The iPhone 14's midframe maintains the same structural rigidity you saw in the 13 family. Apple had already moved the earpiece and front camera array to a more repairable location on the previous generation's mainframe.
The iPhone 14 isn't going to make Fairphone buyers regret their purchases. Apple still requires that customers and technicians activate parts after they're installed, so you can't just use an unofficial back instead of potentially pricier Self Service Repair components. Even so, iFixit claims this is the most repairable Apple handset since 2016's iPhone 7.
The rework isn't completely surprising. Apple is facing pressure to improve repairability from both the federal government and state legislatures. If it didn't address at-home repairs with its designs, it risked battles with regulators that could force changes and dish out penalties. Whatever the reasoning, you probably won't mind if you've been waiting for an iPhone that's truly fix-friendly.

On Tuesday, Twitter's former head of security, Peiter Zatko, will speak publicly for the first time since his bombshell whistleblower complaint that may be key to determining the company's future.
Zatko is set to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions about claims he made about Twitter's security failings.
Zatko's complaint details Twitter's allegedly negligent security practices and says they pose a threat to user privacy and even national security.
He also accuses Jack Dorsey of suffering from a "drastic loss of focus" in his final year as CEO, saying he was so disengaged that some senior employees allegedly speculated about whether he was sick.
Zatko's complaint contains myriad information that may interest US lawmakers. He accuses the company's leadership of misleading government regulators about security flaws that could potentially pave the way for foreign spying, hacking, or disinformation campaigns, according to CNN.
The complaint also alleges that Twitter's current CEO, Parag Agrawal, once suggested that the company bow to Russia's censorship and surveillance demands to grow its user base.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to question Zatko about all of these claims.
"Mr. Zatko's allegations of widespread security failures and foreign state actor interference at Twitter raise serious concerns. If these claims are accurate, they may show dangerous data privacy and security risks for Twitter users around the world. The Senate Judiciary Committee will investigate this issue further with a full Committee hearing this work period, and take further steps as needed to get to the bottom of these alarming allegations," Senators Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin said in a joint statement last month.
Twitter has denied Zatko's claims and has painted him as a disgruntled employee who was fired for "ineffective leadership and poor performance."
Interest in Zatko's testimony has intensified after a judge ruled that Elon Musk can use claims from the whistleblower's complaint in his legal battle to terminate his deal to buy Twitter.
The "hearing will be closely watched by the Street to better understand the details around security issues as well as the bot/fake account issue at the centerpiece of Musk's focus," Dan Ives, a technology analyst at Wedbush Securities, wrote in a recent note to clients.
Intensifying the drama: Twitter shareholders are expected to approve Musk's $ 44 billion takeover deal in a shareholder vote on Tuesday, the same day as Zatko's testimony, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Canada has just approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine to target the first highly contagious Omicron variant, with doses expected to start rolling out within days. But what exactly can we expect from these new shots when they land in the real world?
]]>Once again, we’re expecting to see four iPhone models, but the line-up will likely look different than the last few years. Not too long after the iPhone 13 hit stores, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the iPhone 14 would be a “complete redesign,” which would mark the first major revision since the iPhone X landed in 2017. Additionally, Apple may be giving up on the iPhone Mini, a phone we’ve always wanted to love, but the short battery life has been a sticking point. Instead, Apple will reportedly unveil a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max or Plus, which will likely just have the same hardware as the standard iPhone 14.

While that’s unfortunate news for fans of tiny devices, the trend among most consumers is towards larger screens. Apple can’t let Samsung have all the fun, after all. Similarly, Apple could be taking a cue from the Galaxy phone maker (and practically every other Android phone company) by introducing pin-hole front cameras on the iPhone 14 Pro models. While early leaks pointed to two separate cut-outs — a circular one for the camera alongside a pill-shaped hole for the FaceID sensor — MacRumors claims (with support from Gurman) they’ll show up as a single pill-shaped cut out unified by software. (See image above.) Additionally, 9to5Mac reports that Apple is using the space in the middle of the cut-out for its privacy notification dots, which appear when an app is using your camera or microphone. On existing iPhones, those dots are shoved above the cellular reception bars.
Apple appears to be saving most of its big updates for the Pro iPhones. For one, they could have always-on screens, according to 9to5Mac. That could work well with the revamped lock screens we’ve seen in iOS 16, which now have room for widgets and far more customization than before.
More controversially, though, is a report claiming that only the Pro models will receive Apple’s new A16 Bionic chip. The standard iPhone 14 models may stick with last year’s A15 (which is still plenty powerful). As a cost-saving measure, that makes sense, especially chips and other components still in short supply. But it marks the first time Apple has introduced a major performance gulf between its iPhone models. (It’s particularly surprising since Apple was also able to squeeze the A15 chip into the tiny iPhone 13 Mini.) Most consumers won’t know the difference, but having a more powerful chip would clearly be a big draw for Pro models.

