Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno has terminated the credentials of his UK ambassador, who has been at the center of negotiating the fate of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange, as concerns mount over the whistleblower’s safety. The decree, with which Moreno effectively sacked Ecuador’s London ambassador Abbad Ortiz, was published by WikiLeaks on Wednesday. The document does not offer any explanation as to why Ortiz, who had been his country’s ambassador to the UK since 2015, is now being permanently recalled. Nor does it name a successor for the outgoing diplomat. The decree is effective immediately. WikiLeaks tweeted that Abbad, appointed to the office under President Raffael Correa, was the last diplomat the long-term self-exiled editor knew in the embassy. “All diplomats known to Assange have now been transferred away from the embassy,” the whistleblowing site claimed. This new and sudden twist in the Assange saga has been met with concern by his supporters, with some suggesting that Moreno is doing Washington’s bidding by removing people who might have stood by Assange and opposed his potential handover to the British police – which is expected to bring about a swift extradition to the US. The dismissal has been called “a silent pro-US coup.” Meanwhile in #Ecuador@Lenin Moreno has replaced judges and election officials. Anyone still loyal to former President @MashiRafael Correa must be purged. This is a silent pro-US coup. — J. (@jaraparilla) November 22, 2018 One user argued that sending off diplomats Assange might have bonded with and surrounding him with complete strangers is a form of “psychological torture.” This is psychological torture!!! — Free Press! Free Julian Assange 🔊 (@FreeWikiPress) November 22, 2018 Carlos Abad and others replaced with puppets who will "follow orders" from the puppet regime of Lenin Moreno (receiving instructions from Uncle Sam) — Dr. Roy Schestowitz (罗伊) (@schestowitz) November 22, 2018 Assange’s prolonged stay in Ecuador’s London embassy, where he has enjoyed protection from possible arrest and persecution in the US since 2012, has been hanging in the balance since the election of Moreno in 2017. Moreno, a former ally of Correa, has distanced himself from the anti-American policy of his populist predecessor and sought to reboot relations with the US. Ecuador is looking for US support in getting $ 3.9bn in international loans, and there have been reports that Washington’s assistance would be conditional to Ecuador’s handling of the Assange case. Lenin was bought like Judas with 1.3 billion loan — Raking Citizen Halo 🇫🇮🐦⏳ (@haloefekti) November 22, 2018 There have also been reports of intense negotiations between senior UK and Ecuadorian officials over the prospects of Assange’s eviction. The Times reported in summer that the talks were held at Foreign Office level. While Moreno has described Assange as “more than a nuisance” and “an inherited problem,” he repeatedly stated that Ecuador would not withdraw its protection unless the whistleblower breaches a set of stringent rules, which restrict his freedom of expression and visitation rights. The rules, which Assange described as violating his fundamental rights and freedoms, were laid out in August, demanding he stays away from discussing politics and pays for his own medical and other expenses. Late October, an Ecuadorian court rejected Assange’s appeal to revise the “protocol” Think your friends would be interested? Share this story!

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising?
This week we catch up with Doug Liman’s latest project, watch a documentary about people who keep your smut off social media, watch some people take a stand against the man, go on Spring Break and quickly figure out why some people are sexually broken, slow it down to watch a mother and son grind out a very lonely existence, and catch up with 90’s pop rock sensation, Belly.
How long does it take to tell a great story? Director Laura O’Grady is banking on the idea that all she needs is 22 minutes of your time to tell the story of some people in trailer park who have to vacate, but aren’t, and that it will make for something compelling. I genuinely appreciate not only the way this trailer is designed which is to say that it is very clean, very well paced, and well executed, but how well we understand just what is at stake for those involved without hysteria or being heavy handed about it. Just believing in the story she wants to tell and presenting it as it is makes for a fantastic trailer that moves you and speaks to something universal.
Growing up, I knew that going to Fort Lauderdale was the mecca every young boy wanted to someday visit in their youth. Countless movies used it as a backdrop for zany comedies, and networks like MTV capitalized, literally, on its hypnotic charm like the Comic-Con for hedonists that it was. The closest I came to visiting Florida in any capacity to indulge in the kind of debauchery was watching Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise. Alas, it was not ever meant to be for me, and director Benjamin Nolot is on to something with this documentary. If you want to talk about toxic masculinity, if you want to talk about the things that young people subject themselves to, which inevitably end up unfavorably for everyone involved, spring break and these kinds of soirees are a great jumping off point about where we are as a culture. The trailer fantastically weaves the more salacious in with the more serious and there is a legit balance here of dissecting the why and what of this raunchy culture.
