ARK Survival Evolved is getting a major update today that includes changes to the structures available in-game and how the kibble system works.

Studio Wildcard has confirmed that this new patch is launching today on PS4, Xbox One and PC and should already be available for some.

The big changes being made today have been listed by the development team in new patch notes, which confirm the scope of what fans will be able to do now.

While Studio Wildcard has moved on from releasing mega patches including new dinosaurs and biomes, they are now focused on fine-tuning the game’s most important elements.

Today’s ARK Survival update is called the Homestead expansion and includes elements from the popular Structure Plus (S+) mod, and the long-awaited kibble rework.

For those that don’t know, Structures Plus (S+) is a player-created Sponsored Mod by Orionsun and is available for the first time on PS4 and Xbox One today.

With these new elements now implemented into the game on all platforms, here’s the complete list of structures you can find in-game:

  • Dedicated bulk storage
  • Triangle foundations, ceilings and roof pieces
  • Four high walls
  • Fence supports for level walls
  • Flexible pipes and electrical cables
  • Double doors
  • Swappable variants for ramps/stairs
  • New visual variants for existing structures

Away from the exciting structure improvements comes the long-promised kibble rework.

Here’s the full rundown from Studio Wildcard on what has changed, writing: “Previously the Kibble system worked like a tree, the egg of one creature being used in a kibble to tame the next creature in line.

“Often these kibbles didn’t make sense in terms of game progression and became more redundant with each new creature that was added to the game.

“Each creature now falls into one of six categories, and that creature’s egg can be used to tame any creature within that specific category. Instead of having 50+ different kibbles all requiring a different specific egg, it is drastically reduced to: Basic, Simple, Regular, Superior, Exceptional, and Extraordinary kibbles!”

The Federal Communications Commission should let phone companies get more aggressive in blocking robocalls, 35 state attorneys general told the commission yesterday.

The FCC last year authorized voice service providers to block more types of calls in which the Caller ID has been spoofed or in which the number on the Caller ID is invalid. But the FCC did not go far enough, and robocallers have “evolved” to evade the new rules, the 35 attorneys general wrote in an FCC filing:

One specific method which has evolved recently is a form of illegal spoofing called “neighbor spoofing.” A neighbor-spoofed call will commonly appear on a consumer’s caller ID with the same area code and local exchange as the consumer to increase the likelihood he/she will answer the call. In addition, consumers have recently reported receiving calls where their own phone numbers appeared on their caller ID. A consumer who answered one such call reported the caller attempted to trick her by saying he was with the phone company and required personal information to verify the account, claiming it had been hacked.

The attorneys general said they “encourage the FCC to adopt rules authorizing providers to block these and other kinds of illegally spoofed calls.”

Having teased its release earlier this year, War Drum Studios’ handheld port is now available to download.

There are no restrictions between iOS and Android, although there are some issues stopping people playing.

ARK Survival Evolved Mobile on Android has a list of issues that have stopped many from accessing the full experience today.

While everyone should be able to find it on the Play Store and download it, problems can arise very quickly.

Black screens and crashes directly to the homescreen have been spotted by War Drum, who say they are working on these issues.

These are the current ARK Survival Android problems confirmed by the development team:

  • Compatible devices
  • Black screen
  • Touch control issues
  • Purchase errors

The good news is that the studio is hoping to push out a new update by tomorrow to address some of these problems.

While the base game is pretty much a replica of the versions currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, there are some differences.

Controls are currently touchscreen, with voice chat another difference fans will notice.

There’s also the question of microtransactions, which are only available in the mobile version of the game.

ARK Survival is free-to-play and is supported by in App-purchases and ads, which means spending real money.