Typically, Apple has used its camera technology as the big differentiator between the standard and Pro iPhones. That doesn’t appear to be changing. In addition to all of the upgrades above. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to bump the Pro’s wide camera to 48-megapixels, a huge leap from the 12MP cameras the company has relied on for years. More recently, Kuo also claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro ultra-wide sensors will feature larger pixels with better low-light sensitivity. As for the base iPhone 14, it’s expected to get the six-element ultra-side camera from the iPhone 13 Pro.
And what are we to make of the “Far Out” text on Apple’s event invite? The ever-busy Kuo recently noted that Apple has completed testing on satellite connectivity for the iPhone 14, something that was also rumored to arrive ahead of the iPhone 13’s launch. Even though the hardware may be in place, Apple is reportedly still working on partner deals to unlock that connectivity. And while the idea of satellite support seemed wild last year, it makes more sense now that we’ve seen T-Mobile and SpaceX team up to offer emergency satellite support via StarLink. (Good news for iPhone 13 owners: Kuo claims those phones also have satellite hardware built-in.) Don’t expect to be FaceTiming via satellite, though, as the limited bandwidth will only leave room for short text messages and voice calls.
Much like the iPhone, all eyes will likely be on a “Pro” Apple Watch next week. Bloomberg’s Gurman reported in July that the new model could sport a larger 2-inch screen, more durable titanium case and battery life for up to two days, thanks to a new “low power” mode. If all that ends up being true, the Apple Watch Pro would also be significantly larger than the current Series 7 model. Given all of its new hardware, Gurman claims it’ll be the biggest redesign of the Apple Watch since the Series 4 landed in 2017. Don’t get your hopes up for a round design, though, it sounds like Apple is just evolving its current rectangular style.
The Apple Watch Pro is also rumored to include the new temperature sensor that’s rumored for the Watch Series 8. It could potentially alert you if you’re running a fever, and suggest that you see a doctor or use a dedicated thermometer for a more accurate reading. It could also be a useful resource for period and fertility tracking apps. Design-wise, the Series 8 isn’t expected to change much from last year’s models. It may end up running the same dual-core S7 chip as the Series 7, though some higher-end models could have an improved display.

Given that we’re nearing three years since the launch of the AirPods Pro, it’s high time Apple followed up with a sequel. Gurman last year initially claimed the AirPods Pro 2 could have a stem-less design, much like Google’s Pixel Buds, but a more recent report from MacRumors suggests that the AirPods Pro 2 won’t look much different than before. Instead, leaked renders point to a new case with speaker holes (which would help with alerts for the “Find My” app) and a slot for a strap. The latter would be an anomaly for Apple, but it could be useful for attaching an AirTag. (Better yet, just build that into the case Apple!)
As for sound quality, Kuo claimed earlier this year that the AirPods Pro 2 could include support for Apple’s Lossless Audio (ALAC), which could be a draw for audiophiles. (Let’s not get into the viability of actually hearing any differences on small earbuds, though.) Additionally, the new headphones may include an updated H1 chip, as well as driver improvements similar to the AirPods 3. But don’t hold your breath for any health tracking features, as Gurman recently noted that they won’t include heart-rate or body temperature sensors as earlier rumors suggested.

Apple typically saves its biggest iPad news for its second fall event, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see some news about its entry-level model next week. The 10th-generation iPad is expected to include a USB-C port, bringing it in line with the rest of the family, and it could get a speed bump with the A14 Bionic chip. Don’t expect any major design changes, though, as the entry-level iPad doesn’t get much love from Apple these days. So be prepared to see thick bezels and a home button, once again. But on the plus side, it may finally get 5G support as well as a revamped front-facing camera, according to 9to5Mac.

