America Ferrera isn’t punching out of Superstore as soon as we thought.

TVLine can exclusively confirm that Ferrera — whose previously announced departure from NBC’s No. 1 comedy was delayed due to COVID-19 — has signed on to appear in not one, but two Season 6 episodes. As a result, the sitcom’s milestone 100th episode will now double as Ferrera’s swan song.

The news comes as Superstore works to incorporate the ongoing coronavirus pandemic into Amy’s farewell storyline, which began last season when she accepted a corporate gig in California.

“We’re lucky enough to have America back for our first two episodes of the season,” co-showrunners Jonathan Green and Gabe Miller tell TVLine. “There was so much we wanted to explore with COVID and how it changes the world of Cloud 9 that we decided to focus on that in the premiere, with Amy starting her new job remotely while still trying to manage the store.

“The second episode will cover Amy’s last day at Cloud 9, so we can fully give her the sendoff she deserves,” they continue. “It’s also Superstore‘s 100th episode, so we’re excited that America will be celebrating that milestone with us.”

Further elaborating on Season 6’s COVID theme, Green and Miller tell us that the premiere will pick up where last season’s cliffhanger left off, as the virus delays Amy and Jonah’s move to California. “[There will be] time jumps within the episode taking us through the early months of the pandemic, [before we] gradually catch up to where things are now. We’ll show how all of our characters are handling the uncertainty, the panicky and difficult customers, and the new demands of the job.” That includes Glenn and Dina, who “initially enjoy being called ‘heroes,’ but that doesn’t last long.”

Superstore Season 6 premieres Thursday, Oct. 22 (NBC, 8/7c). Scroll down for an exclusive first look at Season 6’s key art, featuring essential workers Jonah, Dina, Garrett, Cheyenne, Mateo, Sandra and Glenn, all masked up and ready to work through the ongoing crisis.

Windows 7 Extended Security Updates will double in price each year https://briefnews.eu/windows-7-extended-security-updates-will-double-in-price-each-year/ https://briefnews.eu/windows-7-extended-security-updates-will-double-in-price-each-year/#respond Wed, 06 Feb 2019 22:16:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/windows-7-extended-security-updates-will-double-in-price-each-year/

Windows 7’s free support period ends on January 14, 2020. Microsoft is offering three years of support updates for the operating system on a paid basis with a new program called Extended Security Updates (ESU). Unlike previous after-life support options for Windows, which were offered as part of separately negotiated support contracts, the Windows 7 ESU updates will be available to any volume license customer, regardless of size or sales channel.

Pricing for this support has now leaked to Mary Jo Foley. For organizations already subscribing to Windows Enterprise, the first year of updates will cost an additional $ 25 per device. This doubles to $ 50 for the second year and $ 100 for the third year. Organizations can’t skip a year, either; previous years must be paid for to obtain the year two and year three support. For companies sticking with Windows 7 Pro instead of subscribing to Windows Enterprise, the first year will cost $ 50 per device and will double each subsequent year to $ 100 and then $ 200.

TIP: How to Download Windows 10 (32/64-bit) for Free Legally

There’s no minimum purchase for the ESU subscriptions, so companies can buy as few as they need. It’s not clear if there will be any volume discounts for larger deployments still stuck with the legacy operating system.

Microsoft will no doubt hope this pricing serves as an incentive for organizations to switch to using Windows Virtual Desktop for their Windows 7 systems. These cloud-hosted virtual machines will receive the Windows 7 ESU updates at no extra cost beyond the basic license, plus the cost of the virtual machine they run on.

Zack Snyder Wanted to Kill Batman at Some Point in the DC Extended Universe https://briefnews.eu/zack-snyder-wanted-to-kill-batman-at-some-point-in-the-dc-extended-universe/ https://briefnews.eu/zack-snyder-wanted-to-kill-batman-at-some-point-in-the-dc-extended-universe/#respond Mon, 01 Oct 2018 18:39:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/zack-snyder-wanted-to-kill-batman-at-some-point-in-the-dc-extended-universe/ Zack Snyder Wanted to Kill Batman

Whether fans like it or not, the DC Extended Universe as Zack Snyder envisioned will never fully come to fruition. Following the disappointing box office performance of Justice League, the slate of DC Comics movies on the way is starting to branch out from building a cinematic universe and trying out some new things, like the origin movie for The Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Of course, Justice League heroes Wonder Woman and Aquaman are continuing on their path, even if Henry Cavill’s Superman may not be sticking around. But we still won’t be seeing what Zack Snyder originally envisioned for the characters, especially since there isn’t a Justice League follow-up in the works.