The good news is that you can obtain every purchasable structure, item and buff in the game without spending any money. Ancient Amber is a rare resource that can also be purchased (making it an in-game currency) and is tied to your account on an individual server or in single player. It can be obtained without purchasing it directly in a variety of ways:

  • Harvested from large predators
  • Found in Amber deposits scattered around The Island
  • Random chance to obtain from Free Gifts
  • From watching Ads
  • Random chance to obtain from stones picked up off the ground

Here’s what Ancient Amber can be spent on:

  • Structures – Primarily, paid structures include crafting stations that can be used to instantly craft items for yourself or your tribe, includig other structures, ammunition, kibble, and paint dyes. These structures become available for purchase as you level up. For example the Lumber Mill, which is used to build wooden structures, becomes available for purchase at Level 15.
  • Buffs – Timed buffs are available to help you get through tough situations. Available buffs include increased weight capacity, resistance o weather elements, and reduced hunger.
  • Items – Single-use consumable items such as the Soothing Balm, which increases your taming effectiveness when fed to a wild creature.

There is also an ARK primal pass that comes with its own benefits, here’s more from the studio team, who confirm: “We also offer a subscription service that applies across all servers and in Single Player with Primal Pass.

“Primal Pass is available on a subscription basis for $ 3.99 a month, or you can purchase the annual pass for $ 34.99.

“With Primal Pass you get a permanent double XP buff, the removal of all ads (including those on the aforementioned Free Gifts), reserved slots on all servers, early access to news & upcoming special events, and access to our Primal Pass-exclusive servers.

“The Primal Pass-exclusive servers are our solution for those who desire a premium experience with less potential paid imbalance.

“On these servers, all paid structures are disabled and only buffs and items may be purchased. Thus there is no direct way to purchase harvestable resources or structures that could give an advantage to a paying player.

“We believe these will be a popular choice for seasoned ARK players looking for the most familiar experience.”

The development team have just deployed a new PS4 patch, which aims to take care of a few issues.

It’s not the big ARK Survival Evolved update being planned for release in mid-April, which will include a long list of changes.

However, it appears that while this new patch is only looking to solve a few bugs, some players are reporting a big download.

ARK players on Reddit have confirmed receiving downloads weighing in at 27GB, something that doesn’t appear part of the plan.

Community manager have confirmed that while the patch does look bigger than it should, the update is correct.

This new ARK Survival Evolved update aims to solve a few issues connected with building structures in the game.

“The PS4 patch that just went out is to resolve the problem with structures not placing properly, and the advanced workbench structure,” Studio Wildcard confirms.

These are the only changes listed by the Studio Wildcard team, who are preparing for the launch of the new TLC 2 patch later this month.

Fans may have also noticed that a new Egg-themed event is currently live in ARK Survival Evolved.

Running until April 10th, survivors will be able to experience the “Eggcellent Adventure” Event on all platforms.

During the event, survivors will be able to collect special “Bunny Eggs” across the ARK from wild Bunny Dodo’s and Bunny Oviraptor’s.

These Bunny Eggs can paint or be used in special Cooking Pot recipes to craft holiday-themed items such as Bunny Ears, a Bunny Costume for the Procoptodon, are two brand new cosmetics: the Knitted Chick Hat and Egg Shell Hat for both survivor and dino.

The TLC 2 patch will look to revamp a list of dinos, as well as provide some new changes to the Ragnarok mod.

Here’s a list of other changes fans may want to know about the new event:

  • Wild creatures roaming the ARKs will also find themselves feeling eggcellent, sporting bright colours of Green, Magenta, Yellow, and Blue.
  • Wild Dodos are replaced by Bunny Dodos – with ears, taming disabled, and drop 50% consumable dodo eggs and 50% Bunny eggs
  • Wild Oviraptors are replaced by Bunny Oviraptors – with ears, taming disabled, and drop 50% consumable Oviraptor eggs and 50% Bunny Eggs
  • Bunny Eggs can be placed on the ground and painted
  • Bunny Eggs will expire after approximately two weeks from inventories, and placed eggs will immediately decay once the event is turned off.
  • Run your private server with ‘-ActiveEvent=Easter’ to turn on the event
  • Running the same server without -ActiveEvent=Easter will delete all placed egg structures
  • PC players can use Steam > ARK > Properties > General > Set Launch Options and paste in -ActiveEvent=Easter to experience the event in single player/non-dedicated/player dedicated worlds. You must enable the event yourself in these modes.
  • Event is not available in Primitive Plus, or single player console worlds, non-dedicated console servers, or player dedicated console servers. Console can however spawn and use the new cosmetics with the command below.