Slowly, inevitably, every social network sooner or later becomes a pariah for one reason or another. Whether it’s simply function or changing styles or something else entirely, no one rules the roost forever. And, as it pertains to those who have to moderate the inordinate amount of content flowing onto these social networks, it’s unimaginable about what this is doing to those who have to police the rest of us. The writer Adrian Chen did a fantastic job writing about this subject in Wired years ago. Now hopefully this documentary shines a light on the nastier side of humanity in order to illuminate some part of us that needs to be exposed. The content we upload, and the people who have to witness it all, literally firsthand, is something akin to a sociological representation of who we are.
If you’re going to come out of the gate with something strong then first time writer/director Kathleen Hepburn is bringing the heat. The actress we see most in this trailer, Shirley Henderson, has received raves for her performance here and it’s easy to see why that’s the case. She comes off as genuine, she’s not exaggerating her lot in life for dramatic effect, and, it feels like she downplays her role to the point that it feels real. The moments that we get in this are heavy and the subject matter does not provide for any kind of relief. However, with the acclaim and notice this movie has received, that’s a very good thing. The trailer is far and away one of the more compelling ones I’ve seen in weeks.
Between this and Cobra Kai I’m beginning to see a pattern with YouTube Red Originals.
Doug Liman’s name is all over the press release for this and you can understand why. You have a middling to average looking series bowing on a service that I’m guessing isn’t bringing in the kind of clientele that Netflix is, so you craft something for the teens that has a little cache. Hence, you have Doug Liman’s name liberally used but obviously absent in the actual product. The trailer itself feels wafer thin with a little visual pizzazz to add some flavor. Unfortunately, it tastes like cardboard.
This is my mini-Water Cooler entry for the week.
For those of you who are just beginning on your musical journey of trying to discover what musician or band you’re going to grasp with your ears and never let go, I say choose wisely.
Many decades ago, I bought a Cassingle (Jeez, Chris, how old are you?) for “Feed the Tree” by Rhode Island’s finest, Belly, and it changed the course of my musical life. In the 90’s when the word “alternative” meant so many different things, depending on who you were talking to, there was Belly, cutting their own path by being genuine, creative, catchy, and, as I could attest to later when I met them, wildly affable. In the span of 2+ years their star burned bright, and, as many of these kinds of stories go, simply faded like a shooting star entering the atmosphere. These kids never left my creative sandbox and were a part of my first book that I wrote almost a decade after they broke up.
But a decade after that, there was a sign of life. In a matter of months they were back on the road in 2016 playing shows, and words fail me when I describe what it was like to see these four people together again not as some nostalgia act but as four musicians who felt that things aligned perfectly once more to see how it would go. Not going to lie, these shows were nothing short of electric. I was 20 again, reveling in the old and the new and experiencing something akin to a reunion but there was something different. They weren’t done. You could just sense there was the hope of new art. At first it was a couple of new songs played during the show, and then there was going to be an EP. Fast forward to 2018, and they’re coming out with album number three on May 4th with a blisteringly catchy song that is best listened all the way turnt up called “Shiny One.” Following that, they’re back on the road this year to play some shows and bring some joy to those of us who never counted them out.
These four (Tanya Donelly, Thomas Gorman, Chris Gorman, and Gail Greenwood) have proven that you really can go home again because this is a house filled with hope, love, positivity, and a fan base that won’t relent. If any of you are even close to remembering this band, I implore you to give this a spin if only to see that even after two decades removed from making music, you still can have something to prove. Even though I’m old AF, and I’m slowly slipping into stages of being wildly despondent about life now that I have my own daily lot to deal with, this new music has been a revelation. It made me appreciate this chance to experience something that rarely happens when a creative group of people go their separate ways.
Knowing how giddy all of this activity is making me feel on the inside has made me want this kind of feeling for anyone who has ever been a passionate fan of something only to see it fade to a cool ember. As the years pass you keep it warm in your heart, but like what happened here, something occurs and those emotions and synaptic connections rage back into the inferno you once knew, and the next thing you know, you’re booking plane flights all over the country because you can’t be content with just seeing one show. Oh no, you need at least 3 or 5 to make this a worthy run because you just don’t want this feeling to stop. It’s madness in the service of something wonderful.
