VIVID TRAVEL
Moving to a new country is tough. It often means needing to find new friends, working in a new environment, and settling into a totally new way of life.
That’s why InterNations, the world’s largest network for expats, has compiled the top 30 countries for getting a good job, making friends, and raising a family.
The ranking is based on interviews with more than 18,000 expats living in 68 countries around the world.
Take a look at the list of countries below — and see if your next destination made the list.

Where are expats happiest? In countries where the living is easy, according to a recent survey conducted by InterNations, a community of 2.8 million expats. And where is living the easiest? The Persian Gulf island nation Bahrain, long famed for its pearl fisheries, is ranked as the top place where expats feel at home.
In fact:
What makes Bahrain so great? The friendly local residents whose welcoming demeanor puts newcomers at ease. That’s according to the survey of nearly 13,000 people across 166 nationalities living and working abroad. In 2016, Bahrain jumped from the 19th to the No. 1 most desirable country for expats.
The small archipelago also ranks high in job satisfaction. Three-quarters of respondents said that they were satisfied with their jobs, and some 41 percent of expats say they earn more money in Bahrain than they would at home. And one-third see themselves staying for more than five years — and maybe “forever,” for 11 percent of the respondents.
The U.S. didn’t fare so well, plummeting 17 spots to No. 43.
That’s likely because within the past year, Bahrain has made it easier to move to and settle in the country, as well as improved the quality of education and the availability of child care, says InterNations founder and co-CEO Malte Zeeck. For example, while only 17 percent of expat parents considered the quality of education to be very good last year, the figure jumped to 37 percent this year. More survey respondents were happy with their ability to make new friends as well.
Costa Rica and Mexico also scored high for friendliness, rounding out the top three best countries for expats. Costa Rica ranked first for ease of making new friends, and Mexico took the top spot for having the friendliest local population in the world.
The U.S. didn’t fare so well, plummeting 17 spots to No. 43. Seventy-two percent of expats in the U.S. say health care is unaffordable, and the country ranks lowest for costs of child care and education. The U.K. also hit a slump, falling 21 places to No. 54. Some 69 percent of expats in the U.K. say housing is unaffordable, and nearly two-thirds aren’t keen on the cost of living in general.
Sure, life might be great for many expats in the Middle East, but it’s likely not a long-term arrangement. They are “more likely to move from country to country and to own a property back home, so they could settle there when they return from their expat years,” explains Rym Saker, a spokesperson for London-based banking and financial firm HSBC. In that company’s 2016 Expat Explorer survey, 57 percent of expats in Bahrain said that they plan to return home in the future, compared to 48 percent globally.
Of course, it all comes down to what you as an expat desire. In Bahrain’s case, it might be the mild winters, beautiful turquoise waters, a growing art and food scene (thanks to all those expats) and a glamorous nightlife. Or simply feeling at home fast, thanks to the welcoming nature of Bahrainis.

Everyone has to leave home at some point. But rather than head across the country, some people head across the world in search of greener pastures.
Choosing where to go can be an overwhelming decision. HSBC Expat is making that decision a whole lot easier thanks to its annual survey of 25,000 expats around the world.
The survey, released Monday, reveals the best places to live in the world to earn the highest income as an expat. While U.S. cities like San Francisco and New York made the top ten, it seems the direction to move is east. Asian cities made up four of the top ten cities for expat incomes.
We pulled out the top 30 cities for expat incomes, all of which are above the global average of $ 99,903. Have a look — you might find your new home.

If you’re looking to move abroad, you’ll definitely want to consider how easy it will be to get a job in your new home.
And while you could try asking a few friends and family members who have relocated, it’s arguably more efficient to turn to survey data that addresses precisely that concern.
The Expat Explorer Survey, commissioned by HSBC Expat and conducted by YouGov, asked adults currently living away from their home country about the job opportunities in the cities where they live now.
In total, 27,587 expats from 159 countries and territories participated in the online questionnaire. A city had to have 90 expat respondents to be included in the analysis.
The global average for people who said there were fantastic job opportunities in their city was 25%.
Below, we’ve listed the top 27 cities for expats to work in 2018.

If you’re thinking about living abroad, the best people to ask for tips might be the people who have already done it: expats.
Expatriate network and global guide InterNations put together a list of the best international cities for living and working abroad, according to expats they surveyed.
To compile the data, InterNations surveyed 7,985 expats living across 40 countries. At least 45 respondents were required for a city to be included in the list. City rankings were determined based on the quality and cost of urban living, quality of work life and finances, and ease of settling into the city.
Below, the overall best cities for expats in 2017. We also noted how much basic necessities (and beer) would cost there, based on figures from Numbeo. All amounts are in US dollars and are current as of November 2017.

