Days before Emmanuel Macron visited French troops in Chad for Christmas, his scandal-plagued former aide Alexandre Benalla traveled to the African country to meet a top official. And the Elysée palace had some explaining to do.

Benalla, who lost his job after his beating of a protester prompted the French president’s ‘Watergate’ scandal, went to Chad in style. He traveled on a private jet with half a dozen people and stayed in a luxury Hilton hotel in the capital N’Djamena. But it was his reported meeting with the brother of the Chadian president Oumar Déby, who is also in charge of country’s Directorate-General of Strategic Reserves, that raised the questions.

When Macron came to Chad on December 22, he had to clarify to Idriss Déby, the Chadian president, that Benalla was in “no way an unofficial or official intermediary.”

“Only the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the diplomatic adviser to the President, Philippe Etienne, and Franck Paris, the president’s Africa adviser, are representing the head of state,” he told Deby, according to his office’s response to Le Monde.

The Benalla affair has arguably been one of the top scandals marring Macron’s presidency in 2018. The former assistant chief of staff and bodyguard assaulted seemingly peaceful demonstrators during the May 1st protests in Paris.

The rogue aide was filmed violently beating a male protester and dragging a woman, all while wearing a police-issue riot helmet. Macron’s office seemingly tried to sweep the incident under the rug, prompting public anger. Several months after being sacked Benalla continued to create embarrassment for his former boss, but also seems to have tried to capitalize on his connections.

During the Chad trip, the Elysée said that “an internal investigation is under way” to establish whether Benalla was able to “take advantage of his position” for his own interests, according to Le Monde.

The tweet was posted early Monday morning while Jennifer Palmieri was departing San Francisco Airport. In it, she blurted out a few insensitive quips about her choice of travel.

“You guys. I just got into [an] unmarked gypsy cab at sfo with a Russian driver. If I disappear–it’s a tan Lincoln continental,” she contemptuously commented.

Before tossing out the damning tweet, she consulted and personally thanked actor Josh Charles for his brilliant advice on how to stay safe from the Russian menace.

If this was meant as a joke, not everyone was laughing. Palmieri’s tweet was immediately picked up by several prominent netizens, who expressed their disdain for the casual bigotry.

Arab-American Institute founder James Zogby slammed her anti-Russian tweets, prompting Palmieri to delete her tweet shortly after spotting his angry complaint.

“This is not funny. It’s deeply offensive and hurtful, especially coming from a Democrat. I represent a community of immigrants – many have accents and ‘foreign’ names. They deal with suspicion and insults daily,” he lamented.

However, he did leave her with some constructive advice.

“A tip: respect drivers! If you speak with them you’ll see they have amazing experiences,” he added.

High-profile journalist for The Intercept and constitutional lawyer Glenn Greenwald captured the tit-for-tat Twitter battle just after Palmieri’s comments provoked backlash, noting that Palmieri made no attempt to apologize or address her actions.

“Palmieri has now deleted the tweet with no explanation or apology, so it here it is below. She seemed to do so in response to this tweet from James Zogby,” he pointed out, before her tweet vanished into cyberspace.

Palmieri, 51, was in charge of communications for former US president Barack Obama, before departing the White House in 2015 to run communications for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during her 2016 election bid. She currently works for the Center for American Progress, founded by Clinton campaign chair John Podesta.

After her candidate lost, Palmieri accused US President Donald Trump of bigotry. “Trump provided a platform by retweeting white nationalists — giving their views an audience of millions,” she commented in a December 2016 Washington Post op-ed.

Much of Clinton’s campaign messaging focused on the Democrats’ stance on racial tolerance. However, Palmieri has been caught engaging in bigotry several times, after WikiLeaks published 20,000 pages of emails from Podesta’s private account.

“I imagine they think it is the most socially acceptable politically conservative religion. Their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals,” Palmieri wrote in an April 11, 2011 email.

Four years later, in April 2015, Palmieri also condoned Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook’s acceptance of illegal campaign donations from foreign governments, urging him to “Take the money!”

Former-aide to Brexit Secretary David Davis, James Chapman, has now turned on Theresa May, claiming she’s so “fed up” with the job of prime minister that she no longer sleeps at 10 Downing Street.