In addition, and this is probably a result of getting closer to my own demise, I’ve stopped thinking about this reunion as something that is bringing me joy, that this is something for me. True, it is going to do that, but when you understand that this has brought them affirmation, brought them a sense of artistic excitement and achievement, you get it. You become a part of something symbiotic. And I completely understand that on a global scale this is but a fraction of a fraction of something to be so elated about. But for me, when you’re a fan of something that means so much to you, there’s nothing like getting a second chance to revive a part of yourself that you felt was buried in a version of yourself you hardly recognize anymore, to enjoy life through that devil-may-care prism that all of us used to have if only for a moment, it is a rarity, and I’m not taking this year for granted. See you all on the rail…

With Ross Mathews and Brandi Glanville sitting pretty on the chopping block, Monday’s Celebrity Big Brother found Omarosa proceeding to the second phase of her plan to DE-STROY ALL HU-MANS.
Fans of the show were “gutted” to see Ginuwine become the fifth housemate to be evicted from the Big Brother house.
The American singer, Wayne Sleep, Anne Widdecombe, Daniel O’Reilly and Jonny Mitchell were all put up for the public vote on Monday night by their fellow housemates in the first Diary Room nomination of the series.
When it came to revealing the star that would need to leave the house during the live show, Celebrity Big Brother host Emma Willis announced the contestant who received the fewest public votes was Ginuwine.
After exiting the house, Ginuwine, 47, was greeted with loud cheers from the crowd before he sat down to discuss his time on the show with Emma.
He said: “I had a wonderful time. It was something. I never expected to even get this far. Thank you, guys. I really had a great time.”
Asked about his rumoured romance with Ashley James, he replied: “She’s a beautiful young lady. We really clicked. I think it was what it was on the show and I’m wanting to see what it will be after.
“It was definitely a genuine connection. No pun intended. I’m definitely going to talk to her after she gets out.”
The Celebrity Big Brother housemates seemed surprised when Ginuwine was named as the fifth star to be eliminated.
Anne gasped loudly when the result was read out and uttered Ginuwine’s name in disbelief.
While his rumoured love interest Ashley looked worried by the news and later said in the Diary Room: “It was just quite nice to have that person that I cared for. Even though I was quite adamant I didn’t want a relationship somehow it happened but yeah I’m gonna miss him.”
Viewers at home were also left stunned by the shock elimination, with some taking to Twitter to air their frustration.
One wrote: “Gutted that you’re out Ginuwine! Best of luck for the future #CBB.”
“@bbuk @Ginuwine shouldn’t have gone yet. There’s a few that needed to be gone before him,” added another.
A third moaned: “@Ginuwine didn’t want you to leave #CBBUK,” while a fourth posted: “@Ginuwine shouldn’t have been evicted tonight smh #CBB.”(sic)
Five celebrities were nominated for the public vote, with three stars still waiting to find out whether they are safe or not.
On Monday, football legend John Barnes was sent packing by the female contestants after they were forced to choose between him and Daniel O’Reilly.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
Ginuwine bashed housemates Andrew Brady and Shane Jenek after it was revealed he had been put up for the public vote.
The R&B singer didn’t mince his words when he explained why he thought he had been nominated.
In the Diary Room, the 47-year-old hit maker said: “I know me, I don’t dislike anyone, but it’s a game.
“For the people that know the show and know what it can do for them – it’s probably very tactical.
“Me, I’m just over here having fun and wanting to see where I measure up with the public so let the chips fall where they may, I’m looking forward to the night whenever it is to get chosen or not chosen.”
The Pony crooner then went on to suggest that Andrew and Shane (Courtney Act) could be playing a game.
He said: “Me and Andrew talk and all that, but him and Courtney talk a lot, alone with each other. I know people come out with them and all that kind of stuff but there alone a lot and they’re probably scheming a little bit.
“It’s a game, it’s fun, do you know what I mean? So I’m pretty sure they have some type of tactic and they should.”
On last nights episode of Celebrity Big Brother, each housemate voted in the Diary Room for the first time this series.
A total of five celebrities were nominated to face the public vote but the full line-up will be revealed during tomorrow night’s live special.