Moving abroad may sound like a grand adventure, but most people who do it are after one thing: a paycheck.
The majority of global expats — 41% — relocated because of their career or their partner’s career, whether by choice or out of necessity, according to the Expat Insider 2017 report from expatriate network and global guide InterNations. To compile the data, InterNations surveyed 12,519 expats, representing 166 nationalities and living in 188 countries around the world.
Love was the second most commonly cited catalyst, motivating 12% of moves overseas. Other reasons included wanting a better quality of life (8%), to have an adventure (7%), or simply because they enjoy living abroad (3%).
Although money may be a major motivating factor, the report found expats’ satisfaction with their personal finances varied greatly depending on where they live.
InterNations developed its 2017 personal finance index by ranking 65 countries based on how survey respondents felt about their financial situation, and whether their disposable income was sufficient to cover their expenses.
In Greece, which ranked last on the personal finance index, half of expats reported not having enough household income to keep up with daily expenses, and 27% said they didn’t have enough money to make ends meet. That’s in sharp contrast to Vietnam, which took the top spot on the index, where 93% of expats said they have enough or more than they need to cover their cost of living.
For each country on the list, we compiled the average cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment in the center of town, utilities, and commuting, as well as the price of a cappuccino and a pint of domestic beer, according to global cost of living database Numbeo. All amounts are in US dollars and are current as of September 2017.

The CEO of the budget Irish airline is due to meet with Chris Grayling to discuss the future of Open Skies.
Brexit will be firmly on the agenda, as the March 2019 date marks the end of the Open Skies Agreement, unless another deal is struck.
Michael O’Leary has been vocal in recent months about the real possibility of no flights between the UK and EU once Britain leaves.
Ryanair and other airlines have called on the UK government to reach an aviation agreement with the bloc as a matter of urgency.
The Transport Secretary meeting will be an opportunity for Mr O’Leary to further push this agenda.
The Government insists it is “committed to getting the best deal possible” for UK aviation in a post-Brexit world.
A spokesperson told Express.co.uk last month: “We will work closely with the international aviation community to ensure that this global industry continues to be a major success story for the UK economy.”
Today’s talks will put more pressure on the Government to strike a deal for March 2019.
Last month Mr O’Leary claimed meetings so far have failed to make any real progress.
He said: “There are communications between us and the UK Government. I am sorry to report, they don’t have a bulls notion what they’re doing.”
A spokesman for the Department for Transport (DfT) said: “Aviation is absolutely crucial to the UK’s economy and we are committed to getting the right deal for Britain.
“Our aviation industry is the largest in Europe, and both we and the EU benefit from the connectivity it provides.
“That’s why we are pursuing liberal access to European aviation markets – including all the benefits that brings for consumers.”
Negotiations are underway for Britain to formally the exit the European Union, a deadline of which has been set for March 2019.
One of the many questions that remains unanswered is the future of the aviation industry. As a member of the EU, Britain currently operates under the Open Skies agreement.
Airlines have repeatedly called on the Government for clarity on how the industry can proceed in 2019. Ryanair has threatened no flights between the UK and Europe after 2019 if a deal isn’t struck.
According to The Times, airlines are already considering adding new clauses for 2019 fares to cover them if flights have to be cancelled.
Ryanair told Express.co.uk it’s “too early to speculate” on these post-Brexit conditions.
The EU’s many differences with Britain on citizens’ rights, including the role of the EU court, need to be sorted out before talks on a trade deal can start, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator said on Wednesday.
“We want EU citizens in Britain to have the same rights as British citizens who live in the EU,” Michel Barnier told a news conference in Brussels, adding that the current British position did not guarantee equal rights.
Barnier said the European Court of Justice should be the “ultimate guarantor” of those rights, and if Britain opposed this “it would create uncertainty.”
Britain wants to regulate citizens’ rights under British law.
He said there should be progress on all three priority Brexit issues before talks on a wider future relationship could start. As well as citizens’ rights the other priority areas are Britain’s exit bill and borders.
“These three priority subjects for the first phase of negotiations are inseparable. In other words, progress on one or two of these topics will not be sufficient to move on to discussions about our future relationship with the United Kingdom,” Barnier said.
Commenting on British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson’s quip on Tuesday that the EU could “go whistle” for big payments from Britain as part of the Brexit deal, Barnier said: “I’m not hearing any whistling, just the clock ticking.”
Barnier dismissed some UK politicians’ accusations that the Brexit bill was a ransom bill, with the EU motivated by a desire to punish Britain.
“It is simply a matter of settling the accounts. It is not easy, it costs a lot, in any separation. We are not asking from Britain a single euro, a single pound more than what it agreed to pay,” Barnier said.