While 2017 saw the popular PC, Xbox One and PS4 game leave early access, parent company Wildcard Properties have announced new ambitious projects.

ARK Survival Evolved Mobile is coming to iOS and Android this year via Wardrum Studios, while fans can also expect the popular survival title to arrive on Nintendo Switch too.

With the recent releases of both Fortnite and PUBG on phones, it’s certainly an interesting time for gamers.

Each title has varying support when it comes to bluetooth controllers, crossplay and microtransactions.

So it’s probably a good time to find out what’s coming to ARK Survival Evolved on Mobile too.

Going by the footage recently released by Wildcard for the mobile version, it certainly looks like an ambitious project.

And speaking to the Express Online, we now know exactly what kind of limitations and new gameplay mechanics are coming to ARK Mobile.

Below you can find a new FAQ, providing answers on upcoming microtransactions, controller support and the lack of crossplay with PS4 and Xbox One.

CONTROLLER SUPPORT IS COMING TO ARK MOBILE

Controller support is forthcoming, but it hasn’t been a huge priority since we’ve been very focused on the challenge of making this game feel great with touch controls. We’ve got a lot of experience with this and have millions of happy players with our previous adaptations. We’re going touch only on the beta though, as we need as much useful feedback as possible.

IN-GAME CHAT WILL USE SPEECH RECOGNITION FOR TEXT SUPPORT

We actually have an interesting solution for in-game chat. It’s too resource intensive to support voice chat with so many simultaneous players, so we came up with a neat way to tap into Siri and Google’s Cloud Speech API. You tap a button, and the speech recognition systems convert what you say to text, which is broadcast to your desired chat channel. We also tied in some basic game commands such as the whistles and emotes into this system, though it’s purely optional.

NO CROSSPLAY FOR ARK MOBILE AND PS4, XBOX ONE AND PC

Since gathering rates, gameplay mechanics, and new game functionality differ enough, it would be difficult to include cross platform support. We also had to do a full engine overhaul in order to make the game fit on mobile devices.

BUT THERE WILL CROSSPLAY SUPPORT BETWEEN MOBILE PLATFORMS

We do support full cross platform usage between iOS and Android, including a token entry system that lets you pair an Android device and an iOS device with the same account on a server. That way if a player has an Android phone and iOS tablet, they can play with the same character on both.

MICROTRANSACTIONS WILL BE INCLUDED IN ARK MOBILE

We have staunchly opposed pay-to-win mechanics and gambling mechanics throughout development. In order to support the game development and servers, we are asking the players to contribute in a variety of other ways.

The main system we are going to push will be the purchase of a Primal Pass, a month long pass that gives you access to reserved server spots, zero ads, permanent double XP, and other incentives. It’ll probably be in the $ 3-$ 5 range.

In terms of purchasable items, we’ve consistently aimed for a “pay-to-be-convenienced” approach for players who want to do less grinding or go through the fun of gathering and crafting on their own. So players can buy a premium structure called a Lumber Mill, for example, and it can make a number of wood structures instantly. But it’s a trade off, because they didn’t earn any XP in doing so.

In addition there are purchasable temporary buffs. These buffs do what many ARK players have wanted in the PC version. For instance, the “Leg Day” buff gives you 10x weight capacity, and is perfect for players who need to haul a bunch of gear in a single trip.

Of course, we’ll be working with the community from the very start of the closed beta to work out the kinks and establish balance with transactions. We want to make sure purchases are fun and convenient, but don’t screw up the fun for players who want nothing but the core ARK experience.

Studio Wildcard have confirmed that a new patch is being deployed today on PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro.

This new ARK Survival Evolved update should be available to download now, and looks to do one very specific thing.

HDR Mode for ARK should now be fully enabled for those who have the compatible hardware.

ARK servers have not be restarted, although if you have enabled auto-update, you may be booted to download the patch.

Wildcard have also announced what will be included in the game’s next big update, which will be arriving on PS4 and Xbox One in mid April.

The development team are now focusing on upgrading certain gameplay features and dinosaurs, with the next patch focusing on six creatures.