The Masked Singer is getting all dolled up for Season 5 — and here’s a sneak peek performance to prove it.
One of the competitors in the upcoming season of Fox’s bizarre singing competition is Russian Doll, whose costume only allows for the most minimal of movements — a marionette-style mouth with a lower jaw that opens and closes.
You can get a good look at the… innovative new Masked Singer entry via the full performance below, which Fox released Tuesday. In the clip, Russian Doll and a friend perform “Shallow,” the Grammy- and Oscar-winning Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper ballad. (You truly have not lived until you’ve seen that little mouth flap up and down to all the “la-la-laaaa”s.)
In addition to the previously announced addition of wildcard contestants in this season’s gameplay, Fox on Tuesday also introduced Cluedle-Doo (as seen below), a giant rooster who’ll mess with the judges and offer new clues about the players’ identities.

The Masked Singer returns for Season 5 on Wednesday, March 10 at 8/7c. Niecy Nash (Claws) will guest-host the first few episodes, as a result of regular emcee Nick Cannon testing positive for COVID-19 in early February.

The East High Wildcats are back (and with a longer title than ever!) to bring us High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Holiday Special.
Now streaming on Disney+, the joyous event finds the cast of HSM:TM:TS performing a series of festive jams — including classics like “Little Saint Nick” and “Feliz Navidad,” as well as “The Perfect Gift,” a new song written by series star Joshua Bassett — from what feels like every corner of the world. So, how did the whole thing come about?
“I had this crazy plan that someday we would shoot a High School Musical Christmas movie with the cast,” showrunner Tim Federle tells TVLine. “We were a couple of months into quarantine, and I knew we would be returning to Salt Lake to start shooting Season 2, but it still felt pretty dire. No one had really cracked it. So I said to Disney, ‘What if we used this natural separation to our advantage and got to know the actors behind the characters? When I was a fan of teen shows, I would read any interview I could that would tell me just a little bit more about the actors. And as soon as I looked at the brilliant actors that we have, the songs just fell into place.”
And this is where Federle reveals himself to be a time wizard: “I thought, ‘If this lands around the holidays in 2020, we’ll all be so Zoomed out as a society,’” he says. “So even though I pitched the special over the summer, I fought hard to not have the cast shoot themselves on iPhones. That made it 100 times harder, but hopefully it’s something that will stand the test of time.”
One of the most stirring performances comes courtesy of Olivia Rodrigo, who introduces Joni Mitchell’s “River” to a new generation of viewers. And if you think the setting of her big number looks familiar, you’ve got a good eye. Or you just watch a lot of reality TV.
“We shot that in the middle of a heatwave in front of the Bachelor mansion in Malibu,” Federle says. “It was the only location in Los Angeles that was available at the height of quarantine. It just makes me laugh that Olivia looks into the fountain, and I’m like, ‘The number of Bachelors I’ve watched walk past that fountain…’ We’re really carrying on the legacy.” Check out her performance below:
The special also gives us our first look at HSM:TM:TS‘ second season, much of which has already been filmed. “We’re still working on the last couple of episodes,” Federle says. “We always have some surprises up our sleeves.” But fear not — the coronavirus won’t be one of those surprises.
“We made a game day decision where we were like, ‘Let’s let Grey’s Anatomy do that. They’re going to do it really well. That’s their world,’” he explains. “By the time we premiere, I truly do believe that we as a world will be on a better track. I don’t know if people will want to tune in for a half hour every week to be reminded of what we just came out of. So you will not see masks in Season 2, other than potentially a Beast mask.”

“Football Focus I’ve done for a long time, but that job changes all the time, so it feels very different.
“But mostly I’ve only really been places 18 months, and then I’ve moved on.”
“It’s a great gig, and I love it. And from day one Louise made the job really easy,” he continued.
“I wouldn’t have done it for as long and enjoyed it for this long without being able to sit next to somebody like her. I’ve learned an awful lot from her.”

A Place In The Sun saw Ben Hillman jet off to Malta to help Sharon and Nev from Salisbury hunt for the perfect home. Having visited the Island three times a year for the past few years, the couple felt a strong connection and were hoping to make the move from the UK to Malta permanently, should the right property come up on the market. With a budget of £160,000, Ben delivered five great options for them to view, but it wasn’t long before the prospective buyers were disappointed by how much their money could buy them versus what they had in mind.
Easy access, two bedrooms, outside space and close to the city centre, Ben didn’t hold back when it came to being realising with what they could afford.
“Crikey!” The presenter remarked. “This looks like it could be one of my toughest searches yet.
“The average price of a two-bed is £225,000, so we will have to start smaller.”
The first property was indeed a one-bedroom apartment in Cospicua, and ten minutes walk from the waterside.
It was fully renovated with bags of character and modern touches to the interior.