However, Ginuwine was revealed as one of the stars facing the chop on Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit On The Side.
While the revelation shocked the studio audience, evicted housemate Rachel Johnson didn’t seem surprised.
Asked by host Rylan Clark-Neal if she agreed with the nomination, Rachel replied: “What I think it is, is the house have realised that Ginuwine and Ashley are providing cover for each other during the evictions.”
Evictee Maggie Oliver then added: “I really like Ginuwine, but I’ve always felt like him and Ashley are playing a game and I think they’ve got a bit of competition now in Andrew and Courtney.
“I love Ashley to pieces, but she’s very smart, really switched on and I think she’ll see the Celebrity BB crown slipping away a little bit.”
Tonight, football legend John Barnes will be interviewed live on the show after being booted out of the house in a backdoor elimination by his female housemates last night.
When John learned that his time in the house was up he seemed particularly cheerful, telling Big Brother at the time: “I’m surprisingly okay because it happened so suddenly.”
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
She explained: “I wasn’t surprised that Ann nominated me because I said if there’s one person who would make a vindictive nomination, it would be her.
“I have been very outspoken, I’m only on there because I spoke up about what was going on in Rochdale. And I spoke out about that because I felt that generations of girls were subjected to a lot more pain than that over a period of years.
“For me, Ann was in a position of influence in the Houses of Parliament when Ann Cryer was banging on the door and trying to get MPs to deal with that abuse.
“So for Ann to make that nomination, based on the fact that she said I couldn’t watch pain, is completely hypocritical, it upset me.”
Emma was keen to explain that Ann was not in a position to give her side of the story to which Maggie accepted and concluded the chat about the former politician.
“I knew that Ann had a problem with me,” she explained. “I wouldn’t be very surprised if Ann and I spend any time with each other outside this arena.”
Maggie spoke out about the child sex abuse investigations which took place in Rochdale.
She took leave following a family bereavement and when she returned to work she found that the inquiry had been abandoned.
She resigned from Greater Manchester Police after claiming that hundreds of cases of alleged abuse were mishandled.
The Rochdale child abuse scandal reportedly took place after 2008.
Ann Widdecombe held a position in office as Shadow Home Secretary between 1999-2001 and was the Maidstone and The Weald MP between 1987 and 1997.
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative of Ann Widdecombe for comment.
Maggie followed Rachel Johnson in this evening’s shock double eviction, who took the opportunity to blast Shane Janek over the controversial shopping list.
Celebrity Big Brother airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9pm.
The transgender newsreader failed to impress viewers when she caused drama in the first week in the house, which saw her come to blows with Amanda Barrie when they clashed over gender.
And it seems her recent attempts to win over fans of the show fell flat as viewers chose to save Love Island star Jonny Mitchell.
Following host Emma Willis’ announcement that India had been evicted, Twitter was sent into meltdown, with viewers expressing their delight that she’d been booted out.
“Ooh India’s out, no surprise there. #CBB,” one viewer shared while another added: “YESSSSSS GOODBYE INDIA #CBB.”
A third continued: “Yeesssssss #cbb Right decision,” as someone else wrote: “YESSS BYE INDIA #CBB.”
In her exit interview, India admitted that she “c**ked it up” early on in the competition and “had so much more to offer”.
She went on to add that she was “expecting punch-ups” and was “psyched up to have confrontations and cause a little bit of trouble”.
India confessed that she wanted to “cause some mischief but it didn’t go down very well”.
She added that Shane J has been “terrific” and that they had a “lovely conversation” about gender before noting that she hopes they stay friends.
Tonight’s eviction came after a drama-filled episode, which saw Wayne Sleep flash his penis to Amanda Barrie and Maggie Oliver.
The 69-year-old was in the bathroom with the ladies when he dropped his towel and showcased his private parts.
While fans of the Channel 5 reality series had been warned that their would be full-frontal nudity, many viewers were still shocked.
“Omg seeing Wayne Sleep’s flacid penis on my TV screen was not something I was mentally prepared for #CBB,” one fan tweeted.
As another added: “The last thing I need to see on a Friday night is wayne sleep’s penis #CBB.”
Celebrity Big Brother continues tomorrow on Channel 5 at 9pm.
The presenters branded Jamie Vardy’s wife “miserable” while discussing the day’s events on spin-off show Extra Camp last night.