The Argentavis, Parasaur, Raptor, Sarcosuchus, Spinosaur, and Triceratops will be receiving varied gameplay and visual upgrades, according to the patch notes.

It will also provide upgrades for the ARK Ragnarok mod, as well as opening up transfers for the non-aberrant version of creatures to be transferred onto Aberration.

The Ragnarok team have also warned that the new update will make it impossible to build in the game’s puzzle cave, meaning players will have to move base.

“The puzzle cave was revised so that it would no longer allow survivors to build within it. Due to this change, player structures found in this location were removed and some dinos became stuck.

“We will not be rolling back our servers at this time. We would like to keep rollbacks limited to major service-wide disruptions going forward due to complications caused by CrossARK and Tribes (part of being a multi-server persistent open-world survival game).

“Console players, please use this time to move out any creatures or structures you have in this cave because once the update hits, you’ll no longer be able to do so!”

ARK players may start to see more updates arriving more regularly in the future, as the development team turns their attentions to upgrading the overall gameplay and fell of the game.

“We will be turning our focus more directly on to bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements for the core game in the weeks ahead,” a message from Studio Wildcard explains.

“Going forward, we’ll be consolidating the patching process on PC. We will be leaning heavily on regular Tuesday (or Wednesday if needed) deployments unless critical fixes require patches outside of that regular patch day.

“These will become collective weekly bug and quality-of-life patching updates.”

It was recently announced that ARK Survival Evolved is being developed for both Mobiles and the Nintendo Switch, both of which look set to be released this year.

Focus Features’ upcoming thriller Thoroughbreds may seem like it’s being helmed by a long-time filmmaker with plenty of features under his belt, but it’s actually the debut movie for writer/director Cory Finley. We’re debuting a brand new Thoroughbreds featurette in which Finley explains how the story morphed from its original form – a stage play – into a wholly cinematic experience.

The movie tells the story of two childhood friends, played by Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch, Morgan), who team up with a local hustler (Anton Yelchin, in one of his final roles) and plot to kill Lily’s stepdad. House of Cards alum Paul Sparks plays the stepdad, and as anyone who has seen HBO’s The Night Of will tell you, Sparks excels at playing creepy relatives.

The film debuted at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and earned solid reviews on the festival circuit. Collider had nice things to say about the movie in their review:

On all levels, Thoroughbreds is a technical wonder. Finley penned a script driven by snappy dialogue, and it’s no surprise to learn that he originally intended the film as a stage play, but he also directs the shit out of this movie, sculpting a world of immaculate, marble-pillared extravagance and high society propriety. Finley builds remarkable tension with little affect, letting the strength of pace, editing and performance do the heavy lifting.

Childhood friends Lily and Amanda reconnect in suburban Connecticut after years of growing apart. Lily has turned into a polished, upper-class teenager, with a fancy boarding school on her transcript and a coveted internship on her resume; Amanda has developed a sharp wit and her own particular attitude, but all in the process of becoming a social outcast. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily’s contempt for her oppressive stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, they begin to bring out one another’s most destructive tendencies. Their ambitions lead them to hire a local hustler, Tim, and take matters into their own hands to set their lives straight.

Indiewire also had high praise for it, describing the film as “like American Psycho meets Heathers as directed by Park Chan-wook”:

“Thoroughbred” is a dark and pointed piece of work that depends on the delicacy with which someone can thread the needle between Hitchcockian suspense and capitalistic venom, and Finley — adapting his own play to the screen — demonstrates a cinematic authority that eludes many filmmakers who have worked in the medium for decades. The vast majority of Finley’s debut may be confined to Lily’s house, but if his snappy and contained script betrays the project’s theatrical origins, his direction doesn’t.

Thoroughbreds arrives in theaters on March 9, 2018.

Fans have been waiting a while but the latest ARK Survival Evolved update has finally reached Xbox One.

And weighing in at over 24GB, it’s fair to say it’s a big one.

This new ARK Survival patch is already available on PS4 and PC, a long list of tweaks.

One of the big changes is to the game’s Turret system, which will now include a limit on the amount that can be built in a certain area.