“I’m pleasantly surprised!” Sharon said as they stepped through the front door.
While the kitchen was a “good size” and the bedroom “not a bad space” it was the outdoor courtyard which Nev and Sharon felt let down over.
“This is a real shame,” Sharon commented. “We thought we could make it work, until we saw the outside space, and then we were a little disappointed.”
Ben had to up his game for the second property and he did just that with a three-bed apartment in Zabbar.
It was however on the second floor, and was one of six in the block.
“I’m going to keep an open mind,” she told Ben.
Stepping inside, they soon learnt they would need to install a kitchen, but enjoyed the “blank canvas”.
“It’s massive!” Sharon remarked.
“Does this excite you?” Ben asked to which the inside of the property did, but the noise was too much for them to bear.
The penultimate apartment boasted one bedroom and was 20 minutes from the airport.
It was valued at £159,091 at the time of filming and had two balconies, both with sea views.
The curb had no appeal to Sharon and Nev and Channel 4 viewers saw Ben reply with: “Not the best response, but I hope once they get up there and see the views they will change their mind.”
“That’s very small,” Sharon commented on the kitchen, and Nev said the “stairs were too much”.
“I don’t like the bathroom next to the kitchen, that is not good. And it’s really old,” Sharon continued.
“This is it guys, our final property, and I think the best of the best properties available for your budget. It’s first floor, with a lift, outside space, three bedrooms,” Ben rejoiced for fifth apartment.
“Positive, can’t wait to get inside How much is it?” Sharon said cutting straight to the chase.
“I think it’s a fantastic price, on the market for over £163,000,” Ben said before adding the owner would consider offers at the top end of the couple’s budget.
“The way I see this place, is it’s mainly cosmetic,” the presenter said referring to the bold and brash interior design.
“It needs gutting,” Sharon stated when she looked at the kitchen cupboards and Ben hit back: “I wasn’t expecting you to be that brutal!”
And it seems the furniture was proving difficult for Sharon and Nev to look past.
“Our heart says yes, but our head says there is a hell of a lot of work to do,” Nev explained.
As a result, they rejected every single property Ben showed them.
A Place In The Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
Death in Paradise’s first ever detective inspector could be making a reappearance in the 10th season of the hit BBC One comedy drama. Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller) was killed off in episode one of the third instalment during a university reunion. It was up to DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) to investigate his death and find the culprit. But as fans look towards the shows anniversary, they are hoping for episodes jam-packed full of quality content, and some have been surmising about a flashback involving DI Poole.
Fans were devastated when the third series of the light-heated mystery show kicked off with their beloved lead character being found dead.
As for who murdered the detective, that was no secret.
DI Poole was not killed in the line of duty, instead, he was killed by an old friend.
The Island of Saint Marie welcomed a university reunion, where amongst them, was DI Poole’s long-time crush, Sasha Moore (Helen Baxendale) who had recently got married.

But the woman standing in front of his was not part of the alumni, in fact, it was Sasha’s sister who was posing to be Sasha and get revenge.
When DI Poole realised Sasha’s sister had committed identity fraud, she silenced him by killing him with an ice pick.
Many were shocked to see DI Poole’s departure but there is a chance the fan favourite could make a comeback – of sorts – during the tenth season.
It comes after Executive Producer Tim Key said: “We are delighted to be able to start filming and can’t wait to celebrate our tenth series with our audience.
“I continued to watch the show, series 3 through 8, on Britbox. But as far as I’m concerned, series 3 episode 1 never happened.
“DI Poole is alive and well back in London. #DeathInParadise,” another remarked.
Someone else spoke fondly of the character: “I’ve discovered #DeathInParadise. Looove DI Richard Poole. The wit. The charm. The brilliance. The misery.”
“DI Richard Poole is my favourite,” a tweet read.
While one viewer commented: “Nobody can beat Richard Poole, but Parker’s close.#deathinparadise .”
As for why Ben decided to leave the role, he said back in 2013: “It was the job of a lifetime, but logistically I just didn’t feel I could continue.
“I arrived out here for the first series and within a few weeks my wife Jessica discovered she was pregnant.
“That threw everything because it meant she couldn’t come and visit me for the six months I was out here,” he told Radio Times.
Death in Paradise is available to watch on the BBC iPlayer now.