And that means we won’t get to see one of Snyder’s more bold decisions: to kill off Batman, something we’ve never seen done on the big screen before.

Twitter user Ramesh De Silva recently posted this image on Twitter, imagining what we might have seen if Zack Snyder’s original five-movie arc had played out in the DC Extended Universe as he imagined:

This was also posted to Vero, which is Zack Snyder’s social media outlet of choice, and the director actually saw this post and confirmed that he would have eventually ended up realizing this image on the big screen. Here’s a screenshot:

Zack Snyder Wanted to Kill Batman

Storyboard artist Jay Olivia described Zack Snyder’s five-movie vision for the DC Extended Universe as “epic, grand, emotional, joyful and unforgettable.” And killing The Dark Knight in a movie for the first time ever would have certainly helped accomplish that in some capacity. The question is how he would have done it and what ramifications it might have had on the future of the DCEU.

Originally, Justice League was intended to feature a crazed version of Superman for a much longer period of time than what we saw in the final cut. While Superman has a face off with the rest of the Justice League, Jay Olivia says some of the stuff he worked on had Superman “unhinged” and would have featured some “crazy stuff.” That’s where the black suit would have come into play, and perhaps that’s where the death of Batman would have been featured, leading into what Justice League: Part II would have been.

Considering the fact that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sets up the idea that Dick Grayson was killed in action as Robin (something else Zack Snyder confirmed), there’s a chance that another version of Robin, perhaps Jason Todd, could have introduced the idea of Nightwing. After all, there’s a movie about Nightwing in the works already, and Zack Snyder might have been involved in that movie as a producer if Warner Bros. Pictures didn’t choose to sever ties with his overall vision.

Even as someone who didn’t enjoy Batman v Superman all that much, I must admit there’s a part of me that’s very curious about what Zack Snyder’s uncompromised version of the DC Extended Universe might have looked like. It would have been fascinating to see where he took these characters and what he brought to the big screen, even if it wasn’t necessarily something that I was on board with. But alas, the DC Extended Universe and DC Comics movies in general are going in a different direction.

In the meantime, The Batman is still in the works with Matt Reeves behind the camera and Ben Affleck apparently reprising the role of the Caped Crusader. The script for the noir-driven comic book movie has been turned in, and word on the street is the studio loves it. Will it actually go into production early next year as planned? Stay tuned.

‘Shazam’ Trailer Breakdown: Bringing Some Magic, Comedy and Life to the DC Extended Universe https://briefnews.eu/shazam-trailer-breakdown-bringing-some-magic-comedy-and-life-to-the-dc-extended-universe/ https://briefnews.eu/shazam-trailer-breakdown-bringing-some-magic-comedy-and-life-to-the-dc-extended-universe/#respond Mon, 23 Jul 2018 18:51:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/shazam-trailer-breakdown-bringing-some-magic-comedy-and-life-to-the-dc-extended-universe/ Shazam Trailer Breakdown

If you told me before San Diego Comic-Con started that the first trailer for Shazam! was going to impress the hell out of me, I would have said you were crazy. But here we are after the sneak peek debuted in Hall H and spread across the web like wildfire, and even after seeing the trailer a few times now, I can still say that Shazam! has quickly and surprisingly become one of my more anticipated films of 2019.