“As of v771 turrets will be hard-number limited to 100. This means that you will not be able to build over 100 turrets within a 10k unit radius,” a message from Studio Wild reads.

“However existing set-ups with over 100 turrets will still function as normal until the a future date yet to be announced when we will enable the hard limit, which will retroactively disable (randomly selected) turrets that are over the 100 limit from functioning.”

Away from the usual bugfixes and gameplay rebalancing, Studio Wildcard have also changed the look of some dinos.

All the big ARK Survival Evolved updates can be found below in the official patch notes:

Dino TLC – The Procoptodon

  • Receives a model update, animation update, sound pass, and some new abilities:
  • Will take reduced fall damage
  • Carry weight will be noticeably increased
  • Can carry small creatures and baby dinos in its pouch
  • A knockback kick which can affect significantly larger dinos
  • Added an aimed jump which can be used by holding down the Jump key
  • Carried characters in a pouch have reduced food consumption rate when carried by Mate-Boosted Female Procoptodons.
  • Babies imprinted while in a carried Procoptodon pouch receive more affinity

Dino TLC – The Gigantopithecus A.K.A Bigfoot

  • Receives a model update, animation update, new fur, sound pass and some new abilities:
  • The Bigfoot will receive an armour-degrading attack; this means when it fights, it’ll do more damage to your armour’s durability. It is important to note that the armour-degrading attack will not affect the Yeti creatures found in the game.
  • Added the capability to climb ziplines (but not jump between them)
  • Added a jump
  • It can now carry and throw small creatures
  • Throwing has been made more accurate, similarly to crabs with targetting cursor

Dino TLC – The Direbear

  • Receives a model update, animation update, new fur and some new abilities:
  • When riding a Direbear, players will be immune to bees. They won’t be able to knock you off your bear, and they will target focus the bear instead of the player.
  • The Direbear will also be able to harvest honey from wild beehives without attracting bees or hurting the hive using it’s alternative attack. Plus the amount of honey it receives will be 3x the standard amount.
  • Increased swim speed

Dino TLC – The Direwolf

  • Receives a model update, animation update, new fur and some new abilities:
  • Howl now activates a pack buff for 90 seconds (with a 1.5 minute cooldown). When the Alpha howls, the pack also howls. The pack buff strengthens the Alpha, as well as its pack (reduced amount vs Alpha)
  • Hunter’s Instinct passive buff which will allow it to sniff out people/creatures with less than 50% health
  • Sniff tertiary ability to indicate nearby explorer notes, or to detect buried/stealth creatures

Dino TLC – The Rex

  • Receives a model update, animation update, and some new abilities:
  • Its roar should receive a CD and make non-allies (under a certain dragweight) poop to act as a small stun/interrupt. There will be a cooldown on victims so that they cannot be pooplocked continuously.
  • The roar will not be able to scare anything above its level
  • Roar will cause players to poop but not stun them
  • Rex’s ability to climb over small rocks and steeper slopes have been improved.

Creature Specific Bug Fixes & Balance Balance

  • – Dragon’s Fire Breath direct impact damage reduced by 50%
  • – Fixed a bug which caused Rock Drake and Wyvern eggs to sink below their nests over time.
  • – Added Rock Golem Saddles to Scorched Earth Loot Table
  • – Added Basilisk and Krakinos Saddles to Aberration Loot Table
  • – Uploaded Creature stats now display Movement Speed and Melee Damage
  • – Fixed a case where certain creatures would get stuck under the map/inside the map when colliding with larger creatures (most noticeably seen the Rock Drake and Basilisk)
  • – Fixed an issue which was causing a desync with the Reaper’s collision
  • – No longer need pheromone to claim Reaper Kings
  • – Moschops will no longer flee when told to harvest dino corpses
  • – Fixed a bug where some creatures would not be able to attack at low server FPS
  • – Bronto’s and Paracer’s breeding time have increased by 50% (equivalent to Quetz)
  • – Reduced Bronto HP gain per level by 33%
  • – Reduced Bronto base HP by 10%
  • – Reduced Paracaratherium base HP by 10%
  • – Reduced Paracer HP gain per level by 25%
  • – Reduced Tuso Base HP by 20%