The contestant did not hold back with her complaints after being sent to Snake Rock, where the group were forced to live on rations and sleep on the floor.
Speaking to Scarlett Moffatt, Joel Dommett and Joe Swash, Declan Donnelly referenced Rebekah being “annoyed” with newcomer Iain Lee, who will face the latest Bushtucker Trial tonight.
“Becky’s annoyed?” Ant McPartlin replied sarcastically, much to the amusement of his ITV2 companions.
“I think that Becky might be happier now that’s she got her luxury item though?” Scarlett, 27, suggested.
However, Dec, 42, stated: “Do you think? She didn’t even look that pleased with the pillow though, did she?”
The star was referencing the gift she was given by her family, thanks to Croc Creek’s success in the Trial.
“I think she’s just got resting b***h face, I think that’s all it is,” Scarlett again defended.
But, Ant, also 42, then blasted: “Do you think? She told the radio to f*** off. That’s not resting b***h face – that’s just miserable!”
It comes after Rebekah became the favourite to be eliminated first with odds of 2/1, according to Ladbrokes.
“Rebekah needs to change her surname to mardy because that’s all she’s being at the moment, which is now reflected in her elimination odds,” spokesperson Jessica Bridge commented.
I’m A Celebrity 2017… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9.10pm on ITV, while Extra Camp airs after the main show on ITV2.
The two housemates got the boot in a double eviction ahead of the live final this Friday.
Despite getting cheers from the crowds, they clearly didn’t get any votes from viewers to save them from the chop.
There were a total of six stars facing the boot from the Elstree compound and it was clear that the duo looked shocked to be leaving.
Speaking in her exit interview, the Absolutely Fabulous actress said: “My heart is racing, it’s not a normal situation. We’ve been captive with our collars with our microphones.”
She went on to say: “Everyone is mad. The children scream, Derek speaks, Sandi cooks all the time. I am trying to get through neutral and pleasant.”
Meanwhile, Sandi said that she was pleased that Sarah Harding and Chad Johnson actually cooked in the kitchen and that she didn’t mind them entering her domain.
It was revealed that Chad and Sarah had voted for them, which came as no surprise to them.
She checks who’s done that. You can’t get near the sink.
Sandi told Emma that she would not do things to get air time, saying: “I’m not stripping off. I won’t be bringing out a bikini.”
She sternly added: “A lot of other parts was shown on a regular basis. There were others showing bits and bobos. It’s reality, they known what will be shown.”
Both thought that Chad and Sarah were likely to win the series because they knew what they were doing.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tomorrow on Channel 5 at 9pm.
One celebrity is said to be getting kicked off by the backdoor on Wednesday night without the cheer crowds that come with the usual eviction.
Tomorrow evening will see two more famous names getting evicted out of the nine remaining housemates with the final set to be taking place on Friday.
But bosses of the Channel 5 reality show are apparently going to unceremoniously remove one person, leaving six people in the Elstree compound for the final few days, according to The Sun.
At present Sarah Harding, Chad Johnson, Gogglebox star Sandi Bogle, ex-EastEnders star Shaun Williamson, Jemma Lucy, Helen Lederer, Amelia Lily, Made In Chelsea’s Sam Thompson and psychic Derek Acorah are still in the house.
The latest series of Celebrity Big Brother has proved to be an explosive watch as Girls Aloud star Sarah, 35, and Chad, 30, ended up in an unexpected romance on the show.
However, their relationship has been an emotional rollercoaster for the couple with plenty of ups and downs.
This evening they got into a fiery spat after she scolded him for drinking too quickly.
She was heard telling the Bachelor star that she’d “been in the business 15 f***ing years”, and she wanted him to stop “taking the p*** and listen”.
But a confused Chad struggled to keep up with the band member’s “telling off”, as his answers were barely more than him telling her she sounded “so British” and being unable to understand her choice of vocabulary.
“You are getting f***ing defensive, and it’s out of order when all I’m trying to do is look out for you, so don’t turn around and shove it in my face like a pile of sh*t,” Sarah spat.
However, they quickly made up after the row and it was not long before they were caught in some nocturnal activity.
‘This is purely speculation, we have not confirmed anything,’ a Celebrity Big Brother spokesperson told Express.co.uk.
Celebrity Big Brother continues on Channel 5 tomorrow at 9pm.