“Where is Theresa May?” Chapman tweeted.

“I hear she’s so fed up she doesn’t sleep in No10. Hand over to someone who’s up to the job eh?”

The tweet comes a day after Chapman’s online tirade in which he accused Davis of being a lazy, incompetent, bullying liar who was unfit for the job of negotiating Britain’s EU exit.

He also questioned the intellect of the prime minister and claimed neither she nor Davis had any idea what they were doing on Brexit.
He claimed Davis “leered” over Labour MP Diane Abbott while allegedly “drunk,” and that he keeps former UKIP leader Nigel Farage on “speed dial.”

He also claimed Davis got easy rides in BBC interviews because he had close relationships with top presenters, and made extraordinary outbursts against foreign leaders.

He also called on his former Brexit department colleagues to resign, as they were being asked “to facilitate misconduct in public office.”

Chapman also tweeted: “Brexiteers asking if I’ve gone mad. Well I am incandescent at what they’ve done to my country.”

Chapman, who is also the former political editor of the Daily Mail, a forthright anti-European Union newspaper, was appointed chief of staff to Britain’s Brexit secretary David Davis.

He quit the Department for Exiting the European Union before the election in June, and in recent weeks has begun sharing some of his concerns about the lack of planning by British officials and the apparent unwillingness to publicly address the scale of the task.

Chapman claims the only way to escape the mess of Brexit is for the creation of a new party called the “Democrats” to be launched in September.

The new party would seek to overturn Brexit and then ban all future referenda.

In the days since he first proposed the idea, Chapman says he has been approached by two Tory MPs in Cabinet and several former Cabinet ministers asking about the new party.

With a taste of what’s to come, Chapman tweeted that environment secretary, Michael Gove, is next.

David Davis’ former aide has launched a Twitter tirade against the Brexit chief, claiming he is “drunk, bullying and inappropriate” and had been “working a three day week since day one.”

In a stream of early-morning tweets, James Chapman made a series of claims about the man leading Britain’s negotiations to leave the EU.

He made the accusation that Davis “leered” over Labour MP Diane Abbott while allegedly “drunk” and that he keeps former UKIP leader Nigel Farage on “speed dial.”

He also claimed Davis got easy rides in BBC interviews because he had close relationships with top presenters, and conducted extraordinary outbursts against foreign leaders.

While Davis was doing a series of interviews on breakfast television and radio on Tuesday morning, Chapman called for Remain-supporting MPs “of honor” such as Chancellor Philip Hammond, Jeremy Hunt, Justine Greening, and Sajid Javid to quit the cabinet.

Chapman also suggested Davis would never prep for Radio 4 Today programme interviews with presenter John Humphrys because the two were close to the extent of going on “holiday” together.

Davis was in February branded “disgusting” By Labour MPs after a leaked text message showed he had suggested Diane Abbott was not attractive enough to kiss.

A spokesperson for Davis at the time said he was sorry for any offence caused and that the message was a “private exchange with a friend.”

Commenting on the episode on Tuesday, Chapman tweeted: “I was with David Davis when he leered over Diane Abbott. He was drunk, bullying and inappropriate.”

Chapman also recounted two of Davis’s outbursts at foreign leaders.

“Someone should ask David Davis about the time he told horrified Slovakian PM ‘if you think we are going to pay so you can sell us your cars, forget it.’”

He added: “Someone should ask David Davis about the time he called [EU negotiator] Michel Barnier by mistake thinking he was talking to a far-right friend.”

Chapman added that Davis and Prime Minister Theresa May “don’t have the first idea about what they are doing,” and that his ex-boss was lying when he claimed the UK will “probably” not have to pay to access the EU customs union in any interim trade deal.

Davis responded by saying: “James was a ‘Remainer’ from the beginning, but he was a very good Chief of Staff. I am not going to criticize or argue with him [on air].”

Chapman served as Davis’s chief of staff until around a month ago. He is the Daily Mail’s former political editor and was a senior adviser to former Chancellor George Osborne before becoming Davis’s chief of staff.

He quit the government before June’s general election and now works in public relations.