Now that the trailer is out there for everyone to sink their teeth into, we wanted to dig into this footage a little bit more. While the trailer itself is pretty straightforward, there are some interesting details to glean, including how the Shazam! movie is taking cues from the New 52 origin story of the superhero.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Meet Billy Batson (Asher Angel). He’s a bit of a troublemaker, bouncing around foster homes in six different counties. It’s a bit of a cliche for a superhero origin story, but whatever works. He’s being taken to a new foster home, and his social worker tells him to try to give this one a chance, since that’s exactly what this family wants to give him.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

A quick shot shows us there’s a closeness in this foster family, led by Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans, and before dinner they all reach their hands into the middle of the table, seemingly as a way of saying grace. As you can see Billy isn’t exactly ready to become chummy with his new family just yet. He’s still got that loner, rebel attitude inside of him and he’s just dying to turn 18 so he can take care of himself

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Part of that family is Freddy Freeman, a disabled foster kid played by Jack Dylan Grazer. Clearly this kid isn’t letting life get him down as he has no problem joking around with Billy as soon as he arrives, tossing around a Game of Thrones reference for good measure. But Freddy isn’t nearly as obsessed with the HBO fantasy world as he is with superheroes.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

In Freddy’s room, there’s a Batarang on display, perhaps something he recovered from a crime scene. That would require some skill on his part since Freddy lives in Philadelphia and Gotham City would presumably be a long trek away. Then again, maybe’s it’s just a replica of a real Batarang. Next to it there’s a book about how superheroes are having an impact on the world. This is clearly where Freddy’s interests lie.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

The references to the DC Extended Universe don’t end there. Freddy has also been collecting newspapers from The Daily Planet and the Gotham Free Press whenever they do a story on Superman. It looks like he even has a bullet shell that was presumably deflected off Superman at some point, complete with a certificate of authenticity.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Freddy loves superheroes so much that he can’t stop talking about them at school either. He tries to have a fun conversation with Billy about what superpower he’d want, and all Billy wants to do is get out of the conversation as soon as possible.

Also, check out the background for a little Easter egg reference to Shazam’s comic book origins. Notice how it says Fawcett Central in the background? Obviously that’s the name of the school, which itself is a reference to Fawcett Comics, the original publisher of the Shazam comics, back when he was known as Captain Marvel. In the comics, the story of Billy Batson is based in Fawcett City, so this is a slightly different kind of tribute.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Though Billy may be doing everything he can to distance himself from Freddy and the rest of his foster family, he can’t help but do the right thing by stopping some bullies from picking on Freddy. It sounds like these guys maybe tried to mess with Freddy before, but his foster siblings maybe stopped them. Seems like they weren’t expecting Freddy’s new foster brother to do anything about it this time, but they got a dose of their own medicine.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

Billy tries to make a quick getaway on the subway. This scene draws inspiration directly from the New 52 comics, which in itself is a reference to the original 1940 introduction of the character when Billy was an orphaned newsboy forced to sleep in a subway station until he is imbued with the powers of a wizard in a magical subway car.

Shazam Trailer Breakdown

It’s not clear if the subway car itself is magical, or maybe the wizard is just using his magic to transport Billy to where he needs to be, but some ancient symbols pop up on the light-up destination box which indicate something isn’t quite right about this train ride.

Microsoft offers extended support for Windows, SQL 2008—but with a catch https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-offers-extended-support-for-windows-sql-2008-but-with-a-catch/ https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-offers-extended-support-for-windows-sql-2008-but-with-a-catch/#respond Thu, 12 Jul 2018 22:36:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/microsoft-offers-extended-support-for-windows-sql-2008-but-with-a-catch/

Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2, as well as SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2, are due to move out of extended support over the next few years—SQL Server in July 2019 and Windows Server in January 2020. For organizations still using that software, this offers a few options: keep using the software and accept that it won’t receive any more security updates, migrate to newer equivalents that are still supported, or pay Microsoft for a custom support contract to continue to receive security updates beyond the cutoff dates.

Today, Microsoft added a fourth option: migrate to Azure. Microsoft is extending the support window by three years (until July 2022 for SQL Server, January 2023 for Windows Server) for workloads hosted on Azure in the cloud. This extended support means that customers that make the switch to the cloud will receive another three years of security fixes. After those three years are up, customers will be back to the original set of choices: be insecure, upgrade, or pay for a custom support contract.

Microsoft isn’t requiring customers to demonstrate that they have any kind of migration plan in place, and this support scheme incurs no additional costs beyond those already imposed by running software on Azure in the first place.
