										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>        The Federal Bureau of Investigation has unexpectedly made public the results of a confidential annual employee questionnaire, including a survey on the three year performance of former director James Comey.</p>

<p>Covering a three year period from 2015 -2017, the survey evaluated Comey’s flexibility and adaptability, initiative, integrity, resilience, team building and communication skills among other criteria, using a scale of 1-5.</p>
<p>Between 2015 and 2017, Comey score under &#8220;<em>Represents the FBI well’&#8221; </em>grew and then fell, from 4.97 in 2015, to 5.00 in 2016 to 4.66 in 2017, shows the survey released by the FBI Records Vault Twitter account on Tuesday.</p>
<p>According to the results, Comey showed high marks for flexibility and adaptability, integrity, resilience, team building and organizing scoring 4 points and above in response to dozens of questions from <em>“handles hard questions well”</em> to <em>“understands the big picture”</em> to <em>“treats people fairly.”</em></p>
<p>Lower marks appeared when it came to questions over <em>“engaging in meaningful conversations”</em> about performance or development, scoring 3.78 in 2017 up from 3.76 in 2016, or addressing <em>“leaders or employees who are struggling”</em> which fell from 4.43 in 2015 down to 3.84 in 2017.</p>

<p>The release comes four months after President Donald Trump fired Comey on May 9, at the recommendation of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.</p>
<p>In a memorandum to Session, Rosenstein wrote that over the past year, <em>“the FBI’s reputation and credibility have suffered substantial damage, and it has affected the entire Department of Justice.”</em></p>
<p>Rosenstein wrote that he could not defend Comey’s handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton’s emails. Comey was criticized for making several public announcements about probes into Clinton’s emails which was seen by many as not the function of an FBI director.</p>
<p><em>“Almost everyone agrees that the Director made serious mistakes; it is one of the few issues that unites people of diverse perspectives,”</em> Rosenstein wrote in his memo to Sessions.</p>
<p>The White House justified the decision by saying that Comey was not effectively leading the Bureau. Trump’s critics accused him of seeking to derail the FBI’s investigation into allegations that Russia somehow interfered in the 2016 US election.</p>
<p>The annual questionnaire, known as the <em>“Field Office and Headquarters Climate Survey Results,”</em> asks its 35,000 employees to weigh in to illuminate workplace problems at the agency. The FBI uses the data to help improve current leadership, pick new ones, and encourages employee thoughts on how the FBI can improve.</p>
<p>Previously, employee survey data would be released in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, such as the one <a target="_blank" href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/fbi-survey/">filed by the Washington Post</a> in 2015.</p>

<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">The lawsuit filed Thursday in Santa Clara Superior Court alleges that Sterling Anderson, a program manager with the automaker&#8217;s Autopilot team, violated his contract by attempting to recruit at least a dozen Tesla engineers, taking confidential and proprietary information, and doctoring and destroying evidence to &#8220;cover his tracks—all for the benefit of a competing venture he launched while still a Tesla employee.&#8221;</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">Anderson, who managed parts of the Autopilot team, was terminated January 4, according to court documents.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">Autopilot is an advanced driver assistance system of hardware and software developed by Tesla that can steer, keep the vehicle within a lane, and adjust speed in response to traffic.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">Autopilot in vehicles built between September 2014 and October 2016 uses a combination of a camera and radar with enhanced processing, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and navigation data. As of October 2016, new Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles are equipped with what the company calls Hardware 2—a more robust suite of sensors, cameras, and radar and software that will enable them to (eventually) <a target="_blank" href="http://fortune.com/2016/10/19/tesla-self-driving-tech/" target="_blank">drive autonomously</a>—without human intervention.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">The court documents paint a picture of alleged corporate subterfuge that involves wiping a company iPhone of damning evidence and manually hacking the timestamps on files and secure-erasing others, all in an attempt to conceal his misdeeds.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">The lawsuit contains damning accusations that Anderson and Urmson, anxious to capitalize on the recent spate of high-dollar acquisitions by major automakers of autonomous driving startups, sought an unfair advantage. Tesla specifically refers to General Motors&#8217; acquisition of Cruise Automation for more than $   billion and Uber&#8217;s purchase of Otto for $  680 million as examples of the kind of opportunities available to startups that have developed highly sought after autonomous driving technology.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">“Tesla’s meritless lawsuit reveals both a startling paranoia and an unhealthy fear of competition,&#8221; according to a statement sent to <em>Fortune</em> from Aurora Innovation LLC. &#8220;This abuse of the legal system is a malicious attempt to stifle a competitor and destroy personal reputations. Aurora looks forward to disproving these false allegations in court and to building a successful self-driving business.”</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 _10M0Ygc4">Tesla declined to comment on the lawsuit. However, within the court document Tesla says it &#8220;does not file this action lightly.&#8221; The company says it understands some employees may decide to pursue other opportunities or even to create a startup of their own and is typically supportive.</p>
<p class="column small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 large-offset-2 end _10M0Ygc4">&#8220;However, Tesla cannot sit idly by when an employee like Anderson abuses his position of trust and orchestrates a scheme to deliberately and repeatedly violate his non-solicit agreement, hide evidence, and take the company&#8217;s confidential and proprietary information for use in a competing venture. Faced with such extreme and inexcusable misconduct, Tesla has no choice but to act.&#8221;</p>
