanes to a crushing 71-run win over the home side.
Wade struck 71 off 45 balls and McDermott added an unbeaten 67 off 30 to lift Hobart to 4-210 — the equal-third highest score in BBL history. In reply, the Scorchers were bowled out for 139 in 17.5 overs, ending their title defence in front of 52,960 disappointed fans.
The win propels the Hurricanes into an away final on Sunday — against the winner of Friday’s second semi-final between the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.
The Scorchers won the toss and elected to bowl, but quickly regretted the decision after the Hurricanes exploded out of the blocks.
All-rounder Mitch Marsh came under heavy punishment, returning figures of 0-53 off four overs in his first BBL match of the season.
Mitchell Johnson (0-43) and Tim Bresnan (2-40) were also expensive as part of a five-man pace attack, with the Scorchers dearly missing spinner Ashton Agar on international duties.
Hurricanes opener Tim Paine and Dan Christian both copped heavy knocks to the helmet from Johnson bouncers.
But they were among the very few blows the Scorchers could land at Perth’s new $ 1.5 billion stadium.
McDermott struck six sixes and four fours, while Wade tallied 10 fours and a six.
In reply, the Scorchers’ hopes evaporated after a series of quick wickets. Hobart paceman Tom Rogers (3-31) was the chief destroyer early, claiming the key scalps of Cameron Bancroft (1) and Shaun Marsh (30 off 18) in the sixth over to rip the heart out of the Scorchers.
And when George Bailey ran out Ashton Turner for two to leave the Scorchers at 5-57 in the eighth over, it was effectively lights out.
Dan Christian cleaned up the tail to finish with figures of 4-17.

White confirmed that Ferguson and Nurmagomedov would meet as the main event of a Brooklyn card on April 8 (Australian time), with a women’s strawweight title rematch between Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jędrzejczyk the co-main.
White was appearing at a press conference with the fighters and introduced Ferguson, currently the interim champ, as “the champion” – so was immediately asked if he had an update on McGregor’s status.
“I have no update. The winner of this fight will be the champion,” White said. “We’ll see what happens [with McGregor].
“The division has to go on.”
The declaration left MMA’s top reporters in total confusion.
Former champion Eddie Alvarez claimed that McGregor must have been stripped, with the UFC leaving the announcement for a more strategic time.
White hinted that McGregor may then return to face the winner of Ferguson-Nurmagomedov, yet again failed to clarify his status.
Ferguson said McGregor had turned down a unification match.
“They offered me Conor – Conor didn’t want to fight,” he said. “This is the real belt.
“I am the champ. Conor McNuggets is nothing, he’s lost his sauce. And this is defend or vacate. This is right here, I’m defending my belt.”
McGregor has never defended the lightweight belt he won at UFC 205 over Alvarez in November 2016, having only fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match last year. His UFC return may not be until August-September, White has said – if he comes back at all after an incredible $ 100 million windfall from the Mayweather fight.
White said later of Ferguson-Nurmagomedov: “No, it’s undisputed, I said it would be. I said the guy who wins this fight will be the champion.
“You will see what happens. Just relax.
“They’re going to fight for the title. I said that Conor can’t hold up the title for two years.
“Did I say he [McGregor] has been stripped of the title? Next question please.”
White has also confirmed Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar for the featherweight title as the main event for UFC 222.
We sense a disturbance in the Force and loyal fans will no doubt be hoping the upcoming film also sucks as it takes aim at their beloved characters.
The new movie has already taken its first pot shot by announcing the title will be Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue.
As well as mocking the grandiose stylings of Star Wars film titles, it has also taken a timely swing at all the speculation that surrounds efforts to create a sentence out of the most recent franchise titles.
The announcement of the new spoof was made by The Hollywood Reporter which dubbed the project: “The farce Awakens.”
It will be written and directed by the established team of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer who are bravely treading in the hallowed satirical footsteps of Mel Brooks who lampooned the Star Wars films with Spaceballs, back in 1987.
Hopes might be higher if they had managed to maintain the originality and box office success of their very first effort, Scary Movie, in 2000. Sadly, the farce has been snoozing since then.
Even Judi Dench has been getting in on the act recently, though, with a hilarious new video interrogating Daisy Ridley about The Last Jedi.
Friedberg and Seltzer’s original horror movie parody remains their most successful release to date, although the comedy duo were not involved in any of the sequels.
Instead, they went on to make Disaster Movie, the Twilight-bashing Vampires Suck and Epic Movie which, unsurprisingly, attempted to mock big-budget historical epics.
The new Star Wars spoof will be their first to directly target one specific franchise and will be financed by Covert Media.
Watch Mel Brooks show how it’s done next:
CEO Paul Hanson said: “Jason and Aaron are a powerhouse duo who have proven time and time again that they are fully tapped into what audiences love.
“Their fearless take on pop culture has us beyond thrilled to tackle the world’s most popular franchise with the two of them leading us into a galaxy far, far away.”
Whether anyone wants to follow them there remains to be seen.
